Web-Frontend

Hallo,
we have to create a web-based frontend over an existing MS-SQL-
Server db (only a few forms first). Now we have to decide, which
tool to use...
Oracle Developer (WebForms) seems a bit oversized for this task
and i guess it's tricky to access a sql-server via ODBC with
forms...
So has anyone used JDeveloper to access a SQL-Server and how
does it work?
Is there a JDeveloper based demo-application available anywhere
on the web?
Is JDeveloper comparable to Developer 2000 and what are the main
differences?
thanks a lot

Matthias,
The main differences between JDeveloper and Developer are:
* language support (JDeveloper = pure Java development
environment, Developer also supports PL/SQL and uses that as its
primary language)
* white box vs. black box (JDeveloper allows you to muck with
the form code that is generated, Forms allows you to add things
like triggers, but not to actually modify the generated code)
* maturity (Developer has been around a lot longer so it has
had more 'road testing', JDeveloper is only on version 2)
JDeveloper is not intended as a 'replacement' to Developer,
rather as an alternative depending on your needs.
You can use a JDBC driver to connect to pretty much any
datasource. If the driver is not provided with JDeveloper, you
can add a vendor's driver to the environment to use it.
The demos we have internally here are geared towards an Oracle
datasource. Perhaps someone else out there has developed against
SQL-Server and can provide some more input on that side.

  • Simple Web Frontend for existing Java app

    Hi there!
    (sorry for my english at first ;)
    I have an existing java app which currently is used via command line. It's a server application which mostly does monitoring outputs and functions you can use in the shell are like starting/stopping the server. For these outputs and for starting/stopping and so on i want to create a simple web frontend which gives me the ability to do this.
    What do i need? It would be fine if i do not have to set up a large tomcat server because the program should run out of the box. Of course i want to access the website via the internet (simple login). The whole thing would be about 2-5 simple pages. Best thing would be if i could update the monitoring variables via java script.
    Can i use servlets (not much experience with it so far, that's why i ask :) )? What do i need for the webserver? Can i access my data variables from right from the servlet?
    Thanks in advance,
    kiwaque

    If you are familiar with Swing, I would suggest GWT for the Frontend... you can build and debug the Frontend similar to a Swing App, and then compile it to HTML/CSS/Javascript...

  • Information broadcasting scheduling from web frontend

    hi all,
    i want to initiate the process of executing information broadcasting while clicking a button on my web frontend(BPS-web).
    i mean after clicking on a button on frontend ,the button is linked to some function module and that function module in turn executes broadcasting.
    can anyone suggest some solution.
    thanks,
    ajay

    The Web API allows you to call Broadcasting using a URL Web API Command:
    <SAP_BW_URL CMD='START_BROADCASTER ' SOURCE_OBJECT_TYPE=’DP’
    SOURCE_DATA_PROVIDER='DP1' START_WIZARD=’X’ DISTRIBUTION_TYPE=’MAIL’>
    You can call this using javascript and have a button that kicks off the broadcasting dialog.

  • Can we open an excel attachment via web frontend of SRM

    Hi friends,
      I am sending an excel attachment using the function module 'SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_ATT_SEND_API1'.I am able to open that in SAP Inbox(SBWP).I want to know whether we can view that attachment when if it is accessed via web frontend of SRM(It will be accessed via internet service BBPBWSP_SIMPLE, and not as much via transaction SBWP in SAPGui), but the details of the attachment need to be visible from both places.
    Regards,

    Most probably You can access this from SRM Portal.
    It would be good if you could post this in SRM Forum they would have given the answer by now.
    <i>Here is a shocker, how about try it yourself to see if it works. I think trying it yourself would have taken a lot less time than posting the question and waiting for an answer.</i>

  • AUR web frontend sources URL problem

    Sometimes the $pkgname is different from source package tarball filename, so it is necessary to use a different variables.. For an imaginary foo package, with sources available at http://foo.org/foo-linux-1.2.tar.gz , the PKGBUILD fragment may look like
    pkgname=foo
    pkgname0=foo-linux
    pkgver=1.2
    source=('http://foo.org/$pkgname0-$pkgver.tar.gz')
    unfortunaly, in such case, the AUR web page points to a wrong sources URL: http://foo.org/foo0-1.2.tar.gz . It looks like the frontend thinks that the source URL must contain $pkgname, and is doing simple string substitution, not interpreting the PKGBUILD as a shell script.
    Is there already a working way how to form the PKGBUILD, to avoid this sort of problem ?

    thanks for the review.
    If you look more carefully at the openssh patch, it is not implementing anything new, openssh has an infrastructure for using hardware engines (engines.h), but is not used by default somehow, the patch is just enabling it. Anyway, I'm not creator of the patch, is it taken from Michal Ludvig's site (http://www.logix.cz/michal/devel/padlock/) , some of his patches have also been accepted in linux kernel.
    But I understand, this is very sensitive package..

  • CRM 5.0 - B2C Internet Sales  - Ggeneral questions on web frontend

    Hi
    We are in the very early stages of putting in B2C and B2B in the company.
    ( just putting pen to paper for blueprinting )
    Currently our B2C is done via third party software and not integrated with SAP.
    The marketing dept can easily switch over images on the home page of the shop ( eg free shipping in Dec,  10% of certain products, etc etc )
    We have 2 questions that we are struggling to get an answer.
    1/ Does the SAP shop have a simple mechanism for marketing to change the
        promotion images on the front page.   Or will we need IT do control this?
        There are normally at least 6 promotional images on at any one time.
        ( Sometimes a promotion image may only last 1 day )
    2/ Let's say we have one image  600x100 pixels. with three seperate
        promotions, or links to the brand sites -  ( left, middle and right )
        Can the Sap shop handle multiple URL links within an image?
    Thanks in advance - and points always rewarded.
    Scott

    Hi ,
    The one solution I can propose for changing the promo images on front page is by keeping a static page with your product links and upload in some location of the server without a deployment.You have to add some javacodes that can pick the static page for displaying on the place of home page.
    Other solution is that, you should keep a particular category itself with promo images to display on the home page and the homepage to be modified to call this category.

    Now I want to be able to access the same web application from the other web front end servers what shall be done. I have tried to add alternate access mapping but i found that i only have 5 alternatives (Default, Intranet, Extranet,Internet and Custom) while
    I need to access it from 8 different sites with the IP or name.
    Can anyone tell me what is the best practice for that.

  • Using WebI with SAP BW Data - Best practice for introducing BW Accelerator

    Hi,
    We have a significant investment in using BOE XI 3.1 SP2 integrated to SAP BW 7.0 EHP 1 SPS05.
    Now we intend to introduce BW Accelerator to improve the data fetch performance for the Adhoc (WebI) Analysis and the formatted reports built using WebI (Infoview).
    Data handling in question is approx. 2 Million+ records for each WebI report / adhoc analysis (20 to 30 columns).
    The solution could be BW Cubes --> BW Accelerator --> BW Queries --> BO Universe --> WebI using Infoview
    Does it really help in introducing the BW Accelerator like the case described above ?
    Understand that the BW Accelerator could improve the performance of the underlying data and hence the BW Queries do work faster; but does it really improve (9x to 10x) performance for the MDX Queries generated by the BO Universe ( BOE XI 3.1 SP2 ) & WebI.
    What is the roadmap for the future wrt BW Accelerator and SAP BI BO Integration; if we intend to use WebI ?
    Or should be migrate to BO Explorer as the front end for Adhoc Analysis ?
    Is BO Explorer able to present 1 Million + records with 20-30 columns ?
    What is the best practice / better on performance; as an integrated product / solution ?
    1) BW Cubes --> BW Accelerator --> BW Queries --> SAP Integ Kit --> BO Universe --> WebI
    2) BW Cubes --> BW Accelerator --> ??? --> BO Explorer --> ??? --> WebI ???
    3) BW Cubes --> BW Accelerator --> ??? --> BO Pioneer --> ??? --> WebI ???
    4) BW Cubes --> BW Accelerator --> ??? --> BO Explorer
    5) BW Cubes --> BW Accelerator --> ??? --> BO Pioneer
    6) BW Cubes --> BW Accelerator --> BW Queries --> SAP Integ Kit --> Crystal Reports (to handle above data volume)
    7) BW Multiproviders --> BW Accelerator --> BW Queries --> SAP Web Analyzer (to handle above data volume)

    Hi,
    We have a mix of Adhoc Analysis (60 %) and Formatted Reports (40%). We selected WebI as the tool for the purpose & used it for requirements which process approx. 2M records. We faced bottleneck issues on performance (we are on BO XI 3.1 SP2 & SAP BW 7.0 EHP1, SP05).
    We are further analyzing possibility to introduce BWA; if this can handle similar record processing & still preserve our investment on OLAP Universes, WebI, SAP Integration Kit & training users on WebI frontend.
    I see a lot of documentation suggesting "BO Explorer and BWA" - understand that BWA would improve the DB time and BO Explorer would help on the Front-end / OLAP time.
    Request your guidance on the road map & continuation of investment using BWA + WebI.

  • Open source web chat

    Hello
    I want to integrate open source web chat with cisco contact center !
    Please let me know the procedure

    For SME escalation or customer-facing chat queueing? Assuming the later you need CCX 9.0 Premium with SocialMiner to serve as the DMZ-based web frontend and XMPP proxy. Be aware that chat is a 1.0 technology for CCX in this release; very basic.
    Web Chat:Cisco Unified CCX Premium provides the facility for end users to initiate a chat session with the agent, from a website, typically the public website of the organization using the Unified CCX. Unified CCX provides separate agent and supervisor web application, real-time, and historical reports for Chat. The chat functionality requires Cisco SocialMiner to be deployed, and SocialMiner to act as the endpoint that hosts the widgets that end users and agents use during the chat session. SocialMiner accepts the chat request, communicates with Unified CCX to allocate an agent for the chat and then establishes the chat session between agent and end user. The Unified CCX queues the chat requests from SocialMiner, allocates agents, and monitors the chat session. Additionally, it facilitates agent state changes and provides the real-time and historical reports for the Chat.
    The procedure is not well documented publically. If you're a partner you could look at these TOIs:
    https://communities.cisco.com/docs/DOC-30185

  • Beehive enhancement of the day: furthering the Zimbra Web Client

    With the decision to leverage Zimbra as Web frontend for its collab server, Oracle has surely provided a powerful web client to all of its Beehive customers.
    To my knowledgs, product management has no current plans to further enhance the web client, nor to deploy future versions of Zimbra on top of Beehive.
    There are quite a few enhancement requests pending for Zimbra. Here are my favourite ones:
    ER 12570523: NEED OPTION TO SELECT TEAM WORKSPACE CONTACTS FROM NEW EMAIL COMPOSE WINDOW
    ER 8817293: UNABLE TO MOVE A PERSONAL WORKSPACE FOLDER INTO A TEAM WORKSPACE LINK IN ZIMBRA
    ER 10634736: SUPPORT FOR MOVING FOLDERS BETWEEN PERSONAL WORKSPACE AND TEAM WORKSPACE
    ER 9901377: ZIMBRA SEARCH IN LINKED FOLDER IS NEEDED AS SUPPORTED FEATURE
    ER 11890869: SUPPORT OF ZIMBRA MOBILE WEB CLIENT
    If you agree that Oracle should revise its decision not to further develop the Zimbra web client, please second these enhancement requests through Oracle support.
    Thanks, Tom

    yesterday I used Beehive Zimbra with Android mobile for the 1st time (our policy does not allow external IMAP),
    and I was brought back to the impression that Beehive would definitely benefit from the implementation of
    ER 11890869: SUPPORT OF ZIMBRA MOBILE WEB CLIENT
    Even with Quarter HD (960, ×, 540) resolution you cannot properly operate the classic Zimbra web client without getting crazy!
    Please, all: do consider seconding this ER in MOS!

  • Workspace studio IDE Vs OSB Web Console

    When to use OSB Web Based console and when to use Workbench studio - what are pros and cons - and what is the benefit of one over the other.

    From a developer perspective we have chosen for the approach of using workshop and deploying locally. We still have a development server to do some more thoroughly testing. But there are some limitations when using a single development server for all your developers, you can for example have only one debug session/connection. More than one person deploying all their code changes (with bugs) directly on one server will not be a very workable situation either.
    When you use workshop you have a environment better suited for developers. You can use a code respository to checkin/checkout your project. Editing your message flows is much user friendlier. In the web frontend this is not an easy task. When you edit a flow in the web console you need to do this within a session. When you are developing this does not work very nice. You want to do your changes more quickly and not to be slowed down by this kind of things. The web console to my opinion is better suited for administrators and configurators.
    Of course there are some disadvantages to the workshop. For plain development of the services with limited additional requirements to implement concerning security and so on it works. But some more complex configurations can only be done in the web console. For example if you want to add basic authentication to a business service I could only do that in the web console. I currently do not have a list of all these things. But if you look at the editable fields etc. in the web console these are more extensive than in workshop.
    Futhermore the workshop is sometimes a little buggy. Copying project and resources does not always work. It crashes sometimes and I even had colluegues that corrupted their project just using the workshop. I have not experienced that yet. So expect to run into some weird unexplainable behaviour once in a while. Restaring workshop or deleting your local server and creating a new one usually fixes a lot of these problems.
    Last but not least it is not known (to me) yet what will happen to workshop in the (near) future. It is still supported in the 11g version but I expect oracle will try to get everybody use JDeveloper. So bug fixing in the workshop might be not their number one priority. So it could also mean that workshop will not implement all new features of OSB in the long run forcing people to siwtch to JDeveloper in the end. But that is just a thing I am guessing as I am more of an eclipse fan than a JDeveloper fan ;-) The web console will always be there so if you do not want to invest in learning workshop it is the safest choice. But developing in it and versioning your code in a respository becomes more of a challenge.

  • Open a BEx Analyzer Workbook from a Web Application Template

    Hello All,
    I want to open a BEx Analyzer Workbook from a Web Application Template.
    My vision is, that I have got a Button in my Web Application Template and when clicking on
    it a Web Analyzer Workbook opens. The Analysis Item in the template and the Grid in the workbook are based on the same DataProvider. So you can open the report in web or in excel, but the people shouldn't open Excel separately when they use the web frontend.
    I only found an export function, but this doesn't open a workbook. I couldn´t find a good solution here as well...

    All-
    Is it possible to use the BEx Web frontend, ie we would like the same functionality for users to save data selections to a variant for subsequent resuse, to pass values to a VC application without having to develop a completely custom solution?  We have been looking at JDBC, but is there an easier way to provide the functionality to users to save their filter values in VC?
    If so, please provide some tips.

  • Using CS6 for web mockup creation? Tips on how-to's

    Hi
    Pretty new to Photoshop and running CS6.
    I'm looking for a workflow to create web mock-ups in the most efficient and easy way.
    What Im looking for is to take an existing web frontend page and tweek it with new sections and components like buttons/menus/new text areas,images etc etc....
    are there any specific tools or "web galleries" to use for this purpose that I can incorporate into CS6....not really sure how to form this question in the right way but I hope this sort of exaplined my purpose....creation of good-looking web page design (even if it will jsut be in .psd format)
    Any help, tips & tricks would be appreciated.
    Thanks!
    //Helmut

    A web gallery is many web pages you need more then a layered template psd. Templates are more suited for Collages rather then web Galleries.  In the bridge output module there are some caned web galleries provided by Adobe there just not very good or a not easy to customize.
    There are many web gallery creation tools available on the web some free other cost. If you do a search you will find many. Some use Photoshop in the process they are Photoshop Scripts. Most have some options to customize some features. None that I know of give you complete freedom to create whatever you want. They support their web gallery designs where you can customize features within the designs.

  • JavaEE 6 Web presentation technologies and designer tools

    Dear forum members:
    among the modern, component- or action-based Web frontend technologies for JavaEE 6, such as JSF 2.x, Wicket 1.4, Tapestry 5.x, GWT 2.x, etc.:
    1. Which do better support a clear separated desgin(er)-vs-programm(er) workflow (where designers can independly use tools like Adobe Dreamweaver for their HTML, CSS and JS/jQuery)?
    * Are the component- or the action-based frameworks more appropriate for this? Why?
    Info: The essential requirements for us would be a separated design workflow and the usage/integration of already existing jQuery components.
    Thank you very much for your clarifications.
    Best regards
    Sebastien

    Oh, come on! I whether didn't ask anyone to read the materials in question for me nor to do any other "research" work!
    I just wanted to get at least some -- optimally experienced-backed -- recommendation on which of the techs in this "bunch" won't fit the given req anyway, if any (and I'm quite sure that there're some, e.g. JSF), so that I can leave these techs aside for the deeper treatment/study ... and here you're right ... to hopefully decrease the in any case big study extent a little bit.
    Of course, I read concept-introducing articles a priori, from whose descriptions Wicket seemed more appropriate for this purpose compared to JSF2; but as I wasn't completely sure I decided to ask more experienced users.
    So in your eyes, what would a more specific question on this issue and with this initial/direction-giving intention look like??? ...especially for the following one:
