VS2013.4 Class Diagram inheriting from a base type (how do I)

Hi Folks,
I am creating a VS2013.4 class diagram and one of my classes inherits from a base class System.Configuration.ProviderBase.
In VS2010 there is a way to do this and the class new class would show (Abstract Class -> ProviderBase) in its description.   Is there a way to
When I look at the properties for the class there is no property specifying inheritance.  In VS2010 there is an 'Inherits' property.

Andy

If the User-Agent contains "Fennec/" then it is Firefox for mobile. If it contains "Android" then it is running on an Android device.
We have an open request to add more device info to the User-Agent header. For details, see:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=625238
We'll consider this request, but we must balance it against user privacy, and attacks like browser fingerprinting. For now, in cases where you don't detect a known device from the User-Agent header, you can ask the user instead (for example, have them choose from a list of devices). This will also benefit Android users who have changed their browsers' User-Agent headers for various reasons.

  • Overloading constructor of a child that inherits from a class that inherits from Windows.Forms

    The title might be a bit confusing so here is the layout.
    - classHForm inherits System.Windows.Forms.Form
    - frmDoStuff inherits classHForm  (written by someone else and used in several applications)
      - does not have a constructor specifically defined, so I added the following thinking it would override the parent
    Sub Public New()
    End Sub
    Sub Public New(byval data as string)
    'do stuff
    End Sub
    In my code, I want to instantiate frmDoStuff, but I need to overload it's constructor and populate fields within this form. The problem I'm running into is that when I run this, it is using the constructor from classHForm and ignores any constructor in frmDoStuff.
    I guess you can't override the parent constructor? Is that why it won't work?
    I didn't want to overload the classHForm constructor, but I will if that's the way to go.
    my code:
    dim frm as new frmDoStuff(myString)
    Note: I would love to show actual code, but not allowed. Against company rules.

    Your code is similar. The value I pass into frmDoStuff is supposed to set a value for a textfield.
    Public Class frmDoStuff
    Inherits classHForm
    Public Sub New(ByVal s As String, ByVal gridData() as String)
    txtMyTextField.text = s LoadGrid(gridData)
    End Sub
    I also have a datagridview I need to populate in frmDoStuff and thought I would have another string or string array as a second parameter to the constructor and then call a routine from the constructor to populate the datagrid.
    of course, when I run it this way, the code is not being reached. I'll build an example as COR suggested and maybe someone will see where I'm going wrong.
    [UPDATE]
    I created a simple example and it worked. So, now I need to try to understand what is different in the actual code.
    Here is my example:
    Parent Class inherits form
    Imports System.Windows.Forms
    Public Class classMyForm
    Inherits System.Windows.Forms.Form
    Sub New()
    ' This call is required by the designer.
    InitializeComponent()
    ' Add any initialization after the InitializeComponent() call.
    End Sub
    End Class
    Public Class frmDoStuff
    Inherits classMyForm
    Public Sub New()
    ' This call is required by the designer.
    InitializeComponent()
    ' Add any initialization after the InitializeComponent() call.
    End Sub
    Public Sub New(ByVal sStuff As String)
    MyBase.New()
    InitializeComponent()
    'Populate the textbox
    TextBox1.Text = sStuff
    End Sub
    End Class
    Public Class frmMyForm
    Private Sub Button1_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
    Dim frm As New frmDoStuff(TextBox1.Text)
    frm.Show()
    End Sub
    End Class
    Just to recap. The actual parent was created a few years ago and the child form that I'm calling, "frmDoStuff" was created a couple years back and is used in several applications. I need to use it in my application, but I need to populate a couple
    controls when the form is loaded. As you can see in this example, I successfully overloaded the constructor to populate the textbox in frmDoStuff.
    In my real life situation, my overloaded constructor seems to be getting ignored when i step through the code. I'll go back and do some more testing.

  • Inheriting from a Generic type

    Hello all,
    I'm doing some tests on compiling generics and get confused about the case where a class not considered as a generic could inherit from a generic type. Shouldn't it be implicitly considered as a generic ?
    To illustrate my problem, consider the following:
    I declare a class MyCollection as following:
    public class MyCollection extends Vector {...}
    vector is a Generic type as it is declared as public Vector<E> {...}
    But if I try to instantiate MyCollection, I'm not allowed to do it as:
    MyCollection<Object> col = new MyCollection<Object>();
    but I'm allowed to do:
    MyCollection col = new MyCollection();
    So what happens to the E generic variable of Vector ?
    I can't clearly explain what is MyCollection. I should have implicitly considered it as a Generic type.
    Can someone explain ?

    Not really. I've probably not been clear.
    Java5 exposes in its apis a class defined as:
    public class Vector<E> ...
    Now I define my own colletion class defined as:
    public class MyCollection extends Vector { ...
    This syntax is allowed by the compiler. Note that I
    didn't define my class MyCollection as a Generic.
    BUT, as the superclass IS a generic, How is
    interpreted MyCollection ?
    As a kind of Vector<Object> ?
    What about the E generic type defined in Vector, the
    superclass ?
    I Thought, this way of feining my class MyCollection
    implied it to be Generic also, i.e. that this kind of
    definition means implcitly that it is equivalent as
    defining:
    public class MyCollection<E> extends Vector<E> ...
    But that's not clear to me !!!
    What about you all ???Your definition:
    public class MyCollection extends Vector
    does not make MyCollection generic implicitly, or at all. It is equivalent to
    public class MyCollection extends Vector<Object>
    which is basically the same as using a pre-1.5 Vector. The superclass may be defined as a generic type but that doesn't matter here. MyCollection is not generic, period. It can be interpreted "as a kind of Vector<Object>".
    The superclass doesn't matter to whether or not your class is generic. Your class is generic if and only if you declare it as a generic
    The only way to make your class a proper generic extension of Vector is:
    public class MyCollection<E> extends Vector<E>.
    Is there any reason you don't want to do this?

  • Classes which inherited from the same abstract class calling each other

    I have a design that contains such classes.
    1) Media - defines some methods to get data which business logic wants and some others to deal with data
    media.java
    public abstract class Media {
       public abstract Object getSomeData(String type);
       public void methodForMedia() {
           // do something here...
    }And certainly, a lot of classes derive from it to function differently.
    etc,
    DynamicMedia.java
    public class DynamicMedia extends Media {
       public Object getSomeData(String type) {
          // get some data here...
          return somedata;
       public void methodForMedia() {
           // inherits and overrides here
       public void methodForDynamicMedia(String data1, Object data2) {
           // do something here...
    }FixedMedia.java
    public class FixedMedia extends Media {
       public Object getSomeData(String type) {
          // get some data here...
          return somedata;
       public void methodForMedia() {
           // inherits and overrides here
       public Object getFixedMediaData(String type) {
           // get some fixed data here
           return someFixedData;
    }2) Business - which implements business logic
    public class Business {
         public void transactionOne() {
               FixedMedia fm = getMedia(FixedMedia.class);
               Object fixedData = fm.getFixedMediaData("fixedDataType");
               DynamicMedia dm = getMedia(DynamicMedia.class);
               dm.methodForDynamicMedia("somedata", fixedData);
    }Calling methods defined in DynamicMedia might need
    many data that can only be retrieved through FixedMedia
    (or any similar class just as FixedMedia - derived from Media and handle "fixed" data).
    So we decide to define a field to contain a reference of FixedMedia or its container (a list, map)
    in DynamicMedia to reduce the codes.
    But it results the coupling between DynamicMedia and FixedMedia(s).
    Which design is better on testing, quality?

    Why not just use an interface?
    And why does methodForDynamicMedia() exist only there?
    So we decide to define a field to contain a reference of FixedMedia or its container (a list, map)
    in DynamicMedia to reduce the codes.Sounds like a muddled design. Sometimes you might make an implementation decision that adversely impacts the design but you better have a better reason than just because it reduces some code. Maybe it reduces a lot of code, but if so then that might suggest something is wrong with the design.

  • Loading local JRE classes tries first from document base (jaxp?)

    I am using JAXP in my applet with JRE 1.5. I have set the system property for JAXP to find the correct implementation. Both the implementation and the JAXP "interface" files are located in rt.jar in the local JRE installation.
    But everytime I call a JAXP class it first looks under my document base, in this case the jar file from server where the applet code is! Worse is, ity thinks that is a directory and checks "under" that directory.
    Finally, it does not find the JAXP classes in that jar (on the server), and it finds it locally. But this generates much network traffic.
    Is it possible to tell JVM how to find it's classes in rt.jar?
    This is the console debug logging:
    network: Connecting http://xx.xxx.xxx/xx/applet/egate.jar/META-INF/services/javax.xml.transform.TransformerFactory with proxy=DIRECT

    I have built a desktop application that can use these
    calls to check if the xml contained in the document
    called "file" is well formed.
    Ok. So, the application works fine then?
    DocumentBuilderFactory domFactory =
    DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
    DocumentBuilder domBuilder =
    lder domBuilder = domFactory.newDocumentBuilder();
         domBuilder.parse(file);
    They are part of the javax.xml.parsers.*; package.
    Problem is that to serve this I need to put it in an
    applet but since I have to write the xml string to a
    file local to the server the applet is not working.
    Huh? You lost me there. Are you getting security exceptions from the applet? If yes, you need to sign the applet. Otherwise, what is not 'working' in the applet compared to the application? Also, why do you need to first write it to a file?
    My question is if anyone knows of some classes in the
    API that will allow me to check if a String of XML is
    well formed or not.
    If the document is not well-formed, the parse() call will throw an exception. Catch this and process as needed.
    I basically need to get a string from a field in a
    data base in XML format and be able to test it
    without first writing it to a document so I can get
    the applet to work.
    If you want to access an external database from an applet, you will need to sign the applet. You should not need to first write it to a file before parsing. Rather, simply use a stream (either InputStream or Reader) and wrap it in a StreamSource object.
    If anyone knows something on this or has an
    alternative suggestion please do tell.
    Thanks.- Saish

  • Java Source Code to UML Class Diagram

    Can anyone tell me exactly which kinds of relationships may be identified for a UML CLass diagram, directly from 'static' source code..
    Note that I am developing my own case tool which will convert from java to uml..
    At the moment, I have only managed to get Inheritance and Association relationships..
    Where Association is identified by looking at the types of all variables belonging to a class (excluding method variables etc) and if the type of the variable is non-primitive, than I have deduced it is an association relationship with that class.
    Would this be the right approach?
    Secondly I have noticed in JBuilder, it models dependency relationships by getting all the Imports at the top of the java source file, is this right?? also I have read that a dependency can be modelled by the variable types in operation arguments (paremeterS ?)..
    I would also appreciate if someone could clarify the difference betweeen Composition and Aggregation for me and explain if it is possible to identify the two relationships directly from java source code..
    Last but not least, what about multiplicity ? am I right in thinking that an instance variable is 0-1, an array declaration is seen as 0-n (fixed number) and a Vector/ data collection.. is seen as 0 - * (any number)..
    Thanks for any help,
    Regards
    Tony.

    although this post is way old it could do with a decent answer.
    some guidance can be taken from JSR26: UML Mapping for EJB
    find it a www.jcp.org
    also this research paper on consistency of reverse engineering between uml tools
    http://citeseer.nj.nec.com/545406.html
    Where Association is identified by looking at the types of all variables belonging >to a class (excluding method variables etc) and if the type of the variable is >non-primitive, than I have deduced it is an association relationship with that >class.
    Would this be the right approach?Yes. You could also say that if it is a java.* type then it would also be an attribute.
    Secondly I have noticed in JBuilder, it models dependency relationships by getting >all the Imports at the top of the java source file, is this right?? also I have >read that a dependency can be modelled by the variable types in operation >arguments (paremeterS ?)..JBuilder would be consistent with JSR26, and that's how i intend to implement in ArgoUml.
    I would also appreciate if someone could clarify the difference betweeen >Composition and Aggregation for me and explain if it is possible to identify the >two relationships directly from java source code..Composition is a stronger form of ownership. the composed class is owned only by 1 class. Its lifetime is strongly linked to its owner - ie. it is not created before its owner and it is destroyed before its owner is.
    eg. leg of a table.
    Agregation is weak ownership. the owned class may be owned by several classes.
    eg. a company is owned by many shareholders.
    Last but not least, what about multiplicity ? am I right in thinking that an >instance variable is 0-1, an array declaration is seen as 0-n (fixed number) and a >Vector/ data collection.. is seen as 0 - * (any number)..sound right.

  • Having an inherited function return the derived type instead of the base type

    I am writing two classes in C#:
    A Matrix class
    that represents a general Matrix with n-by-m dimensions
    A SquareMatrix class
    that inherits from Matrix and
    has the constraint of being n-by-n
    The reason I designed it this way is because square matrices support additional specific operations like calculating the determinant or the inverse, so being able to guarantee that those functions are avaliable with the specific type you're using are nice things
    to have. Additionally it would support all the regular Matrix operations and can be used as a Matrix
    I have a function in Matrix called getTranspose().
    It calculates the transpose of the Matrix and returns it as a new Matrix
    I inherited it in SquareMatrix,
    but because the transpose of a square matrix is guaranteed to be square matrix, I also want it to return a SquareMatrix
    I am unsure about the best way to do this.
    I can re-implement the function in SquareMatrix,
    but that would be code duplication because it's essentially the same calculation
    I can use implicit typecast operators, but if I understand correctly that would cause unnecessary allocations (upcast SquareMatrix to Matrix,
    create a new Matrix as
    the transpose, create a new SquareMatrix during
    typecasting and throw away the tranposed Matrix)
    I can use explicit typecast operators, but it would be stupid to have to typecast the transpose of a SquareMatrix explicitly,
    and it also has the same problem of the implicit operator with unnecessary allocations
    Is there another option? Should I change the design of having SquareMatrix inherit
    from Matrix?
    This problem also applies to operators. It seems that I have to either implement typecasting operators which might cost in performance, or have to re-implement the same code.

    Inheritance not helping to eliminate repetition and typecasts is often a sign that generics would help. You can do something like:
    public T getTranspose<T>()
    // or non-member function
    T getTranspose<T>(T input)
    I haven't fully worked it out, but it seems it might get awkward on the calling side. I know C# does some inference with generic methods, but I don't know C#, so I'm not familiar with the details. That might be the way you have to go, though, if you want
    full compile-time type checking with the least amount of repetition in the implementation.
    Another option would be to create private helper functions, then pass in the result type you want, for the helper to populate, like:
    public SquareMatrix getTranspose() {
    SquareMatrix result = new SquareMatrix();
    transposeHelper(result);
    return result;
    This gives you more boilerplate on the implementation side, but at least it isn't full repetition.
    A third option is just to check if the result is square in the Matrix implementation, and return a
    SquareMatrix if it is, like:
    public Matrix getTranspose() {
    Matrix result;
    if (resultIsSquare())
    result = new SquareMatrix();
    else
    result = new Matrix();
    // calculate result
    return result;
    This has the advantage of not needing any implementation at all for getTranspose() in
    SquareMatrix, but at the expense of requiring type checking of the return value at the call site. It also works for cases like multiplying two non-square matrices that happen to give a square result. You give up most compile-time type checking,
    though.
    If your application happens to mostly require run-time instead of compile-time type checking anyway, you might as well just give up the different types and throw an exception if you call a method that a non-square matrix doesn't support. I believe this is
    the approach most existing libraries take, especially since there are other conditions than being non-square that can cause methods like
    inverse() to fail.
    Speaking of libraries, there are a lot of good ones out there for matrix math, that are already heavily tested and optimized. Don't reinvent the wheel if you don't have to.

  • Trying to use super class's methods from an anonymous inner class

    Hi all,
    I have one class with some methods, and a second class which inherits from the first. The second class contains a method which starts up a thread, which is an anonymous inner class. Inside this inner class, I want to call a method from my first class. How can I do this?
    If I just call the method, it will use the second class's version of the method. However, if I use "super," it will try to find that method in the Thread class (it's own super class) and complain.
    Any suggestions?
    Code:
    public class TopClass
         public void doSomething(){
              // do something
    =============================
    public class LowerClass extends TopClass
         // overrides TopClass's doSomething.
         public void doSomething(){
              // do something
         public void testThread(){
              Thread t = new Thread(){
                   public void run(){
                        doSomething();               //fine
                        super.doSomething();          //WRONG: searches class Thread for doSomething...
              t.start();
    }

    Classes frequently call the un-overridden versions of methods from their superclasses. That's that the super keyword is for, if I'm not mistaken.You're not mistaken about the keyword, but you're not calling the superclass method from a subclass. Your anonymous inner class is not a subtype of TopLevel. It's a subtype of Thread.
    Here it is no different, except that I happen to be in a thread at the time.It's vastly different, since you're attempting to call the method from an unrelated class; i.e., Thread.
    I could also be in a button's action listener, for example. It seems natural to me that if I can do it in a method, I should be able to do it within an anonymous inner class which is inside a method.If you were in an button's action listener and needed to call a superclass' implementation of a method overridden in the button, I'd have the same questions about your design. It seems smelly to me.

  • How create class diagram automatically?

    Hi Friends,
    Do you have any idea to generate class diagram automatically? Can you provide a software/IDE name used to generate class diagram automatically from the code itself means reverse engineering?

  • How to shift valuation class from one material type to another material type ?

    I have came across following weird scenario:
    We already created huge no.of materials of material type say ZABC with two valuation classes say 1100 and 1200(GL accounts for these VCs for different posting keys in OBYC settings are same). Account category reference for this material type is 0010.
    After that we created new material type say ZPQR  with new Account category reference 0025, and valuation class 1200 is linked with this ACR 0025. Because of this, valuation class 1200 disappeared from material type ZABC. In order to avoid inconsistency, we need to have valuation class 1200 linked with older material type i.e.ZABC.How we can do this ? What impacts must have happened in this period (from MM/FI) in the system, where valuation class get shifted from one material type(ZABC) to another material type(ZPQR)....please help us in this scenario.

    Thanks Sana,
    We are also looking for the solution provided by you i.e. reassign ACR 0010 to Valuation class 1200.
    Your are also correct in terms of  statement "config doesnt allow me to assign same valuation class to 2 different AREF (Account reference number/Account category reference).
    I wanted to know, what are the possible impacts in the system during this re-assignment of ACR to old material type ZABC.

  • Hide a field inherited by the content type in a custom list definition

    The requirement is to create new content type that inherits from a Parent content type. I also created custom document library definition that uses the newly created content type.
    There are some fields that are inherited from the parent type that I would like "NOT TO" show in the edit/display form in the libraries created based on the new list definition.
    How can I achieve this? In the list definition, I added ShowInEditForm="FALSE" and ShowInDisplayForm="FALSE" ShowInViewForm="FALSE".
    But these fields won't hide and it still shows up when a new document is uploaded. Any help would be appreciated.

  • 2013 Workflows - Trigger a workflow from a Content Type

    So now that a workflow cannot be triggered from a Content Type, how are people doing this now?
    Any suggestions appreciated.
    Thanks
    J Sykes

    Hi,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want to trigger a workflow from a Content Type.
    As we all know, we can attach a workflow to a Content Type, but the workflow cannot run until the Content Type is added to a list or library.
    The elements of a list content type include the columns of metadata that are associated with the content type and workflows that can run on items of that content type.
    More information about the content type and workflow are provided in the link below:

  • ER: Java class diagrams do show inheritance from no-sourcecode classes

    Hi!
    We just noticed that when we extend some classes for which the source code is not available, such inheritance is not visible on diagrams.
    I would like to propose ER to show these inheritances (as the no-source classes signatures are enough to display the class on diagram). It is very inconvenient to have diagrams without possibility to depict the inheritance from many Oracle classes, as this inheritance is more and more important for building ADF applications.
    Thanks for consideration.

  • How to create OO Database from class diagrams?

    I am new to use JDeveloper. I create UML class diagrams (using Entity Object) in JDeveloper, which has inheritances and associations, and then choose Create Database Objects... try to create oo database, but it only create some tables in the database, not any object types ... .
    What do I missed? Or I have to create those oo database objects manually?
    Thanks.

    If the Location of the datafiles is similar to that of source database then you can consider below steps
    Create Oracle Service using oradim
    set ORACLE_SID=NEWDB
    oradim -new -sid NEWDB -intpwd passwordofthesys -startmode M
    Connect to the RMAN
    rman>rman target /
    restore spfile/pfile and control file from backup
    rman>restore spfile to pfile '_localtion of the initNEWDB.ora_' from '_location of the SPFILE Backuppiece_';
    rman>startup nomount pfile='localtion of the initNEWDB.ora';
    rman>restore controlfile from 'file location of the controlfile Backuppiece';
    rman>alter database mount;
    Catalog the RMAN backuppiece of source database
    rman>catalog backuppiece '_location of the rman backuppiece of source database_ ';
    resotore & recover database
    rman>restore database;
    rman>recover database;
    open the database with reset logs
    rman>alter database open resetlogs;
    rman>create spfile from pfile;
    rman>shutdown immediate;
    rman>startup;
    ==================
    If you have access to source database then you can clone using below rman command:
    +rman target _<source database>_ auxiliary _<new database>_+
    rman>duplication target database to _<your new database name>_;
    ==========
    If the location of the datafiles and logfiles are different from source database then you need to add db_file_name_convert and log_file_name_convert to the pfile before starting the recovery process.

  • Reflection: attributes from the base class

    Is there a way to get the attributes from the base class of a derived class via reflection? I only found methods to get the attributes from the derived class.
    Example:
    class A
    int a = 4;
    class B extends A
    int b = 5;
    Object unknown = new B();
    Code/Idea to get all attributes from baseclass A using unknown (here: a=4)?

    Thank you all for your hints. The mistake I make, was to use the baseclass, and not the derived class for getting the attributes. By using an extra parameter of type class I got all attributes in their context.
       private StringBuffer getDump(Object obj, Class cl)
             dmp.append(cl.getName() + " {\n");
             Field[] attribute = cl.getDeclaredFields();             <--- only the fields of the current class
             for (int j = 0; j < attribute.length; j++)
                attribute[j].setAccessible(true);
                try
