VMWare Netweaver 70 Java & Abap, Performance Boost

Hi all,
a small tip how to improve the performance of the VM Edition:
0. Create and Add a new VM Ware harddisk with a link to a physical empty partition
1. Logon to Linux with root:sap123 and format the new mounted harddisk with e.g. ext3, mount the new disk to /netweaver_new
2. edit file /etc/init.d/netweaver line 30, comment out #exit 0
3. Stop ALL running Instances /etc/init.d/rc5.d/S12netweaver stop
4. Copy all files from from /netweaver to /netweaver_new with all permisions e.g. cp -fvpr /netweaver /netweaver_new
5. Change mountpoint of old WMware harddisk to /netweaver_old and change new phisical linked hardisk mountpoint /netweaver_new to /netweaver
6. Start ALL /etc/init.d/rc5.d/S12netweaver start
This is 50% faster than running from a virtual disk, have fun !

Netweaver 2004s ABAP or JAVA?

I downloaded the 2004s preview with ABAP app server, but noticed two other distributions. One was full Java and the other express Java.
In the Java distributions, is there still an ABAP development environment? Or are the distributions with J2EE using Java instead of ABAP?

and as i just saw the previous reply to your post which said that the sneak preview is with both java and abap stack.i have a small info for you regarding the same.
SDN recently released 2 Sneak Preview products:
- SAP NetWeaver 04 SP15 Full Java Edition
- SAP NetWeaver 04s Full ABAP Edition (with Web Dynpro for ABAP)
for XI we need both the Java and the Abap stack and not just having them individually because of which you cannot use it for XI.That is, the Sneak Preview products contain either the JAVA or the ABAP stack but not both together.

Netweaver JAVA vs Netweaver ABAP

Hi,
I am new to SAP having java background. Going through some of the information provided i have few questions:
There are two servers now- Netweaver ABAP and Netweaver JAVA. Are both of these application servers provide same functionality, ie, can I do all developments like developing a ERP project (for example a SD Module) using Netweaver Java?
In that case I need to install only Netweaver Java. Pls provide information if any of you are aware.

For running and deploying your Java developments, you of course need a Java Application server, so you need at least a NetWeaver server with a Java stack.
Othe NetWeaver server options are just an ABAP stack and a so-called dual-stack containing ABAP and Java.

Hi all
I've read your entrys.
Saw that the solution is missing.
It can be found in the manuals:
1. Download the "Registry Clean Tool for SAP NetWeaver 2004s ABAP" and use it.
2. Download the latest Version of "SAP NetWeaver 2004s ABAP" and un-rar it.
3. Install the "Microsoft Loopback Adapter" an activate it.
4. Retry to install.
Summary:
So the error 200 was caused for the first time from trying an installation without a Loopback Adapter, and after that from trying to re-install without cleaning the registry.
Now its working fine.

Error when installing SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP 7.02 SP6 32-bit Trial

I have tried several times to install "SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP 7.02 SP6 32-bit Trial".
But i always get an error during install.
I get this error:
An error occurred while processing option SAP NetWeaver 7.0 including Enhancement Package 2 > SAP Application Server ABAP > MaxDB > Central System > Central System
( Last error reported by the step :Program 'Migration Monitor' exits with error code 2. For details see log file(s) import_monitor.java.log, import_monitor.log.
My System specs are:
Windows XP Professional SP3
2GB RAM
JRE 1.5.0_22 or JRE 1.4.2 (i have tried both)
Maybe there is a problem with the correct file size of "Part 2 file" on the [download location|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/index?rid=/webcontent/uuid/f03b3428-91e5-2d10-5fae-9afaad060b0c]
The file size of "part 2 file" should be:
"SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP 7.02 SP6 32-bit Trial Version Part 2 (1.838.392.707 bytes)".
But my file size is always only "1.837.289.009 bytes".
I have tried to download the file with 3 different browsers on two different computers.

So I think what you need is to also download the NW CE 7.1 Trial which will have the server side functionality that you are looking for.

I think there is no official statement except that both is possible, it depends on your needs.
But check out these docs:

and
http://service.sap.com/instguides -> Netweaver 04 -> Installation -> Installation Guide - SAP EP 6.0 (SR1) on WebAS 6.40
there you'll see that also the installation is more complex. Also patching the whole system will take more time as you have to patch also all the ABAP components of the application server.
If you can think of any need to have an ABAP stack on the same system, then make a good decision, because you can't install the ABAP stack afterwards as you can with the JAVA addin.

Does anyone knows where I can download a trial version of 'SAP NetWeaver java Application Server 7.0'?
Because I want to learn EP Portal 7.0.
(I know CE7.1 includes SAP java server 7.1. However because 7.1 changes a lot from 7.0. I don't want 7.1).

i was trying to install the SAP Netweaver 7 ABAP Trail version. i successfully configured the Mslookup Adapter.
After that, when i click the installer, it checked for the java virtual machine and then prompted the following message
The installer had to update some MicroSoft runtime libraries.
For correct operation, a system reboot is required. Do you want to reboot now?
i choose yes and then it rebooted. Then again when i start the installer, it asks for reboot. If i click no, it terminates the installation. I'm fed up with this.. Can someone help me out of this ?

Problem with Netweaver java edition sp16

netweaver java sp15 nstallation completed successfully.
I started the instances from the management control and they started perfectly and everything was green.
but when i tried to access the WAS through http://localhost:50000 , i am getting page not found.
can someone tell me why this is happening?
I installed the abap edition before the java edition.
DO you think that is causing the problem?
help is highly appreciated.

it looks like the port is 50200 not the default 50000
may be i didnt notice that the installation.
since i have installed the abap first it may have taken 50200 but whats the relationship between those those.

In fact Java and similar languages were what i have done before i started with ABAP 1 year ago.
