Hi All,
When we use views,when we use Materialized views and when we use Data Base Links.I am really struggling to understand.
View contains updated data and Materialized view also contains updated data .As per my knowledge Materialized view are local copys of remote database.
But we can access remote tables using dblinks also.As follows
INSERT INTO local_table select * from rm_table@remote_databse.
But what is the advantages of materialized views .What can we achieve using MVIEWS.
Please help me and please provide me a real time example.

You can use a database link, sure. But think about the physics of the two approaches.
If you are relying on a database link, then you have to move the data over the network (the slowest component of the system) every time you want to query it. That may be acceptable if you just need to do a single-row lookup (though you are adding a network round-trip or two which can be meaningful in an OLTP transaction). If you have to select thousands or millions of rows, however, that is going to be far less efficient than querying a local cache (i.e. data replicated locally via a materialized view).
Related to that, if you are trying to join a local table and a remote table, Oracle may have to copy all the data from one of the tables to the other system so that one system can do the join and then return the results back to the originating system. That can involve a lot of network traffic and can be extremely hard to tune.
If you are relying on a database link, then your system will fail when the remote system is down which means that the administrators of the remote system have to coordinate downtime with users of your system. If you have a small company where all databases have the same uptime requirements and can be safely brought offline together for maintenance, that's probably not too big a deal. In a Fortune 500 company where there are hundreds of different databases supporting thousands of different applications with various downtime requirements, however, it would be an impossible task to coordinate maintenance with every downstream system that wanted to consume another system's reference data.
And, if you are relying on a database link, you're putting load on the source system every time a query is run. One of the common reasons that people create reporting databases and replicate data there is so that they can keep their OLTP system performance acceptable rather than having one or two rogue reporting queries consuming large amounts of system resources at inopportune times. That is, when a manager decides to get the report of total sales by region, you don't want that work slowing down the process of actually taking new orders. Particularly if 10 managers may all decide on a random Tuesday afternoon to run the report in preparation for a 3 o'clock meeting meaning that you would have 10 sessions all copying the same data over the network simultaneously, 10 reporting sessions putting a load on the order processing system, etc.

Different subpartitioning schemes for mviews and PCT-refresh
It appears that I can have a table RANGE-partitioned by some field (DATE) and LIST-subpartitioned by another field (let's call it subfield2). Then I create materialized view (mview) based on that table, RANGE-partitioned by the same DATE field, but subpartitioned by another field (subfield1, logically parent of subfield2). Then I create another mview, again RANGE-partitioned by the same DATE field, but not subpartitioned at all.
PCT-refresh (dbms_mview.refresh('mview_name', 'P')) works fine, producing correct results. But I wonder if subpartitioning is taken into account when refreshing mviews. My suspicion is that only primary partitioning is taken into account, and primary partitions are refreshed as a whole, even if only one or few subpartitions have been modified in a table. Are my assumptions correct?
Another question - can I preserve partitions in mview if dropping them in underlying table? Table stores raw data, and legacy partitions may be dropped to free up some space. But mviews which store data aggregated on some levels may need to preserve data either longer than in raw table, or forever. Since installing LTR 5.4, which I've now upgraded to 5.6, I've encountered repeated slowness and malfunctions in operations, especially when using the Compare View function and the Tab key to open and close the right and left side panels. Such problems never arose during two years of using LTR-4 and nothing else has changed on my computer. I have a pretty simple system with only a few plug-ins, which are usually not in operation. I have 12GB of RAM in my Windows 7 PC. I could illustrate these problems with screen shots if you would tell me how to submit screen shots. Otherwise I will try to describe the problems in words.
The problem is clearly cumulative, growing worse as usage time passes. Compare View feature gradually slows down and eventually seems to choke as my work session proceeds. If I Exit LTR and re-enter and start all over, things will work normally for maybe 30 minutes, but then the Compare View feature begins to become very slow to respond. In a recent example with my screen full of thumbnails in Library mode I highlighted two images to compare. LTR started to open the Compare View screen by first having the top row of thumbnails disappear to be replaced by the "SELECT" and "CANDIDATE" words in their spaces (but no images), but Compare View never succeeded in gaining control of the screen. After some seconds the top row of thumbnails reasserted its position and the Compare View windows disappeared. But LTR kept trying to bring them back. Again the top row of thumbnails would go away, Select and candidate would reappear, try again, and give up. This went on for at least 2-3 minutes before I tried to choose File and Exit, but even that did not initially want to respond. It doesn't like to accept other commands when it's trying to open Compare View. Finally it allowed me to exit.
To experiment I created a new catalog of 1100 images. After 30-40 minutes, the Compare View function began to operate very slowly. With left and right side panels visible and two thumbnails highlighted, hitting Compare View can take half a minute before the two mid-size images open in their respective SELECT and CANDIDATE windows. When the side panels are open and two images are in the Select/Candidate spaces, hitting the Tab button to close the side panels produces a very delayed response--25-30 seconds to close them, a few more seconds to enlarge the two images to full size. To reverse the process (i.e., to recall the two side panels), hitting Tab would make the two sides of the screen go black for up to a minute, with no words visible. Eventually the info fields in the panels would open up.
I also created a new user account and imported a folder of 160 images. After half an hour Compare View began mis-placing data. (I have a screen shot to show this.) CANDIDATE appears on the left side of SELECT, whereas it should be on the right. The accompanying camera exposure data appears almost entirely to the left of the mid-screen dividing line. Although the Candidate and Select headings were transposed, the image exposure data was not, but the data for the image on the right was almost entirely to the left of the line dividing the screen in two.
Gurus in The Lightroom Forum have examined Task Manager data showing Processes running and Performance indicators and they see nothing wrong. I could also send screen shots of this data.

Look to see where they are stored in iTunes. Most are downloaded and stored in iTunes U under library. Those should be shown in iTunes U which is a part of the iPod app on the iPad. I have had a couple that had bad data in the metadata and were classified as Movies and placed in Movies. I selected those and right clicked (control click if no mouse with right click) on those, selected Get Info, selected Options, and changed Media Kind to itunes U. They were moved to the iTunes U section by iTunes. -

I am using Jdeveloper 12c "Studio Edition Version 12.1.2.0.0"
This what I did:
1- I created a read only view object with this query "Select sysdate from dual"
2- I added this View object to the application module
3- I created a new method that change the query of this View object at runtime

Can someone please give me some input on the following warning in the JDeveloper online help!
"Warning: You cannot create an EJB finder view link that expresses the same relationship as a CMR."
I'm new to EJB, BC4J and JDeveloper. I created container managed entity beans with local interfaces only to represent my data and relationships. No problems with the mapping so far.
To test the beans I used Session Facades with remote interfaces and build a sample test client.
Now I thought I could create EJB Entity Facades, EJB Finder View Objects, EJB Finder View Links and EJB Application Modules to make use of the BC4J framework in order to speed up programming clients (JSP and JClient).
So I've started studying the JDeveloper online help (which seems to be very useful) and found the above mentioned warning.
Well, better a warning than nothing at all, but some more explanations would have been even better.
Is there no need to use view links with CMR?
How to achieve the same functionality (synchronizing two view objects in a master-detail-relationship) with CMR?
Do you know any examples? I couldn't find any examples using EJB entity facades in the "sample code" area on OTN.
Any comments about other (better) architectures are also welcome. Would it be better to use BMP entity beans in conjunction with BC4J?

For educational purposes I'd like to look at both persistence implementation strategies. I agree that it looks definitly easier to use entity objects. Certainly it's also performancewise a better choice.
Anyhow, could you give me some useful tips for cmp entity beans and finder view objects?
Is there something which works completely different if I use BC4J on top of it?
How to implement a master-detail relationship in JClient (Swing) for example?
What about writing an ejbfinder which doesn't return all, but all data where the foreign key is equal to a parameter passed to the finder method and use this as the source for a detail view object. This could be the primary key of the selected master. Well, I don't know whether this is doable. But that's what comes to my mind spontaneously.
Would this be a solution? I'm still thinking about the aforementioned warning in the online help regarding view links.
I guess the problem is that the foreign key is not part of the entity bean as it's not a cmp-field. Instead you have accessor methods to retrieve a related object or a collection of objects.
I'm sure my questions are not too complicated to answer. It's only hard for a beginner to get an overview.
I'm quite confident that I'll manage this if I give my best and get some help from knowledgeable people like you Steven.

Iterating through master view objects and child view objects in same page
I am working on a project using ADF UIX and Business Components.
I have an application module with two view objects one the master view object and the second the detail object. They are related via a view link.
I would like to iterate through the master view objects displaying a customer name as bold text and then below each customer name I'd like to display the detail records in a table via the detail view object i.e. a seprate table for each customer.
Is this possible - I haven't had much luck!?

I don't know the exact syntax, but I think you need to iterate through all the '.ms_vb2 a' items as well - there are multiple ones, and do something like this inside your other grouping

xtantoDesigner itself has no direct integration with JDeveloper. However, there are three options. First of all, you can get a JDeveloper extension (download this separately) that lets you create a Connection to a Designer repository. From that Connection you can find modules that you defined in Designer and generate Entity and View objects for the tables and columns that you used in those modules, and an Application Module. It does not create JSPs or other user interface objects.
Another option is to buy JHeadstart from Oracle. This contains a set of code generators and ADF extensions that include an ability to get information from a Designer repository. JHeadstart works fine for non-Designer users too, but was built by the same people who wrote Designer Headstart - they know the repository API intimately.
The third option is to download Oracle Designer Extension Builder (ODEB) which was just recently made available. This is a product of a collaboration between Designer users from the Oracle Development Tools Users Group (ODTUG) and Oracle to extend the capabilities of Designer with user written tools and utilities. You could use ODEB to write your own generators for ADF Business Components. Or you could wait and see if someone else in the user community does this. I hope that you or whoever does such a generator will be willing to share it with us all. -
Crystal Reports Viewer 2008 and parameter fields
Hello,
I saw this product on the main Crystal Reports site this afternoon and decided to download it to try it out. I have a number of users who would benefit from being able to preview their report results prior to actually running the report. This seems like the perfect product. I have a large number of Crystal Reports which were created in Crystal version XI. I also downloaded the free 30 day version of Crystal Reports 2008 yesterday to see what new features are there.
While testing Crystal Reports Viewer, I tried to run one of my reports which needs a parameter to run properly (account number). This type of parameter is needed for probably 98% of this business' reports.
The problem: Crystal Reports Viewer does not prompt me to input the parameter. In my actual Crystal Report, I had the box "Save Data with Report' left unchecked, as the account number frequently changes. However, if that box is left unchecked, Crystal Reports Viewer will give me the error message "No Saved Data. This report file does not contain saved data and cannot be viewed. To get data into the report, please open and re-save it in the Crystal Reports designer application with the "Save Data with Report" option selected."
Thinking that possibly it was the version of Crystal Reports in which the report was created (XI), I downloaded the free trial of Crystal 2008 and created a very simple test report with one parameter for account number where the account number is retrieved from our database. And I am having the same trouble.
The "Help" section of Crystal Reports Viewer tells me that I can select my parameters in the parameter panel. I do not see anything in my parameter panel other than the words "Current Data Set Last refreshed: 04/12/10 2:58 PM". The help tells me that I can "select the parameter directly in this panel by entering a new value", but there is no option to do so.
Any help would be appreciated.

NoelWhat I've learned is that I was originally using Crystal Viewer XI and upon opening it I received a message indicating there was an update.
I ran the update which put me on Crystal Viewer 2008.
Since then I have not been able to refresh my screen to bring up the parameters.

I have an existing view named main_view.
Inside main_view, I create a view ui container named vcu_view.
I embed the main_view into my window.
I need the codes to create a view dynamically and embed the view into the view container. Anyone have any idea?

Error while executing procedure in TOAD which contains parameter and dblink
Hi all,
I am getting error while executing the following code in TOAD and APEX.
It contains parameter( start_date and end_date) and dblink(@TO_FUT).
When I hardcode the parameter values, It works fine.
When I dont give hardcoded values in the procedure, the error comes.
When I comment the lines whereever parameter comes, still the error comes.
I am not sure whether it is parameter issue or dblink issue or some other issue
Is anybody having any clue about this error?

Is the link name supposed to be variable?
What do you mean by 'hard coding' the values, do you mean in the procedure itself so you'd actually PROC_ENR_ACC();?
What happens when you run this?DECLARE

I have SharePoint 2010 environment. I configured Word Viewing Service and PowerPoint service accordingly and all working perfectly. But recently it didn't work any more. I deleted services and recreate services, even stop and restart the service from Central
