Version of Browser/JVM

What is the minimum version of Browser (Netscape/IE) to use with the following products?
Portal 3.0.9.8
ifs 1.1
Discoverer 4.1.40

Apparently the problem seems to be the version of JRE/JVM that the Browser seems to be using (which in this case is Java 1.1.5 which incidentally does not support swings) a previous version of the JVM.That is exactly right. You need to go to the Java Plug-in page which is here: http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/ Read it and then go to the HTML Plug-in Convertor page.
What you need to do is to add to your applet tag some additional attributes that tells the browser that if it's not running Java 1.3 (or 1.4 or whatever) then go download the Java Plugin for that version. This only happens once per user. Once they have that plugin installed they never have to do it again and all future applets that are properly tagged will use this plugin. The new tags are automatically added for you by the HTML convertor program.

First, as a matter of etiquette, typing ALL CAPS on-line generally indicates that you are yelling at someone. Please use upper and lower case when posting. '''''Thanks'''''
Your User-agent string indicates that you have the latest version, Firefox 4.0.1 installed; to see your User-agent string reported when you posted your question, click on "More system details..." to the right of your original post, scroll to the bottom of that display it shows:<br /><br />

    A little information about anti-virus/anti-spyware.
First rule in using anti-virus/anti-spyware applications/programs: Never have more than one in active/real-time/on-access state checking everything as your are on-line. One can interfere with the other and the result can be less rather than more protection. Check your settings in Spybot and AVG and be sure that only one is set up for active/real-time/on-access scanning. If you have questions about how to check, go to the forums for Spybot and AVG and ask for assistance.
Second rule. No single anti-virus/anti-spyware application is 100% correct, 100% of the time. Some virus-signatures can result in "false positives". However, using Google I found that Spybot and McAfee both added "PBHotbar.SearchAssistant" to their '''''<u>adware</u>''''' definitions on March 9, 2011. (See: https://computersavvy.wordpress.com/2011/03/09/new-spybot-%E2%80%93-search-destroy-definition-update-available-2011-03-09/ and http://www.nutnworks.com/forums/threads/33947-Re-McAfee-Updates ) There may be other firms that added a malware/virus definition for "PBHotbar.SearchAssistant" under another name. '''''<u>Adware</u>''''' is designed to track your on-line activities, in this case your search activity, for the purpose of delivery advertising on pages that you visit. Somewhat benign, but do you want someone silently tracking your internet activity? Your decision as to whether to keep that Add-on.

That file might have moved to a different location on the server. I think you'll need to check with RefWorks support or your local IT department on why the install page links do not work.

  • Sax XML Parser? URLDecoder.decode bad in applet? Explorer Browser jvm?

Ok, here it goes folks, I have a serious problem with Explorers jvm, I'm developing using jdk 1.3.1 to write swing applets, in anyevent little functions that I use will not work with Explorers Browser, for example, the Explorer JVM understands the Vector addElement function, but not the Vector add function? Also, It doesn't recognize the HashMap class? Ok, is there anyway to control the JVM used with Explorer? Ok, but here goes my real question?
I am writing an applet/servlet that interfaces with an oracle database. The data is returned in the form of xml. We are using the Sax XML parser interface. The parser code previously in the servlet(server side) and worked fine, but I've now moved the parsing code to the applet side, however, it seems to not want to work on the applet side. It simply hangs? I think it's a jvm issue, I've been getting many hangs with seemingly standard classes and methods, such as URLDecoder.decode(). Anyone else run into this problem using the Sax XML Parser, I have no idea what classes in the SAX Parser could be giving us a problems, or if that is even my issue. Anyone else using SAX XML parsing in an applet with Explorer 5.5. or 5.0, please let me know, if you've had issues?
Sorry, to be so long winded, and not explaining the problem very well.

    First, get Sun's Java Plug-in from http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/index-1.4.html
and read up on how to make your browser use it instead.

  • Most recent version of browser??

I go to apple web site for help with iTunes and iTunes store. In navigating the help on the website I am informed that I cannot procede without using the most recent version of my browser, Internet Explorer. I am thinking that I do have the most recent version of IE! The version of IE I have is 11.0.9600.16428   is there a newer version I am not aware of?

hello spitcher, other users with this problem all had an embedded intel hd3000 graphics card with an old driver present. in case this also applies to you, here would be a link to update the driver, which in turn should also address the black firefox problem: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=23764 (for win7 64 bit)
in case this doesn't solve the issue or does not apply to your system, start firefox into safemode '''by pressing the shift key while the application is launching''' & disable hardware acceleration in the firefox ''menu ≡ > options > advanced > general'' (that setting will take a restart of the browser to take effect).

  • Desktop version while browsing

I want to browse a website using my mobile phone in desktop version. How can I disable the mobile version?

    Hi Iomankam,
You can install [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/mobile/addon/phony/ Phony], an extension for Firefox mobile that will let you tweak the User-Agent to match that of Desktop Firefox. What this will do is force the browser to mimic that of Desktop Firefox and sites will serve the non-mobile content to the browser.

    Hi Bee:
    This is for 1Password 2 Version 2.12.1 (build 7671), not for 1Password 3 Version 3.2.1.
(for those who have not upgraded yet).
I don't know if agile will ever offer a Safari 5.0 fix for 2.12.1 or not.
There are a lot of folks like me who own a multiple (family) license for 1Password Version 2.
Some of the older machines will never see Snow Leopard and aside from Safari 5, all current
browsers are still supported by 1Password 2.
I would probably upgrade, but truly, in my case, 1Password 3 has no new features that I really
want. I don't run Safari in 64 bit mode. It doesn't run any faster or better that I can tell (in 64 bit
mode), and it breaks the 32 bit plugins in 64 bit mode. Besides, Safari is tolerable (sometimes),
but it sure isn't my favorite Browser.
I am a basic person too, fancy prancy stuff just irritates me, I like 1Password 2's interface a lot
better. They should offer different skins for version 3, make everyone happy.
If Agile would support even one of my 2 favorite Browsers (Seamonkey and Opera), I would
probably upgrade, but instead I am forced to use Safari (ho-hum) or Firefox (Yuk!).

I came across a problem also while posting a message on one of forums: Gamedev.net. I couldn't check the message window in order to type anything. Hwo can I solve these problems?

Your Firefox User Agent is telling websites that you are using Firefox 3.0. <br />

Right-click the preferences that are '''bold''', one line at a time, and select '''''Reset'''''. <br />
