Validate dates in oracle forms

Hello everyone. I have a field column in my form , ORDER_START_DATE.
The date format is DD.MON.RRRR
Now I want to add a validation to this field and I know you have least allowed value as a field property.
I want to make sure the least allowed value is SYSDATE, but sysdate using the format DD.MON.RRRR. That is, today should be the least allowed value excluding the hour or minute.
Can anyone help me to achieve this in oracle forms?
Thanks a lot.

$$DATE$$+1 would not work because its a system-variable you can take (copied from forms-help):
any valid constant form item (:block_name.item_name)
global variable (:GLOBAL.my_global)
form parameter (:PARAMETER.my_param)
Means you need to put the value that should be checked for in a block.item/parameter/global variable.

  • Validate Data in Web Form

    we want to validate data in web form in planning through Java Script Code ?
    how we can do it and what is the location of that Java Script file ?
    One more thing ... if we make any changes in Java Script code then is it necessary to stop and start planning server or application ?
    Thanks in Advance ..... :-)

    Hi,
    you can resolve this problem, adding a JavaScript code in validateData.js.
    For example you can change and/or insert the code in validateForm function, that save the data only if the function return true.
    There are also another function and the code example in SampleValidateData.js that you can see.
    You find the ValidateData.js in the folder "custom" of your installation.
    For example:
    /default web application directory/deployments/your web server/HyperionPlanning/webapps/HyperionPlanning/custom
    I report an example for control the data before saving it:
    function validateForm(){
    if (equalsIgnoreCase(applicationName,"BDG"))
    if (equalsIgnoreCase(formName,"1.10A ECO"))
    var rowPrecVers = currentDataGrid.endRow;
    var colPrecVers = 2;
    var rowActVers = 3;
    var colActVers = 3;
    var valTotPrecVers = 0;
    var valTotActVers = 0;
    valTotPrecVers = currentDataGrid.fullPrecision[rowPrecVers][colPrecVers];
    for(rowActVers; rowActVers < currentDataGrid.endRow; rowActVers++){
    valTotActVers = valTotActVers + parseFloat(currentDataGrid.fullPrecision[rowActVers][colActVers]);
    if(valTotPrecVers < valTotActVers){
    alert("Ops!!!Don't match" + "\n"
    + "Previous Version: " + valTotPrecVers + "\n"
    + "Actual Version: " + valTotActVers);
    valid = false;
    return valid;
    else{
    return valid;
    Insert and modify this code in validateForm function.
    If in your installation use Tomcat web server, you must save the change on the ValidateData.js file each time. If you use the WebLogic web server tou must restart the service. For other web server I don't know.
    Take it easy and have fun!!!

  • Validate from list (Oracle Forms)

    Hi all,
    Does anybody know, how to simulate "Validate from List" functionality from the oracle forms with JDeveloper 10.1.3.
    The case is for example (Empl, Dept), I want to create a table for the empl showing the empl info plus department name and allow the user assign the empl to a given department using only the name and not the department id.
    Many thanks in advance.

  • Problem inserting date in oracle forms

    I have a data block called CUSTOMER and a TEXT ITEM called
    DOB which is used to enter the Date of birth (date).
    I have a SAVE button, on its trigger WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED,
    I have the following code
    insert into test values
    (to_date(:customer.dob,'dd-mon-yyyy'));
    commit;
    When i run the form it gives the error
    FRM-40508: Oracle error: unable to INSERT record
    But when i run the same trigger with sysdate (as shown below)
    it runs perfectly, i mean the row is inserted into the database.
    insert into test values
    (to_date(sysdate,'dd-mon-yyyy'));
    commit;
    If someone can offer some assistance regarding this problem,
    I will appreciate that.

    Whenever you get an "Oracle Error" it means the form is happy but the database is complaining about something. You can select help > display error from the menu to see the sql it is trying to run and what the problem is.
    Incidentally, why are you going to the trouble of trying to write code to do something which a forms block does automatically ?

  • We want to read data from weigh bridge and display in oracle forms & store

    Sir/Madam,
    in our organisation we had one requirement. i.e is reading data from weigh bridge using serial port, displying that data in oracle forms and when ever user click save button we store that into my oracle database. we are using oracle 8i and forms 6i and windows OS environment. we don't know reading data from serial port and placing that into form items. please help me as early as possible if there is any property available in d2k regarding this requirement .
    thank you,
    vishnu

    There's no property in Forms that makes you read serial ports, but as far as I know you need to know the API of the machine which you want to read data from (it should come with machine's manual) and then it will be easy to store it in forms item.

  • Copy/Paste more than 64K from Excel to Oracle Forms

    We need to copy from Excel more than 64K of data into Oracle Forms 10g. After the copy/paste action. The data will be split and saved in the database. The data contains 6000 fields of each 14 characters.
    What we tried: Create a Long field in forms (maximum size 64K) and process the data which is in this field. But by using PLSQL the maximum size is only 32K. So currently we can only copy and process 32K at a time.
    Is there a way to process over 64K from an excelsheet via Oracle Forms 10g R2?
    Can it be done via Java and how?
    Is it possible to read the clipboard in parts of 30K blocks and paste it in the Long field block with multirecords?
    Restrictions:
    We are not allowed to do file upload and process it on the server side.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hello,
    In the form, you can use Text Items that have datatype as long, so you can strore 64K.
    I do not understand the problem with the PL/SQL, because you can pass 32Ko chunks as many as needed.

  • Access Flat Files From Oracle Forms Using Simba

    Hi,
    I need to access Flat Files using Simba and display the data using Oracle Forms on Solaris. The Flat Files, Simba and Oracle Forms is on Solaris.
    Thanks.
    Sanjay R Naidu.

    Hi,
    not knowing the flat file's format and why you need SIMBA for it, Forms provides a text_io package that can read from files. You need to parse the file's content and then bring this to a datablock.

  • Microsoft Access and Oracle Forms

    Hello All,
    I have a requirement pertaining to fetching data from Microsoft Access Tables from an Oracle Form and posting that data in an oracle Database 9i eventually.The exact entities from Access Databse needs to be replicated with data upload through Forms9i...
    Please send me the technology aspects of this and an insight how this can be achieved...
    Regards,
    Kapil Uppal

    Kapil,
    If I remember well, there exists a database migration assistant to turn Access databases to Oracle.
    However, Forms9i no longer has an Oracle Call Adapter (OCA)component which would be required to make Forms9i work with ODBC databases. Oracle's database connect strategy is to use gateways instead.
    Removing OCA could be a hot topic to discuss, but the decision made was based on the assumption that Forms9i is Web only and therefore no client side databases are used.
    Not sure if Microsoft Access allows you to perform JDBC connects, as this would be an option to get data into Oracle Forms (requires some coding though).

  • Data migration from Forms to Reports

    Hello,
    Does anyone know how to migrate numerous data from Oracle forms to reports, without using parameter lists or parameters, and also withour the use of temporary tables since my platform is 8.0.6 and forms 4.5?
    Thanks for any replies

    hi daniel,
    you could write your data from forms into a text file. seperate
    the values using for example a comma (or something else).
    use the text datasource in reports 9i to query directly from
    this file.

  • Oracle Forms New Features - Your input.  Supporting data types

    I am interested to know IF we were to support any new database types in Oracle Forms 11g, which types would you like supported and why. I'd also like to know if you are currently working around the absence of a database type.
    Please note, this is not any kind of commitment to support new data types in Oracle Forms applications but we are interested to know if there is demand and if so, for what types.
    Thanks
    Grant Ronald
    Oracle Forms Product Management
    p.s lets keep the thread focused on the topic so please don't post technical questions or comments about different new features - if you want to, start a new thread - thanks

    Hi Grant,
    support for the "new" - well they exists since 9iR1 ... 2001 - data types TIMESTAMP, TIMESTAMP WITH TIME ZONE, TIMESTAMP WITH LOCAL TIME ZONE, INTERVAL YEAR TO MONTH and INTERVAL DAY TO SECOND would be very helpful.
    Currently it's not possible to use the Data Block Wizard to create a data block for table/view that contains one of these columns.
    (In Forms Builder 10.1.2.3 it fails with a strange error message ... iewbdbc_oracle_to_id ... C:\forms\101220\src\ie\iewbdb.c:724 ...)
    So, one has to create the data block and the items manually. The items have to be CHARS.
    Then forms is able to fetch and display these columns. The user can edit them as normal.
    A WHEN-VALIDATE-ITEM trigger can be used to make sure that the implicit conversion from CHAR to the "new" datatype works.
    For example, an INTERVAL YEAR TO MONTH column (b):
    declare
      l_invalid_interval exception;
      pragma exception_init(l_invalid_interval, -1867);
      l_invalid_month exception;
      pragma exception_init(l_invalid_month, -1843);
      l_dummy interval year(9) to month;
    begin
      l_dummy := to_yminterval(:block2.b);
    exception
      when l_invalid_interval
      then
        message('invalid interval');
        raise form_trigger_failure;
      when l_invalid_month
      then
        message('invalid month');
        raise form_trigger_failure;
      when others
      then
        message(error_text);
        raise form_trigger_failure;
    end;This nasty trick works for most of the "new" datatypes except with TIMESTAMP WITH TIME ZONE.
    In Forms 10.1.2.3 the following WHEN-VALIDATE-ITEM trigger can (incorrectly!) fail:
    declare
      l_dummy timestamp with time zone;
    begin
      l_dummy := to_timestamp_tz(:block2.a);
    end;It fails with "ORA-01804: failure to initialize timezone information", if the time zone is not like "-11:00", but like "EUROPE/PARIS". Don't know why...
    If we recode our trigger to make a round-trip to the database, it works:
    declare
      l_dummy timestamp with time zone;
    begin
      select to_timestamp_tz(:block2.a)
      into   l_dummy
      from dual;
    end;We could avoid these tricks, if Forms (and Reports) would support these type natively.
    Thanks, Michael
    PS: The TIMESTAMP and INTERVAL data types should of course be supported as items, parameters, globals and record groups columns.

  • In Oracle Forms, to run all the When-Validate-Item of all the items at once

    In Oracle Forms, is there any built-in / procedure / function which is used to run all the When-Validate-Item triggers of all the Items at once ?
    I will put it in detail :
    When a form is run and while entering the data..
    when we enter some data and try to move out of that item then the When-Validate-Item trigger of that item is fired and the code in that trigger is executed..
    Similarly there may be many items and many When-Validate-Item triggers correspondigly in a form..
    My requirement is to run all the When-Validate-Item triggers of a form at once when we click a button which is created for that purpose only..
    So is there any built-in / procedure / function (to run all the When-Validate-Item triggers of all the items), which can be called in the When-Button-Pressed trigger of that particular button..
    If any one having any solution/suggestion, please let me know..
    Thanks..

    Hi Sandy,
    Thanks for your suggestion..
    The validations should be done at Item level (When-Validate-Item as usually) and seperately again when a button is pressed.
    So to put all the code in another block-level When-Validate-Item trigger or in any When-Button-Pressed trigger will be duplication of the code.
    Actually I have around 30 Fmbs to be modified and each Fmb is having around 20 Items and almost all Items are having When-Validate-Item trigger.
    So,I wanted to know whether there is any Built-in / Procedure in Oracle Forms which runs all the When-Validate-Item triggers once it is called.
    Thanks..

    Summary:
    NEW: MICROSOFT CHANGED OLE INTERFACE FOR OFFICE97
    +=+
    Solution Description:
    =====================
    WORD:
    Microsoft made some changes in the upgraded version of Word
    which cause it
    to
    come up as a hidden application. Customer had to add "AppShow"
    to his code,
    and ole automation works fine now.
    EXCEL:
    The issue here is that Microsoft changed the object "Workbooks",
    which is
    now
    a property of object "Excel.Application". So, replace the call:
    workbooks := ole2.invoke_obj(application, 'workbooks');
    with
    workbooks := ole2.get_obj_property(application, 'workbooks');
    For example:
    PACKAGE BODY olewrap IS
    -- Declare the OLE objects
    application OLE2.OBJ_TYPE;
    workbooks OLE2.OBJ_TYPE;
    workbook OLE2.OBJ_TYPE;
    worksheets OLE2.OBJ_TYPE;
    worksheet OLE2.OBJ_TYPE;
    cell OLE2.OBJ_TYPE;
    args OLE2.LIST_TYPE;
    procedure init is
    begin
    -- Start Excel and make it visible
    application := OLE2.CREATE_OBJ('Excel.Application');
    ole2.set_property(application,'Visible', 'True');
    workbooks := OLE2.GET_OBJ_PROPERTY(application, 'Workbooks');
    args:=OLE2.CREATE_ARGLIST;
    OLE2.ADD_ARG(args, 'c:\test\ms\excel\test.xls');
    workbook := OLE2.GET_OBJ_PROPERTY(workbooks, 'Open', args);
    OLE2.DESTROY_ARGLIST(args);
    worksheets := OLE2.GET_OBJ_PROPERTY(workbook, 'Worksheets');
    worksheet := OLE2.GET_OBJ_PROPERTY(worksheets,'Add');
    -- Return object handle to cell A1 on the new Worksheet
    args:=OLE2.CREATE_ARGLIST;
    OLE2.ADD_ARG(args, 1);
    OLE2.ADD_ARG(args, 1);
    cell:=OLE2.GET_OBJ_PROPERTY(worksheet, 'Cells', args);
    OLE2.DESTROY_ARGLIST(args);
    -- Set the contents of the cell to 'Hello Excel!'
    OLE2.SET_PROPERTY(cell, 'Value', 'Hello Excel!');
    END;
    procedure addstuff is
    BEGIN
    -- Return object handle to cell A1 on the new Worksheet
    args := OLE2.CREATE_ARGLIST;
    OLE2.ADD_ARG(args, 2);
    OLE2.ADD_ARG(args, 2);
    cell:=OLE2.INVOKE_OBJ(worksheet, 'Cells', args);
    OLE2.DESTROY_ARGLIST(args);
    -- Set the contents of the cell to 'This is the added stuff'
    OLE2.SET_PROPERTY(cell, 'Value', 'This is the added stuff');
    END;
    procedure stop is
    begin
    -- Release the OLE objects
    args:=OLE2.CREATE_ARGLIST;
    OLE2.ADD_ARG(args, 'C:\OLETEST2.XLS');
    OLE2.INVOKE(worksheet, 'SaveAs', args);
    OLE2.DESTROY_ARGLIST(args);
    OLE2.RELEASE_OBJ(cell);
    OLE2.RELEASE_OBJ(worksheet);
    OLE2.RELEASE_OBJ(worksheets);
    OLE2.RELEASE_OBJ(workbook);
    OLE2.RELEASE_OBJ(workbooks);
    OLE2.RELEASE_OBJ(application);
    END;
    Solution Explanation:
    =====================
    Microsoft changed some of the OLE calling interfaces for the
    Office97
    products. Thus, some of your existing OLE calls may need to be
    changed to
    comply with the Office97 interface.
    Consult with Microsoft and your Office97 documentation or more
    information
    on
    what the OLE interface is for the Office97 suite of products.
