Variable table in SQL select

Hello,
In various SQL versions it is possible to define a variable that will hold the name of the table and then use that variable in the FROM clause instead the actual table name.
something like this:
var_table(4) type c.
var_table  = 'tab1'
select * from &var_table&... etc
var_table = 'tab2'
select * from &var_table&... etc
It is possible something like this in ABAP SQL?
Thank you.

Hi,
Check the foll code:
PARAMETERS: P_TABLE LIKE DD03L-TABNAME.
DATA: XTABLE TYPE REF TO DATA.
FIELD-SYMBOLS: <FS_TABLE>  TYPE TABLE,
               <WA_TABLE> TYPE ANY.
CREATE DATA XTABLE type TABLE OF (p_table).
assign xtable->* to <fs_table>.
SELECT * FROM (P_TABLE) INTO TABLE <fs_table> ORDER BY PRIMARY KEY.
loop at <fs_table> ASSIGNING <wa_table>.
ENDLOOP.
Thanks & Regards,

  • How user variable table names in select statement

    Dear all,
    I have three table gp1,gp2,g3. i want user variable table in sql query
    for example at oracle forms have a list table showing table names gp1,gp2,gp3
    at form i want user this query
    select gpno from :table where gpno=120;
    how i can specify table name Dynamicly in select query
    Thanks

    Forms_DDL is a one-way street: You can only pass DDL commands TO the database; you cannot get data back using Forms_DDL.
    Exec_SQL is the Forms package that enables dynamic sql within a form. But to retrieve data, you have to make a Exec_SQL call for every column in every row. So it is not a good thing to use, either.
    The ref cursor method should work. You could also retrieve the data into a record group using populate_group_with_query -- it also enables dynamic data retrieval.
    But if you already know you have three distinct tables and you know their names, I would keep it simple and just write three sql select statements.

  • How to use variables in an sql select statement.

    Hi, I have seen examples using the update, but nothing using a select statement.
    I have four variables I am getting from drop down menus in my JSP I set the user selected items to strings.
    How would I create the select statement like this:
    .String XName = request.getParameter("UserInputX");
    rsInResult = stmtInResult.executeQuery("SELECT ColumxX FROM TableZ WHERE ColumnX = XName")Obviously it tries to read "XName" as a column and of course can't find it, how would I set it up to have it see the Value of XName and not the literal XName.

    read this:
    rsInResult = stmtInResult.executeQuery("SELECT ColumxX FROM TableZ WHERE ColumnX = '"+XName+"')
    {code}
    better way is PreparedStatement:
    {code}
         // example code to change password to an user in the USERS table
         String newPWD = "my password";
         String user = "luxjava";
         PreparedStatement prepStat;
         String updatePWD = "UPDATE LOGISTIC.USERS "+
                                  "SET logistic.users.password = ? "+
                                  "WHERE logistic.users.username = ?";
         prepStat = ql.conDb.prepareStatement(updatePWD);
         prepStat.setString(1, newPwd);
         prepStat.setString(2, user);
         int zeroNotFound = prepStat.executeUpdate();
         if (zeroNotFound==0)
              ql.conDb.rollback();
              prepStat.close();
         else
              ql.conDb.commit();
              prepStat.close();

  • Variable Table

    Hi
    Using Apex 3.2
    I have a cascading select box problem I hope you can help with:
    The first select box dynamically displays a list of Oracle Views, constructed based on a specific pattern and strips out the sever name as the display value and holds the View Name as the return value. This works fine.
    The second select box is supposed to return a list of distinct owners from the "owner" column in this view (same column for display and return values). This does not work!!
    The cascade is supposed to work by reading the view name from select box 1 and using this in the "From" clause to specify the view to run the select from.
    If I hard code a View name from the first select box into the second process it works ok.
    So 2 questions:
    1) Is it possible to pass a variable table name eg "select * from :var_name", If it is possible how can I fix this?
    2) Is there an alternative way to select from different tables/views based on user selection?
    Thanks in anticipation

    Hi Darren,
    What tables/views are you using to get the data for the lists?
    Have you tried ALL_VIEWS? This gives you all of the view names and their owners.
    I don't think that you can directly use PL/SQL type statements for a select list - but you can use Ajax to get the information and that does use PL/SQL and accepts variables.
    However, your SQL statement - "SELECT * FROM :var_name" - implies that you want to generate a report from the selected view? If so, that can be done using a PL/SQL region of type: SQL Query (PL/SQL function body returning a SQL query). The source for that would be something like:
    DECLARE
    vSQL VARCHAR2(100);
    BEGIN
    vSQL := "SELECT * FROM " || :var_name;
    RETURN vSQL;
    END;and make sure that you use the "Use Generic Column Names (parse query at runtime only)" option underneath that so that column names are handled correctly.

  • Create table bulk_load as select ename from emp where 1=2

    The Above Query will create a new table using the strucure of old but there will be no data..
    Kindly explain me what is meant by "where 1=2"?
    Is it referring the table or column or for just testing the query??

    Is not a rule that you always must use 1=2... look this example:
    sql >> create table t as
    2 select * from all_objects;
    Table created.
    sql >> select count(*) from t;
    COUNT(*)
    43975
    sql >> create table ttt as
    2 select * from t where rownum=0;
    Table created.
    sql >> create table tt as
    2 select * from t where 9=4;
    Table created.

  • How to use bind variable value for table name in select statement.

    I am having tough time to use value of bind variable for table name in select statement. I tried &p37_table_name. ,
    :p37_table_name or v('p37_table_name) but none worked.
    Following is the sql for interactive report:
    select * from v('p37_table_name') where key_loc = :P37_KEY_LOC and
    to_char(inspection_dte,'mm/dd/yyyy') = :P37_INSP_DT AND :p37_column_name is not null ;
    I am setting value of p37_table_name in previous page which is atm_state_day_insp.
    Following is error msg:
    "Query cannot be parsed, please check the syntax of your query. (ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended) "
    Any help would be higly appreciated.
    Raj

    Interestingly enough I always had the same impression that you had to use a function to do this but found out from someone else that all you need to do is change the radio button from Use Query-Specific Column Names and Validate Query to Use Generic Column Names (parse query at runtime only). Apex will substitute your bind variable for you at run-time (something you can't normally do in pl/sql without using dynamic sql)

  • SQL Task Expression: SQL Command using variable tables

    Hello,
    I've got a question I hope someone could help me out with. I'm working on a SSIS project that basically synchronises logins of a Source and Destination server that are part of an AlwaysOn Cluster.
    The idea is as followed: On the source server there are variable tables created named Logins_<SourceServerName>_To_<DestinationServerName> for example. This one is filled with all the login information from that server, then on the Destination
    server the same table is created and the data is transfered. The Source and Destination server names are project variables.
    Once all data is copied I use a set of code from the dba_CopyLogins script I got from SQLSoldier (http://www.sqlsoldier.com/wp/sqlserver/transferring-logins-to-a-database-mirror) to create the missing logins on the Destination server.
    What I've found is that I can't use expressions to handle the code, at least I haven't found a way yet, expression evaluation will give an error on (for example) the following code:
    Begin
    Set @SQL = 'Create Login ' + quotename(@LoginName)
    If @Type In ('U', 'G')
    Begin
    Set @SQL = @SQL + ' From Windows;'
    End
    Else
    Begin
    Set @PasswordHashString = '0x' +
    Cast('' As XML).value('xs:hexBinary(sql:variable("@PasswordHash"))', 'nvarchar(300)');
    Set @SQL = @SQL + ' With Password = ' + @PasswordHashString + ' HASHED, ';
    Set @SIDString = '0x' +
    Cast('' As XML).value('xs:hexBinary(sql:variable("@SID"))', 'nvarchar(100)');
    Set @SQL = @SQL + 'SID = ' + @SIDString + ';';
    End
    I've tried various things to get this to work as an expression, however I seem to continue to get the error:
    The expression might contain an invalid token, an incomplete token, or an invalid element. It might not be well-formed, or might be missing part of a required element such as a parenthesis.
    So the next thing I tried was just using the script as Direct input with Parameter Mapping on the tables but I've got the error:
    Must declare the table variable "@P1".
    All the way up to @P12. Since we're talking about 12 variables that are in the script in total. But they are table variables and apparently Parameter mapping is not possible on table variables or am I wrong here? Pieces of code for example are:
    Set @MaxID = (Select Max(LoginID) From ?)
    Set @CurrID = (Select Min(LoginID) From ?)
    I hope there's someone who could help me out or at least can give me a direction to look into.
    Yes we could use the script provided, but we don't want to work with LinkedServers, besides I'd have to make local jobs on the servers instead of controlling it all from 1 centralised server.
    Thank for looking at the topic and I hope you have a clue about what to do...
    Regards,
    Danny

    The code you posted is a t-sql code. If you want to store it inside ssis variable syntax is different. As per what you say what might be best would be to warp above code inside a procedure and then call it from SSIS execute sql task after passing values
    through SSIS variable
    also for
    Set @MaxID = (Select Max(LoginID) From ?)
    etc
    create variable in SSIS, set EvaluateAsExpression true and set expression as
    "Select Max(LoginID) AS MaxID From " + @[User::TableName]
    Where TableName is SSIS variable through which you pass the table name. Then use above statement inside execute sql task and set resultset option as single row and map resultset to SSIS variable (say @[User::MaxID]) to get return value
    similarly for other statements

  • Need help for SQL SELECT query to fetch XML records from Oracle tables having CLOB field

    Hello,
    I have a scenario wherein i need to fetch records from several oracle tables having CLOB fields(which is holding XML) and then merge them logically to form a hierarchy XML. All these tables are related with PK-FK relationship. This XML hierarchy is having 'OP' as top-most root node and ‘DE’ as it’s bottom-most node with One-To-Many relationship. Hence, Each OP can have multiple GM, Each GM can have multiple DM and so on.
    Table structures are mentioned below:
    OP:
    Name                             Null                    Type
    OP_NBR                    NOT NULL      NUMBER(4)    (Primary Key)
    OP_DESC                                        VARCHAR2(50)
    OP_PAYLOD_XML                           CLOB
    GM:
    Name                          Null                   Type
    GM_NBR                  NOT NULL       NUMBER(4)    (Primary Key)
    GM_DESC                                       VARCHAR2(40)
    OP_NBR               NOT NULL          NUMBER(4)    (Foreign Key)
    GM_PAYLOD_XML                          CLOB
    DM:
    Name                          Null                    Type
    DM_NBR                  NOT NULL         NUMBER(4)    (Primary Key)
    DM_DESC                                         VARCHAR2(40)
    GM_NBR                  NOT NULL         NUMBER(4)    (Foreign Key)
    DM_PAYLOD_XML                            CLOB
    DE:
    Name                          Null                    Type
    DE_NBR                     NOT NULL           NUMBER(4)    (Primary Key)
    DE_DESC                   NOT NULL           VARCHAR2(40)
    DM_NBR                    NOT NULL           NUMBER(4)    (Foreign Key)
    DE_PAYLOD_XML                                CLOB

    i.gm_nbr||'||'||i.gm_desc||'||'||i.gm_paylod_xml AS gm_paylod_xml,
    h.dm_nbr||'||'||h.dm_desc||'||'||h.dm_paylod_xml AS dm_paylod_xml,

    h.dm_nbr = g.dm_nbr(+) and
    i.gm_nbr = h.gm_nbr(+) and
    j.op_nbr = i.op_nbr(+)
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    I am using above SQL select statement for fetching the XML records and this gives me all related xmls for each entity in a single record(OP, GM, DM. DE). Output of this SQL query is as below:
    Current O/P:
    <resultSet>
         <Record1>
              <OP_PAYLOD_XML1>
              <GM_PAYLOD_XML1>
              <DM_PAYLOD_XML1>
              <DE_PAYLOD_XML1>
         </Record1>
         <Record2>
              <OP_PAYLOD_XML2>
              <GM_PAYLOD_XML2>
              <DM_PAYLOD_XML2>
              <DE_PAYLOD_XML2>
         </Record2>
         <RecordN>
              <OP_PAYLOD_XMLN>

              <DM_PAYLOD_XMLN>
              <DE_PAYLOD_XMLN>
         </RecordN>
    </resultSet>
    Now i want to change my SQL query so that i get following output structure:
    <resultSet>
         <Record>
              <OP_PAYLOD_XML1>
              <GM_PAYLOD_XML1>

              <DM_PAYLOD_XML1>

              <DM_PAYLOD_XMLN>
              <DE_PAYLOD_XML1>
              <DE_PAYLOD_XML2> .......
              <DE_PAYLOD_XMLN>
         </Record>
         <Record>
              <OP_PAYLOD_XML2>
              <GM_PAYLOD_XML1'>
              <GM_PAYLOD_XML2'> .......
              <GM_PAYLOD_XMLN'>
              <DM_PAYLOD_XML1'>

    <resultSet>
    Appreciate your help in this regard!

    Hi,
    A few questions :
    How's your first query supposed to give you an XML output like you show ?
    Is there something you're not telling us?
    What's the content of, for example, <OP_PAYLOD_XML1> ?
    I don't think it's a good idea to embed the node level in the tag name, it would make much sense to expose that as an attribute.
    What's the db version BTW?

  • Picking the right values from tables - SQL (select statement)

    Hi everyone,
    I'm facing the litlle(?) problem in Oracle environment.
    Let me explain:
    I have two tables.
    TABLE 1
    Id1 | Val1 | Id2 | Val2
    A | 44 | B | 36
    B | 36 | A | 44
    TABLE 2
    Id | Name
    A | New York
    B | Seattle
    I need to get from those tables, using SQL statement, result like this:
    Id1 | Val1 | Name1 | Id2 | Val2 | Name2
    A | 44 | New York | B | 36 | Seattle
    NOTE !! Very important!! If in table 1 we have crossed the same values in fields IdX and ValX in two rows (like in example)- just one of them should be presented as a result.
    I'm afraid it's a bit too complex. You, guys are my last hope.
    Looking forward for any solutions.
    Thanks in advance!

  • How do I use bind variables for the SQL statements having IN clause

    SELECT id, name FROM t
    WHERE id in (10,20,30)
    As the IN list will have 'n' number of values, I am not able to specify fixed number of bind
    variables like
    SELECT id, name FROM t
    WHERE id in (?,?,?....)

  • Using System Variables in a SQL Query

    Hi!
    I´m new to Oracle and SQL so i don´t know very much about it.
    There is miy Problem:
    Is there a way to Use the System Variable %USERNAME% in an SQL Query?
    I tried .... where table.shorttag = '%USERNAME%' ;
    but this doesnt work.
    Is Oracle able to handle Systemvariables? Or is there another way to use the current Windows User in an SQL Query.
    It is very Important to use the current Windows user and not the Oracle user.
    Thank you,
    Mfg

    Are you looking for something like this ?
    SQL> SELECT sys_context('USERENV', 'OS_USER') FROM dual;
    SYS_CONTEXT('USERENV','OS_USER
    SAUBBANE\IBM
    SQL> SELECT sys_context('USERENV', 'TERMINAL') FROM dual;
    SYS_CONTEXT('USERENV','TERMINA
    SAUBBANEAlso you can look at the dbms_application_info package.

  • How to pass a variable for a SQL query in OLEDB source?

    Hi All,
    I am new to SSIS and working on it past few days. Can anyone please help me getting through a scenario where I need to pass a variable in the SQL statement in OLEDB source connection. Please find below for the details.
    eg:
    1) I have a SQL table with the columns SerialNumber, Name, IsValid, FileName with multiple rows.
    2) I have the file Name in a variable called Variable1.
    3) I want to read the data from my SQL table filtering based on the FileName (Variable1) within a data flow task and pull that data to the destination table.
    Question: In the data flow task, added source and destination DB connection with a script component in between to perform my validations. When trying to retrieve the data from source using the variable (i.e. SQL Query with variable), I am not able to add
    the query as the SQL statement box is disabled. How to filter the data based on the variable in the source DB ?
    Any help/suggestions would be of great help.
    Thanks,
    Sri

    Just to add with Vaibhav comment .
    SQL Command  : SQL query either with SQL variable or any condition  or simple Sql statement
    Like ;
    Select * from dimcustomer
    SQL Command using Varible :
    Sometimes we design our dynamic query in variable and directly use that variable name in oledb source.
    If you Sql query needs a condition based on SSIS variable .
    you can find a Example here :
    http://www.toadworld.com/platforms/sql-server/b/weblog/archive/2013/01/17/ssis-replace-dynamic-sql-with-variables.aspx
    http://www.select-sql.com/mssql/how-to-use-a-variable-inside-sql-in-ssis-data-flow-tasks.html
    Thanks
