Weblogic 6.1 and -Djava.security.manager license failed

I just tried to run (under jbuilder6), weblogic 6.1 sp3 (evaluation) and I have
got a :
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ License Exception $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Unable to start WebLogic Server !!
Null public key
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ License Exception $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
The VM parameters I use are :
-ms64m -mx64m
-Djava.library.path=C:/bea/wlserver6.1/bin
-Dbea.home=C:/bea
-Dweblogic.Domain=cyradeladomain -Dweblogic.Name=name
-Djava.security.policy==C:/bea/wlserver6.1/lib/weblogic.policy --Dweblogic.management.password=xxxxxxx
-Djava.security.manager
-Djava.security.debug=failure
Did I missed some VM parameters ? What should I do to bypass this error?
thanks!

I'm getting the same problem running weblogic 7.0 with sp 1.
Any other ideas on how to solve it?

• Security manager enabled w/o -Djava.security.manager

Hi all,
I am facing an issue where java.policy is being enforced w/o a -Djava.security.manager specified on the command line.
from ps -ef | grep java, I found the java process and it does not have -Djava.security.manager. However, when I modify jdk/jre/lib/security/java.policy, I can see the effect of the security setting when I restart the java process. I scanned through the source code, I do not find any setSecurityManager() API call either.
Given the above, does anyone have suggestion on how the security manager is enabled in this case?

• WebLogic 6.0 and NT security – HOW?

WebLogic 6.0 and NT security – HOW?
Info
- Windows NT 4.0 SP6
- WebLogic 6.0
- JDK 1.3
The WebLogic instance is running as a service under the system account, c:\bea\wlserver6.0\bin
is in the path.
We have several Primary Domain Controllers, so we made a NTRealm entry per PDC. We
rebooted the server.
Now, I would expect to see the NT users and groups in the security tab but I only
see the filerealm users and groups. Is this normal that they don’t show up?
I understand that you have to use the NT Admin tools for creating users and groups,
but I would expect to SEE them in the security tab.
We created an NT group BEA_TEST on that machine and we would like to give only members
of that group access to our application. (See files below.) It doesn’t work.
If we create a filerealm group it works fine, NTRealm not.
What are we missing here?

I just downloaded and install trial (evaluation) version of Cisco Security Manager 4.3. In supported devices list I saw Cisco Catalyst 3750 and 4510R but when I try to add it I got for 3750:
Invalid device: Device is a switch and cannot be mapped to a Generic Router model.
Please verify the selected device type, OS version and device configuration
For 4510R:
Invalid device: Version 03.03.00.SG (N/A) is not supported for the device type of Cisco Catalyst 4510R Switch Please verify the selected device type, OS version and device configuration
We need to make a purchase decision but for it we need to import all of our devices and perform some tests.
Thanks in advance for your replies!

I figured this out on my own -- change Compatibility mode of the installer to be Windows 8 (which is same OS version as Windows 2012) and it installs just fine.

• License Exception using security manager w/ WL 6.1 SP 3

I am running WL 6.1 SP 3 on Solaris 5.8 w/ jkd 1.3.1. I am trying to use a security

I removed the invalid license, and now get a different error:

Having looked at ticket S-15389, I used java utils.myip java utils.netAddresses

address mapped to the server name was the same in the license file.

• WebLogic Admin Console won't work with java security manager enabled.

By just enabling the security manager on the command line with -Djava.security.manager and using the default weblogic.policy in the server/lib directory, the admin console will not work. I just see a blank page when I try to access the admin console with permission errors all over on the server console.
In looking at the admin console's weblogic.xml it should have access to everything since it contains:
grant {
permission java.security.AllPermission;
Are there known issues with this? If I add this permission to the weblogic.policy file everything works fine but then I might as well not turn on the security manager.
Thanks,
Dave

David,
I was glad to see your post regarding WLS 9.2 and the troubles with enabling Java Security Manager.
Were you able to learn any more on things like - why doesn't the admin console work when the security manager is enabled with the default policy file. Also, why is it so difficult to add permissions for your own applications and get them to actually work.
I'd be curious to see if you were able to get it to work or if you have any insights or resources that can help with this as we are really struggling to get a restrictive policy file that works.
Thanks,
D

• Custom Security Manager or Security Event Interception from WebLogic Console

Hello,
I have built my own Security Manager and implemented custom preference/property mechanism for every Principal, so when I use my Swing client to create new User and new Group, as well as addMember to a Group, I know what to do with those properies/preferences.
Now, I want to use WebLogic Console to manage users and groups. I want to intercept events in my Security Manager about new User or Group creation or changing their memberships as Principals in order to handle their Preference/properties stuff myself...
I wonder what should I "listen" in order to understand that someone has changed membership of Users or Groups or about creation of new User or Group?
I use Weblogic Server 6.0 sp2
serge

Hi Daniel,
> a custom security manager for the standard CM Repository
And this dictates you indeed to use the old API, as the CMRepositoryManager itself is using the old API.
The standard AclSecurityManager is implemented by com.sapportals.wcm.repository.manager.generic.security.AclSecurityManager. If you check out Configuration - Content Management - Repository Managers - Security Manager, you will see "ACL Security Manager" (the one from above) and "ACL Security Manager (for new Manager-API)". This is implementing / using the new API, but needs also a RM using the new API.
> java.lang.NoSuchMethodException: MySecurityManager.<init>
This exception only complains about a missing constructor!? Have you implemented a default constructor?!
> If this is the case, where can I find the API for IUMPrincipal? It is not included in any provided API because of deprecation.
The methods of the old EP5 user management are more or less similar to the new UME, so using the old deprecated API should be more or less straight forward.
There are also transformer methods for example to transform a "new" user object to an old EP5 one, see https://forums.sdn.sap.com/thread.jspa?threadID=235656&tstart=0
Hope it helps

• Security Manager and RMI

I am developping an application that uses RMI.
So in the code i must declare the RMISecurityManager as the security manager. But if the user specify the standard security manager on the command line it dont works.
I understand why, because my question is :
How the user can ensure that my application is safe if he cannot specify the basic security manager on the comnd line ( -Djava.security.manager ) ?
tom

First of all, you don't have to use RMISecurityManager as the security manager at all. It's a legacy class from Java 1.1. times that the RMI tutorials continue to refer to, see this thread:
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=58&thread=161874
Secondly, it is tricky but Java 2 allows a security manager to be set more than once -- it all depends on whether the currently installed manager allows to be replaced [RuntimePermission("setSecurityManager") permission].
Finally, if you expect that the user will define a security policy through command line, all you have to do is code something like this:
if (System.getSecurityManager() == null)
System.setSecurityManager(your_security_manager);to set yours only when nothing was set on the command line.

• Weblogic 4.5 and Visual Cafe 3.1

Hi,
I am having a problem integrating Visual Cafe with Weblogic.
Specifically, it involves getting the Weblogic classpath modified to support
setting up a connection pool to an Informix database. If I start the
Weblogic server manually, I can set the server classpath appropriately to
find the Informix JDBC driver and my pool is setup properly.
However with VC, it starts the Weblogic server from the IDE and I have
not been able to get the addition classpath entries to find the Informix
driver. Is there a way to add additional classpath entries so that when VC
starts Weblogic it will find my JDBC driver? Or do I have to start the

If you don'y use the symantec debug VM, it stands to reason that the debug

• Help! Unable to Start - weblogic.policy - (Linux) and WLS 5.1

Does this hold true for NT as well? The comments in the weblogic.policy file read:
// If WebLogic is not installed in a root directory, you must only

• PROFILING WEBLOGIC (OptimizeIt/JProbe) and AccessControlException

Platform: SunOS 2.6 - Weblogic 4.5.1 SP5 - OptimizeIt 3.0 Profiler - JProbe
Profiler
Hi there:
I'm trying to find out where some slowness is occuring in our application,
and therefore running WebLogic through a profiler.
However, whenever I try to start the process through a profiler, I get the
stack trace below.
Has anyone tried running their WebLogic setup through one of these tools?
If so, have you encountered something like this?
Thanks in advance,
-joe

Hmm, I'm not sure why it isn't working for you. I had to make a modification
for optimizeIt to work though to the weblogic.policy file. Make sure you add
in full access to the directory optimizeIt is installed in, as well as
granting access to weblogic itself. If you still have problem, I can email
you my OIS file for optimizeIt and you can hack it to use your own paths and
so on...

Hi there Hani,
Thanks for you reply. When you say the java invocation parameters, Iassume
you mean
the -Djava.security.manager -Djava.security.policy==weblogic.policylines.
>
I've fed these lines into the OptimizeIt Java arguments, but to no avail?
I'm also making -Djava.security.policy== point to a fully qualifiedlocation
rather than a relative one.

You need to specify the security manager for weblogic. Just copy and
paste
the java invocation parameters from the startWeblogic.sh script. I'vebeen
able to run weblogic with both JProbe and OptimizeIt on Solaris.
