Wait on Multiple IRQs

If I wire an array of IRQs {0,1,2} to the "Wait on IRQ" Invoke method with a timeout of -1 does the method wait for all the IRQs or at least one?

Hi Richard,
It seems that the function will wait until it receives any one of the interrupts specified within the array.
You can see which one is called from the IRQ asserted array output of the "wait on IRQ" method node.

    Call waiting says "multiple calls" rather than listing the number or the contact.  This error is not consistent, sometimes it says "multiple calls" and other times it lists the contact.  This is happening on a coworker's iPhone 4s.  Does anyone know how to get it to list the contact every time?
    Thank you,
    Dan

    It sounds as though it may not be ending calls correctly, I would try restarting the phone, and then resetting all settings.

    hello dennis
    sorry for my mutilated post, i got some problems with my keyboard.....
    well, thx for your reply, but the example using OpenG is a "wait ms", but i need a "wait ms multiple".
    i tried the "timed loop" structure from LV 7.1, and that worked perfectly well. now i'm even able to abort the timed loop at any phase of the loop and restart it with a different cycle time setting (see the example attached)

  • Waiting for multiple Replies

    Hi all,
    in my Pub/Sub scenario, the subscribers should send a reply to the publisher through a temporary Topic. The publisher should receive all replies and treat all of them. It's no problem for me to gather the multiple replies (I have written my own Requestor that waits some seconds and during that time gathers the replies). However, this solution is improvable. There is a great chance that the waiting time is too short and the publisher misses some replies that could be very relevant. It would be great if the publisher could find out how many subscribers are currently subscribed and so find out for how many replies it should wait for. Has anyone an idea how to do that?
    TIA, Christian

    This is not defined as part of the specification. Some vendors offer RuntimeMBeans that allow you to get the information. However, without tighter coupling to JMS there would be races. Even registering for JMX notifications would not be enough to close the race. JMS would need to return the number of matched consumers.
    And in some cases the number would not be available. For instance, you send in a transaction. The message doesn't exist until you commit. So the vendor doesn't generally do any matching until commit time. By that time the send has long since completed. How would the count be returned to you.

  • Wait on multiple objects (events)

    Hi all, I am porting some libraries from C# to Java, and i have this littlle problem here:
    I have a Producer-Consumer api that end the Consumer thread waits for two events: NewData and Exit
    Is there a wauy to wait simulaneusly for two objects?
    NOTE: On C# y used WaitHandle.WaitAny(EventWaitHandle[])I can make a class to store the event data, and set a parameter indicating what event was rised, but y preffer to ask you people first
    Thanks!

    If the meaning of "+Exit+" is to break out of the processing loop, then the obvious answer is: use thread.interrupt() which was made for exactly this purpose. Catch the InterruptedException in your processing thread, reset the interrupt state and exit gracefully from the thread.

  • Waiting for multiple threads to complete.......

    Search the forum archives but have not found a definitive solution...
    I have java app which spawns many threads (runnable objects) in the main() method. As one would expect, main exits before the threads finish but I don't want this to happen. I want to wait until all the threads have completed so I can use the results (stored in a vector) in the main thread....kindof like waitformultipleobjects in windows NT...
    does any guru out there know how best to achieve this????
    thanks

    Have you tried using a ThreadGroup? I imagine something like the following. I think it is not so nice because of the empty while loop but you get the idea.
    public class ThreadGroupTest {
         private static class Dummy extends Thread{
              private long sleepms;
              private String msg = null;
              public Dummy(ThreadGroup tg,long sleepms){
                   super(tg,"test"+String.valueOf(sleepms));
                   this.sleepms = sleepms;
              public void run(){
                   try {
                        Thread.sleep(sleepms);
                   } catch (InterruptedException e) {
                   this.msg="Slept "+String.valueOf(sleepms)+" millis.";
              public String getMsg() {
                   return msg;
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              Dummy[] threads = new Dummy[10];
              ThreadGroup tg = new ThreadGroup("test");
              for(int i = 0;i<10;i++){
                   threads[i] = new Dummy(tg,(i+1)*1000);
                   threads.start();
              while(tg.activeCount()>0){
                   System.out.println(tg.activeCount());
              for(int i=0;i<threads.length;i++){
                   System.out.println(threads[i].getMsg());
    Hope that helps.

  • Waiting for multiple images to load

    Are there any support classes which helps with tracking image loading in background issues?
    Something which would work like ImageTracker(List <Image>) and have ability to call one function on finished loading and second if one or more images fails to load.

    Hi, I don't think there is (but, I'm no expert). You can try with Tasks, though. It's a good way to run things in background and be notified when they're done or when error occurs. Check out this link: http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/threads/jfxpub-threads.htm

  • Waiting for multiple threads?

    I'm currently writing an app which, when a user opens a GUI screen, several threads are created which go away to load data. A "loading..." message should be displayed until all loading threads have completed.
    What's the best way to implement this?

    Ah yes. I was doing that, ish, but was doing:
    t1.start();
    t1.join();
    t2.start();
    t2.join();
    But of course it should have been:
    t1.start();
    t2.start();
    t1.join();
    t2.join();
    Cool, thanks!

  • Wait on Queue from multiple

    There is a Wait on Notifier from multiple vi, can I do the same with Queue?  Any way to work around that?

    Dohhh!  You're right.
    I was just looking through the synchronization palletes the other day because I was thinking of a notification to be a part of a communication scheme I was fleshing out.  I skimmed through the wait on Multiple, must not have read it correctly, or just didn't remember it correctly.  The title of it makes me think of the way I had just written it up.  If I say "I'm waiting on 5 people" in normal English, that means I'm waiting for 5 people to each give me their information before I can move on.  So when I read of the Wait on Notification Multiple, that is the way I think of it.  In reality, the definintion is more like "I'm waiting on ANY of 5 people" so if any of those 5 give me their information, I can move on.
    Thanks for straightening me out.
    I can't think of what would be the ideal scenario for using that particular VI.  I think my most common use cases would be to use either a Queue (for a many to one, multiple data) or a Notifier (in one to one, many to one, one to many, or many to many scenario, single piece of data with those possible combinations in order from most likely to use, to very unlikely to use)

  • Serial I/O IRQ Method

    I am trying to do some simple I/O using an NI 9870 serial module in a cRIO with a NI-9014 host (LabVIEW 9, RIO 3.2.1) .  I am already using 3 DMA FIFO's for other things and was trying to pass the data in and out of the FPGA using an interrupt driven approach.  The baud rate is 57600 which if you do the calculations is ~60 characters in 15 milliseconds.  So here is what I tried and the RT Host immediately stops running after the timeout -  I realize there are all sorts of unhandled conditions in this code but it won't even eat one character....
    So here is the FPGA side - there is a pre-allocated array of 255 elements - the loop runs until the array is nearly full or a timeout occurs - at which point an interrupt is generated -
    Here is the host side - wait for an IRQ and then read the array, after that ack the IRQ -
    Am I missing something simple ?????

    Hello, is your wait function on the FPGA set to mSec or uSec or ticks? If its set to mSec then you will have your FPGA code wait 15 ms before even executing the second frame of the sequence so you will reach a timeout on the wait on IRQ every time (when set to 5 ms).
    Also, I suggest having a stop control wired to the Stop Terminal of your host loop rather than a true constant so that you can manually stop the loop and have the code complete  ( including closing the FPGA VI reference which I assume is sitting right outside your while loop. This Close FPGA Reference stops your FPGA code and cleans up the reference.

  • Wait time within a While Loop

    I was always under the impression that Wait Timers (e.g. Wait and Wait Ms Multiple) always executed last within a while loop. As I'm reading up on timing of real-time loops I'm finding that NI suggested using a stacked sequence structure to force timing to run last. Has my assumption of wait timer execution been wrong all this time or do PC and RT systems differ in how loops handle timing?
    Thanks,
    Craig

    So, ok, coming back on this.
    Attached you find a small example to show my remarks in the previous post.
    How to use it:
    The main focus is in the first iterations once "Wait now!" is pressed. So it is usually not of interest to run the "waiting" for more than 5-10 iterations.
    In order to see an "understandable" behavior, i suggest to wait at least 100ms. I configured "Time To Wait" to be at least 10 (coercing).
    The second focus is "Time Value".
    For "Wait (ms)", the "Time Value" will have any number, but increase each iteration by the amount of "Time To Wait".
    For "Wait Until Next Multiple (ms)", "Time Value" will be initialized to a value, which is a integer multiple of the "Time To Wait" and will increase each iteration to the next multiple.
    My example does not contain parallel code, so it does not show the parallelism of the waiting functions!
    Nevertheless, understanding the shown behavior is the key. Because if the code running in parallel to the waiting requires less execution time than the wait function will wait, the behavior will be exactly as shown.
    If the parallel code requires more execution time than the waiting, "Wait (ms)" is already finished and therefore the loop will immediatly continue with the next iteration (high CPU load!).
    If the parallel code requires more execution time than the waiting, "Wait Until Nexty Multiple (ms)" will wait that long that the "Time Value" is again in line to an integer multiple of the "Time To Wait" (so this one keeps on running in parallel until waiting time is calculated and over). Hence, "Wait Until Next Multiple" will still introduce a waiting time (reduced CPU load), but you will "miss complete iteration slots".
    As you can see, using a single "Wait Until Next Multiple" outside the loop for initialization can make sense if the first iteration should also have a "close to normal" execution time.
    Please note that the Timed Loop does something similar once started. As it does it during the iterations, the first 1-3 iteration(s) are called "warmup iterations". Most often, the first single iteration is sufficient for this though....

  • IRQ from FPGA delay

    Hi.
    I have encoutered a problem in my code:
    I am using a cRIO 9012 with FPGA utilize a NI 9871 4-port RS-485 module.
    My code is using FPGA code and low-level communication VI's from this example:
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/6166
    In my application i communicate through the NI9871, using the FPGA. The communication seems to work, but i am experiencing some unexpected delays.
    The delay seems to appear at the "Wait on IRQ" invoke method in "901x 9871 DMA Read (Sub)" (see attached code). The FPGA code sets this IRQ when the current operation has completed. But i am experiencing unreasonable long delays here. (10+ mS).
    I tested it without waiting for the IRQ and this gave me a delay of 1 mS on every attempt. And still i got valid data.
    So it seems like the IRQ is held longer than necessarry.
    In my application time is critical. The length of the incoming telegrams is fixed.
    Thank you for your help.

  • Precisely control timing of multiple acquisitions?

    What is the best way to acquire repetitive sets of data at precisely spaced time intervals? I'm running LabVIEW 6i on Windows NT.
    For example, I want to acquire say 500 scans at my top scan rate, process them, and then repeat this process every 10 msec. (I have to make configuration changes to my system during the dead time.) I need these data points taken at well controlled time intervals so I can make a meaningful waveform out of the data later.
    Here's what I've tried:
    1. Using a pulse train to trigger the AI Start function. When a triggered AI Start is included inside a While loop it uses all of the system resources watching for the trigger. No good. If I put in any kind of delay inside
    the loop, then NT can take away priority and not give it back until the trigger event has passed.
    2. Using a pulse train to gate the DAQ scan clock. Here I set the data acquisition for continuous acquire, but then turn the scan clock off during the dead time. So the system should only be taking data when the gate signal is high. My problem here is I don't know how to configure the AI Read function properly. Specifically, I don't know how to set the number of scans to read. If I calculate how many data points should be available and use that number, I'll often leave a data point or two in the buffer due to timing/rounding errors. If I set the number of points to read higher than the number I should have acquired, I get unpredictable behavior. Sometimes I read exactly the number of points I expect, sometimes 10 more, sometimes thousands more as it waits through multiple cycles to acquire more points.
    I'm sure there is a better way. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Craig

    How about...
    If you have precise control of the DAQ scan clock, then reading n points would be the way to go. You can request 0 points to read and look at the scan backlog to detect when the next n points are available without getting locked into an AIRead call.
    Or...
    read data all the time and just throw out the rest of the data. Set your acquisition buffer for several seconds worth of data collection and keep track of read vs skip data.

  • If i want to write something that waits for more then one thing

    how do i do that?
    if it's for one thing i'll write:
    sinchronized(a){
    while (true){
    wait();
    my_code();
    }

    He's not saying he wants to wait for multiple
    conditions. Unless I just don't understand what he's
    saying (real possibility there.):) It sounded to me like he wanted to wait for multiple things to happen.
    CountDownLatch works fine for waiting on multiple
    threads. If one thread wants to force the await() to
    end, it can force the latch count to zero. Any thread
    can also call interrupt() on the waiting thread (as
    long as it has a reference to the thread object.)A CountdownLatch set to one can also be used to wait for one of a set of events to occur. Of course you'd need further information to determine which event it was.
    The kinds of "events" can influence the shape of the solution here. Eg if you're interested in muiltiple I/O events then you need to use an I/O framework that supports a select-style operation.

    Hi,
    If you see your logs, you server has actually started in "RUNNING" mode. Its only throwing lot of "ClassNotFoundException" because I guess they classes are not available in classpaths. If you know the "jar" which contains which are being complained, copy the jar files to "DOMAIN_HOME/lib" which is simple way to add jars to classpath.
