Web Services without using the API

Hi. I'm new to Web Services. I've been able to call a web service and get my result back without using the Web Services API -- easy enough. My question is this.... the concept of web services has been around for a long time... longer than the web services API. Can I not write a simple servlet it Java that would function as a Web Service without having to use the Web Services API.
For example,
Calling XML:
<action><delete>jdoe</delete></action>
Servlet recieves this as a stream, deletes the associated ID and returns:
<action><result>Success</result></action>
or
<action><result>Failed</result></action>
This seems to me like it would be pretty generic stuff (not requiring the API) and pretty basic (not very large).
Can anyone head me in the right direction with this or provide an example?
Thank you.

Can... Servlet is very powerful to write the web services...

  • How we can limit the number of concurrent calls to a WCF service without use the Singleton pattern or without do the change in BizTalk Configuration file?

    How can we send only one message to a WCF service at a time? How we can limit the number of concurrent calls to a WCF service without use the Singleton pattern or without do the change in BizTalk Configuration file? Can we do it by Host throttling?

    Hi Pawan,
    You need to use WCF-Custom adapter and add the ServiceThrottlingBehavior service behavior to a WCF-Custom Locations.
    ServiceThrottlingBehavior.MaxConcurrentCalls - Gets or sets a value that specifies the maximum number of messages actively processing across a ServiceHost. The MaxConcurrentCalls property specifies the maximum number of messages actively
    processing across a ServiceHost object. Each channel can have one pending message that does not count against the value of MaxConcurrentCalls until WCF begins to process it.

  • How to Execute a Web Template Without Using the Cache?

    Hi All,
    I am trying to execute a webt emplate to determine performance and optimisation. The trick is that the web template starts using the cache. Is there any way to turn off the cache for the web template? Maybe using a URL parameter or something?
    Thanks in advance for any assistance provided.

    Hi,
    You can do it thru RSRT, choosing HTML, the query and the template, then in the menu you have to check the box dont use cache, aggragates and BIA.

  • Problems creating a web service that uses the report generation toolkit

    Hi,
           Im trying to develop a web service using labview 2013.
    I create a html form that is correctly communicating with my labview method and part of the web service functionality is to create a report from the data obtained in the html form published.
    I realized that using the report generation toolkit inside of the web service method the server cannot generate a report. ( If I run the same Vi before publishing the web service it works on the server but it doesnt work after I deploy it)
    I thought that maybe Im unable to use the report generation toolkit VIs inside of the web service because Im not incluiding the (dynamic VIs labview uses when they run), I tried to add the excel dynamic library to the proyect but with no success.
    I also tried to use VI SERVER to call a VI that generates the report using the report generation toolkit  in the method that runs when the web service is call but  it doesnt work either.
    How can I deploy a web service able to use  the report generation toolkit ?, how can I deploy a web service able to use VI server ?
    Any help is really appreciated.

    The issue you are running into is actually a limitation intended by Microsoft.  They don't want windows services to be able to call into the ActiveX interface for Microsoft Office for security reasons.  If you are deploying your web service to the NI Application Web Server on Windows you will run into this problem since the web server is a Windows Service.
    While I haven't tested this, you may be able to work around this by packaging your Web service with a LabVIEW EXE rather than deploying to the NI Application Web server.

    Hi,
    for future search:
    this happens if the related application is not running. On 700 you can check it in the deploy service of the Visual admin.
    Perhaps the deployment was succesful but due to various reasons the application could not be started (or died in the meantime). This case it won't show up in the list of /wsnavigator.

  • How to return List or Array from Web Service without using ADF?

    I would like to know how to do this before I use ADF. Sounds like a simple thing to do - common even - but I haven't found a solution in existing postings. My attempts have failed though I'm not sure exactly why.

    Gi,
    not sure what you are doing there, but you can build the J2EE WebService from your working POJO, and create a Web Service proxy class from the WSDL description (of the deployed or local WSDL file). Then, using the proxy class, you can access the output of the WebService.

  • $25 Reward - Calling a CFC via Remote Object or Web Service without making the result public

    I am just getting into Flex 2, so please forgive me for my
    newbe vocab.
    Here is how my applications have worked in the past, i.e.
    ColdFusion:
    <cfscript>
    //Create an instance of component
    order = CreateObject( 'component', 'PEK.Catalog.Order' );
    //Call methd
    theOrder = order.getOrder(1234);
    </cfscript>
    Display the order via HTML and CFML.
    getOrder() returns a query and 1234 is a sample orderID. The
    most important part of the solution I am looking for is that the it
    must not expose my getOrder() as a public web service. I am able to
    run the application with WS by making the mothod URL visible and
    remote, but this is no way near the security I would like to have.
    Here is my folder structure where components folder has been maped
    to CF.
    Application
    |__extentions
    | ... |__components
    | ... ... |__PEK
    |__wwwroot
    I guest there should be a way to call CFC with the thing
    remote object that I have no idea how to set up. So please what
    would be a solution to my security issues.
    Thank you in advance!

    Here for Link to Article
    I guess this article answers part of the question. It is very
    important to note that if the CFC is sitting on the same server as
    the CFC the component methods could be public and not remote, thus
    making it alot more secure.

  • Programming Weblogic with jmx without using weblogic api?

    Hi,
    I want to know if it is possible to program weblogic management service without
    using weblogic api but just rely on standard JMX interface and methods.
    Currently, I am relying on weblogic api weblogic.jndi.Environment and weblogic.management.MBeanHome
    interface to get the context and access the MBean Server subsystem. Can I find
    the equivalent using jmx?
    My code is as follows:
    Environment env = new Environment();
    env.setProviderUrl(url);
    env.setSecurityPrincipal(username);
    env.setSecurityCredentials(password);
    Context ctx = env.getInitialContext();
    MBeanHome home = (MBeanHome) ctx.lookup(MBeanHome.ADMIN_JNDI_NAME);
    String domain = home.getDomainName();
    homeServer = home.getMBeanServer();
    Thank you.

    Hi Ryan,
    I have looked through the documentation.
    It told me that I need to use weblogic.management.MBeanHome interface to get MBeanHome
    and from there then I can only use jmx interface.
    I presume it is not possible not to use weblogic.jar if I want to establish the
    initial connection with Weblogic server?
    Thanks.

    Q3: How does using the xsi:type attribute affect interoperability?My thought is that since this is not commonly used, then your risk of
    interop failure is high.

    And finally,
    Q4: Are there any examples available demonstrating the use of the xsi:type attribute
    in messages?Sorry, I looked and could not find any examples.

  • Help: Creating web service proxy using JAXB generated domains

    Hi,
    I'm currently doing some investigation considering the use of web services (BPEL) as a complete application backend.
    The application should contain a pojo facade which communicates with some web service proxies. By making a datacontrol
    of the pojo facade, I'm able to expose methods to the client layer.
    I generated my domain objects by using the JAXB Compilation option in JDeveloper. By using that, a java class can be generated
    based on an XSD. Disadvantage of this use, seems to be the fact that the ObjectFactory class, generated by JAXB, is overwritten
    each time I create java classes from an XSD.
    Q1: Is there a solution to prevent the ObjectFactory class to be overwritten? I also could decide not to use it.
    After the domain objects are created, I want to call the actual webservice and receive the response by using the JAXB marshaller
    and unmarshaller. Problem here is:
    Q2: How do I (manually?) create a proxy which calls the web service, by using the domain objects generated by JAXB?
    Q3: An important requirement is that it needs to be simple to switch from several environments (eg from development to test). How
    can I fulfill this requirement in a nice, solid solution?
    Any tips working with web services as the backend layer are welcome!
