Vaildating typed data for a search help

Hi Experts,
I have a scenario wherein i have a field which is attached to a dictionary search help, when i type some value in this field without using F4 how should i validate the value, Is it automatically done by the dictionary search help..

Hi,
I am not sure about webdynpro..
I will explain you in normal dialog programming..
Create a Z structure z_scr_1000.
Then in that structure add the field TPLNR..Then select that field and choose the foreign key button..It will propose the table IFLOT..
Then when you create an input field in the dialog program..
Give the field name as z_scr_1000-TPLNR..
Then it will a give popup to refer the DDIC ...Press yes to continue..
IF you execute the dialog program..
Then if you enter a value which is other than the one in the table..It will give a error message...

What is the significance of data collection nad search help exit field ?

Dear Gurus
I know i am asking very basic quetion of abap but sdn is the only source to learn sap for me.I want to thanks you all for your kind support.
i read most of the post related to search help and trying to create one.
for elementary search help.
SE11 -> SEACH HELP -> ELEMENTARY SEARCH HELP
I have doubts regarding to fields "DATA COLLECTION" and "SEARCH HELP EXIT".
reference to a tutorial it is a maintenance view shall i have to reate a maintenace view first.
and other field is SEARCH HELP EXIT what is this.
please help me .

Howdy,
DATA COLLECTION - refers to a database table or view. This is the data that the search help will search through and display based on the parameters provided, so you can create your own view for the search help if you want the search to cover multiple tables.
SEARCH HELP EXIT - You can create a function module to be able to alter the Search Help's selection and results at various events throughout the search help. An example of this function module is provided with some documentation in function module F4IF_SHLP_EXIT_EXAMPLE.

I have created a search help. I need to create a search help exit for this search help.
Please let me know how to create a search help exit as well as how to link it to my search help.

1)Copy the FM F4IF_SHLP_EXIT_EXAMPLE to write your own FM. (check the documentation and coding of FM F4IF_SHLP_EXIT_EXAMPLE).
2)write your code depending upon the functionality you want.
3)attach the FM in search help through SE11 in "search help exit" field.
A search help exit is a function module for making the input help process described by the search help more flexible than possible with the standard version.
This function module must have the same interface as function module F4IF_SHLP_EXIT_EXAMPLE. The search help exit may also have further optional parameters (in particular any EXPORTING parameters).
A search help exit is called at certain timepoints in the input help process.
Note: The source text and long documentation of the above-specified function module (including the long documentation about the parameters) contain information about using search help exits.
Function modules are provided in the function library for operations that are frequently executed in search help exits. The names of these function modules begin with the prefix F4UT_. These function modules can either be used directly as search help exits or used within other search help exits. You can find precise instructions for use in the long documentation for the corresponding function module.
This module has been created as an example for the interface and design of Search help exits in Search help.
All the interface parameters defined here are mandatory for a function module to be used as a search help exit, because the calling program does not know which parameters are actually used internally.
A search help exit is called repeatedly in connection with several events during the F4 process. The relevant step of the process is passed on in the CALLCONTROL step. If the module is intended to perform only a few modifications before the step, CALLCONTROL-STEP should remain unchanged.
However, if the step is performed completely by the module, the following step must be returned in CALLCONTROL-STEP.
For more detailed information please refer to the documentation describing the concept of the search help exit.
The module must react with an immediate EXIT to all steps that it does not know or does not want to handle.

Date selection and search help component in jsp

To do it, use next code:

Not able to get the data in custom search help.

I am working on web UI and i need help asap.
I want f4 help whose value depends on the other fields drop down.somhow i managed to get the values in local table and passed it to static attribute of the z class ZL_CRM_UIU_ZZORDERADM_H0201_G.
in this z class i have redefined a method IF_BSP_WD_CUSTOM_F4_CALLBACK~RETRIEVE_CUSTOM_VALUES.
which returns a table CT_RESULTS_TAB of type as f4.i have taken key n values in this table too.but the below code should populate the value in the field.but m not getting the values.

How to include a date range in Search Help

I need to include a range for a date field in a Search help.
That is I have to add From Field and To Field for the same field in the search help.

If you are going to add an entirely new field (not existing in the SAP standard search), try using EEWB and for the query on that field would be a modification to the Model access class.

How to display our own selected data in a search help using a exit

Hello,
I had created a Search Help Exit to restrict the values to be displayed in the search help. This code was written under the event 'DISP' in the exit. But it is not giving the desired result. So I want to replace the RECORD_TAB of the exit with my own selected data. For this I had written code for selection under the event 'SELECT'. But when I try to overwrite RECORD_TAB with this, this create errors.
What should I do to overwrite the values of the RECORD_TAB field with my own values?

Change data element in search help

Hi at all,
how can i change the data elemte of an parameter in the search help?
The selektion method of the search help is a view and the data element comes from the DB.
Maybe it is possible to change the length of the parameter in the result list? That would help, too!

Is it helpful? In search help show full name, but in parameter, only 8 first chars. Is it what you want to do?

SAP GUI for JAVA - Search Help ALV display

I need to be able to display search helps in the ALV grid format or the ' Dialog Modal ' option as seen on the Settings for all F4 helps tab under the personalize option for search helps.
Currently when I am using a Macintosh machine the system ignores the system setting and my personal settings and displays all search results in an ABAP List format. Unfortunately the ABAP list format does not work correctly when used to input a field on another ABAP list report.
This behaviour can be found on the Mozilla Firefox browser when SAP GUI for HTML and the SAP GUI for JAVA.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your detailed explanation on how the ALV grid control is implemented for the SAP GUI for Java. This has been pretty insightful. The good news is that I finally figured out a solution to my problem. You see I inherited an old custom program where an ABAP list is used as an interactive data capture screen with input fields. Well a couple of fields had search helps. The program has worked fine with the regular SAP GUI until a MAC OS user tried to use it with the SAP GUI for Java. Whenever they selected a line from the search help it would bring back the entire onto their input screen.
A sample of the code:

The problem was being caused by the fact that the search help ABAP list was overriding the sy-XXXX values for the current line contents, index, pageno, cursor row for the calling ABAP list. So when a user selected a row from the search help this would now become the current context and be transferred back to the calling program.
The fix was pretty simple; all I had to do was save the current line context and the context prior to calling the search help. After the search help was run I would then replace the current line with the saved one in my local variable. I hope this makes sense. We now have a couple of happy MAC OS users.

Data display from search help.

Dear All,
I create a search help from T005 table with 2 parameter LAND1 and LANDX.
I have a zempinfo table which have a field LAND1.
when I want to insert data in zempinfo table I get data for LAND1 from search help. In the meantime I want to display LANDX 's data in a screen by a DISPLAY_ITEM.
DISPLAY_ITEM is not a zempinfo table field. IT is a screen element only.
Now help me please, to display data LANDX into DISPLAY_ITEM.

Though land1 landx are same table fields. I want to use only one search help.
When I enter value in LAND1 from search help, DISPLAY_ITEM automaticaly get data crossponding value of land1 from landx.
e.g. when we create a SO by tcode VA01. in this screen we enter the MATNR value & crossponding other field display its related data.
IF any way do this pls help that.

Access Account assignment data inside custom search help

I have faced with a challenge and I am stuck. Need some expert advise. I am developing a custom search help for GL account. Inside the search help exit I have to know what is the account assignment category of the accounting line i am currently accessing in WEB UI. for example i have one item in SC and there is a cost distribution between cost center and WBS element. Now i want to access GL account search help from second line in the account assignment ( ie from line having WBS as Acc Assignment).
one approach that i can think of is Enhance Accounting WD component and capture the details in a static attribute of a custom class and access them inside the search help exit. I know this will work. But i am looking for more clean approach.
I saw below code in WD comp method GET_BO_INFO of component controller.

How to set displayed column width for a search help

I have created an elementary search help for a custom field with a value table behind it.
The search help functions correctly, but when displayed the column widths are all 10 characters. The user has to adjust the column to view the descriptive text.
Can anyone tell me how to set default column widths for the help?

Translation for a search help

Dear experts:
My origenal system is Italian system, when I log in with Chinese system and open a search help for a screen field, the pop up screen of the search help can not show the correct characters. So my question is what I should do to show the correct character in the search help screen? Can I use translation function to do it? How to translate it?
The search help is created in dictionary for the field (PLKOD-PLNNR).
