Using XML in sub select
Hmmmm
Stuck again, it seems as though I am not the sharpest tool in the box when it comes to XML. Boss seems to love XML though....
In SQL I have the ability to do something similar to the following :
SELECT * FROM JOBS
WHERE JOB_ID IN(SELECT JOB_ID WHERE ACTIVE = 1)
In this scenario no real need to do a sub select however it demonstrates my point.
Is it possible to achive this using an XML document in my sub select?
eg something like
SELECT * FROM JOBS WHERE JOB_ID IN(EXTRACTVALUE(var,xpath JOB_ID)
If I had a big list would this iterate through each instance of the value I want to join on???
Have a look at the XML DB technical whitepaper

Sample XML format that can be used to write a SELECT query
Hello,
I want to use and XML file in the scenario FILE to JDBC where i use the operation as SELECT in which i want to embbed an sql statemnet which is equivalent to
SELECT EMPNO, NAME FROM EMPLOYEE WHERE EMPNO>1
as in the form of XML format like,
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<ns0:MT_JDBC_SELECT_JDBC_REQ xmlns:ns0="http://JDBC_SELECT">
<STATEMENT>
<TABLENAME ACTION="SELECT">
<TABLE>EMPTEST</TABLE>
<ACCESS>
<EMPNO></EMPNO>
<NAME></NAME>
</ACCESS>
<KEY>
<EMPNO compareOperation="GT">1</EMPNO>
</KEY>
</TABLENAME>
</STATEMENT>
</ns0:MT_JDBC_SELECT_JDBC_REQ>
Can i do like this?
PLease help me out in using various conditions in the XML file formats like the above.
Thanks,
Soorya.Hello raj,
I would like to write the query in that format where i mentioned as,
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<ns0:MT_JDBC_SELECT_JDBC_REQ xmlns:ns0="http://JDBC_SELECT">
<STATEMENT>
<TABLENAME ACTION="SELECT">
<TABLE>EMPTEST</TABLE>

</ACCESS>
<KEY>
<EMPNO compareOperation="GT">1</EMPNO>
</KEY>
</TABLENAME>
</STATEMENT>
</ns0:MT_JDBC_SELECT_JDBC_REQ>
without giving clear SQL statement as you mentioned here like,
<ns0:MT_JDBC_SELECT_JDBC_REQ xmlns:ns0="http://JDBC_SELECT">
<STATEMENT>
<TABLENAME ACTION="SQL_QUERY">
<ACCESS>SELECT EMPNO, NAME FROM EMPLOYEE WHERE EMPNO > '$EMPNO$</ACCESS>
<KEY>
<EMPNO>1</EMPNO>

</TABLENAME>
</STATEMENT>
</ns0:MT_JDBC_SELECT_JDBC_REQ>

Delete statement that uses a sub-select with the statement in the cursor
Hi all,
How to write write a delete statement that uses a sub-select with the statement in the cursor?
CURSOR excluded_dates IS
SELECT TO_TIMESTAMP(report_parameter_value, in_date_format_mask)

FROM report_parameters
WHERE report_parameters.report_parameter_id = in_report_parameter_id
AND report_parameters.report_parameter_group = 'DATE_TIME'
AND report_parameters.report_parameter_name = 'EXCLUDED_DATE';
OPEN excluded_dates;

FETCH excluded_dates INTO my_excluded_date;
EXIT WHEN excluded_dates%NOTFOUND;
DELETE FROM edr_rpt_tmp_inclusion_table
WHERE TO_CHAR(date_time, 'mm/dd/yyyy') = TO_CHAR(my_excluded_date, 'mm/dd/yyyy');
END LOOP;
CLOSE excluded_dates;ThanksHi,
In such case I think is better to create a view an perform the delete using it. Example (using HR schema):
Connected to Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0
Connected as hr
SQL> create or replace view v_employees as select * from employees where first_name like 'J%';
View created

SELECT statement using XML data taking way too long.
Hi all, I am using SQL Server 2005.
I have an issue which I find hard to describe. The server that I am using contains two test databases which are (supposed to be) identical. They both have tables named EVENTS with identical fields. I am using XML data to query and update data to this table.
When I run the SELECT in one database, against the EVENTS table it takes a long time. The longest I've kept it running is 2:30 minutes. When I run it against the EVENTS table in the other database the results are almost instantaneous. I've created a test
query to duplicate this behavior:
declare @ValidXMLInput xmlset @ValidXMLInput = '<EVENTS>
<EVENT EID="8077" EDATE="2014-07-20 10:15"
USERID="GTJ789" LOCID="7016" STATE="0" />
</EVENTS>'
SELECT Col.value('@EID','VARCHAR(5)'),Col.value('@STATE','INT')
FROM @ValidXMLInput.nodes('//EVENTS/EVENT') Tab(Col)
left join tblEvents on
tblEvents.EvIdNum=Col.value('@EID','VARCHAR(5)') And
tblEvents.EvDate=Col.value('@EDATE','DATETIME') And
tblEvents.UserId=Col.value('@USERID','VARCHAR(8)') And
tblEvents.EvLocId=Col.value('@LOCID','VARCHAR(8)')
where tblEvents.EvIdNum Is Null
Basically, the above query returns all rows in the XML table that are not in the database table. The results are then passed on to other statements.The columns in the join are key fields for tblEvents and have a PK index for both tables (in each db).
Now the issue that I am having. When I use an EID in the XML data of any other value (as presented in the example above), such as '3477' the query runs fast on both databases; however, when I specifically use an EID of '8077' then the query slows down to
a point where it takes more than 2:30 minutes (after which I cancel the execution). This only happens with one of the databases.
For testing purposes I've created an XML structure with only one item. Both tables have approximate 111 million records. One table contains about 900K records with an EID of 8077. The other table contains about 930K records with this EID. There aren't many
differences in the data. The records with the EID of 8077 (the slow one) are for different dates, users and locations. I should also mention that although the data presented here for EID consists of number, provisions exist where the number may be prefixed
by a letter; hence the varchar designation.
My question to you all is: How can I start troubleshooting this issue? Should I be looking at indexes?
I had some doubt about this because the query is fast for other EIDs. Why would it get "stuck" with this particular one?
Any troubleshooting advice is welcomed. Thanks! Saga
Insanity is the prelude to discoverySome thoughts:
Is there a hardware difference between the two databases ? E.g. are they on the same disk (array) ?
Is there anything else running on your server besides your SQL instance ?
Do you see spikes in I/O, CPU or both ?
Maybe there is locking on one DB that's not happening in the other.
You should check indexes and statistics plus compare estimated execution plan between the two DBs.

Insert Using SELECT & Sub-SELECT
Hi All,
I am trying to insert records into a table using SELECT statement. The SELECT statement has a Sub-SELECT statement as follows:
INSERT INTO table1(c1,c2,c3,c4,c5)
SELECT c1,c2, (SELECT MAX(C3)+a1.c3
FROM table1
WHERE c1 = var1
AND c2 = a1.c2
GROUP BY c3),c4,c5,
FROM table1 a1
WHERE c1 = var1
The above works fine when run from SQL*PLUS but gives compilation error when included in PL/SQL pacakge.
I am using Oracle 8.1.7.
Could you any one please tell me if I have missed something?
Thanks,
Satyen.In 8i, you will need to use dynamic SQL to execute this statement because the PL/SQL parser does not understand all SQL syntax (including SELECT in a column list).
execute immediate
'INSERT INTO table1(c1,c2,c3,c4,c5)' ||
' SELECT c1, c2, (SELECT MAX(C3)+a1.c3 FROM table1 WHERE c1 = :var1 AND c2 = a1.c2 GROUP BY c3), c4, c5' ||
' FROM table1 a1 WHERE c1 = :var1' using var1, var1; -
Data types used in a sub VI - selecting the correct input and output types?
data types used in a sub VI - selecting the correct input and output types?
I can never work out how to choose an input or output format for Subvi's.
I want to create a SubVI for the code in red. I needs an VI Server Reference compatible input and an output that goes to a waveform.
Thanks in advance.

data types.PNG 11 KBGerdW,
I realise now I have taken us in the wrong direction. apologies for that.
History, this is not my code and I do not own the process and NOT my preferred method of using it. I was looking for a simple way to make subtle changes.
What we do - We use these programs to collect data from typically 6 pressures and 6 temperature probes and capture RS232 / USB VISA strings from sensors.
So every few weeks / months or up to a year we rearrange each sensor location to suit the new process. I did not write the code. I cannot change the procedure too much without resistance.
So headers in the CSV file have the DaqMX string passed through the code. Great.
Other data to the CSV file comes from calculations or extracted from the VISA string. Hence why we have headers with "Untitled 1 ()". These values also go to a History Chart.
So I was looking for a simple way to read the the local variable label as it is always linked to the front page indicator. People can cope with editing the indicator label, save the VI and hit run.
TL;DR - GerdW is now a psychologist.

Using an Aggregate Function in a Sub-SELECT
Ok. I have this Sub-SELECT and I'd like to base my outside query based on the resyult set of my inner Sub-SELECT which contains an Aggregate function.
Is that possible???
Here's the Query...
SELECT *
FROM CUSTPRO.CPM_PND_TRAN_HDR CPMPNDTH
INNER JOIN (SELECT CPMPNDT2.ky_pnd_seq_trans,
CPMPNDT2.id_ba_esco,
CPMPNDT2.ky_ba,
CPMPNDT2.ky_enroll,
MAX(CPMPNDT2.dt_billed_by_css)
FROM CUSTPRO.CPM_PND_TRAN_HDR CPMPNDT2
WHERE CPMPNDT2.ky_pnd_seq_trans IN (6544937)
GROUP BY CPMPNDT2.ky_pnd_seq_trans,
CPMPNDT2.id_ba_esco,
CPMPNDT2.ky_ba,
CPMPNDT2.ky_enroll) DERIVE1
ON CPMPNDTH.id_ba_esco = DERIVE1.id_ba_esco
AND CPMPNDTH.ky_ba = DERIVE1.ky_ba
AND CPMPNDTH.ky_enroll = DERIVE1.ky_enroll
AND CPMPNDTH.dt_billed_by_css = ????DERIVE1.MAX(CPMPNDT2.dt_billed_by_css)???
How can I designate that last qualifier ????....
PSULionRPYou should give your aggregate function a column-alias as in:
SELECT *
FROM custpro.cpm_pnd_tran_hdr cpmpndth
INNER JOIN (SELECT cpmpndt2.ky_pnd_seq_trans,
cpmpndt2.id_ba_esco,
cpmpndt2.ky_ba,
cpmpndt2.ky_enroll,
Max(cpmpndt2.dt_billed_by_css) as XXX -- ADDED THIS.
FROM custpro.cpm_pnd_tran_hdr cpmpndt2
WHERE cpmpndt2.ky_pnd_seq_trans IN (6544937)
GROUP BY cpmpndt2.ky_pnd_seq_trans,
cpmpndt2.id_ba_esco,
cpmpndt2.ky_ba,
cpmpndt2.ky_enroll) derive1
ON cpmpndth.id_ba_esco = derive1.id_ba_esco
AND cpmpndth.ky_ba = derive1.ky_ba
AND cpmpndth.ky_enroll = derive1.ky_enroll
AND cpmpndth.dt_billed_by_css = derive1.XXX

How Do You Use XML To Create Image Upload On A WebSite?
Hello,
Could some one please help me understand how to create web image gallery and web video gallery using XML? I have found few xml codes that could be used to do this but I am not so sure how to use them. I want my clients to be able upload images and videos with linking thumbnails to Image and or Videos. Do you think the codes I included in this question will help me achive this goal? And do I need to put all in one and in the same directory so it will work? Please help with your idea and tell me how you would use these codes and how you may step-by-step implement the idea your self to your own web site.
I have also included the instruction I found on the web with the codes.
Starting with You Tube, API on their video gallery, here are the codes I found,
Assume you are to use the YouTube, XML code; What will you change here so it will work on your own www.domain.com?
<% Dim xml, xhr, ns, YouTubeID, TrimmedID, GetJpeg, GetJpeg2, GetJpeg3, thumbnailUrl, xmlList, nodeList, TrimmedThumbnailUrl Set xml = Server.CreateObject("MSXML2.FreeThreadedDOMDocument")
xml.async = False
xml.setProperty "ServerHTTPRequest", True
xml.Load("http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/users/Shuggy23/favorites?orderby=updated") If xml.parseError.errorCode <> 0 Then
Response.Write xml.parseError.reason End If Set xmlList = xml.getElementsByTagName("entry") Set nodeList = xml.SelectNodes("//media:thumbnail") For Each xmlItem In xmlList
YouTubeID = xmlItem.getElementsByTagName("id")(0).Text
TrimmedID = Replace(YouTubeID, "http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/videos/", "")
For Each xmlItem2 In nodeList
thumbnailUrl = xmlItem2.getAttribute("url")
Response.Write thumbnailUrl & "<br />"
Next Next
%>
For the image gallery, the following are the codes I found with your experience do I need to use the entire codes or just some of them that I should use?
CODE #01Converting Database queries to XML
Using XML as data sources presumes the existence of XML. Often, it is easier to have the server create the XML from a database on the fly. Below are some scripts for common server models that do such a thing.
These are starting points. They will need to be customized for your particular scenario.
All these scripts will export the data from a database table with this structure:
ID: integer, primary key, autoincrement
AlbumName: text(255)
ImagePath: text(255)
ImageDescription: text(2000)
UploadDate: datetime
The output of the manual scripts will look like:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<images>
<image>
<ID>1</ID>
<album><![CDATA[ Family ]]></album>
<path><![CDATA[ /family/us.jpg ]]></path>
<description><![CDATA[ here goes the description ]]></description>
<date><![CDATA[ 2006-11-20 10:20:00 ]]></date>
</image>
<image>
<ID>2</ID>
<album><![CDATA[ Work ]]></album>
<path><![CDATA[ /work/coleagues.jpg ]]></path>
<description><![CDATA[ here goes the description ]]></description>
<date><![CDATA[ 2006-11-21 12:34:00 ]]></date>
</image>
</images>
These are all wrapped in CDATA because it is will work with all data types. They can be removed if you know you don't want them.
Note: If using the column auto-generating versions, ensure that all the column types are text. Some databases have data type options like 'binary', that can't be converted to text. This will cause the script to fail.

I thought the whole process was supposed to be a bit more seemless? Having to upload/download documents and manually keep them in sync will leave a lot of room for errors.
It's kinda painful the way iOS doesn't have folders. It makes things incompatible with the Mac and means you can't group files from multiple apps into a single project - who organises their digital life by the apps they use?
I think I'll recommend they use their iPad only.
Thanks for that.

How to create a report using XML data source from Crystal Report Designer
Hi,
Iu2019m having Crystal Report Designer XI R2 SP4. Iu2019m trying to create a report using XML data source stored on disk. This is a customer order report and the xml is structured in such a way that it has an order details header part (master) and then it has several order lines (detail). One order line can have several order line characteristics (detail-detail). So what I need to know is now I can design this layout from the designer. If this was done using views I can do it with sub-reports but using xml data this seems to be different. Can you help me to design this layout? I have included the xml and xsd as well.
Thank you in advance.

Chanaka

</xs:schema>Hi Sourashree,
Thank you for the response and ideas you have given me so far. I can get the fetch the data from the data source without any problem. That is I do the following,
1. New Report
2. From Create New Connection-> XML
3. Provide the u201CLocal XML Fileu201D and have u201CSpecify Schema Fileu201D checked -> Next
4. Provide the u201CLocal Schema Fileu201D -> Finish
Then I can see the following under XML

Then I come to the Linking section. Here I canu2019t link anything. There is a common field called u201CInternal_IDu201D but I canu2019t link using it. So I get a message when I click Next. From here I add all the fields.

Not getting Euro Symbol in PDF Report using XML Publisher
Hi,
We have developed an Oracle Report from Report Builder 6i and also a Template in RTF Format.
We are using XML Publisher to display our XML Output in PDF Format to Users..
There is a Field called Comments on Customer Transaction Form, where user can enter any characters and that we are querying in Report and displaying on the PDF Output.
Currently, the user entered a Euro Character on the comments section and that was not visible to user on PDF Report and replaced by a Question Mark as below:
"3% price reduction ?89.91, 20% marine"
When i am Querying to the Database, i am able to see the Euro Symbol, but when i checked the XML generated on the Unix Box for the Report. I found as below:
"3% price reduction \342\202\25489.91, 20% marine"
So, the Euro Symbol on the database is replaced by " \342\202\254" in the XML Output and ? in the PDF Outbut.
Please help ASAP.

Unable to view image if the size is more than 3KB using XML Publisher.
Hello,
We are printing PO approver signature using xml publisher (rtf) on a pdf.
If the size of the image is 3KB or less, the image gets printed.
But, if the size is more than 3KB the image does not get printed.
Additional Info:
1. The signature is stored as jpg image in fnd_lobs table.
2. On following code is mentioned in the rtf
<fo:instream-foreign-object content-type="image/jpg">
<xsl:value-of select="IMG_SIGNATURE"/>
</fo:instream-foreign-object>
3. We are using the following function that converts BLOB to CLOB.
CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION XX_BLOBTOBASE64
b IN BLOB
RETURN CLOB
IS
sizeb PLS_INTEGER := 4080 ;
buffer RAW(4080);
offset PLS_INTEGER DEFAULT 1;
RESULT CLOB;
BEGIN
-- dbms_lob.createtemporary
-- lob_loc => RESULT
-- , cache => FALSE
-- , dur => dbms_lob.CALL
-- LOOP
-- BEGIN
-- dbms_lob.READ
-- ( lob_loc => b
-- , amount => sizeb
-- , offset => offset
-- , buffer => buffer
-- EXCEPTION
-- WHEN no_data_found
-- THEN
-- EXIT;
-- END;
-- offset := offset + sizeb;
-- dbms_lob.append
-- ( dest_lob => RESULT
-- , src_lob => to_clob(utl_raw.cast_to_varchar2(utl_encode.base64_encode(buffer)))
-- END LOOP;
DBMS_LOB.createtemporary(lob_loc => RESULT, CACHE => FALSE, dur => 0);
Wf_Mail_Util.EncodeBLOB ( b, RESULT );
RETURN RESULT;
END;
Requesting any of you to let us know if there is any method to resolve this issue.
Thanks,
Angelica.Hi,
Are you using Outlook.com to send/receive emails? Based on my research, we can only add an image/ picture in your e-mail signature that’s Web based (picture that is available in existing websites or stored in an online storage). See:

Ramin Hashimzade -
I'm using the same code base to compile different versions of a project. Each project has different base fonts. I've created multiple css files that use the same style names. The idea being that in the code I reference the style names, then the loaded CSS determines which font (and size, color, etc) is used for each style name.
The CSS files are compiling to SWFs, and those SWFs are referenced in config.xml files. Before compiling, I select the config file to use.
I am loading the CSS SWF files via the StyleManager in the Application.mxml, like so:
styleManager.loadStyleDeclarations( _contentData.elements( 'cssPath' ).@path )
The path traces out correctly as:
assets_embed/styles/project2.swf
For some reasone I must include an fx:Style line in the Application.mxml file or no fonts are recognized. Example:
<fx:Style source="assets_embed/styles/project1.css"/>
If I reference the css for project one (as done above) then most, but not all, styles work. Some styles reference the fonts from the project 1 css, others properly use fonts from project 2 swf. If I point to the CSS for the project I'm compiling in the <fx:Style > tag then all fonts work, but that defeats the goal of using XML rather than code to identify the styles.
So, why do I need the fx:Style line if the css is being loaded via StyleManager?
Why is there "cross talk" between style definitions?
Is there a better way to select styles at compile time?I read this quickly so I might have missed a detail. I think your describing an issue with recent Flex releases that is described in the fine print somewhere. If you don't have any fonts embedded in the main app and are only bringing in fonts embedded in CSS SWFs, you have to force-link the EmbeddedFontRegistry by adding something like this to the main app's script block.
import mx.core.EmbeddedFontRegistry; EmbeddedFontRegistry;
(Yes, "EmbeddedFontRegistry" is in there twice, once to define the fully qualified name, the other to create a class dependency to force the linking). -

I have already posted a detailed message for the XML iview problem sometime back but havent got any reply so far. All the replies had come from users who are also facing the same problem. I am trying to use a XML iview for fetching RSS feeds from one of the internet source, i have entered the proper URL and selected the proper RSS to XHTMLB transformer also and have entered the proxy settings in the http service and enabled it and restarted it also, but again when i am previewing the Iview its giving me the error <b>"Error while using XML Iview, please contact your system administrator."</b>. Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Sarabjeet.Hi Sarabjeet,
The XML iView uses server-side fetching, so if you are having problems with a regular URL iView in server-side fetching mode, so the problem with the XML iVIew probably has to do with the proxy settings.
And since you got a 407 error, it seems there is an issue with proxy settings or the proxy server, as mentioned in this description of 407 error:
The HTTP 407 code only applies to users who are accessing the Internet behind a proxy server. This is common in government and corporate workplaces. The 407 code indicates that your computer must first authenticate itself with your company's proxy server. Check with your IT department or computer support group as to the exact reason why you may be getting this error. It may be possible that the proxy server does not allow downloads of specific files (exe, cab, com). You can also verify that your proxy server settings are valid.
I will check if I can find out any more specific info.
