Can any one help me in getting the correct xml mappiing for using filters
Currently i am getting 404 error when calling any resource
using the below mapping

As the messages tries to suggest, the elements under <web-app> must appear in a specific order. In particular the <filter> elements, if any, must appear before any <session-config> elements. That isn't the case in what you posted so it fails validation by the DTD.

after that i called this startup servlet class in other servlet taken this getRssFeed()

There can be init params for the servlet or for the servlet context. For the servlet, this looks like:

For a servlet context init param, you define it as you did using the web.xml settings editor:

Automate creation of web.xml file for tomcat 4.1.29

hi , this is with ref to Tomcat 4.1.29, if i am correct, each Servlet in the application has to be mentioned in the web.xml file for the Tomcat to know about it. Is there any way to automate the creation of web.xml file , depending on the contents of the Servlet folder of the application. Any way to escape from writing each Servlet name in web.xml file.

Where to save web.xml file in apache jserv with servlet 2.0

we are using apache jserv which included servlet 2.0 we are able to run .class files and
jsp files,but we are using web.xml file for connection pooling which we were used in tomcat
but we are unable to find web-inf folder in apache/jserv to save the file.
please help me out in this problem,
please guide us is there any other method of connection pooling apache jserv,we are using backend
as oracle9i

Help! web.xml security without using WAR files

I'm currently using the RDBMSRealm and URL ACL security for my app. I would like to use the web.xml descriptor for security so that I can specify login pages and such. We currently are not using WAR files. I've been having alot of trouble setting this up. Is there a way to use the RDBMS realm along with the web.xml security? It looks like it should work, but I can't seem to get it to function. How do I specify the regular document root as a webapp? I'm currently running WLS 5.1 with SP4. Thanks.

The RDBMSRealm is just the authentication mechanism underneath WLS versus the
web.xml of the WebApplication which describes all the access control for that WebApp.
the later being scoped only to that WebApp.
you don't need to deploy in a war file, you can expand the archive into an identical
directory structure and then just point us towards the top level of that structure.

Can i run a servlet without a web.xml file for servlet mapping?

The code i want to run compiles and everythink looks ok.
It produces the .class file.
I run Tomcat 4.1 and i build my Web site with Dreamweaver.
I have a form in a page and i want to send the data upon form completion to a database i already have build with MySql.
The database is up and running and the server is set-up ok.
I have changed the port in Tomcat to run on port 80.
The directory i have my site is
Tomcat41\webapps\ROOT\se
and the directory where i keep the servlet class is
Tomcat41\webapps\ROOT\se\WEB-INF\servlet
I have a web.xml file to map the servlet and placed it in
Tomcat41\webapps\ROOT\se\WEB-INF
In the Form action i write action:"/servlets/Classes/GroupRegistration"
and I RECEIVE AN 404 ERROR FROM APACHE.
Somethink is wrong .

Tomcat41\webapps\ROOT\se\WEB-INF\servletOthers have pointed out that "servlet" should be "classes", but there is another mistake that hasn't been spotted. If you want your servlet to appear in the root context, you should use:
Tomcat41\webapps\ROOT\WEB-INF\classes
If you want your servlet to appear under the /se context, then you should use:
Tomcat41\webapps\se\WEB-INF\classes
and also, in the latter case, your form action should be /se/myGroupRegistration.

Virtual-mapping in jrun-web.xml file for CFIDE is not working

I have put virtual-mapping for my web root into jrun-web.xml
file. It looks like this:

i did some some changes in Account dimension in my Planning Dev server. When i was migrating it to QA using LCM in shared services it is howing this error: Import failed for the following reason - Error parsing the deployment xml.
First i define migration in Dev for export and the migration was successful.Then i went into QA shared services and started migration, i got this error for importing.

Mapping in XML has an advantage of having a proper DTD for validation, which would be known to all. It serves as a common standard irrespective of the server you use.

Web.xml configuration for initial servlet load

I am having some problems with the same issue although specifying the load-on-startup param is not working for.

I know the app is reading the right web.xml because i put in a bad value and saw the error being outputted in the startup log.
There are some servlets being initialised on startup but not the ones I want. These servlets don't seem to be in the web.xml.

Web.xml mapping not working

I have a servlet located at com.conversion.web called leftNavReader.java
I'm trying to access this servlet on my localhost with the following URL: http://localhost:8080/Conversion/start
but I keep getting this error:

Since the spaces may cause problems and I have
everything in the My Projects directory, I decide to
just start from scratch. Very good.
But... someone else
installed eclipse for me and set that up, so I may
need some help with that, not sure if you can help.As far as I know Eclipse can also be Unzipped to any folder, and
theres a file called eclipse.exe , one would simply double click on that to invoke eclipse. I don't think you would have to re-install Eclipse.
You could create a new project, and set
C:\dev\projects\Conversion\ as your Eclipse Workspace .
But lets put Eclipse on hold for now, we can still configure this whole project manually without Eclipse, which will help you understand what's going on under the hood. Also, in the beginning it's simpler to configure independent of the IDE.
So I recommend that you save your work, uninstall
Tomcat 6.0.x and re-install it on a path thatdoesn't
have any spaces in it.
For example:
C:\dev\tomcat\ So I've uninstalled tomcat and re-installed in
c:\dev\tomcat as recommended...Good, I assume that immediately under C:\dev\tomcat\ folder you see folders like bin, conf, webapps etc

Similarly , follow the above steps to set JAVA_HOME to C:\dev\jdk
Also, under System Variables you may see a variable called Path
If it doesn't exist , then create a new one, if it already exists then add the following to the Path variable. (notice how the semi colon is used as a separater)

By setting the above you will be able to call
java , javac and Tomcat's startup.bat and shutdown.bat from anywhere on the DOS Command line.

Once you have the project runnun under Tomcat we can figure out Eclipse.
and I figure I might as well set up my
"new" project using Virtual Hosts from the beginningLeave Virtual Host for later ------ it is easy to understand , I will explain it later , once you have the above basic set up running.

Web.xml problem and using of FrontController Pattern

I use FrontController pattern and created servlet ControllerServlet.
I want that when users open my site (for example mysite.com) all requests goes to controller? and even when users enter diretc path to jsp or servlet all requests were sent to ControllerServlet.
in my As I read in "Java Servlet and JSP CookBook" for this I have to write in web.xml file such code:

But now I have other problem. How I have to call my jsp pages? When I use RequestDispatcher and forward reques to jsp pahe login.jsp, I have error because this request again redirects to controller.
PS For calling servlet I have solve of this problem I just have to add to web.xml file security-constraint element for needed servlets.

You really shouldn't have to map all urls to your ControllerServlet. Set the welcome file in the web.xml to open index.html and in index.html use JavaScript to direct the page to the ControllerServlet. Now as long as you only do RequestDispatcher forwards (no sendRedirects), all hyper links point to the ControllerServlet and all form actions point to the ControllerServlet you are okay. The reason is that the user will nevr see anything else in the browser address other than the ControllerServlet url and should never know the url of any other JSP or Servlet to request them directly.

Tomcat web.xml "display-name" using flex.messaging.MessageBrokerServlet

When my web application starts with the BlazeDS servlet flex.messaging.MessageBrokerServlet defined in the web.xml we have an error because in the display-name defined at top level in web.xml we have some text containing character ':'. The error is traced to inside the function
         flex.management.BaseControl.getObjectName()
Which gets the object name, and this function calls
   BaseControl.getApplicationId()
which finally calls
ServletConfig.getServletContext().getServletContextName()
This will return or display-name from the web.xml with all it's text. This text contains among other characters the character ':'. We use this tag for the display in the Tomcat Manager to see version number and other of deployed project.
After retrieving this name it is appended in the getObjectName() function to a buffer, this StringBuffer that already contains flex.runtime. and now this name is appended (still with all that we are using for Tomcat Manager with ':' character and other). After the name, other things are appended. Our problem is that, after constructing this StringBuffer an instance of javax.management.ObjectName is created. In it's constructor it takes a String name as input. This String is parsed in base of characters ':', '*', '?', '\n' and so on, and since we have some of these characters in our display-name it all goes wrong.
   My question is, if this is a bug, a limitation or if it is documented that using flex.messaging.MessageBrokerServlet we can not use certain characters in the display-name of the web.xml?

I have found that this is a bug and there is an issue open at the "Adobe Bug and Issue Management System", BLZ-617. I don't know if work is in progress, but when that issue is closed the problem will be solved.

Tomcat 404 error until I apply this change to my web.xml mapping

What is the purpose of the /servlet/ portion of the url-pattern in the servlet mapping element below.
If I use the first few lines I get a 404 class not found error
If I include /servlet/ in the url-pattern element then my app works fine ?????

If the first mapping doesn't work and the second mapping works then my guess is that neither mapping is working. What may be happening is the invoker servlet may be enabled and that would explain why the /servlet url works.
The invoker servlet is set up in the conf/web.xml file. This servlet will invoke a particular servlet using the class name and the /servlet url. In newer versions of tomcat the invoker servlet id disabled by default.
Now the question is why does the servlet mapping not work? What version of tomcat are you running? Can you post the entire web.xml?

XML Question for web.xml file for LiteWebServer

I have no clue of wut tags are required in the web.xml file.
Currently the following code is in my web.xml file and i am trying to run servlets that are located under web-inf/*.class
Pls tell me wuts wrong....
Do i need those mime-mapping tags, session and welcome tags.......... ?
Right now i just want those 2 servlets to work
And wut is this encoding ="UTF-8" in the first line of the xml file. Wut does that do... ? ARe there any others
