Web Browser needs to study Acrobat file. Allowed?

I am a new manager in a company and I have a new req.
I would be using the new Acrobat SDK 9 for this use.
I need to create a web app that would enable a client-browser to read an adobe file on the server and produce statistics as to number of pages, bookmarks, images etc.
My questions:-
1) I beleive EULA 2.3 does not allow this, but what if we buy a license for each user/computer, will it be possible?
2) Will the new product called Life cycle allow this? if not how can I accomplish this. I am not going to do anything that violates the license agreement.
If impossible then we will have to try to produce reports in MS-Word/XML instead of adobe.
Thanks
Jay

1) SDK - (your answer was no)
ME: OK as per your suggestion, Im ruling out the SDK to do this server based web application to analyze the adobe file.
2) YOU: "The LiveCycle Forms API would allow you to collect very basic statistics (number of pages, etc.), yes. You would not be able to do things like extract images remotely with the Forms API. "
ME: But will this help me work remotely from the Webpage?
YOU: You may want to consider the PDF Library SDK for your solution. It is specifically licensed for server use. You can license it from Adobe via Datalogics (http://www.datalogics.com).
ME:-
Thanks for the info but Im slightly confused on the conclusion... are you recommending the LifeCycleForms API or are you suggesting PDF Library SDK (is that diff from Acrobad SDK?).
Ok to avoid confusion, here is more info on the req, and you can recommend what would be needed. Here is the info that our tool must provide form an input pdf file:-
***** Per-pdf-file information
Document Properties:- Producer/Author, "PDF Version", "Page Size", "Number of Pages", "Tagged PDF", "Modified info",
If it is encrypted or secured?
if a password was supplied
If "Content Copying or Extraction" Allowed?
If "Content Extraction for Accessibility" Allowed?
If "Printing" Allowed?
If the PDF have bookmarks?
Results of Adobe's "Accessibility Quick Check"?
Adobe Reader / Document Properties / "Can be Opened by: "
fonts used in the document and if they are embedded in the PDF
***** Per-page PDF information
Can text be extracted?
Is page completely blank?
Is the page photo quality? (Need a way to decide if a page should be GIF or JPG when converted)
Is the page portrait or landscape?
Is the page doublewide or "unusually sized"?
Can the page be "Read Out Loud"? (Accessibility feature)
End: Application should produce an XML with all this information so we can parse it for viewing and also pull it into the next program in our process. Various results will be tagged as "error" or "warning" levels to help judge the PDF itself (encrypted but no pwd=error; everything ok but not "Tagged"=warning).
BASED ON YOUR SUGGESTION, I WILL PROCEED.

  • Air Web browser with drag out remote files

    Hi
    I'm new in AIR so I have few questions.
    I want to create my own simple web browser where users can drag out files on desktop using links on web pages instead of normal OS download system.
    I've found function which works fine when I use static url and name but I don't know method how I can actually get real url and name.
    Method:
                 addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, mouseDownHandler);
                 public var fileDown:URLFilePromise;
                 public function mouseDownHandler(event:MouseEvent):void
                    fileDown = new URLFilePromise();
                    fileDown.request = new URLRequest("http://www.example.com/file.txt");
                    fileDown.relativePath = "file_name.txt";
                    var promises:Array = new Array();
                    promises.push(filePromise);
                    var clipboard:Clipboard = new Clipboard();
                    clipboard.setData(ClipboardFormats.FILE_PROMISE_LIST_FORMAT, promises);
                    NativeDragManager.doDrag(this, clipboard);
    Can anyone help with this ??

    Until the introduction of file promises in AIR Athena, it  has never been possible to drag remote files out of an AIR application.
    You could refer to the http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/flex/articles/using_file_promises.html
    Hope this is helpful. Please let me know if I could help more.

  • Open 2 Web Browser and play a .swf File within each

    Hello,
    we are trying to implement a Screen Recording Functionality
    under Linux.
    The Recording will be done by vnc2swf. Then we have a .swf
    File with the Video.
    Now I want to play Back the recording within a Web Browser.
    That's shoudnt be the problem till now. But the difficult
    thing is that we have 2 Monitors connected to the Linux PC with
    their own display connection, therefore we get 2 .swf File each for
    each Screen.
    No I want to play back these two .swf Files each in one Web
    Browser on each Screen.
    Is this possible by programming this with Action Script 2/3 ?
    Thanks Richard

    When I go here, I can see the slide show fine.

  • FF will no longer ask me before trying to open Acrobat files, and will not ask me to save them either. How can I restore the ability to see pdf's with FF?

    I have Acrobat 6.0 Professional installed on my PC (Vista-64) and after the last FF update, it will no longer open or allow me to view pdfs. "The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser. Please exit Acrobat/Reader and exit your Web Browser and try again."
    Under "Options" I set my preference with pdfs to "Always Ask" but the documentation on FF states that it will attempt to open the file first, before asking me to save it, which basically means that it will never ask me to save it - just ask me to exit the browser and Acrobat. I have not been able to access PDF content on FF since, and will have to change to Chrome this evening, since I utilize pdf content often.

  • Unable to open PDF in Web Browser and delay for printing

    In my LAN, on several PCs running with Windows 7 (32 and 64 bits), I observe two problems with "Acrobat Reader XI":
    - Delays / unable to open pdf files in the web browser (Internet Explorer).
    - Delays in printing: for example it takes over 8 minutes to print a pdf file: 400kB for two pages (on different printers / models).
    Here's the list of actions that I've allready tried to issue those problems:
    For the Web Browser problem :
    - Repair the "Acrobat Reader XI" installation.
    - Uninstalling and Installing Acrobat Reader.
    - In the web browser, disabling and activating the add-on (Adobe PDF Reader).
    - Uninstall "Acrobat Reader XI" and install "Acrobat Reader X"
    Temporary issue: downgrade to "Acrobat Reader 9", which solves the problem with the web browser.
    For the printing delay:
    - Repair the "Acrobat Reader XI" installation
    - Change the printers drivers (install Universal Drivers PCL)
    - Check the box: "Print As Image" before printing
    Any Idea ?

    You can get that error if there is still an old Adobe Reader plugin in the plugins folder in the Firefox program folder.

  • Opening PDF in Web Browser(IE)

    Hi,
    I have written a program to download PDF file. When user will click on "Download" link, PDF file should open in web browser IE itself. Currently file is opening in separate window. I am creating this PDF file run time and it is not stored in harddisk. In Acrobar Reader, I have checked the check box "Display PDF in browser". Despite this it is opening in separate window.
    I have written following code:
    byte abyte0[] = pdfGenerator.generatePDF(getXslFile(instancedata), new String(instancedata.requestResult.message, "UTF-8"));
    httpservletresponse.setHeader("Cache-Control", "no-cache");
    httpservletresponse.setHeader("Cache-Control", "max-age=0");
    httpservletresponse.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "inline; filename=" + instancedata.userId + "_" + System.currentTimeMillis() + ".pdf");
    httpservletresponse.setContentType("application/pdf");
    String s = new String(abyte0, "UTF-8");
    servletoutputstream = httpservletresponse.getOutputStream();
    servletoutputstream.write(abyte0, 0, abyte0.length);
    servletoutputstream.flush();
    Kindly suggest what is required to open PDF in Web browser (IE).
    Regards,
    Dev

    I don't see anything wrong here offhand.
    In your download link, you aren't using target="new" or anything, are you?

  • Need web browser to submit Acrobat PDF?

    I am using Acrobat 8 - Mac. I am trying to create an interactive pdf that I will  e-mail to people to fill in a field. Then I want them to save their info and e-mail the pdf form back to me.  I've gone thru the process of creating the submit button but when I click on it to try and send it says "Need to be running inside a web browser in order to submit this form". Isn't there a way to do this w/out involving the web?
    VF~

    This is not the MAC forum. However, for the file to be sent, it has to be activated with Reader Rights to allow the save (that is when you send the whole file rather than the FDF or XML data file). There is also a license restriction on the use of Reader Rights. I suspect that may be your issue. Why not just try a data submission and have the FDF or XML file sent? When received, simply open the form and go to forms menu to import the file data. You will have the same result as if the full form was sent without the need for the Reader Rights.

  • AdobeAcrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF Files in Web Browser...what do I need to do to fix this..

    I just got Windows 7 and have been having problems since loading it. Most of my drivers only go to Vista and don't recognize 7.
    I have trying to download some manuals from their website
    and keep getting this message; Adobe Acrobat/reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in Web Browser.

    Could I suggest a workaround for PDFs until a solution is posted? Open them directly in the Adobe application rather than in a browser tab.
    In your Adobe application(s), go to:
    Edit > Preferences > Internet
    Then uncheck "Display PDF in browser"
    (There are very few sites where having PDF integrated is really beneficial.)

  • Chrome - Adobe-Acrobat/Reader can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser.

    I can't view PDF files via Chrome (it works on Internet Explorer but I prefer Chrome)  -  the error below has arisen recently on Chrome, though I can't see what has changed.
    "Acrobat plug-in
    The Adobe-Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser. Please exit  Adobe Acrobat/Reader and exit your Web Browser and try again."
    I have looked through Forum articles on similar errors and have tried the following(text copied from other Forum entries)
    Repair Adobe Acrobat (from Acrobat)
    Repair Adobe Acrobat (from Control Panel
    Configure Acrobat  as a helper application: Choose Edit > Preferences., Select Internet on the left., Deselect Display PDF In Browser Using [Acrobat application], and then click OK.Quit Acrobat or Reader
    Create a registry item for Acrobat: with Regedit: If the registry item doesn't exist on the system, do the following: Go to Edit > New > Key and create the missing HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Software\Adobe\Acrobat\Exe.Go to Edit > New > String Value and name this key (Default).Select (Default), and then go to Edit > Modify. Type the Adobe Acrobat path in the "Value data" for your product.,restart your computer
    Repair the HKCR\AcroExch.Document registry key: Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document., Right-click AcroExch.Document and select Delete; make sure that you have the correct key, and click Yes on any prompts, Right-click AcroExch.Document.7 and select Delete; make sure that you have the correct key, and click Yes on any prompts. Repair your Acrobat  installation
    None has solved the problem. However it still works ok with IE. But I want to stick with Chrome because I find IE is so slow!
    I am using Vista, with Adobe Acrobat standard 9.5.2 and Google Chrome version 23.0.1271.64 m which is marked on Chrome as 'up to date'
    Does anyone know why I might be getting this error on Chrome but not IE?

    I think I have discovered the answer to my own question!
    I have disabled Adobe Reader plug-in, and can now see PDFs in Chrome.
    (Steps: Chrome Menu, Settings option, Click Advanced Settings link, then Content Settings button, then select Disable Individual Plug-Ins, and a list of plug-ins is offered to enable or disable).
    I then get a different result depending on whether or not Chrome PDF viewer is enabled - with it enabled I see the PDF document in Chrome, or with it disabled then the option is offered to download it, but either way I can get it it via Chrome without having to run Internet explorer in another browser window.
