change it within the environment. You can change your global PATH, or
you can set the PATH in a command window, and then run 'ide.exe' in the

Visual Cafe and Oracle thin driver
I have created a java applet using visual cafe and oracle think
driver. The applet connects to database within the visual cafe
environment. If I try launching applet locally within a browser
I get the following error "Error:securit. Couldn't connect to
'host' within origin from 'local_classpath_classes" Any help is
greatly appreciated.
THanks

I also had this problem. Its a general security problem.
Because your trying to connect to another machine, you
must sign your applet to get full security privelages from
within your browser. The sandbox within the JVM of the browser
doesn't let you open connections to other machines.
(Although my original understanding was that if the applet
was stored locally, then you had full privelages - but it
didn't work like this for me.)
Try signing your applet.

Ok.
Once you get this working, I will have some suggestions that
will make this run much faster. For now, I think the issue
is the driver version. We package an old oracle thin driver
inside our weblogic.jar, so you need to get oracle's latest
appropriate driver, and edit the start-weblogic script so
the driver you want comes before the weblogic.jar in the
-classpath argument for the java line that starts the server.
PS:
I am looking at the code, thank you, but you still haven't
explicitly said what problem you're having!
thanks

Hi! I need two more things from you, please:
1 - A full statement of what problem you're having.
2 - More of the code. All I see here is you are getting
a connection directly from Oracle's driver, and code which
does a ResultSet.getString() call.
I need to see the logic from getting the connection, to creating
the statement, to executing the query, to doing ResultSet.next()
for each row and getting the row data for each.
It seems that this is either an application code or jdbc driver
problem because no weblogic code is being used, so it could probably
be duplicated in a small stand-alone program (without any weblogic
stuff).

Problems with classpath and oracle drivers
Hi, i've developed an application that uses oracle drivers "classes12.jar" using Eclipse. While i was writing the code, i manually specified the classpath which contains "classes12.jar" file using Eclipse's own configuration tool and now it works perfect when i run it under Eclipse. I then tried to run it using dos prompt but when i tried to run the program i got "ClassNotFoundException: oracle.jdbc.driver.oracledriver". As you can guess, i thought that was a classpath issue so i set the classpath as follows:
set CLASSPATH=C:\oracle\ora92\jdbc\lib
where the directory "C:\oracle\ora92\jdbc\lib" is the one that contains classes12.jar file which i had also specified using Eclipse before.
After that, i recompiled my application and tried to launch it as follows:
->javac Test.java
->java Test
But then i got the following runtime error:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Test
Since this happened after i manually set CLASSPATH variable, this has something to do with that. What should i do now? Thanks in advance.Correct - the JAR has to be spelled out in the CLASSPATH.
I'd also recommend that you not set CLASSPATH using a system environment variable. Better to use the -classpath parameter on javac.exe when you compile and java.exe when you run. Put the command into a script that you invoke when you start up the app. It'll document the fact that it's needed for anyone that comes after you and relieves you from having to change the CLASSPATH on machines you deploy to. And, for good measure, app servers like Tomcat and WebLogic totally ignore the system CLASSPATH. I don't even have one.

MS Visual C++ and ORACLE datatypes
I am using MS C++ and ADO to pass a date parameter to an
ORACLE stored procedure. The stored procedure is expecting an ORACLE DATE value. I am passing a COleDateTime variable as in the following code:
COleDateTime calltime = COleDateTime::GetCurrentTime();
pParam = pCommand->CreateParameter("",adDate,adParamInput,sizeof(DATE),(DATE)calltime);
pCommand->Parameters->Append(pParam);
pParam.Release();
ORACLE is only seeing the date portion not the time. The time is 00:00. Can anybody explain to me how to pass a date/time value properly ?
Thank you.Some code thats seems to work setting a date column in a recordset:
SYSTEMTIME TimeStruct;
CTime t;
COleDateTime date;
t = lpEnt->UpdateDate;
t.GetAsSystemTime(TimeStruct);
date.SetDateTime(TimeStruct.wYear, TimeStruct.wMonth, TimeStruct.wDay, TimeStruct.wHour, TimeStruct.wMinute, TimeStruct.wSecond);
pRstEnt->Fields->GetItem("updatedate")->PutValue((_variant_t)(float)date); -
Visual Age 3.5, WLS 5.1, Integration Kit 5.1 beta and JSP?
Hello,
i have a problem with the missing JSP-support in Visual Age. It would be a
workaround to develop JSP outside Visual Age and just put them into the
myserver/public_html directory. But if i start WLS from within Visual Age,
the JSP won't compile, i get the error:
D:\Java\bea51\myserver\classfiles\jsp_servlet\_test.java:48: Wrong number of
arguments in method.
if (sci.isResourceStale("/test.jsp", 978702001388L, "5.1.0 Service
Pack 6 09/20/2000 21:03:19 #84511")) return true;
Operating System is WinNT 4.0, Service Pack 6, i use the professional
edition of Visual Age.
Is there a wrong setting in the IDE or is it impossible to develop JSPs with
the Integration Kit?

Reinhard Maier

Performance of Weblogic 4.03 and Visual Age 2.0
Hello,
I am experiencing severe performance problems when running Weblogic 4.03 and
Visual Age 2.0. The server runs extremely slowly in this environment,
however, the 3.13 version did not suffer from this. Has anyone else noticed
this? Is there anything I can do about it?

Has anyone else noticed this? Is there anything I can do about it?You can set the following undocumented property in weblogic.properties:
weblogic.system.gc.intervalSecs=5
There's some kind of bad interaction between Visual Age and WebLogic's
garbage collection control. Basically, there's a garbage collection
task that by default runs once a second, and in the Visual Age VM,
something it's doing takes more than a second.
The problem only seems to exist in WebLogic 4.0.3. It doesn't happen in
4.5.x. Also, according to one report I've had, you may need to set the
property value to more than 5 on slower machines.
Note that this property is unsupported, and is not guaranteed to even
exist in any other version of WebLogic.

I didn't find any other forum where I could post that question, so, sorry if it disturbs...
I try to call an EJB deployed in Oracle 8i from a servlet deployed in WebSphere, but it fails.
I use VisualAge to create the servlet, and I encounter many problems to develop an EJB client.
So I decided to see if an EJB client from Oracle could work directly in Visual Age... so I've deployed the HelloWorld EJB sample in Oracle 8i, and compiled the Client.java and executed it: it works from my DOS command (under NT).
I put it in Visual Age, and it fails. Has anyone already done such a thing, or am I doomed to use the products of only one vendor to develop my application in a language that is said to be cross-platform, vendor-independant, ... ?
nullYes, I put everything needed by the client in Visual Age as it is defined in the sample Client.java from Oracle (the HelloWorld EJB sample).
The problem comes from JNDI, I think, but I don't know exactly why. I wonder if the InitialContext has been correctly created...
Also, I wonder if there is a problem with the CLASSPATH defined in VisualAge (a priority problem), because I don't know why it fails under VA, and that it works under a NT command (java.exe). There must be a redefinition in the classes of VA... and don't know exactly... -
Weblogic 5.1 and Visual Age 3.5
Hello !
I'am using Weblogic server 5.1 and i want to add the visual age integration kit to my visual age enterprise edition 3.5. But i wonder if there is an integration kit for this version of visual age ?
Any hint is appreciated !I am also in this boat! And the boat really wants to leave the docks
this week (so we can move all our dev int VA).
A contractor here got it working, but I am having some difficulty.
So far, I've gotten the server to start, but I am having problems
getting the JDBC20 drivers to do the right thing. (What's strange is
that the app is running fine on our Solaris environments. It just
doesn't fly in VA on NT.)
If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it. We have a support call
out to BEA...
Getting the integration kit installed isn't that hard. Just follow the
instructions. When you try to add the features, you'll get error alerts
saying that class javax.aaa.bbb.ccc already exists in the Java class
libraries. You have to delete each of these packages that clashes,
re-runing the "add feature" each time.
To delete a package, first, open an edition for "Java class libraries",
and then delete the package. (On the project, Right
mouse->Manage->Create Open Edition, then on the package, Right
mouse->Delete...)
There might be some stray problems. I try to eliminate them by finding
the relevant package (click on each problem, and look in the status bar
at the bottom of the window) and then changing the particular version
being used. Go with the ones weblogic provides. I think that was all.
After this, you can go with the instructions in the kit. It's a little
tricky setting up parallel config files if you're going to develop on
DOS and deploy on Unix.
If you're using VA and WL, please drop me an email.

Oracle JDeveloper vs. IBM Visual Age for Java
Hi,
I have been out of this forum for quite sometime now.I wanted to know how JDeveloper is doing in general and how is its performance when compared to IBM Visual Age for Java IDE?
Any links to sites related to this would be helpful.
Thanks in advance,
SandeepSandeep,
Be careful while using JDeveloper for developing real time applications. There are very good features in JDeveloper, but this tool is having LOT OF BUG's...you know what I mean. You will end up having sleepness nights later to dig the problems and then to have answer from Oralce, which will always be you better shift to new version. When you will try to shift to new version, lots of earlier classes would have been removed in JDeveloper and then you will be forced to use new ones and take a hit of additional effort.
Otherwise Its a very good tool and can be the no .1 Java IDE, if oracle technical staff work hard and make this product a bit stable.

Visual C++ 6.0 and Oracle
Hii..
I m using Visual c++ 6.0 and Oracle 10 g. I m very new to vc++. And i would lik to build some database applications.
I couldnt find any resource in the net.
can anyone help me ?? Send some sample codes and documents !!
sankar.sBTW this is not the right forum for C++ stuff, this one's meant for anything related to ODBC
I guess you meant building database applications using C++
For that you can use OCCI, following link can provide some info on OCCI with few samples
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/oci/occi/index.html
For detailed documentation on OCCI you can browse

Commerce Server and Visual Age 3.5
I tried and was unsuccessful getting the Commerce server (3.11) to run
under Visual Age 3.5. I can get it to start up correctly, but if I test
a commerce application, Visual Age disappears with no messages. From
my experiments, I think it is a problem with a conflict between versions
of the CORBA or javax components that cannot be loaded into VA from the
weblogic distribution (because they are 'required by the system' in VA;
no workaround I know of to get them in there). Another constraint is
that you must use the weblogic.Server class from the Weblogic VA
Integration Kit; perhaps it is incompatible.
So, has anybody got a commerce application to appear running the
weblogic commerce server under visual age 3.5?
Note that I did get the plain weblogic server 5.1.0 running with thte VA
integration kit, and I can get the commerce server to startup correctly.
BryanBryan,
I have succesfully used Kawa 5.x Enterprise (Beta) with WLCS. You should
check it out if you are interested in a more "standards" based solution for
the Windows platform.
Sincerely,
Daniel Selman

Any difference in the dbms and jdbc drivers btw oracle 8i lite and 9i lite
Is there any significant difference between oracle 8i lite and oracle 9i lite in terms of database and jdbc drivers?
If not, it may be better off using oracle8i.According to Oracle , 9i lite is more powerful than 8i Lite.
one thing, 8i Lite is not certified for windows 2000.

Visual Web Developer 2010 Express and Oracle ODAC - Oracle data provider
system - xp pro
Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2010 Express and Oracle ODAC112021.
I can't seem to get the ODAC to work correctly with the Web Developer Express. When putting in a gridview I only see the standard adapters. The one from Oracle does not appear. I have spent days trying to figure out why but no luck. No one else seems to have this problem. I do not see any errors when I installed the ODAC. I've followed a few tutorials.
http://weblogs.asp.net/nannettethacker/archive/2010/09/17/installing-oracle-data-access-components-odac.aspx
and
http://www.smart-soft-nz.com/oracle-and-asp-dot-net.html
I tried using the Windows adapters but they just don't seem to work. I can get results in the query builder but when I go to the next step in the wizard I get the constraints error. I've done all the research on that with no luck so I wanted to use the ODAC. This killing me! This really shouldn't be that hard. I've added the dll to the references but again it's just not an option. If anyone could give me a little direction that would be great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you
JohnDear Friends,
Installing SP1 and updates to it solved the first issue. So the database now seems to be of type 2008 R2.
Deleting some files solved the second issue.
However, another issue remains.
My most important projects were created with a version of VWDX 2010 that was downloaded from Microsoft and installed on July 3, 2012. This version of VWDX has now been lost, because my hard drive recently ceased to function and had to be replaced.
On the new hard drive I have a version of VWDX 2010 that was downloaded yesterday (May 28, 2014). As indicated above, I also installed SP1 and related updates.
When I load a project that was created in the version of VWDX 2010 that was installed almost two years ago and try to open the database connection, I get, in essence, the following error message:
"The database C:\Users\...\Database.mdf cannot be opened, because it is version 661. This server supports version 655 and earlier. A downgrade path is not supported."
So it seems that the original database version was 661, whereas the version downloaded yesterday is 655. It seems very strange that a version downloaded now should be earlier than a version downloaded two years ago. Does anyone have an explanation or a solution?
Thank you all for your trouble, and best regards.
Eric (orexin)
P.S. The site from which I obtained VWDX yesterday was:
www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/en-us/products/2010-editions/visual-web-developer-express and the executive was called VWD2010SP1AzurePack.exe. -
Visual Age 3.0b and WLS451, how to setup ???
I use Visual Age 3.0b on a NT 4(SP3) and imported
all classes directly under /weblogic into an own project
all classes in /weblogic/boot into an own project and
all the the other classes in /weblogic into a third project
Anyway, independent of the project structure, when I
run the weblogic.Server class I get the following message
onto the console output:
The weblogic.Server class was loaded from the <WEBLOGIC_HOME>/classesdirectory. This means that the <WEBLOGIC_HOME>/classes directory > is in
the Java system classpath, when it should only be in the WebLogic
classpath (as set by the property weblogic.class.path).
Please refer to the Administrators Guide "Setting up and starting theWebLogic Server" at
http://www.weblogic.com/docs45/install/startserver.html for > more
information on how to start the Server.
However neither the "." directory nor the projects themself are in the
classpath
specification in the properties control panel. And in the program panel
I inserted
the setting for the weblogic.class.path which points to the external
library and the external
weblogic directories.
Which method would I have to overwrite and how?
Did anyone find a workaround ???
Thank you very much for your help
TobySolved,
the problem was, that I used the wrong Server class.
I run the class directly under the /weblogic root directory
instead of the class imported from the boot directory.
Actually it´s a bti more complicated if you take a closer
look of the import order, but ... it works now...
Happy Day
Toby
