Using Timesten with Clusterware

We try to develop new system using Oracle products. Can you answer me some questions - is it possible to use Oracle Timesten with Clusterware? Does it have any sense? So I guess that in this pair TimesTen can't have its advantages. Am I right or not?

One little addition here, please: Oracle internally we try to make Oracle Clusterware the standard Cluster HA solution for all Oracle applications. One result of those efforts is the "Siebel CRM Applications protected by Oracle Clusterware" TWP that was published recently.
Currently, we are working on more cases like this (each of them takes some testing effort). One of them is Times Ten. Concluding, yes, there are scenarios in which Clusterware can make Times Ten more available, as mentioned before.
However, I would be more interested in the scenarios you would like to cover!? Having a Cluster HA solution does not mean that any HA requirement is covered automatically. Therefore, could you provide more information about your environment and what you try to establish?
Thanks.

  • Using NFS with CLUSTERWARE

    Hi all, i should define a NFS share on a database cluster ORACLE 11gr2 with RAC. The NFS share is obviously on the shared file system (i use GPFS) for management of scripts etc. I would reach it with a single IP, in order to be saved from failures of a cluster node.
    The two cluster nodes have AIX operating system.
    Is ORACLE CLUSTERWARE able to manage this kind of scenario?
    How should i set the NFS sharing?
    Thanks
    Marco

    hi
    as far as I know, you cannot present any cooked filesystem to RAC, just raw devices/LUNs, either phisical or logical.
    if you want to use ethernet medium then think of iSCSI solution with advanced storage arrays.

  • Using TimesTen with Oracle 11g

    In documentation I didn't find any information about supporting by Timesten connects to Oracle 11g. So is Timesten can be connected to Oracle 11g or not? Now I've connected it but I'm not sure in proper work of this pair.

    TimesTen 7.0.3 Cache Connect to Oracle supports Oracle 11g on Linux x86 (32-bit).
    Additional platforms will be certified in upcoming maintenance release.
    What platform are you using?

  • Timesten with JDeveloper and ADF

    Hello,
    I'm using Timesten with Jdeveloper and ADF and have noticed some problems which I allready posted in the JDevloper Forum:
    Re: ADF TimesTen
    These problems arise from using Identifiers with reserved words, which is not forbidden with Ora DB.
    The settings in Jdev are to generate SQL92 conform code. This is the only way it works.
    I'm wondering if there is a setting to make TT behave syntactical 1:1 like a Ora DB.
    I even tried to change the Type Mode to Oracle and restarting TT but this doesn't help eighter.
    Maybe someone of the TT pro's has a solution for this? TT is used as a cache in front of an Ora DB so it should understand the Ora Syntax ??
    Thanks
    Ognian

    for #1 have you tried throwing a verbatim tag around your includes like:
    <f:verbatim>
    <jsp:directive.include file="/includes/footer.jsp"/>
    </f:verbatim>
    it's how we got around intermixing html and jsf

  • JDBC error in PreparedStatement using TimesTen 6.0.3

    TimesTen supports this kind of sql statement
    select rows 3 to 5 * from products
    (it returns 2 rows started from row #3)
    I want to implement this in java thru JDBC
    PreparedStatement pstmt = con.prepareStatement(select rows ? to ? * from products);
    pstmt.setInt(1,3);
    pstmt.setInt(2,2);
    However, I got a JDBC error in the PreparedStatement line
    java.sql.SQLException: [TimesTen][TimesTen 6.0.3 ODBC Driver][TimesTen]TT1001: Syntax error in SQL statement before or at: "?", character position: 13 -- file "ptSqlY.y", lineno 1955, procedure "sbPtParseSql()"
    Anyone encounter this kind of error before? How to solve it?
    Thanks!
    Wellwin
    P.S. I am running this in Linux platform with JDBC driver come with TimesTen for java 1.4

    Hi Wellwin,
    Using SELECT ROWS m to n, you cannot parameterise m or n in order to provide them at execution time. They have to be explicitly stated as literals in the statement…
    If you need to use this with several different values for ‘m’ and ‘n’, there are a couple of options:
    1) Prepare (and subsequently execute) a different prepared statement for each combination of ‘m’ and ‘n’ that you need. This may be fine if there are only a small number of combinations but not a good choice if there are many combinations.
    2) Just use a regular SELECT (without the ROWS m TO n clause) and ‘skip’ the rows in the application code.

  • SQL Tracing in TimesTen with actual data visible

    Hi,
    We're having some issues with our TimesTen-based application where under some circumstances (it appears to increase under load) the results appear to get 'mixed up', i.e. a query appears to not have received the right result set from the database. I know the result set is wrong because we're doing performance testing where each query should actually return exactly the same.
    I also say 'appears' because I think the problem is on the client side, where multiple threads access the database simultaneously and somehow things get mixed up. This happens so deep in the application that increasing the logging on client side didn't tell me what I need to know thus far.. And before I look further, I want to exclude the possibility that the database is mixing up results from queries processed in parallel.
    To accomplish that I would like to enable a TimesTen trace in ttTraceMon where the actual data returned as a result set to the client is visible. Is this possible? There are a lot of components you can trace, I haven't tried them all but at least the SQL component does not show this information, not even at the highest trace level.
    Is there any way to get a view of the actual result set that is being returned to a client, before that client's driver or the application (we use JDBC) actually interprets the results?
    Any clues are greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
    We use TimesTen 11.2.2.
    Kind regards,
    Pieter van Wijngaarden

    The answer sadly is no. There is not currently any trace level that will show data values.
    If you really need to share database connections between application threads then it should be done very carefully. Some rules to observe are:
    1. When a thread is using a connection it should have exclusive use of it. Do not allow multiple threads to make concurrent use of the same connection; TimesTen has internal mutex protection to avoid this causing problems for the database but due to the nature of the ODBC and JDBC APIs it is very hard at an application level to ensure correctness with this approach.
    2. Many objects (statements, result sets etc.) are closely associated with a specific connection. When a thread has 'relinquished control' of a connection it should not then manipulate any object associated with that connection in any way whatsoever.
    For example:
    1. Thread 1 'reserves' connection 1.
    2. Thread 1 issues a query on connection 1 and obtains a result set.
    3. Thread 1 'releases' connection 1.
    4. Thread 2 'reserves' connection 1 and starts to do some work.
    5. Thread 1 starts to process values from the result set obtained in step 2.
    At this point you have two threads working concurrently on connection 1 and all bets are off (and certainly you will see problems).
    Code that violates these rules may seem to work okay with some databases but not with others. That is not the fault of the database but just a happy coincidence. This code pattern is just incorrect.
    Also please note that, unlike Oracle DB, in TimesTen a commit or rollback operation on a connection closes / invalidates all result sets associated with that connection so again if you share connections in a way similar to the above this can also cause you problems.
    Good luck with your debugging.

  • Oracle Timesten with oracle apex

    I use Oracle 11gr2 and apex 4.2.4 how can i use oracle timesten with oracle apex?
    I want to use timesten to improve  performance on report by adding two tables to oracle timsten.

    As far as I am aware, recent (11g onwards) releases of Oracle Heterogenous services do not work with TimesTen as they now require an OBC 3.x driver and the TimesTen driver is currently 2.0. Even if they did work, this would not be a useful solution. It might allow Apex to access TimesTen after a fashion (though that is far from certain) but the performance would be very poor due to all the network hops and software layers between the application and TimesTen.
    If you put one or two tables in TimesTen then one problem from an Apex perspective is that it is now dealing with two databases; the TimesTen cache containing two tables and the oracle database containing all the other tables. Is Apex designed to cope with this? Does it have the concept of data located in multiple databases where one of them is not the Oracle database? Also, do you need transactions or queries (joins) that span the TimesTen tables and the tables in Oracle DB? If so then this also  will not work as that is not possible today.
    I have to say that as far as Apex goes I think this is likely a non-starter. However, if you do try it and have any success then please do post the results here as we'd be interested to hear about it.

    As  Winston Churchill wrote, however you might want to do a factory reset on the Apple TV.
    This way all information pertaining to your daughter will be removed from the device. Specifically if see was sign into any of the streaming service, Netflix, Hulu, etc. her credentials will still be associated with this Apple TV, doing  a factory reset will remove all that and make it as if you purchased the device and just plugged it in.

  • OPEN CURSOR using a WITH clause in the select query

    Hi,
    I am using Oracle 9i. I have a requirement where I have a REFCURSOR as an OUT parameter for my procedure. I have declared the TYPE and created the procedure.
    In the procedure, I am using OPEN <cursor_name> FOR <query>;
    Ideally this works in most of the cases that I have tried earlier. However, in the current case I am using a WITH clause in my query to get the results.
    I need help in understanding if the above mentioned syntax would not allow me to use the WITH clause in the query.

    What error do you get , seems to work ok for me on 10g

    I ordered my Macbook Air with Aperture two years ago. I now have an iMac - can I use that with Aperture in any way? I appreciate that it is a different computer but I am now the end user of both devices and I was just wondering if it was possible.
    Thanks,
    Sean

    The answer would be in your software license agreement for Aperture. However if you cannot locate it you can ask in the Aperture forum, the link for that is:
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/professional_applications/aperture
    However I believe you can have Aperture installed on two machines however only one may be using it at a time.
    On the new iMac launch the Mac App Store - Purchased - look for Aperture and download to your new machine.

  • How do I use user_datastore with a feeder proc to add an mdata section?

    Hi,
    I have text data spread across a number of different tables. I have created a user_datastore with a feeder procedure that creates an xml document which is then indexed into a dummy column on the parent table. This works fine. However I need to add an mdata section to the index, via my xml document. I haven't seen any examples of this being done in conjunction with the ctxsys.auto_section_group option of the create index statement, and am wondering if it is possible?
    Could somebody furnish me an example of how I achieve this.
    Oracle 11.2.
    Thanks
    Ralph

    You can't use MDATA with AUTO_SECTION_GROUP. AUTO means it automatically assigns zone sections for every tag it finds - if you want anything other than zone sections you must use BASIC_SECTION_GROUP, XML_SECTION_GROUP or HTML_SECTION_GROUP and manually define your sections.
