Utilities shortcut not working (shift+cmd+U)

Hi all,
I recently got a new external HD and backed everything up A-OK. Did a repair permissions and restart and all is well...except: when I use my keyboard shortcut to access my utilities (shiftcmdU) it no longer works. The keyboard shortcut for the applications folder works fine, and everything seems to be in it's proper place, but I can't figure this out, and I really use keyboard shortcuts alot. Anyone know how to fix this?
Another note: during the backup I accidentally deleted my applications folder. I caught it before emptying the trash, and moved them from the trash. However - I put them in the wrong location at first, then moved them to the correct one. So I don't know if my computer somehow got the shortcut for the utilities stuck in the wrong location?
Thanks!

A couple of things look at:
In the Finder, is there a Utilities menu item in the Go menu (Go -> Utilities)?
If so, does accessing the shortcut via the Go menu open the Utilities folder?
You might also try deleting the Finder prefs (com.apple.finder.plist) in ~/Library/Preferences and relaunching Finder, though, frankly, it doesn't appear the Finder's shortcuts are stored there, so that probably won't help.

  • CMD+ shortcuts not working in Dreamweaver CS3

I'm have a very strange issue with CMD+ keyboard shortcuts
not working in Dreamweaver CS3 on OSX 10.5. These actions are
working from the menus (i.e., copy, cut, paste, etc.). CMD+

Has anyone experienced this problem? I'm completely stumped.

  • PS5 Action Keyboard Shortcuts Not Working

PS5 Action Keyboard Shortcuts Not Working -- Running 10.6.7 on a Mac Pro. Any suggestions?
I've tried restarting, changing key combinations, etc. Nothing works and I'm wasting time using my mouse...
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I had this problem too but using Windows 7. I tried resetting, renaming the shortcuts, swearing loudly, none of it worked. I found out it was a totally unrelated program, Xfinity Protection Suite, that was the culprit.  My virus protection program added it as an 'upgrade.'  AFter I uninstalled it everything was back to normal. Have you installed anything new onto your computer lately that could be interfering?

  • CMD+ shortcut not working on Czech keyboard

    Hello,
I have this problem. CMD+ and some other shortcuts are not working or are working weird on Czech keyboard. For example it works in Preview (sometimes) but not in Safari.
On Czech keyboard there is + sign on the key with number 1. (normal press = "+" shift and press = "1"). When I activated Keyboard Viewer in could see that when I press CMD the "+" key turns to "1". So then its impossible to press CMD+. The weird thing is that in Preview it sometimes works like CMD+ and sometimes like CMD and 1 (I really don't know why, in both cases i have a pdf file opened).
Then I tried setting CMD and 1 as a shortcut for Zoom In instead of CMD+. Here is another weird thing. When I pressed CMD+ the shortcut was set to CMD+ with no problem, but when I want to use it it always acts as CMD and 1.
Can somebody explain me why this all works weird like that or maybe can somebody look into it and fix it somehow?
    Thanks
    Regards
    Milan

This could be lots of things.  I'd say it was some type of system corruption.
First, thing is to define a new user  & see if the problem exits there.
If not, -- good news -- it is probably some finder preference.  You need to delete the finder preferences.
Otherwise, the corruption is somewhere else.
    the  swag stuff…
You may want to run these "standard" fixes if the problem persists.
Check the amount of free space on your harddrive.  You should have a several gigs free.
    You should run disk utility
    a) verify the disk
    b) update your permissions.
    Try a safe boot.
Shutdown your machine.  Hold down the shift key.  Poweron.  Wait awhile Wait awhile while you harddrive is being checked.

You may want to run applejack to clean up your machine.

  • Finder keyboard shortcuts not working (cmd-c, cmd-v, cmd-a)

All of a sudden, the edit menu cmd functions are not working, such as cmd-v, cmd-c, cmd-a.
    Cmd-p still works.
Using a bluetooth keyboard, all the commands work.
But the built-in keyboard will not work for these functions, even under a newly created user account.
    Thoughts?

Have you tried searching for Cut in the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog? Perhaps is somehow got assigned to a new command.
you may also want to try deleting your preferences. Hold down Option+Shift when launching Premiere.

  • Shift-Tab Keyboard Shortcut not working

For some reason, my Shift-Tab keyboard shortcut is not work in TextEdit, PowerPoint, and NeoOffice. Has anyone else run into this problem?
It's very annoying having to deal with Bulleted lists and setting the proper indentation!
I did a clean install of Leopard as well as updating to the 10.5.1 patch just released.

Well, I found the problem. The new Speech option, "Speak selected text when key is pressed" to the Shift+Tab combo by default. Changing this to something else or disabling it fixes the problem.

  • Ctrl and shift alt shortcuts not working in Illustrator CS4

    Hi
Can´t seem to get these keys to work properly.
For instance while drawing with the rectangle tool then pressing shift to get a square does not give me a square, all I get is a tooltip balloon saying "shift" same goes with ctrl and alt and spacebar. This only happens while using my wacom graphire 3 not with the mouse. Trying to use the up and down arrows to shange the number of points in a star also not working. But if I FIRST click the shift key then start creating a square its working, but not if I first start creating the rectangle. Photoshop cs4 does not give me this problem. Using Vista 32 bit swedish language, latest Wacom driver 5.0.8-6, latest keyboard driver and a swedish microsoft natural pro keyboard, latest logitech mouse driver. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

Fonts... there are probably the most guilty of that cases. Ask yourself: when you add (drop, be forced) new fonts in your system, by management spoftware (directly into font folder)? Notice when web browser "ask" you about access to your fonts on your HD in last time (so often last days). When you "dig" somthing in a system, at any way, you disturb his  "sacramental peace" (Ohmmmm...) and it flow in other case like sensitive Illustrator or others -  I think all other "movements" eg. reinstaling, deleting, etc just "cover" problem by something others (for a short time) or don't resove it at all.
So, first try... rebuild you system maintenace privilages (do this every month or often! Try Atomicbird Macaroni or Titanium Onyx or so, than...
try rebiuld/refresh/clean your font cach ( I use for this, and manage, FontExplorer X Pro) and should be fine.
    ..."should" I'm not guarantee 100%
    PS
I have no idea what should be done on PC

  • Custom Keyboard Shortcuts Not Working In Layer Style / Blending Options Dialogue Box (Mac OS 10.6.8)

In the Layer Style / Blending Options dialogue box, my custom Keyboard Shortcuts to zoom in and out of the image is no longer working. Cmd+opt+shift+1 acts as cmd+1 (jumps to Drop Shadow), and cmd+opt+shift+0 acts as cmd+0 (jumps to Stroke). Outside of this box the commands seem to be working fine.
Example 1: Create a new RGB document, cmd+j the background layer, double-click this layer to open the Layer Style / Blending Options dialogue box, mash Cmd+opt+shift+1.
Result 1: The dialogue box shift focus to the Drop Shadow Options instead of the image zooming in to 100%.
Expected Result 1: The image should zoom to 100%.
Example 2: Create a new RGB document, cmd+j the background layer, double-click this layer to open the Layer Style / Blending Options dialogue box, mash Cmd+opt+shift+0.
Result 2: The dialogue box shift focus to the Stroke Options instead of the image zooming to “Fit on Screen”.
Expected Result 2: The image should zoom to “Fit on Screen”.
This same thing happened in the CS5 Beta, and it was quickly fixed, so I hope this is not a complicated issue.
Thanks, and keep up the wonderful work!

  • Paste in Place shortcut not working

My Paste in Place shortcut (cmd+shift+v) is not working in Adobe Illustrator CC (Updated) for Mac OS X.
It works when I manually press the command in the edit menu, but not when I use the keystrokes
When the shortcut is initiated, the software behaves as if nothing was pressed
It is showing as the proper shortcut when I view my shortcut preferences
When I try to re-type the shortcut in the preferences, it acts as if nothing was pressed
    I've tried uninstalling SubScribe Plug-in
I've tried uninstalling Illustrator and then downloading again
    I've tried resetting Illustrator preferences
I'm using the Apple Wireless Keyboard
I've tried using another keyboard and that didn't work either
Please help me, this is affecting workflow

    jwbrobst,
What about Cmd+V for Paste (centre of the view), Cmd+F (place in front in the same place), or Cmd+B (place in back in the same place)?
Have you actually selected an object to paste?
Did you reinstall using the full three step way?
Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

  • Keynote keyboard shortcut not working?

The keyboard shortcsst for increasing indention and decreasing indentions are not working in Keynote 9.3. I have not really used Keynote before, so I don't know whether these keyboard shortcuts have worked in the past or not, but they are on the list of keyboard shortcuts at https://help.apple.com/keynote/mac/6.1/#/tan951def1c9
Does anyone have any info on this item? (I really dislike drilling down through the Inspector to increase or decrease indentions!

Try resetting Keynote by removing it, (use Appcleaner from Mac Update .com to do this, it is freeware)
start up in safe mode (press shift key immediately after the start chime) it will take longer to start up as the OS is being repaired
when the Mac is fully booted:   Applications > Utilities > Disk utility >
click the System hard drive in the list >first aid tab > Repair Disc
    reboot normally
re-install iWork and install updates for Keynote
