What format are your sources and what are your sequence settings?  I'd guess that you're working with h.264 material which is not fcp friendly.  If so, use compressor to conver to prores422

What device?

How are you importing it?
Can you find the external audio with Finder?
Where is your destination file when you import it?

• If there ever was a NEW update for iMovie, will iMovie have the ability to burn projects onto a Blu-Ray disc so that customers don't have to pay for additional software like Final Cut Pro or Roxio Toast Titanium/Pro?

It would be helpful for those who are familier with iMovie to use Blu-Ray discs for burning and playing back their iMovie projects in HD. However, iMovie '11 doesn't have that special feature yet. I hear that 'Final Cut Pro X,' 'Roxio Toast 11 Titanium' and 'Roxio Toast 11 Pro' can copy projects like iMovie onto Blu-Ray, but it would take long periods of time to do that. Professional software, like FCP X and Toast, can be pricey.
I'm hoping that iMovie '11 will burn projects onto Blu-Ray, but will that ever come true?

Will iBlu-Ray be an upgrade? OR and update of iDVD?
If it's an upgrade, then that means you'd still pay for it from the Mac App Store. I wish it would only cost between $20-40.
If it's a free update of iDVD, but with the new name, that would be better than to go out and pay for things!!!
However, external Blu-ray recorders would still be required if you were going to burn an iMovie project onto a blu-ray disc.
Is there a way to put in a request for 'iBlu-Ray?'

• Final cut pro make Mac pro kernel panic with RAM from other manufacturers

hi all
if i installed RAM For mac Pro from 667MHz DDR2 fully buffered ECC RAM from other manufacturers
final cut pro (just final cut)
make the machine kernel panic messege
all programs working good (like adobe and other compositing program) but final cut freez the machine and kernel panic
the standard RAMs good

Ahmed:
You can try visiting/searching the Expanding your Power Mac G5 forum. You'll find A LOT of help about RAM issues.
Any RAM brand must work but you maust be sure it follows the MAc specs. Some brand sites have good product locator by computer manufacturer/model (i.e. Kingston and Crucial). In fact there is no Apple branded RAM, they use a lot of different ones.
Inside FCP settings you'll find how to manage the memory that the program use, but that settings depends on the total quantity of memory you have installed, and you didn't post that information.

• HT203477 My final cut pro is so strange. It didn't allow me to create  project then there was message popping up constantly saying that the files have been moved. this pops up more than 60 times in a minute. I don't move files as I know how to edit.

My Final cut pro is very disapointing it is n ot allowing me to create a new project. Also a strange message comes up saying that the files have been mooved or permission not allowed. It is totally a faulty message. Now it totally crashed and not allowing me to open.

Thank you Karsten. I am forwarding the spec and hope you can understand the situation.

• HT204407 App won't open... Installed it, added friends, used it a few times and now it opens for a brief moment with no options to touch and then closes

App won't open completely.  I touch it, it opens, no options to touch.  Then it closes

Try quitting it completely by double tapping the homebutton twice and closing the app at the bottom of the screen. If this doesn't help:
Try deleting the problematic app and then re-downloading the app from the app store.
You can re-download content purchased from the app store using the purchased option which is revealed by tapping the updates option at the bottom of the screen of the App store app on your iOS device.

• My Log and Transfer window is not displaying properly in Final Cut Pro 7.0.3

I installed an add-in to import files from a Canon FX-100 camera.   When I tried to work with some files that had been recorded on this camera, the left panel of the Log and Transfer screen disappeared.  Nothing that I have tried - stretching or expanding the window, restarting the Final Cut, or the Mac have worked.

This forum is for FCP X only.
You need the Final Cut Studio forum for legacy FCP.
Try trashing the preferences with this free app.
Many weird things happen as a result of corrupt preferences which can create a vast range of different symptoms, so whenever FCP  stops working properly in any way, trashing the preferences should be the first thing you do using this free app.
http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
Shut down FCP , open PreferenceManager and in the window that appears:-
1. Ensure that only  FCP   is selected.
2. Click Trash
The job is done instantly and you can re-open FCP .

• Final Cut Pro X is eating my RAM.

I'm not sure what is going on here, but Final Cut Pro X totally eats up my 20 Gigs of RAM. The background tasks window shows zero activity, and all I am doing is trying to make cuts to the footage in my timeline. After an hour, the interface is sluggish (to put it mildly) and 4 out of 10 cut actions cause the program to crash.
I even tried opening the program and doing nothing. It STILL eats my RAM up in roughly an hour.
I have opened other projects from Final Cut 7 for some kind of comparison and I have not experience the same issue. Granted they are two completely different programs.
Any ideas?

Well, my setup works sweetly with 8 GB Ram.
Here I go with the same old boring checklist . . .
If you're getting crashes, autosave problems etc, there is more than likely some conflict on your system drive.
Create a new (admin) user on your Mac system and try FCP X from there.
I did this, and FCP X worked perfectly on the new account, meaning there was definitely a conflict on my existing system.
To be absolutely certain my MacPro's system was squeaky clean, I then did a clean reinstall (not TimeMachine) and FCP X has worked reliably ever since.
FCP X application should be in your Applications folder and ideally, your project and events should all be on an external HD and not on your Mac system drive.
I have over 3700 clips distributed between five events at the moment and FCP X is coping very well most of the time.
It helps to work without the waveforms displayed as these slow things down considerably.
Do you have FC Studio or a version of FCP on the same drive partition as FCP X? This is known to cause problems and not advised by Apple.
I quote from the Apple Support Website (23rd Sept 2011).
"It is strongly recommended that you install Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5, and Compressor 4 on a startup disk that does not have Final Cut Studio (2009) already installed. Use Apple's preferred installation procedure when upgrading one version of Final Cut Pro or Final Cut Studio to the next. This procedure is not unique to Final Cut Pro X."
Note that Apple use the word "strongly" - some people prefer to ignore this, and then blame Apple for all the sins on earth.
I don't.

• HF200 and Final Cut Pro

I just purchased an HF200 camcorder for my video needs. I hook up the camcorder through usb and open up Final Cut. I then proceed to use the log and transfer function to transfer my video files. No luck nothing shows up and when I try to add the folder from my camera nothing happens. after about 5 mins of leaving the log and transfer window up my camera all of a sudden shows up and all of my videos are there and everything works great. It will do the exact same thing in imovie. You have to sit and wait about 5-10 mins before the camera shows up. I've tried this on multiple computers with the same thing happening everytime.
Not sure if there is anything I am doing wrong or if there is some settings that I need to change. But i would love not to have to wait forever for my videos to mount up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If any other suggestion on a way to get my .mts video files to my computer to edit that would help to. I'm trying to maintain exact picture quality and resoulution
I am running Final Cut Pro 6.0.5 and iMovie 08 My camera is a Canon HF200
thanks,
Josh

Hey man, Im currently borrowing a friends HF200 to see if I like it. Was up to 4am last night trying to get it sorted for use with Final Cut Pro 6.0.2. I had similar problems with it not being detected by imovie 08 or Final Cut Pro's log and transfer.
I got it working on imovie 08 after i reformatted the sd card, no delays or anything. Final Cut Pro is still no go though (which I really want, to avoid quality loss). I will try leaving log and transfer on for a few minutes and see if anything happens, like you said.
Have you got your issues sorted since you posted in June?
Cheers, Andy

• Importing issues with Final Cut Pro X. Green flash and twitches while play back

Hello, I'm having some importing issues with Final Cut Pro X and I can't find any solution whatsoever. Perhaps my importing settings are wrong?
Anyways, I've done a lot of recordings on eye TV and HD PVR with some videos that are about 3 hours long. I exported them into H.264 files, which turns them into mpeg-4 files with AAC audio. Then I import them into final cut pro X and I notice it takes a long time for them to render the videos and I notice that there are some green screens and twitches while I play through the video.
Here is a screenshot of the green screen that I'm talking about:

Could it be my 2 video graphics card that is causing this kind of issues? Or is there any solution to fix this?
In the past, I've used iMovie 09 and it worked out perfectly. However, the new iMovie 11 is terrible because it automatically optimzie my 3 hour long videos into making the importing process to (144 hours long to import). Is there any way to get iMovie 09 back or am I stuck on dealing with this Final Cut Pro X issues?
More information:
My Hauppauge HD PVR settings are set to custom. Video Constant Bit Rate, the average bit rate: 13.5 Mbps. The audio is AAC.

• Radeon x1600 and final cut pro

i installed final cut pro on my mbp and it wont run because it says that the AGP graphics card is missing...so can final cut pro not work on a mbp and is there any way of getting around buying a new graphics card? any ideas?
thanks
oh and am i missing a phone number number in their support section cause i cant find one.

What version of FCP are you trying to run? If it's prior to the Universal version (5.1), then you will have that error. Here's a fix:
1. Quit Final Cut Pro HD if it is open
2. Control-click on the Final Cut Pro HD application and select "Show package contents."
3. Open the "Contents" folder
4. Find the file "info.plist” and make a backup copy of it, just in case. Open the original with TextEdit, or another text editor.
5. Use the Find command to search for the string "AGP". Delete the line containing "AGP" and the line directly above it.
6. Save the file
7. Launch Final Cut Pro
This is thanks to MacFixit, not me. Just reposting

• Mac App store and Final Cut Pro X can a single Apple account purchase 3 separate copies of Final Cut X? Also how do we allow our editors to update FCPX, but not have access to the credit card?

I work for a medium sized compand 400+ people. We have a 3 person video crew. How does our company start an Apple account that will allow us to purchase three separate copies of Final Cut Pro X, but not allow us access Credit Card info, but still allows us to update purchased software? Surely Apple cators to small businesses needing multiple lisences. I appreciate any feedback, thanks!

I would assume that since your company has a video department, it probably also has an IT department.   Have them set up the needed account(s) and download from the App Store for you.
You should also contact Apple about a mulit-seat licensing arrangement, but those usually involve 25 seats or more.
Apple doesn't really cater to small businesses ... or any business group in particular.  They primarily cater to the consumer market.
