Video between a Leopard user and a PPC Tiger user

Is this possible? We bought my father-in-law a web cam for Father's Day so he can see the baby when we move across the country. He's on a PPC PowerMac G5 using 10.4.11 and I have 10.5.7. Thanks!

Hi,
It depends on the camera you bought.
If it is UVC compliant (USB Video Class) and he has a USB 2.0 port to plug it into (Some keyboard are not) then the MAC OS have a Generic Driver in the OS for these cameras.
These cameras can be marked on the Box as "Vista Certified"
Other USB 1.1 cameras are likely to need Mac Drivers and a Utility for iChat called iUSBCam
Some manufacturers supply Mac drivers either on a CD or on their Web site.
So do not. The iUSBCam page has a Camera Guide page top right will links to at least two Generic Third Party Drivers that will work for some cameras.
If you managed to acquire a Firewire Webcam this should work without any need for Drivers (Or the Utility)

  • From Tiger to Leopard. And back to Tiger...

    hi =)
    i was running tiger 10.4.10.
    i upgraded to leopard quite smoothly.
    then i installed the 10.5.1 update.
    all went downhill from there on. i always verify/repair permissions + check HD before and after each installation, in addition to running the extended hardware test.
    this evening, i finally gave up on leopard, erased my HD and reinstalled everything from the DVDs that came with my macbook (bringing me back to 10.4.8), as leopard could not install due to the macbook crashing all the time during installation (thank you 10.5.1).
    i then ran my bootable clone external harddrive using superduper (thank you for backups!) to erase the HD and clone itself on the HD.
    so basically, i am back to where i was before the leopard upgrade, i.e. in 10.40.
    no data loss of any kind and all applications have updated smoothly, etc.
    question:
    considering the hassle experienced with 10.5.1 under leopard, and now that everything is running fine, should i tempt faith with the 10.4.11 update? or wait for the next one?
    i might reinstall leopard eventually, as that upgrade went smoothly. it was only the 10.5.1 that created havoc.
    thank you for your thoughts =)

    hi barry
    and thank you for the message.
    i am using a USB modem to connect to the net when in the office, as access to some websites (myspace notably) is blocked on our company network.
    these USB modems and their related software proposed here in swizerland are still only compatible up to 10.4.10.
    so i might hold off on the 10.4.11 upgrade or going back to leopard until all non-apple applications i use (USB modem + superduper mainly) are compatible.
    for superduper, i was manually updating all important files and folders on the lacie eyternal disk, so as not to lose its bootable capacity, which would have been lost by running superduer with leopard.
    worked well, but a little time consuming =)
    patience is the game sometimes.

  • Read/Write Permissions for all users and all objects in Users:Shared

    Hi:
    I am using an application called "iView" to manage my image files. When importing images from my camera through that application, it creates a folder with the current date. The root folder is "Users:Shared:Images", so that everyone using our Mac can access the files. However, the files' permissions are only read/write for the user who downloaded the files (typically me), but I want everyone to be able to edit and delete files. Of course I can change the permissions manually, but there has to be a better way. (In addition, changing the permissions manually afterwards causes Time Machine to backup the files with the modified permissions again).
    What do I have to do?
    Thanks in advance.
    Hinrich

    That is the way that permissions work. If you are the owner of a file and want others to be able to read and write it, then you have to give them the permission to do so. To automate this, you can attach a folder action to the shared folder, for example:
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #FFDDFF;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
    on adding folder items to ThisFolder after receiving AddedItems
    repeat with AnItem in AddedItems
    tell application "Finder" to set everyones privileges of AnItem to read write
    end repeat
    end adding folder items to
    </pre>

  • Leopard lisance and BootCamp on tiger

    Is having a full license to Leopard gives me the option to use he final version BooCamp in tiger?
    Thanks

    Are you sure it is expired TODAY?
    This document says, "The license to use Boot Camp Beta version 1.3, 1.4 expires when Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard is released."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303572
    Leopard is going to be released on 10/26/07. It seems to me that you have 9 more days to do what you want.

  • Difference between Professional User and Limited Professional User?

    SAP Members.
    Hi \ Salam,
    I want to know the difference between a Professional User and a Limited Professional User. Why do we create them and what are the advantages of having them?
    Your input will be highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Mohammed Ali Khan.

    Yup. It means, in Limited Professional, you can display posted documents, view reports etc. & can create/change through single transaction, e.g. FB60. It is generally provided to management/heads.
    Professional license is a fully functional license. You can use any transaction no matter if its create, change or display

  • Leopard install and reinstall.  Extremely slugglish.

    Installed Leopard ("Archive and Install." "Preserve Users and Network Settings."). Safari was running extremely slow.
    Mac Genius suggested I reinstall using:
    "Archive and Install." He said de-select "Preserve Users and Network Settings," update library afterward.
    I had roughly 25 Gigs of my 110 Gig hard drive available. I also had a folder named "Previous System" from my first Leopard installation.
    The installation said it required 13 gigs. So, after the install I was left with about 12 gigs.
    I repaired permissions. Restarted. Updated to 10.5.4. I repaired permissions. Restarted.
    The system is slower than the first install. Safari is performing like I'm on a dial-up.
    My three user accounts have to be set-up again.
    Questions:
    1) Is the old install of Leopard still in my hard drive? I assume it is otherwise reinstalling should just overwrite the previous install and I would still have 25 gigs.
    2)Now I have two previous systems folders. The first uses 11.59 gigs (but I preserved user and network settings), while the second uses 46.34 gigs (but are not preserved). Should I go back to one of these, delete, go back to Tiger?
    3) how do i get my user accounts reinstated in their previous configuration?
    Suggestions appreciated!
    My apologies if I have left any info out.
    Thanks for the help!

    Sort of. It's compressed and in the previous systems folder.
    2)Now I have two previous systems folders. The first uses 11.59 gigs (but I preserved user and network settings), while the second uses 46.34 gigs (but are not preserved). Should I go back to one of these, delete, go back to Tiger?
    Once you have done a successful archive and install, those folders have no value.
    You can delete them both after you complete migration as noted below
    3) how do i get my user accounts reinstated in their previous configuration?
    I believe when you preserved previous users and network settings, that everything was done. I am not sure you can do it again from the previous systems folder(s).
    You can most certainly delete the first (oldest one) without losing anything.
    If Tiger was on the first previous system folder, it has no value anymore anyway.
    If your users and such are back to the way they were then you can also delete the second previous systems folder.

  • XI standard users and the passwords?

    Anyone with a list of all the standard XI users and their standard password?

    Hi Rune,
    The XISUPER user has a pwd of XIPASS.
    The following service users are created during the installation, and the passwords are specified at that time. You should check with the basis people.
    XIREPUSER - User for the Integration Repository
    XIDIRUSER - User for the Integration Directory
    XIAPPLUSER - User for sender applications
    XIRWBUSER - User for the Runtime Workbench
    XILDUSER - User for the System Landscape Directory
    XIISUSER - User for the Integration Server
    XIAFUSER - User for the Adapter Engine (communication between SLD, Integration Server, and Adapter Framework)
    LSADMIN - User for the Change Management Server

  • How to change default /Users and /Groups to different Volume?

    Users are created in /Volumes/<boot>/Users and groups in /Volumes/<boot>/Groups.
    We need these to be created on a different volume, eg., /Volumes/External/Users, and /Volumes/External/Groups.
    Setup Assistant correctly put user Backups into */Volumes/External/Shared Items/Backups* and also correctly put web services on /Volumes/External/ServiceData -- we want to do the same for Groups and Users.
    Groups are the most critical, as the group needs bulk storage. Users we could leave as is if it can't be done.
    How can this be configured? We've read File Server Admin, Open Directory Admin, and Advanced Server admin from http://www.apple.com/server/macosx/resources/documentation.html without finding an answer.
    Thanks in advance.

    1. Create new folders on the external volume to hold users and groups, but to prevent confusion name them something other than "Users" and "Groups". /Volumes/External/NetUsers and /Volumes/External/NetGroups would be reasonable choices.
    2. Share both of these folders (in Server Admin -> server name in sidebar -> File Sharing -> Volumes & Browse modes -> select each folder -> click Share near the top right).
    3. Enable both folders for automounting on clients (Server Admin -> server name in sidebar -> File Sharing -> Share Points-> select each folder -> Share Point tab under that -> Enable Automount option) with the default options (Directory: /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1, Protocol: AFP, Use for: User home folders and group folders). Be sure to click Save (not just OK in the dialog).
    4. To migrate users, run Workgroup Manager, and change the home location for the users you want to move (select Accounts in the toolbar -> /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 from the hidden pop-up menu under that -> User icon tab at the left -> select the user(s) you want to change -> Home tab on the right -> select the NetUsers option from the "Where" list). Then, for each user, run this command on the server: "sudo cp -Rp /Users/username /Volumes/External/NetUsers".
    5. Similarly, move Group folders in WGM (Accounts -> /LDAP... -> Groups icon on left -> select groups to move -> Group Folder tab on right -> NetGroups in the list). Then, for each group, run "sudo cp -Rp /Groups/groupname /Volumes/External/NetGroups".
    6. Test to make sure all is working before deleting the old user and group folders from /Users and /Groups (do NOT delete /Users and /Groups themselves, just the individual folders from under them).

  • Bridge Cache Destination Cannot be Changed from Old User and Find does not Work

    Often administrators find themselves in a position of making a new admin account to resolve a lost system drive or some compatibility problem.
    If Bridge has a cache destination linked to this old account, it is due to the older admin account being deleted before the new admin account is setup in Bridge with the cache destination properly linked to the new user cache in the library locations for bridge caches.  This problem causes some headaches with things like keywords and find.
    If you have had to restore your system or generate a "new user" account, it would be important to go into Bridge and ensure that your cache preference in pointing at the right location, before deleting the "old user".  If the "old user" is deleted, you might find the cache location locked to this "old user" in a file structure that no longer exists.  This makes if fixed and unchangeable.
    If you encounter this problem, regenerate the old user name as an administrator account.  Go into that account and start Bridge.  Check the location of the cache file in the preferences.  You will see that it is located in the proper place for this new account.  It is also the same location as your current account which no doubt you have found is frozen into place.
    At this point, while in the "old user" admin account:
    Go get info on your "old user"/Library/Caches/Adobe/Bridge CS3/Cache
    Note the folder nest and go to each folder and apply permissions to each of these folders that allow your "new user" read and write access.  You can do this in one step by applying the permissions to the Library folder and all enclosed folders, but who knows what that might do.  Focus on solving the problem.
    Then:
    Switch back to your "new user" (that is your current user) account, open Bridge, go to the preference for cache and you will note, magically, it is now located in the right account, it has been unfrozen from the "old user", once deleted, and now brought back to life to help you get ride of this problem.
    For good measure, press the choose button, you will find you go to the finder to the right location in your "new user"/current user account.
    You will also find that FIND works after this and also Bridge is zippy and fast as it should be.
    You can now quit Bridge, Log Out of your "new user" account, log back in and find that all is just the way it should be.  Once this is done, go into your system preferences for users and delete the "old user" account (into the trash, do not save a thread).
    It seems that there are many situations where reviving and old user id will help with repairs to permissions problems in a mac that has been through system drive failure or significant application conflicts that require making a new user.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • What is the user and password to Oracle 8.17

    Dear expert,
    I have loaded IDES 4.7 with Oracle 8.17.
    I wish to query the SAP table using Oracle PL/SQL.
    What is the user, password and string to login into SAP Oracle database? Since I was not asked for user and password when installing Oracle I do not know how to login.
    Also can you let me know how to view/change table fields in SAP tables. I understand there are different ways but which in your opinion is the easiest to find the record I want to correct(as some tables have many fields).
    Your kind assistance is appreciated.

    Thank you for your reply. Both the user and password does not work on my IDES 4.7e system.
    However I tried with user Internal and without password and I successfully login.
    I then create a new user and also change the user=system
    password.

  • How to reset users and groups in Server.app?

    Recently after change settings in the Server.app (like turn off/on open directory, delete/add certificates), I got a strange problem:
    In the users and groups list, it display all local users and groups (looks like system users and groups, about 100 users and groups, but this is a new server)
    I tried reset the server.app by following
    howto reinstall/reinitialize os x server
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT200271?viewlocale=en_US
    These users and groups still showing there.
    Have you seen this before and how can I completely reset the server.app to factory default so that I can start over the set up?

    In theory, that should restore the users.  You can do some surgery if you are really brave.  But the reinstall generally should be enough.
    These accounts are in the DSLocal data store.  Basically, this is very similar to the any OS X machine.  Apple keeps a default copy of the Local Database here:
    /System/Library/DirectoryServices/DefaultLocalDB/Default
    Should you need to reset a machine to the default local database, you can remove the current database (/var/db/dslocal/nodes/Default) and then copy the default one to the same location.  I would not go this far unless the reinstall was unsuccessful.
    To check, you can run this command:
    dscl . list /Users
    That will list all the Users in the local DB.   To get a count, pipe to wc
    dscl . list /Users | wc -l
    On a Server that I just jumped on, I see 79 users and 111 groups (dscl . list /Groups | wc -l)  But this is a system will man SACL groups so I likely have more than the default.
    Hope this continues to help.  Probably more info that you want.

    Can you read it with a Windows machine? Yes.
    2) is there an iTunes sharing server installed ?
    No. It's a NAS, not a server.

    Not a server.

    Yes.

    You mean loud? Personally, I don't think so.
    6) can it be vertically mounted ?
    It has been done.

  • Created By User added to Assigned To User when Assigned To User is empty

    I have a requirement to build a runbook activity that will assign the Assigned To User to match the Created By User when the Assigned To User field is empty. However, I am having difficulty pulling both the Assigned To User and the Created By User and keeping
    them on the same data bus to do my update after comparing my Assigned To field.
    Here is the runbook how I have it currently configured.
    High Level Flow
    Get RBA
    Get CR
    Get Users
    Pull the Created By and Assigned To users
    Determine if Assigned To user is Empty
    If Assigned To user is not empty then end
    If Assigned To user is empty then Update CR to have Created By User = Assigned To User then end
    My problem lies in trying to keep both the Assigned To and Created By users on the same data bus so I can have the Create Relationship activity make the assignment. If I put them in sequential order or wrap around the Created By user with the Assigned To
    user, it has issues pulling the Assigned To user. Here is my attempt of keeping the users on the same databus but this fails when trying to pull the 'Assigned To' user - it makes them the 'Created By' user.
    Any help will be appreciated.

    If the Assigned To User is blank then it will not be returned from the get relationship activity since it does not technical exist. What you can do is flatten the data coming from the Get AD Users activity. Then put a filter on the link to only include
    if the Relationship Class does not contain Assigned To User. This will make it so your runbook will only continue if an Assigned To User is not present. Then you can add a second Get Relationship this time to return the value for the Created By user. Again
    you will create a link filter, but have it only include Created By User. Then you can use the data returned from that to set the Assigned To User.
