Using unsupported J2SE classes (e.g. java.util.*) with PersonalJava

Hi everybody!
Does anyone know how to use unsupported
J2SE classes in a PersonalJava application?
I would like to use for example the class
java.util.Vector in my PersonalJava application,
but I have not succeeded to do that.
I would be grateful if someone could give
me advice.

To use vector you have to be careful only to use the java 1.1.x functionality, ie don't use any of the functions that it inherits from Collections, as they were Java 1.2.
In reality this means that you need to use addElement instead of add etc.
Hope this helps

    I use mountain lion 10.8.1
    I try start disk utility it only says: "You can't use this version of the application Disk Utility with this version of Mac OSX. You have Disk Utility 12.1"

    To do a Reinstall of the OS boot to the Recovery HD, Command+r key at startup, then select Reinstall Mac OS X. the files will be downloaded from the internet and then the instal will begin.
    With Mt Lion it is also available from the Mac App store in your Purchases area. You may be able to download it and then nmanually starting the install while booted to Mt Lion.
    But I'd normally use the Recovery HD as that takes the installed OS out of the picture.

  • Can we use an overloaded constructor of a Java Bean with Session Tracking

    Hi Friends,
    If any one can solve my query.... It would be helpful.
    Query:
    I have a Java Bean with an overloaded constructor in it. I want to use the overloaded constructor in my JSP.
    1. One way of doing that is to use it directly in the "Scriptlets" (<% %>). But then I am not sure of the way to do session tracking. I think I can use the implicit objects like "session", "request" etc. but not sure of the approach or of the implementation method.
    2. Another way is through the directive <jsp: useBean>. But I cannot call an overloaded constructor with <jsp: useBean>. The only alternative way is to use the directive <jsp: useBean> where I have to write getter and setter methods in the Java Bean and use the <jsp: setProperty> and <jsp: getProperty> standard actions. Then with this approach I cannot use the overloaded constructor.
    Can any one suggest me the best approach to solve this problem ?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Gaive.

    My first reaction is that you can refactor your overloaded constructor into an init(arguments...) method. Instead of overloaded constructor, you can call that init method. This is the ideal solution if possible.
    As to the two choices you listed:
    1. This is OK, I believe. You can use scriplet to define the bean and put it into session scope of the pageContext. I am not sure exactly what you meant by session tracking; whatever you meant, it should be doable using HttpSessionAttributeListener and/or HttpSessionBindingListener.
    2. Agreed. There is no way that <jsp:useBean> can call a constructor that has non-empty arguments.
    Please tell me how it works for you.

  • Using a VB Class from a Java Web Application

    Hi,
    I need to instance a VB class, and then to invoke their methods, from a java web apllication. The code is:
    Set object = CreateObject("AS2.OBJECTS")
    If object.PutName(sCadenaError, sEntidad) Then
    Array1 = object.getData(sCadenaError, iEntorno, False)
    End if
    "AS2" is the VB dll library. "OBJECTS" is the class to instance. And "PutName" and "getData" are the methods that the web application has to call.
    Can I instance the class from Java, and use the methods with the same data types? What steps have I to do in JNI?
    Thanks in advance,

    You are right, I guess my question is a good candidate for RTFM!
    I should have searched also on help.ondemand.com
    I just looked into SDN and ui5 sdk help.

  • USage of import java.util.* & using another package

    When we use import java.util.*; from where does JAVA take the class that are related to util, when I did search for "util" in my machine, I got about 50 results for folders named util and also some where in a folder called "java" when I opened it it did not have the classes, that I was expecting. So I am not clear where does it get the class files from. This is not only for this but for any import commands like import java.io.*;
    When we get another package or source code which was written in java and want to use it in our code where do we have keep the files ? eg. i have the java code that i m writing in c:\java then do I put all the downloaded related files in that folder and then run the code ? or i keep a folder inside java folder and then import them into my code ?
    please do advice.
    Thanks in advance.

    When we use import java.util.*; from where does JAVA
    take the class that are related to util,It means when you use a classname in your code, and that classname is neither in the same package as the class you're writing, nor imported specifically by classname, that it will search for it.
    Where it searches is every folder called util whose parent folder is called java which in turn is at the root level of one of the classpath elements. That is, if classpath contains "A" and "B", and you refer to a class called "Foo", then it will look for "A/java/util/Foo.class" and "B/java/util/Foo.class".
    search for "util" in my machine, I got about 50
    results for folders named util and also some where in
    a folder called "java" when I opened it it did not
    have the classes, that I was expecting. So I am not
    clear where does it get the class files from. This is
    not only for this but for any import commands like
    import java.io.*; All the java.* and javax.* and whatever else it part of the core API is in rt.jar, which lives inside the Java distribution. Classpath elements can be directories or jar files or zip files.

  • Model generation error when using java.util.List in JavaBeans

    hi there,
    when I try to generate model classes from JavaBeans classes,

    The error is:

    [Warning]:This relation cannot be added as the TargetModelClass is not specified
    [Error]: There are one or more relations unresolved. Importing the model without resolvoing the relations might result in erratic output.
    Must I use a workaround or does anybody know something about this problem ? Installed: NW SP12

    I can write my own serialization, or use the code that was generatedby

  • Java.util

    Hello,
    I've been programming in java since about Christmas and everything was going (more or less) fine. A few weeks ago I left it for a while but then went back to it and saw that alot of my programmes that were working fine weren't working anymore. I couldn't run or compile any of them.
    After a while I noticed that all the programmes that weren't working anymore involved localization and classes from the java.util package (ResourceBundles, Locale...). Frankly, I'm extremely confused because to me this makes no sense at all. I know they were all working perfectly before.
    Unfortunately I don't know much about the internal workings of java so is it possible that something could have gone wrong with some file or tool responsable for java.util? I'm not quite sure how this could have happened (I'm not really in the habit of randomly deleting files) but it's all I can think of. Unless I'm somehow imagining things or someone's been messing with my pc. Or maybe I'm doing strange things in my sleep...
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Phil.

    Or maybe I'm doing strange things in my sleep...Many people do strange things in their sleep :)
    Have you installed new software, like the J2ME toolkit? J2ME is kind of like a thinned version of Java for small devices like palm computers and mobile phones. Check that it is the javac from your j2se SDK installation that you are using to compile.

  • Getting no output from java.util.logging.FileHandler

    I am new to Java as is the company I work for, but we have just landed a contract that specifies J2EE as the platform, so here we are. :-) Please bear with me.
    I have been charged with determining our logging architecture and it looks like what is available in java.util.logging will do well (though we may use log4j). However, at this point I am just trying to get anything to work and not having much luck.
    We are using JSF on the front end and I have created a very simple JSF page to test logging. The relevant code is below and I hope will be self explanatory: This code is not meant to be efficient or anything. It is just a proof of concept.
        public String button1_action() {
            // User event code here...
            try {
                Logger l = java.util.logging.Logger.getLogger(Page1.class.getName());
                l.entering(Page1.class.getName(), "button1_action");
                l.info(this.textField1.getValue().toString());
                l.exiting(Page1.class.getName(), "button1_action");
                java.util.logging.Handler h = l.getHandlers()[0];
                h.flush();
            catch(Exception ex) {
                //I have tested this and we aren?t catching any errors.
                System.err.println(ex);
            return "";
        }My logger.properties files looks like this:
    handlers= java.util.logging.FileHandler
    .level= FINEST
    java.util.logging.FileHandler.pattern = c:/sun/logs/test-%u.log
    java.util.logging.FileHandler.limit = 50000
    java.util.logging.FileHandler.count = 1
    java.util.logging.FileHandler.formatter = java.util.logging.SimpleFormatterI have developed and tested this in Sun Studio Creator 2004Q2 What is happening is that I am getting three log files in c:/sun/logs
    test-0.log, test-1.log and test-2.log. The first two contain output from various sun components. (sun.rmi.transport for example). The third log remains empty. (zero length)
    I have also deployed the test app to a tomcat 5.0.28 server and get similar results. The only difference is I get only one two log files and the second one remains empty.
    Any assistance or suggestions as to what direction I should be taking would be appreciated.

    Do not use default logger as getLoggers[0] , but use your java.util.Logger.FileHandler and add filehandler object to log your fButtonActions and you do not need to mess with logger.properties too.

  • Java.util.PropertyPermission...not granted to ProtectionDomain(Stored Proc)

    I'm trying to develop a java stored procedure on Oracle 10.1.2 that makes use of many other libraries, (Axis, WSIF, custom libs), and I'm stuck on this permissions error. I've loaded all of the libs into the same schema under the same user, (with JAVA_ADMIN), and several other privileges. I loaded the files using the following command, "loadjava -verbose -debug -recursivejars -genmissing -resolve -time -fileout loadJava.log -user {userID}/{pwd}@{SID} someJar.jar". The error occurs when a call to WSIFProperties.getProperty attempts to access the org.apache.wsif.mapper or org.apache.wsif.mappingconvention properties.
    In a normal java2 environment, I'd simply edit the java.policy file to provide permissions to the codebase (file:/C:/spi4j2.5.4_J2ee1.4/coreLib/fsgWsif1.1.jar). Since Oracle doesn't have ProtectionDomains, if I add read permissions for those properties using the following command, "call dbms_java.grant_permission( 'SCHEMANAME', 'SYS:java.util.PropertyPermission', 'org.apache.wsif.mapper', 'read' )", it seems as if all of the other classes in the schema should be able to read the property, right? It appears the logfile dump below is showing the permissions that the classloader recognizes. Where did he get those? If they came from the DBA_JAVA_POLICY view, then why can't it pick up on the fact that I've granted read permission to the property it's trying to read? When I tried loading the classes without using the -recursivejars option, I got all kinds of ClassDefNotFound errors and couldn't even start the program, (I guess because it'd loaded the other jars as resources instead of unpacking the classes, the resolver couldn't look into the jars and locate the classes that it needed). The program works just fine outside of the database, (even without me adding read permissions for the codebase to access the properties in the java.policy file). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

               fh.setFormatter(new SimpleFormatter());
               logger.addHandler(fh);
               logger.setLevel(Level.ALL);
               logger.log(Level.INFO, "Initialization log");
               // force a bug
               ((Object)null).toString();
             catch (IOException e)
                  logger.log( Level.WARNING, e.getMessage(), e );
             catch (Exception e)
                  logger.log( Level.WARNING, "Exception", e);
    }But when I use this class...
    import java.io.File;
    import java.io.IOException;
    import java.text.DateFormat;
    import java.text.SimpleDateFormat;
    import java.util.Date;
    import java.util.logging.FileHandler;
    import java.util.logging.Handler;
    import java.util.logging.Level;
    import java.util.logging.Logger;
    import java.util.logging.XMLFormatter;
    public class TraceUtils
      public static Logger logger = Logger.getLogger("log");
      public static void initLogger(String ApplicationName) {
        Date date = new Date();
        DateFormat dateFormat = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyyMMdd");
        String dateStr = dateFormat.format(date);
        String logFileName = dateStr + ApplicationName + ".log";
        Handler fh;
        try
          fh = new FileHandler(logFileName);
          fh.setFormatter(new XMLFormatter());
          logger.addHandler(fh);
          logger.setLevel(Level.ALL);
          logger.log(Level.INFO, "Initialization log");
        catch (IOException e)
          System.out.println(e.getMessage());
    }and I call it in a backingBean, I have the message in console but the log file is not created.
    TraceUtils.initLogger("SEC");why?
    Thanks for your help.

    I have uncommented this line in logging.properties and it works.
    # To also add the FileHandler, use the following line instead.
    handlers= java.util.logging.FileHandler, java.util.logging.ConsoleHandlerBut I have another problem:
    jdev ignore the parameters of the FileHandler method .
    And it creates a general log file with anothers log files created each time I call the method logp.
    So I play with these parameters
    fh = new FileHandler(logFileName,true);
    fh = new FileHandler(logFileName,0,1,true);
    fh = new FileHandler(logFileName,10000000,1,true);without succes.
    I want only one log file, how to do that?

  • Java.util.Arrays.sort for Vector

    I used the java.util.Arrays.sort to sort an array based on the method below.
                  java.util.Arrays.sort(array, 0, total, new ComparatorX());
               repaint();
                class ComparatorX implements java.util.Comparator
              public int compare( Object p1, Object p2){
                   int x1=((Point)p1).x;
                   int x2=((Point)p2).x;
                   if(x1>x2)
                                return 1;
                   if(x1>x2)
                                return -1;
                   return 0;
         }I've since changed the array to a vector. Is there anyway I can keep the comparator. Or how can I sort the vector based on the above method.

    BTW: Don't know if it's just a typing mistake, but your code contains an error:
    class ComparatorX implements java.util.Comparator     {
       public int compare( Object p1, Object p2) {
          int x1=((Point)p1).x;
          int x2=((Point)p2).x;
          if (x1>x2) {
             return 1;
          if (x1>x2) {  // Should be: if (x2 > x1) ...
             return -1;
          return 0;

  • Forte and MIDlet - how do you keep Forte from seeing J2SE classes?

    I am developing MIDlets with Forte; I have created a new MIDlet within a MIDlet suite, using the HelloWorld template.
    However Forte lets me use any old class in my code, not just the MIDP classes. For example, if I write a
    Float f = new Float();
    line in my code, Forte will compile without batting an eyelid, even though there is no Float class in MIDP.
    How can I keep Forte from accepting the use of J2SE classes when compiling MIDlets?
    Thanks

    OK, fixed - here's what I did:
    - I went to Project/Settings/Compiler Types and I moved the J2ME Wireless Internal Compilation on top of the list
    - then to Project/Settings/J2ME Wireless Settings and make sure that the J2ME Wireless Internal Compilation was the default compiler
    - then Project/Settings/Java Sources/Default compiler and set the compiler again
    -then I went to Tools/Global Options/J2ME Wireless Options and set "Check default compiler" to false
    Now it works!Perhaps there are useless/contradictory steps in there, but at least now my code is only compiled against MIDP classes and not J2SE classes.
