Using Servers and Servlets

Does anyone know how to make sure that when a servlet is run the class that is running the servlet (ie extends HttpServlet) is able to be accessed by another program, say Lisp, through the use of jlinker. If anyone knows, the problem is that I can not get Lisp to recognize the class in which the servlet is running. I had this problem with JDK1.3.1 until I ran the program and included in the class path where the .java and .class files were located. I am using Tomcat 3.2 as my server. Does anyone know how to set part of the class path in Tomcat to see a .class file/

I don't know if I got your question right....Do you want to know how to include a class in the classpath used by tomcat??? If so,
tomcat sets (overrides) the classpath in tomcat.bat in windows (or tomcat.sh for unix) file under bin directory. You need to include the package (or the directory containing the class file) with this classpath generated by tomcat.
Hope this is what you are asking.

    implementing or using jdbc with servlets and jsp.Well, which do you want to do? Implement JDBC with servlets and JSP - a tricky job, but there's no technical reason why you couldn't for instance write a class which both extends HttpServlet and implements java.sql.Driver. Wouldn't recommend it, though

  • Interesting single sigon application project using jsp and servlet....Help.

    A customer login's to my website using Enterprise login. I am supposed to have a link on my website to this other website(that also uses our Enterprise login details but hosted by other vendor/company on their server), and when I click this link the customes should automatically get logged in to this other website and get a welcome page(instead of login page).
    Below are the sequence of steps that the other website wants me to perform to get to his welcome page(i.e bypass his login page).
    FYI, I am planning to build a jsp page with a link to this other website. Can some body tell me how should I build the application(i.e) how jsp and servlets be build to interact to perform these operations. Any hep is greatly appreciated.
    1.When a user clicks on to other website link(available on my website), the browser generates an HTTP GET request to the Other website's session servlet. User's name is one of the parameters of this request.
    2.Other website receives the HTTP request and generates a unique session identifier for this user. An HTTP response to the end-user is then sent. The user's name and the session identifier are passed back as parameters in the redirect URL.
    3.The browser sends the HTTP request (GET) to the Verification Service that was specified in the redirect message. The parameters (user name and/or session id) will be passed as URL parameters.
    4.The Verification Service(of other website) authenticates the user. A redirect URL to it's sigon servlet(with parameter's User id and key) is then sent back to the user's browser.
    5.The end-user's browser will perform the redirect (performing an HTTP get operation to Other website's signon servlet with the username and the digest key).
    6.The other website will check if the parameter's passed is the same as the one passed earlier, if the user is who he says he is then he is redirected to the main page of the application.
    7.The browser will then redirect the user to Other website's main page (welcome.jsp).
    There seems's to be many calls to this other website that needs to be performed behind the scenes once a user clicks the link on my website.
    Please suggest and help me out.........

    Why are you trying to build a whole federated single sign on framework from scratch when you can just use/buy an existing and proven solution instead? There are a lot of security implication and trust issues involved for this so unless you already understand all of those I'd advise you not to re-invent the wheel. There are a lot of products available that do this. Try searching for '<vendor name> Access Manager' or OpenSSO.

  • Showing various images on browser using JSP and Servlet

    Hello Guys!
    I am starting to develop in Java and already I am facing a big problem.
    If somebody will have some tip or suggestion, will be very well comings!
    The application must present in browser images originnally of format TIF. As it is not a native format of the I.E. , I converted the image for JPG (without saving it on disk) and send it to the browser a encoded image (encode) using JAI library in one servlet had access by a JSP. Then, the structure of my application is thus:
    1) an archive JSP draws the initial screen in browser and presents one input text.
    2) later that the user places the parameter, I make an access to the database and read a quantity of images to be presented.
    3) From there in the proper JSP, I use de tag img src to send image to the browser in agreement archive the amount of images.
    It follows the code of the JSP:
    <%
                    int intI=0;
                    int intCont=0;
                    if(blnImagem == true){
                        out.println("<br>");
                        out.println("<table border=0 STYLE=border-collapse:collapse>");
                        out.println("<tr>");
                        for(intI=0;intI < Processo.intQtdImagens;intI++){
                           Imagem.strImgTif = Imagem.IndicarImagem(Processo.strNmPath,Processo.strSubPath,Processo.intNuImagem,intI);
                           out.println("<th>");
                           out.println("<table border=1 STYLE=border-collapse:collapse rules='cols'>");
                           out.println("<tr>");
                           out.println("<th>");
                           %>
                             <img src="ShowImg" WIDTH=100>
                           <%
                           out.println("</th>");
                           out.println("</tr>");
                           out.println("</table>");
    %>and code on the ShowImg servlet:
            response.setContentType("image/jpeg");
            ServletOutputStream sos = response.getOutputStream();
            RenderedOp src = JAI.create("fileload", Imagem.strImgTif);
            ImageEncoder encoder = ImageCodec.createImageEncoder("JPEG",sos,null);
            encoder.encode(src);
            sos.close();The problem is if I have 10 images to present, it WILL BE it is executed 10 times and it passes 10 names of different archives, but in the page only the last image is presented 10 times. It is as if it processed the TAG to the end of everything in way that the value of the static variable Imagem.strImgTif was chore only with the last value and the same loaded image 10 times. How I make to solve this? Somebody has some idea?
    THANK YOU !
    Emidio

    If I understand correctly what your problem is:
    Do this in the jsp:
    out.println("<img src=\"ShowImg?image=" + intI + "\" WIDTH=100>");
    In the image servlet, get the "image" parameter and parse it as an int. Move the Imagem.IndicarImagem() call to the image servlet.

    So,
    <%@ page session="false"%>
    That means the jsp never instantiates the build in session object.
    <%@ page session="true"%>
    means jsp will instantiates a session object if there are no existing ones
    how about I just delete the line,
    does that mean the jsp will find the existing session object for me?
    So I can do something like
    Our Session id is : <%= session.getId() %>
    <% session.removeAttribute("userid");
    session.invalidate();
    %>
    directly.

    From here, i would get the list of items which user has selected and add to the cartList, then i would direct the user to CartDetails.jsp which displayed the items user has selected.
    From there, user would be able to remove or to continue shopping by selecting other category.
    How i do store all the items user has selected ... everytime he would wan to view his cart ...
    As i would be calling from jsp to servlet .. or jsp to servlet ... and i do not know how i should go about in creating the shopping cart.

    Hi !
    Yon can use a data structure as vector and store the items selected by the user into the vector . Keep the vector in session using session object , so the user can access the entire shopping cart from anywhere in the application .
    Then , you can change the cart accordingly .
    Hope this works.
    Cheers ,

  • Deploying a WAR file containing .jsp and servlets (also uses JNI)

    Deploying a WAR file containing .jsp and servlets (also uses JNI) on Windows 2000
    We had problems making it initially work on Sun ONE Web Server 6.0 Service Pack 1 because of lack of good iPlanet Web
    Server documentation on deploying such files.
    This is how we went about it:
    1) Make one of the servlet and JSP (must call another Java Class) web application (.war) examples work with iPlanet Web
    Server.
    C:\iPlanet\Servers\plugins\servlets\examples\web-apps\HelloWorld\HelloWorld.war
    and
    C:\iPlanet\Servers\plugins\servlets\examples\web-apps\jakarta-examples\jarkarta-examples.war
    a) Go to your Web Server Administration to deploy the application using GUI Web Application Deploy.
    (We usually use command line, we experienced some issues with the GUI version, but maybe it is fixed in the new Web Server
    service packs)
    From browser, open http://yourserver:8888/
    Click on Select a Server:Manage
    Click on Virtual Server Class
    Click on https-yourserver
    Click on the Web Applications Tab
    Then, click on Deploy Web Application
    Enter the following -
    WAR File On: Local
    WAR File Path: C:\iPlanet\Servers\plugins\servlets\examples\web-apps\jakarta-examples\jarkarta-examples.war
    Application URI: /jakarta
    Installation Directory: c:\iPlanet\examples\jakarta-examples
    By clicking on OK it deployed the application.
    I can verify that it is deployed by selecting "Edit Web Applications" and I see the following entry:
    Edit     /jakarta     c:/iPlanet/examples/jakarta-examples
    Also, c:/iPlanet/examples/jakarta-examples should have the similar following directory structure ..
    - [images]
    - [jsp]
    - index.html
    - [servlets]
    - [META-INF]
    - [WEB-INF]
    - [classes]
    - [tlds]
    - web.xml
    - index.html
    I restarted the server and accessed it using the following URL from my IE browser:
    http://yourserver/jakarta/index.html
    Then I clicked on the JSP Examples and tried some JSP examples.
    b) Alternatively, you can also deploy the same example from the command-line.
    Make sure C:\iPlanet\Servers\bin\https\httpadmin\bin\ is in your path
    wdeploy deploy      -u /jakarta
              -i yourserver
              -v https-yourserver
              -d c:\iplanet\examples\jakarta-examples
              C:\iPlanet\Servers\plugins\servlets\examples\web-apps\jakarta-examples\jarkarta-examples.war
    Restart the web server (I don't think you have to restart, but .. might as well).
    2)Deploy your web-application
    My Foo.war has the following structure.
    You can use jar tf Foo.war to look at the file contents from command line (assuming you have JDK installed and the bin is
    in your PATH)
    Foo.war
    - [META-INF]
    - [WEB-INF]
    - web.xml
    - [classes]
    - Bar.class
    - MoServlet.class
    - [lib]
    - ThirdParty.jar
    - [natlib]
    - extlib.dll
    - foo.jsp
    Here is our application scenario:
    foo.jsp uses a class call Bar (it is not in any package). The Bar java class uses classes from ThirdParty.jar. The
    ThirdParty.jar in turn uses JNI to load library extlib.dll. foo.jsp also calls /servlet/Mo as well.
    Now to deploy it, do the following:
    (a) Make sure that within foo.jsp, you import the Bar class ( I don't know why you have to do it, but if you don't you get
    JSP compile error).
    <%@page language="java" import="Bar" contentType="text/html"%>
    (b) Check web.xml (for Servlets)
    Within web.xml, make sure you have the following mappings:
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name> MoLink </servlet-name>
    <servlet-class> MoServlet </servlet-class>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name> MoLink </servlet-name>
    <url-pattern> /servlet/Mo </url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    (c) Deploy the application
    Using command line:
    wdeploy deploy      -u /foo
              -i yourserver
              -v https-yourserver
              -d c:\iplanet\examples\foo-dir
              Foo.war
    (d) Change web-apps.xml file (for picking up ThirdParty.jar)
    It is located in
    C:\iPlanet\Servers\https-yourserver\config
    You should see something similar to following after successful deployment.
    <web-app uri="/foo" dir="C:\iPlanet\examples\foo-dir" enable="true"/>
    Change it to look like following to pick up the ThirdParty.jar
    <web-app uri="/foo" dir="C:\iPlanet\examples\foo-dir" enable="true">
    <class-loader reload-interval="300"
              classpath="C:/iPlanet/examples/foo-dir/WEB-INF/lib/ThirdParty.jar"
              delegate="false"/>
    </web-app>
    (e) Change jvm12.conf file (for JNI)
    It is located in
    C:\iPlanet\Servers\https-yourserver\config
    Add or uncomment the following lines:
    #optional - just helps with instrumenting the jsp and servlet code
    jvm.include.CLASSPATH=1
    jvm.enableDebug=1
    nes.jsp.enabledebug=1
    jvm.trace=7
    jvm.verboseMode=1
    #required for JNI
    java.compiler=NONE
    jvm.classpath=.;C:\JDK1.3.1\lib\tools.jar;C:/iPlanet/Servers/plugins/servlets/examples/legacy/beans.10/SDKBeans10.jar;
    jvm.option=-Xrs
    jvm.option=-Xnoagent
    # not sure if this is needed for iPlanet web server
    jvm.option=-Djava.library.path=C:/iPlanet/examples/foo-dir/natlib/ -Djava.compiler=NONE
    (f) Change magnus.conf file (for JNI)
    We HAD to change this file in order for ThirdParty.jar file to pick up the native C++ code using JNI. Apparently, the
    iPlanet Web Server doesn't pick the Environment Variable Path. Because when we had the directory containing the DLL just
    in Path, it didn't work.
    Change Extrapath directive:
    ExtraPath C:/iPlanet/Servers/bin/https/bin;${NSES_JRE_RUNTIME_LIBPATH}
    to
    ExtraPath c:/iPlanet/examples/foo-dir/natlib;C:/iPlanet/Servers/bin/https/bin;${NSES_JRE_RUNTIME_LIBPATH}
    (g) Apply changes from the Web Server Administration Console and Restart the web server.
    You should be able to see the behaviour that you want from your application.
    http://yourserver/foo/foo.jsp
    Hope this was helpful!!!

    From browser, open http://yourserver:8888/
    Click on Select a Server:Manage
    Click on Virtual Server Class
    Click on https-yourserver
    Click on the Web Applications Tab
    Then, click on Deploy Web Application
    Enter the following -
    WAR File On: Local
    WAR File Path: C:\iPlanet\Servers\plugins\servlets\examples\web-apps\jakarta-examples\jarkarta-examples.war
    Application URI: /jakarta
    Installation Directory: c:\iPlanet\examples\jakarta-examples
    By clicking on OK it deployed the application.
    I can verify that it is deployed by selecting "Edit Web Applications" and I see the following entry:
    Edit     /jakarta     c:/iPlanet/examples/jakarta-examples
    Also, c:/iPlanet/examples/jakarta-examples should have the similar following directory structure ..
    - [images]
    - [jsp]
    - index.html
    - [servlets]
    - [META-INF]
    - [WEB-INF]
    - [classes]
    - [tlds]
    - web.xml
    - index.html
    I restarted the server and accessed it using the following URL from my IE browser:
    http://yourserver/jakarta/index.html
    Then I clicked on the JSP Examples and tried some JSP examples.
    b) Alternatively, you can also deploy the same example from the command-line.
    Make sure C:\iPlanet\Servers\bin\https\httpadmin\bin\ is in your path
    wdeploy deploy      -u /jakarta
              -i yourserver
              -v https-yourserver
              -d c:\iplanet\examples\jakarta-examples
              C:\iPlanet\Servers\plugins\servlets\examples\web-apps\jakarta-examples\jarkarta-examples.war
    Restart the web server (I don't think you have to restart, but .. might as well).
    2)Deploy your web-application
    My Foo.war has the following structure.
    You can use jar tf Foo.war to look at the file contents from command line (assuming you have JDK installed and the bin is
    in your PATH)
    Foo.war
    - [META-INF]
    - [WEB-INF]
    - web.xml
    - [classes]
    - Bar.class
    - MoServlet.class
    - [lib]
    - ThirdParty.jar
    - [natlib]
    - extlib.dll
    - foo.jsp
    Here is our application scenario:
    foo.jsp uses a class call Bar (it is not in any package). The Bar java class uses classes from ThirdParty.jar. The
    ThirdParty.jar in turn uses JNI to load library extlib.dll. foo.jsp also calls /servlet/Mo as well.
    Now to deploy it, do the following:
    (a) Make sure that within foo.jsp, you import the Bar class ( I don't know why you have to do it, but if you don't you get
    JSP compile error).
    <%@page language="java" import="Bar" contentType="text/html"%>
    (b) Check web.xml (for Servlets)
    Within web.xml, make sure you have the following mappings:
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name> MoLink </servlet-name>
    <servlet-class> MoServlet </servlet-class>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name> MoLink </servlet-name>
    <url-pattern> /servlet/Mo </url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    (c) Deploy the application
    Using command line:
    wdeploy deploy      -u /foo
              -i yourserver
              -v https-yourserver
              -d c:\iplanet\examples\foo-dir
              Foo.war
    (d) Change web-apps.xml file (for picking up ThirdParty.jar)
    It is located in
    C:\iPlanet\Servers\https-yourserver\config
    You should see something similar to following after successful deployment.
    <web-app uri="/foo" dir="C:\iPlanet\examples\foo-dir" enable="true"/>
    Change it to look like following to pick up the ThirdParty.jar
    <web-app uri="/foo" dir="C:\iPlanet\examples\foo-dir" enable="true">
    <class-loader reload-interval="300"
              classpath="C:/iPlanet/examples/foo-dir/WEB-INF/lib/ThirdParty.jar"
              delegate="false"/>
    </web-app>
    (e) Change jvm12.conf file (for JNI)
    It is located in
    C:\iPlanet\Servers\https-yourserver\config
    Add or uncomment the following lines:
    #optional - just helps with instrumenting the jsp and servlet code
    jvm.include.CLASSPATH=1
    jvm.enableDebug=1
    nes.jsp.enabledebug=1
    jvm.trace=7
    jvm.verboseMode=1
    #required for JNI
    java.compiler=NONE
    jvm.classpath=.;C:\JDK1.3.1\lib\tools.jar;C:/iPlanet/Servers/plugins/servlets/examples/legacy/beans.10/SDKBeans10.jar;
    jvm.option=-Xrs
    jvm.option=-Xnoagent
    # not sure if this is needed for iPlanet web server
    jvm.option=-Djava.library.path=C:/iPlanet/examples/foo-dir/natlib/ -Djava.compiler=NONE
    ExtraPath C:/iPlanet/Servers/bin/https/bin;${NSES_JRE_RUNTIME_LIBPATH}
    to
    ExtraPath c:/iPlanet/examples/foo-dir/natlib;C:/iPlanet/Servers/bin/https/bin;${NSES_JRE_RUNTIME_LIBPATH}
    (g) Apply changes from the Web Server Administration Console and Restart the web server.
    You should be able to see the behaviour that you want from your application.
    http://yourserver/foo/foo.jsp
    Hope this was helpful!!!

  • How to upload a file into server using j2ee jsp and servlet with bean?

    How to upload a file into server using j2ee jsp and servlet with bean? Please give me the reference or url about how to do that. If related to struts is more suitable.
    Anyone help me please!

    u don't need j2ee and struts to do file uploading. An example is as such
    in JSP. u use the <input> file tag like
    <input type="file"....>You need a bean to capture the file contents like
    class FileUploadObj {
        private FormFile srcFile;
        private byte[] fileContent;
        // all the getter and setter methods
    }Then in the servlet, you process the file for uploading
        * The following loads the uploaded binary data into a byte Array.
        FileUploadObj form = new FileUploadObj();
        byte[] byteArr = null;
        if (form.signFile != null) {
            int filesize = form.srcFile.getFileSize();
            byteArr = new byte[filesize];
            ByteArrayInputStream bytein = new ByteArrayInputStream (form.srcFile.getFileData());
            bytein.read(byteArr);
            bytein.close();
            form.setFileContent(byteArr);
        // Write file content using Writer class into the destination file in the server.

  • When to use jsp,and when to use servlet?

    I think that jsp and servlet can realize the same functions, because when run a jsp, it is transferred to a servlet program, so when to use jsp and when to use servlet?
    I am now developing the input interface for a website, I just use jsp and javabean to connect to weblogic and database, and I didn't use servlet, Is there any unseemliness?
    Thank you!

    IMHO I use servlets to control the flow between my jsp's based on a number of factors in a webapp. For instance, user authorization. If a user has the authorization to conduct various administrative functions on an application (like change user rights, reset passwords etc) they will have access to specific buttons or links on some screens that others will not. I use servlets to establish what access rights a user has and direct them to the appropriate pages. I also use servlets to test data validity on form input screens. I know that I can also do this with JavaScript but that can be disabled by the client and in order to prevent that I also double check the form input from a servlet. All my jsp's do is display the results of a business process (which is held in a JavaBean or EJB) and the servlets act as the controllers for the application, connecting to multiple databases, verifying application state, flow control etc. I try to keep the jsp as simple as possible as some of them are maintained by html developers who lack the necessary experience to write java code. I hope this helps.

  • Configure CRS2008 to using AD and Kerberos with Java application servers.

    Hi All,
    I have configure CRS2008 to using AD and Kerberos with Java application servers. Domain Controller is installed on W2K3 Server. In addition, CRS2008 is installed on another W2k3 Server.
    I have create service account in domain controller: CMSACC
    I have create two user account: CRuser1 and CRuser2
    I have create domain group: CRSGroup
    After I had run the setspn in domain controller,I got the message at below:

    Default AD Domain: BD.com
    Add AD Group(Domain\Group): secWinAD:CN=CRSGroup,OU=TEST,D=BD,DC=com
    Service principal name:BOBJCentralMS/CMSACCatBD.com
    I have create a WINNT folder in root directory.Moreover and save bcsLognin.conf and Krb5.ini at here.
    bscLogin.conf:
    com.businessobjects.security.jgss.initiate {
    com.sun.security.auth.module.Krb5LoginModule required;
    krb5.ini:

    [realms]
    forwardable = true
    BD.com = {
    default_domain = BD.com
    kdc = BDMGTSRV.BD.com
    I have tested the Kerberos,using kinit CMSACCatBD.com password, and got error message at below:

    My problem is failed to logon CMC and infoview and got error message at below:
    Account Information Not Recognized: Active Directory Authentication failed to log you on. Please contact your system administrator to make sure you are a member of a valid mapped group and try again. If you are not a member of the default domain, enter your user name as UserNameatDNS_DomainName, and then try again.
    Actually, I am sucessful to logon Business View manager with CRuser1. However, I fail to logon CMC and infoview and got the above error. Have you any suggestion to solve this problem?
    Ken.

    if you can logon with client tools then that should be an indication that the service account running the CMS IS working! Good news.
    So the problem is likely with the java portion (krb5/bsclogin or java options)
    If the files are in c:\winnt\ (if not copy them there) and perform c:\program files\business objects\javasdk\bin\kinit username
    then enter and password/enter again
    Probably get the same message. To note in your krb5.ini all domain info must be in CAPS (the .com appears to be in lower case)
    kinit works with just the krb5.ini, java SDK and AD (removing BO config and the service account from the picture). Once that works if your java options are specified properly you should be able to login to CMC/infoview.
    also 1 last point. Add udp_preference_limit = 1 to the krb5 lib defaults section
    libdefaults
    default_realm = BD.com
    dns_lookup_kdc = true
    dns_lookup_realm = true
    udp_preference_limit = 1

    Dear Friend,
    I have JBoss application server and Eclipse id

    before that i run jsp and servlet using tomcat5.0 but in that i place my servlet class in WEB-INF/classes folder and do corresponding entry in web.xml file and run it through browser.
    now i want to use JBOSS how it is possible

  • How can I override the DNS Servers and Domain Name used by my Airport Time Capsule?

    The defaults picked up from my ISP's DHCP are to use the ISP's DNS servers and ISP's domain. I do not want this.
    With my prior router I set the DNS servers to Google's Public DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) and my domain to either "bannister.us" (which I own) or "bannister.home". I do not want simple names resolving to some ISP default. (Yes, I know exactly what this does.)
    In the Apple AIrport Utility (version 6.3.2) the fields for DNS and Domain do not allow editing. (Why??)
    Is there some way to override this?

    Unfortunately not one that will work with the latest version TC.
    The way around it is to use a different router.. It can be a very simple router.. I usually recommend units like the TP-Link WDR3600 as they take good third party firmware like gargoyle, openwrt, dd-wrt.. ie they have real controls and beyond that a proper Linux firmware with command line interface.
    You can then change the TC over to static IP. It will not be the router.. but it will effectively become the local dhcp server.
    I have adsl so I cannot reproduce your system.. I have a bridged modem.. a router.. AC66U.. and a TC.. but the TC is not in bridge.. it is in static IP mode.
    Let me demonstrate.
    By setting a range on the main router from 1-199 (leave a space.. ) so set the TC to 192.168.2.201 and then you can set DNS and domain as you like. Set the dhcp range (leave a space) you could use 203-253.. then I use the main router as 254.
    It is brilliant.. all computers behind the TC receive the IP from the TC with whatever IP and dns (and domain although I haven't changed it).. Effectively the TC works as its own dhcp device.. but is merely a secondary dhcp server to the main unit.
    (This gives me netflix which is why I do it.. from well outside the US).
    It may be of use.
    Why leave a space.. well it helps it to work.. I have not tested it but another person reported issues and found leaving a space .. ie last ip in the router.. 199, static ip 201.. first dhcp 203 (i used 205 to help me keep count!!). worked.. I have not tried to reproduce the problem.. so I reproduce the solution.. it might be like sheep jumping over the fence.. even if the fence was removed the sheep keep jumping over at the same place. Just say bahhh and do likewise.

  • How to setup my computer to run JSP and Servlets

    I want to setup my computer to run JSP and Servlets.
    What kind of Servers and other tool i need to install to run JSP and Servlets.
    Plz, Help me to start my work on JSP.
    Regards,
    Usman Ali

    hello
    JSP and servlet is web programming, may be little bit different to development local application.
    1st, you should have two computers: one is server and the other is local workstation. This server should have a static IP address, that other people can go into your server. Workstation is any computer normal you use it.
    2nd, you need to setup your server in: OS(linux or windows 2000), web server (jrun, apach or Tomcat etc. ), as well as install JDK, servlet.
    3rd, your local workstation just use as programming editor and open a browser to testing, anytime you write your code, then ftp to server to test.
    Reality, you have many technical thing to solve, eg setup web server etc. However, you can write your source code and test it, then open to outside people.
    hope to helpness, if anything don't uderstand, you can post again or send email to me [email protected] Since I just have setup this configuration in my university for my project.
