Want to put my WRT54GS behind a WRVS4400N DMZ

Hello all,
   I've got a pretty typical setup with my DSL modem hooked to my WRT54GS, which is the gateway for my home network, both wired and not. I have received a block of static IP's from my ISP and I now want to build a DMZ in "front" of my home network. Here's what I envision:
Internet
|
DSL Modem
|
WRVS4400N V.2 (no NAT, no DHCP, intrusion detection and firewall only) static IP on both sides of the router
|
   DMZ (all static IP)
|
WRT54GS (static IP facing the DMS, NAT, DHCP, etc behind the router)
Does this look like a good design? Is there anything I need to watch for to "push" my current home lan behind my new DMZ?

OK, I have a complication (I used to know this stuff, really....) I started mapping out the IP networks and started to configure the WRVS4400N and got lost.
My ISP gave me a block of static IP's - say 1.2.3.4-19 (16 block). They reserve 3, so I get to use 13.
1.2.3.4 is reserved (probably for their router)
1.2.3.19 is reserved for broadcast
1.2.3.18 is reserved for gateway.
So I tried to set up the 4400N last night and got stuck setting up the routing. Here's a diagram:
     DSL Modem - 1.2.3.4 (internal) - this is an Actiontec GT701-WG - could be replaced with any DSL modem/router
              | 1.2.3.18 (gateway)
              |
              | (1.2.3.5 Wan port)
    WRVS4400N - no dhcp, no nat (in router state not gateway), Intrusion and Firewall on - 1.2.3.6 internal

The problem I have is that I don't get to pick the IP's that are reserved on the actiontec, and they encompass the entire IP range I've been given. I want the protection of the 4400 for my servers, but I don't see how to build a route table to form a separate cloud of 1.2.3.5-17. It's like I'm cascading three routers over only two IP ranges. Splitting the 1.2.3.x ip range into two subnets doesn't seem to work since the isp grabs both the top and the bottom of the range.
Can someone help me with the details of setting something like this up?
....Alternatively, the reason I am looking to do this is that I want to protect my home net, offer web services from my DMZ, yet be able to let my home net access dmz servers without going out and back in via the internet. I could set up two VLAN's, one for home, one for the DMZ, both using NAT on two different IP ranges (giving me 3), but I have two problems - I have several servers that I need to service internet requests (not just one DMZ PC) and I want to access the DMZ from the home net directly. If I set inter-VLAN routing on, I think I'm giving a channel for a hacker to get to my home net.
So I'd be open to any alternatives. Functionally, I don't think what I want to do is hard, but getting into the weeds of configuration has my head spinning.

Jeff based on your description and setup diagram that looks just fine. With the wrt54g on the dmz with the firewall on you will be just fine.

WRT54G behind a 2wire DSL modem

I just picked up a WRT54G to replace a old Microsoft router I'd been using as a base station for a few years. However when I run the easylink install it doesn't seem to detect the router at all. I have a 2wire gateway DSL modem going to a 8 port switch that my router is connected to (the router is on the far side of the house where I want the wireless), there are a few other PC's plugged into the switch also. I've tried hooking everything in straight to the DSL modem but nothing. Does anyone have any ideas what might be going on here? I don't really want to put the DSL modem into bridged mode for a few different reason.

you may be forced to disable the modem's firewall in order for you to get internect access. i had problems with a 2wire modem. the solution i found was to disable the firewall on the modem...

No. It is not really making sense. Why do you want to have a routed LAN? Why do you want a router inside your LAN? A router is a separating network element. It separates distinct subnets. For most home networks this is not what people want. Windows home networking depends to some extent on an connected ethernet network, i.e. a single broadcast domain. A router creates two separate ethernet networks between which you can router traffic. Most consumer routers won't allow you to configure them in a way so that broadcasts will actually cross the router.
If you have a router inside your LAN you will not be able to do Windows file and printer sharing across the router as you are used to do it in a single subnet. You cannot do workgroup browsing and name resolution across the router without a domain controller/server providing this service for you.
Also, using software which requires you do "open ports" or configure "port forwardings" are harder to configure because you may have to configure this on two routers.
Moreover, as you are having two wireless routers: wireless roaming between two separate IP subnets is not possible without reconnection. The client which leaves one access points and moves to the next one must get a new IP address as it belongs now to a different subnet.
You will only want to operate a real router inside your network if you either have a very big one and with a nice server inside or if there are specific reasons to separate the networks, e.g. when you want to run a server in the internet and at the same time prevent this server to access any other computer as you worry that the server may get hacked and used to access your LAN. Then you can setup a gateway router and connect the internet server to this router. The second router creates a second private LAN inside the first one's. This second LAN is where you connect all your other computers.
But generally, most home users don't want to run two routers in a home network. They want easy file and printer sharing. They may want to be able to extend the wireless coverage and create a roaming network.
I hope, it makes sense now why I asked my original question and you can now think more about what you actually want to do with the second router...

I have iTunes open on my computer and have chosen hen songs that I want to put ony iPod but when I click sync it loads a little bit and then everything disappears. What am I doing wrong?

You say the music is not on the external HD, the music list (iTunes?) is empty, and it is not on the iPOd. Then where is the music you want to move to the external HD?

You might want to try Reminders.
Creat a Bill Pay list, add all your bills set a reminder to repeat every month and when you pay one just check them off as complete

Ahh, thank you! What a pain in the neck. I figure I must have been signed into his account at some other point in time, maybe after... watching a movie..? [Though, that'd be the iTunes store, right? Not the App Store.] Anyway, some situation must've occured where I absentmindedly updated and iPhoto is now tied up with his account.
I'll go ahead and contact support to see if they can get me sorted. I suppose I can just ask him for his password, but.. oh, you know, it's a temporary solution and I guess I was just hoping to easily get iPhoto properly associated with myself again. Thank you!

If you sign out of an Apple ID under Settings > iCloud, you should be prompted for an option to 'Keep on my iPhone' in regards to Contacts and other related data. Then, when signing in with another Apple ID on that same iPhone, you should be prompted to 'Merge'. If you do both, then you won't lose any Contacts, and the iCloud Contacts will then be merged into the new Apple ID iCloud, but also will stay on the old Apple ID iCloud.
In the future, it might be best to post your own question thread instead of bumping a thread that is over two years old.
