Variable type / Parameter

I need to run in parallel 4 packages (and interfaces) in order to load 4 separate tables driven by a variable so a main package will call those 4 (sub) packages.
1) Should I set up the variable as "Not persistent"? I just want to make sure it won't interfere from an interface to another (they will run in parallel) and I don't want to keep defining extra variables.
2) What needs to be done to be able to pass the value to the variable (from the command prompt) in certain situation?

Hi,
suppose that your variable is called MYVAR and your scenario FATHER, SON1, SON2, SON3, SON4.
You need in this order
Add a declare step of MYVAR in FATHER
Add an evaluate step/assign step of MYVAR in FATHER
Add a declare step of MYVAR in each SON.
Compile your SON packege, paying attention to mark as startup MYVAR
Make your 4 calls to scenario, putting under "Additional Variable" tab MYVAR into Variable and #MYPROJ.MYVAR as value.
Let me know

  • Clear definition+examples- type variable, type parameter and type argument

    I am trying to fully understand the terms like type variable, type parameter and type argument as they apply to generics. Can anyone please give the exact definition and example of each of these terms. Also how these terms relate to the classes/interfaces in language model APIs of Java 6.

  • Variable substitution parameter

    Hi All,
    I have a scenario where in i am creating a flat file . File name is being taken from the payload using variable substitution parameter . But while wrting to a file , i need to make sure that File name doesnt get written in the file .
    Is there anyway i can avoid filename getting written into the file.

    Hi,
    You can Use ASMA Properties of file adapter .
    Step 1. Create UDF with following code.
    try
    DynamicConfiguration conf = (DynamicConfiguration) container.getTransformationParameters().get(StreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION);
    DynamicConfigurationKey key = DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/File","FileName");
    String MyFileName =  "_ASMA.txt";
    conf.put(key, MyFileName);
    return MyFileName ;
    catch(Exception e)
    String exception = e.toString();
    return exception;
    this is an example : Here i have Hard coded the File Name in MyFileName String.
    If You Want file name from Target Message Type , Create your UDF as Parameterized UDF, and Pass Filename as argument to that Parameter
    Step 2:
    Map This Parameterised UDF Function to Root Node, so that it will return value to root node.
    Step 3:
    On Receiver adapter .
    Tick the Set Adapter Specific Message Attribute on advanced Tab.
    Step 4:
    Tick File Name.
    Rest is same....
    I hope this will help you ...

  • Enable "dynamic date calculation" variable type

    When saving reporting date/period in a report variant, we may use "dynamic date calculation" to specific date as selection parameter.  But the "Dynamic date calculation" is not visible in some ABAP reports - only "Table Variable from TVARVC"  type is available for selection.
    For those reports that are missing that variable type, how can we enable the "Dynamic date calculation" variable type to be visible?

    Hi Paco:
    Yes, they are z-reports, both have the same almost everything, created by the same ABAPer, for the same application SD, just grouping the data differently.
    It seems a screen (#100?) is missing,  In the old version, it's screen 100 where to activate the "D" and "B" variable types.  Now it goes to screen 281.

  • Using a type parameter at the 'wrong' time?

    I tried to make a subclass of SwingWorker using...
    private class ProcessSAV<Void, String> extends SwingWorker {...}...and in the doInBackground() method, I declared and initialized a local variable...
    String filename = "blahblahblah";Somehow, I manage to get an incompatible types compile-time error at this line of code.
    found: java.lang.String
    required: String
    I know that the second type parameter is used to the specify the object type in publish() as well as the List type in process(). When I declare a String as the local variable in this instance, it seems to be a unique type related the second type argument and won't accept anything that returns a java.lang.String.
    Why is it doing this? And is there any way to get around it?

    You created two type parameters having the names of classes, thus the String you refer to actually is a type parameter, not the String class.
    You most probably wanted to do the following:private class ProcessSAV extends SwingWorker<Void, String> {...}

  • Type parameter instances.

    Hi, thanks for reading.
    I'm trying to implement a parametrized class which has an (obviously) parametrized array.
    The code:
    public class PQ<T> {
        protected T[] pq;
        protected Comparator<T> comparator;
        protected int N;That's OK but I can't create instances of pq.
    The error "Type parameter 'T' cannot be instantatied directly".
    What can I do? I need to work with that array instance to add, remove items, etc!
    Edited by: Akcents on Sep 29, 2008 7:04 PM

    Ugly? Yeah, arrays and generics don't go very nicely together. Here's my take at it (removed confusing N arg from constructor):
    public class AbstractPQ<T> {
        private Comparator<T> comparator;
        protected T[] pq;
        protected int N;
        protected AbstractPQ(Comparator<T> comparator) {
            pq = (T[]) new Object[0];
            this.comparator = comparator;
        }getMax now doesn't need casts anymore.
    If you don't like the warning generated for the unchecked cast to T[] in the constructor, refactor array creation into a method (or variable declaration) and use a SuppressWarnings-annotation:
    public class AbstractPQ<T> {
        private Comparator<T> comparator;
        protected T[] pq;
        protected int N;
        protected AbstractPQ(Comparator<T> comparator) {
            pq = createArray(0);
            this.comparator = comparator;
        @SuppressWarnings("unchecked")
        private T[] createArray(int length) {
           return (T[]) new Object[length];
        }Edited by: nygaard on Sep 29, 2008 10:05 PM

  • A question about a method with generic bounded type parameter

    Hello everybody,
    Sorry, if I ask a question which seems basic, but
    I'm new to generic types. My problem is about a method
    with a bounded type parameter. Consider the following
    situation:
    abstract class A{     }
    class B extends A{     }
    abstract class C
         public abstract <T extends A>  T  someMethod();
    public class Test extends C
         public <T extends A>  T  someMethod()
              return new B();
    }What I want to do inside the method someMethod in the class Test, is to
    return an instance of the class B.
    Normally, I'm supposed to be able to do that, because an instance of
    B is also an instance of A (because B extends A).
    However I cannot compile this program, and here is the error message:
    Test.java:16: incompatible types
    found   : B
    required: T
                    return new B();
                           ^
    1 errorany idea?
    many thanks,

    Hello again,
    First of all, thank you very much for all the answers. After I posted the comment, I worked on the program
    and I understood that in fact, as spoon_ says the only returned value can be null.
    I'm agree that I asked you a very strange (and a bit stupid) question. Actually, during recent months,
    I have been working with cryptography API Core in Java. I understood that there are classes and
    interfaces for defining keys and key factories specification, such as KeySpec (interface) and
    KeyFactorySpi (abstract class). I wanted to have some experience with these classes in order to
    understand them better. So I created a class implementing the interface KeySpec, following by a
    corresponding Key subclass (with some XOR algorithm that I defined myself) and everything was
    compiled (JDK 1.6) and worked perfectly. Except that, when I wanted to implement a factory spi
    for my classes, I saw for the first time this strange method header:
    protected abstract <T extends KeySpec> T engineGetKeySpec
    (Key key, Class<T> keySpec) throws InvalidKeySpecExceptionThat's why yesterday, I gave you a similar example with the classes A, B, ...
    in order to not to open a complicated security discussion but just to explain the ambiguous
    part for me, that is, the use of T generic parameter.
    The abstract class KeyFactorySpi was defined by Sun Microsystem, in order to give to security
    providers, the possibility to implement cryptography services and algorithms according to a given
    RFC (or whatever technical document). The methods in this class are invoked inside the
    KeyFactory class (If you have installed the JDK sources provided by Sun, You can
    verify this, by looking the source code of the KeyFactory class.) So here the T parameter is a
    key specification, that is, a class that implements the interface KeySpec and this class is often
    defined by the provider and not Sun.
    stefan.schulz wrote:
    >
    If you define the method to return some bound T that extends A, you cannot
    return a B, because T would be declared externally at invocation time.
    The definition of T as is does not make sense at all.>
    He is absolutely right about that, but the problem is, as I said, here we are
    talking about the implementation and not the invocation. The implementation is done
    by the provider whereas the invocation is done by Sun in the class KeyFactory.
    So there are completely separated.
    Therefore I wonder, how a provider can finally impelment this method??
    Besides, dannyyates wrote
    >
    Find whoever wrote the signature and shoot them. Then rewrite their code.
    Actually, before you shoot them, ask them what they were trying to achieve that
    is different from my first suggestion!
    >
    As I said, I didn't choose this method header and I'm completely agree
    with your suggestion, the following method header will do the job very well
    protected abstract KeySpec engineGetKeySpec (Key key, KeySpec key_spec)
    throws InvalidKeySpecException and personally I don't see any interest in using a generic bounded parameter T
    in this method header definition.
    Once agin, thanks a lot for the answers.

  • Variable type Hierarchy, how to get the value from another similar variable

    Hi.
    We have created a variable, type hierarchy (using ORGEH hierarchy in HR based on 0ORGUNIT). Let's call this VAR1. We want to fill this with an User Exit, beacuse we want VAR1 to have the value from another variable, VAR2, which is also type hierarchy (and based on the same characteristic).
    However, when we program this user exit and use the VAR1 afterwards, it just behaves as if we have a single characteristic value and not a node value. As a result, we just get posts which do have the 'parent itself' as characteristic value, and none of the subnodes...  Any hints as to what we can do in our User exit to get the value passed over from VAR2 to VAR1 as a node value? Is there any spesific syntax to be used here that we are missing? ( The VAR1 and VAR2 are both defined as hierarchy variables, we have double checked...).

    Hi,
    are you on BI7.0? There you can create variables type replacement path and get the value out from a different variable without any coding.
    regards

    1 errorApparently, the type parameter E of the outer class Foo shadows the inner class declaration E. An alternative way to check is to create a new E() in this method, which results in an error message about using a type parameter where a type is expected.
    Of course this code is sick, but I would like to know where this is defined in the JLS3, since I cannot find out in which way this shadowing works. What I've found until now:
    Page 179:
    "The scope of a class' type parameter is the entire declaration of the class."
    Page 190:
    "The scope of a declaration of a member m declared in or inherited by a class type C is the entire body of C, ... "
    Page 132:
    "If a type name consists of a single Identifier, then the identifier must occur in the scope of exactly one visible declaration of type with this name, or a compile time error occurs."
    Section 6.3.1 (Shadowing declarations) specifies the shadowing rules, but does not mention type parameters.
    Any help is appreciated.

    The current behaviour in eclilpse seems to be the one we get if the bug in javac is fixed as described.
    This code compiles
    public class Shadow1 {

    Type mismatch: cannot convert from Shadow1.Foo<E>.E to Shadow1.Foo<Shadow1.Foo<E>.E>. E

  • How to define new variable types in BPEL?

    Is there a way to define a new variable type directly in BPEL, without modifying any of the WSDL files used by Partnerlinks?
    Or to import an XSD with variable definitions?

    It depends on what you want to use the variable for. You may not need to do it yourself. Let's assume you have a main wsdl for your service that you can't change but it has the inputs and outputs already defined.
    In the middle you want to grab the input and shove it into a database table. You can create a new partner link. Rright click in the swim lanes on the BPEL page and pick the little database icon. Go through the steps to link to the db via an insert or package. You will need a db connection to do this.
    jdeveloper will create the partner link wsdl and schema for you to match the table or the ins/outs of the package/procedure automatically.
    Then drag an invoke onto the page and pull the arrow to your new partner link. Use the magic wand on the invoke screen to create the input/output variables.
    Then you can use a transformation or assign/copy to pull the data from the input message variable of the main wsdl into the input variable of your database wsdl.
    Or your situation may not be that complicated...if you click the little (X) on the edge of the box on the BPEL screen you can go through a picking process.

    Louis,
    If I'm not mistaken, record types are not allowed. However, you can use object types instead. However, they must be database types. In other words, something like:
    create or replace type ROW_ABC as object (
    col1 varchar2(16),
    col2 varchar2(16),
    col3 varchar2(16 )
    create or replace type MATRIX_ABC as table of ROW_ABC
    /Then you can use the "ARRAY" and "STRUCT" (SQL) types in your java code. If I remember correctly, I recently answered a similar question either in this forum, or at JavaRanch -- but I'm too lazy to look for it now. Do a search for the terms "ARRAY" and "STRUCT".
    For your information, there are also code samples of how to do this on the OTN Web site.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.
