Variable header for books

I asked this about a month ago and I’m still looking and hoping for an answer on the possibility:
I have a bunch of User Manuals set up as books with with the chapters as individual files.
Several chapters are being used in more than one book.
The challenge: Is there a way to set up a Variable Header to pick up the book name?
For example:
The footer has the file/chapter name: "Getting Started".
The header must reflect the book name, not the file/chapter: "Installation Guide"

A file can be used in multiple books with no problems (other than those you might introduce by synching styles with different definitions, but the same names, or synching the numbers), but you are asking to do something that is unsupported in any form.
Cross references could be set up t a single document that contains the text for a single book name, but, aside from the unreliability of cross-document cross-references, that isn't going to help you either since the reference would be an absolute link, not a variable that would change with the name of the book the file was currently residing in.
One thing that might work would be to make a "master file" that has no header info or page numbering. Instead of linking this file via the book panel, place the pages from the master file into multiple other documents as required, and add the headers and numbering in the files where you place them. They would behave in a manner similar to linked graphics. Edit the master, then update the links.

In Oracle Service Bus 10.3 how can I set the header for the service being invoked. We make parallel calls to 2 different business services. One of the invoked service requires header to be set and I am unable to figure out how it can be done. Below are snippet of the code and WSDL.

In Oracle Workshop for WebLogic when I create a split-join .flow file while adding the invoke service call to login operation I am prompted to create the loginRequest and loginResponse variables. I can assign the appropriate expression to loginRequest.loginRequestElement prior to making the invoke call but then the backend business call fails because "systemLangCode" is not defined and set. Actual fault is

There is this $header variable which you should populate before calling the BS. What is the type of BS? If it is WSDL BS , Any Soap BS then above solution will work. I assume that yours is WSDL based BS and setting $header should resolve this issue.
AnyXML and Messaging type BS services requires that you create proper pay load (setting $header will not work).
There is also other actions Set Transport Headers {outbound request/inbound response} which can be used to set transport related headers but not soap headers.

Use of variables in "FOR XML PATH"

Other than using dynamic sql (which we don't want to use) is there a way to use a variable in For XML Path, e.g.

In terms of general XML design this is poor. An element is normally a 'thing', and the attributes are normally the properties of that thing. Therefore in your case you would have a Book property with a 'name' attribute. It would be impossible
to create an XSD for your xml, and makes it awkward for readers of your xml - how do they know the book name beforehand? Creating this xml in the normal fashion would also make it easy to create without any messing around ( string manipulation,
other hacks ), eg
DECLARE @BookName NVARCHAR(20) = 'SomeBook'
SELECT
@BookName "@name"
-- Other book attributes
FOR XML PATH ('Book'), ROOT('Books'), TYPE
So now you have a Book item(s) within a Books collection. Easy! : )

Looking for some creative guidelines for book formatting

I am formatting a book, my first one, and am about to start refining the overall formatting to make it look beautiful. I'm running into a bit of a creative block, and am looking for some basic guidelines for book formatting. I'm wondering about fonts, how many to use, ideas about heading heiarchy's, fonts for tables relative to the rest of my text, etc. I have everthing formatted, but it just looks ackward and ugly because I don't have a sensitivity to the standards.
Does anyone know of a resource where I could find some guidance on this?

Getting an error when sending a draft for review in CPS
Files involved
index.cfm calls <cfinclude template="#header#">
located in application.cfm
application.cfm calls <cfparam name="Header"
default="header.htm">
header.htm contains header info
When I click "send for review "the draft process will load
however it displays the following. Of course I could resolve the
issue by placing the header and application files in
D:\website\htdocs\MMWIP\ but I have hundreds of headers for
different subsites. Does anyone know why this is not working or how
I could resolve it. Thank you for your time.

It can be mostly due to any one of following reasons:-
It is missed to be defined in code.
This global variable may not be accessible.
Page defining it is missing.
Page defining it may not be accessible due to slow server performance issue.

Adding the customer screen to enhance the header for Enjoy PO

Dear Expert's,
My requirement is to add a new tab on Header for Enjoy PO by enhancing ME21N/ME22N and ME23N.
I have already implemented the BADI's ME_GUI_PO_CUST and ME_PROCESS_PO_CUST.
Actions Taken:
I have created a custom Function group and subscreen '9000'.
I have created a 'Z' structure as per the screen layout on the Header Tab
I have appended the custom fields in EKKO custom include CI_EKKO.
Reactions:
1. I am able to successfully display the screen on additional tab at header level.
2. The Display & Change is working perfectly for screen '9000' on ME21N/ME22N and ME23N header.
Problem:
I am unable to read the 'Z' fields from EKKO to populate the TAB Screen '9000' and neither able to save the 'Z' fields from '9000' TAb screen for header data.
I am not using any EXIT for this and have to use only BADI for this solution. Please help me to implement this solution using BADI only.
Also i have tried implementaing the transport Data object -> Model + Model -> Dynpro + Dynpro -> Model + Model -> Data object methods, but these methods are not getting triggered.
Please let me know if i can use EVENT_PBO & EVENT_PAI if yes , than how to trigger these events and where..?

You want to activate user exit MM06E005. Note that this is a consulting
note and not a correction of the user exit.
Solution
You can use the sample source code attached here to recognize the basic
functions of the exit. This example is, however, only one of many options

o Supply of an additional field on header level

Where to put init code for static variables? (for UIImages)

I know that static variables are sorta a global, is that how UIImage is usually stored? What is the convention to declare UIImage variables that exists throughout the lifetime of the app? Where is a good place to init it if I choose to use static variables?

OK, in that case do something like this:

Code like the above makes the 'classImage' variable work like a typical class variable. It is available to all instances of MyClass but is not visible to other classes. Like a 'private static' class variable in Java. Nothing goes in the header for this variable.
The 'initialize' method is called once the first time anything ever references MyClass. Kind of like a static initializer in Java. Notice the use of '+' instead of '-' for the method. The '+' makes it a class method instead of an instance method.

What would cause variable header not to refresh?

I've looked over all the details. Can't figure it out.
I'm attaching screen shots so you can see I've defined and inserted everything properly.
The header responds to the Part One written in the correct paragraph style and it responds to Part Two, ditto, but Part Three, which is exactly the same and One and Two doesn't "take." I've applied my master to ALL PAGES

Willi, it's not just the language problem, it's the "my inexperience" problem that makes it hard for me to understand you.
I'm VERY inexperienced. I'm just trying to create a good looking PDF to send to Amazon, and unfortunately I have a deadline for this, so I'm working fast and for too many hours and not efficiently.
The margins/border problem is not a problem for me since test pdfs look just fine.
It may be creating problems with the flow of the text though that I'm not aware of.
However, At this point, setting up a new layout is out of the question. I've already done that three times. I must get this to a proof-reader by Feb. 7
Just tell me one thing -- if you can, VERY SIMPLY. How do I link the PART THREE to the story so that it will show up in the variable header?
Otherewise, I'll just have to create a new master to apply to part three with a fixed header instead of a variable.

Variable subsitution for target file names

Hi All,
I am using variable subsitution for dynamic file names. I am using the multimapping for multiple files in the target.So i coluld not able to use the dynamic configuration for file names. Now i want to replace all the spaces in the filename to underscore.
For example
My payload filed value "file name in the target file".
Now my filename "file_name_in_the_target_file".
How to achieve this using Variable subsitution.

Print Layout Designer - Different Variable No for Different Currencies

Hi Experts,
I will need your support once again.I just noticed that the Withholding tax field on the Invoice print layout displays only when the transaction is in Local currency,while trying to trouble shoot this issue, I discovered that the Variable Number for the withholding Tax field for transactions in Local currency differ from that of USD transactions.
I need this field to display irrespective of the currency, how can I achieve this? Can I get a comon variable number for that field ?
Any info will be highly appreciated.

Hi Chike,
The answer is no. You can not change them because they hold different values. If you want to use one PLD to print both LC and FC, you have to use many formula fields to do so.

Excel o/p in Reports 9i-additional report header for every row

Dear All,
Is there any way to generate an Excel file output from OracleReports9i.Actually I have tried the simple report.
I am able to create a delimited output.But the prob is it contains an additional report header for every row of the report and this is very strange.Its coming like that

How can I set the Reminders app so that it does not shown my AppleID password as the header for my lists on my desktop or laptop screen?!?

My Reminders app which I sync with iPad shows my AppleID password as a heading for my lists when I have it open on my screen of my laptop or desktop. The iPad does not reveal the password the same way. Desktop is not so worrisome, but I don't understand why this would happen and is especially weird if I have the app open in public on my laptop. Is this a default? What do I do to make sure the list does not show by password? I understand that sharing the Reminders via the iCloud may cause a need to show what Reminder lists are being shared between a device and laptop, but why not a user name instead of the PASSWORD!!!?

Where in the Reminder's window are you seeing the password. Here's what my Reminder's window looks like?
