Webservices as datasource in OBIEE

How can we use Webservices as a datasource at RPD level in OBIEE?

Above solution is basically retrieving the data from OBIEE reports using webservices in the other application but my requirement is just reverse of this which is mention below.
There is a webservices published by third party which returns following output.
Brand Amount %Share
LG     12     10
SAMSUNG     15     15
NOKIA     25     25
RELIANCE 12     12
Now,the requirement is how can we consume above webservices as a data source in the Repository (RPD Level).

Using webservice as datasource, don't get any fields

I am trying to use CR 2008 using a webservice as datasource. To test this I tried some webservices from www.webservicex.net, like this wsdl: http://www.webservicex.net/country.asmx?wsdl
I am trying to use the method GetCountries.
I am able to connect and I get a "table" named "GetCountriesResponse", but I only get two fields one named GetCountriesResult and another named internal_id. If I browse the "GetCountriesResult" field I see it contains the XML data from the webservice.
What can I do to get this working?
I also tried another webservice and same thing happened.

I am pretty sure the XML generated is correct. It is a well-known service and I have tried some other as well. The XML looked fine when I looked at it.
Know any public (simple) web services to test with?

MarkLogic Server as a datasource in OBIEE

Does anyone know if its possible to connect MarkLogic as an XML datasource into OBIEE?
I've looked on both the Oracle and MarkLogic sites, and searched the net, but their doesn't seem to be an awful lot of info.

you omly have to drag and drop your star schema in the presentation area in the administrator at the left.
you hava 3 sections.
physical,there you imported your tables from sql server.(right one)
bussiness,there you drag and drop the desired tables from the physical and you make your star schema(middle)
presentation,there you drag and drop the desired tables you want to be appeared to the user in the reports from the bussiness.(left)

Developer's need to know things: Essbase as datasource for OBIEE

I am in a project where Essbase is the datasource. I know nothing about Essbase but I an experienced OBIEE prof. Can anyone tell me the things I need to know about integrating Essbase with OBIEE, using Essbase cubes in obiee. I looking for some basic fundamentals of Essbase so I could successfully use Essbase cubes with OBIEE.
I find lot of materials online but not sure what I need to know for using Essbase as datasource for OBIEE. Any insight / links would be of lot of help. Thanks a million

Configure webservices as datasource for coherence

Is it possible to directly configure webservices as datasource for coherence. So that after a preconfigured period of time, the cache refreshes itself. If yes samples/ documentation for the same.

you can do almost that, but not exactly that with out-of-the-box features only.
You can use the refresh-ahead feature of the read-write backing map with which a get to a key will cause the refresh of the entry value from the cache loader which will be seen by the subsequent get to the same key.
Alternatively you can schedule your own periodic processing with some timer which fetches data from the backing storage and it puts it into the cache.
A mix of the two would be to have the periodic processing issue the get requests which trigger the refresh-ahead behaviour.

XML datasource in OBIEE

We are trying to setup a dashboard to show data from some webservice. The webservice returns data in xml format which does not meet the requirements of the obiee xml gateway component. So we created a cgi app that preprocesses the xml file returned by the webservice before import it into the physical model obiee. The cgi app looks like this http://someserver/test.cgi.
The cgi app returns the data in a html page which contains serveral xml islands (<XML id="123">...</XML>). The Admin Tool is able to import the physical layer schema from it and create one table for each xml island found in the result. It appears to me that we don't have control over the names of the table generated and they are default to the name of the cgi page plus some index number, in this case, the tables names are "test_0", "test_1", etc. Any change to the table name will cause the presentation layer widget to report errors like "couldn't find table <sometablename> in http://someserver/test.cgi loaded".
We can settle with default table name generated. But we need to be able to pass some parameters to the cgi app to generated data dynamically which obiee seems to have problem. Whenever we use a url like "http://someserver/test.cgi?target=data" to import the schema (the data returned by this url is exactly the same as the previous url without the target param), the Admin Tool will report something like "Some objects are not imported because of Invalid names".
I saw from the obiee documentation that the xml gateway adapter supports dynamic xml/html generated from a url which can have parameters containing even session or repository variables. But I even couldn't get it to work with a constant parameter. Can someone tell me what I have been doing wrong? Or pointing me to some examples that take dynamically generated xml data as data source?
BTW, we have obiee server running on a linux rehl5 server and we use the admin tool from a windows machine to manage all the metadata.

You can't use XML data sources for Init Blocks, it's not supported. I wish it was because I had a need for this the other day.

How to do LDAP/OID as datasource in OBIEE

We have a requirement to read data from LDAP in the repository and expose the imported structure to business model and inturn in presentation area. So that we can create simple OBIEE report using the LDAP data.
1. How to add LDAP as datasource/database ?
2. How to define the driver's for LDAP ?
3. Is that possible to have thrid party datasource definition, how to get it listed in the "Database" ?

Error generating/activating WebService BW DataSource

Hello,
I created a BW DataSource using WebService in BI7 and I got the following errors when trying to activate it.
Error generating Web service /BIC/CQZBRSDAT00001000
Message no. RSDS301
Error when activating DataSource ZBRSDATA WEBSERVICE
Message no. RSO404
Could anyone please advise for any inputs/tips for the issue? I found below two threads but the OSS Note 913944 appreantly does not exist anymore (not sure if it is being removed, updated, etc).

Essbase as datasource in OBIEE 11G

Hi Experts,
We have OBIEE subject area which has Essbase cube as a data source. We have a time dimension in essbase, same we have imported in rpd and defined the chronological key as well.
However we are not able to use between function in the time dimension at OBIEE level.

Public webservice as datasource, oracle database as destination

Hello,
So: there is some public webservice I need integrate with: http://www.granica.gov.pl/Services/czasyService/granica.wsdl. I need to set this webservice as data source with my odi project. What is the simplest way to do this? Is this possible to create dataserver/model from wsdl and set this as source in my interface?

It really depends on what you plan to do and which products in the stack you're going to use for what. If you intend to use Essbase as an aggregation layer to speed up you analysis, then you should look into learning more about fine-tuning your Essbase applications in terms of data loads, aggregation, optimizing calculations,...in terms of languages MDX and MaxL.
If you're looking to integrate applications like Workspace as well then you'll have to look at those as well.
Both areas are vast in terms of applications and functionalties so I'd suggest learning the basics and then deepening your know-how according to needs.

I think Webservices understand the xml format, so I would suggest to look for the workaround using XML.
You can import xml using xml odbc drivers.

Not getting data in OBIEE report while pulling columns from different DB

Hi All,
I am creating a report in OBIEE 11g which uses Table A and table B which are joined in both physical layer and BMM layer. But somehow I am not getting any data in the report where as data is actually present for the matching joining columns. However when I made one of the tables (Table A ) as a driving table, I am getting data but only with a filter applied in the report which restricts the data to few records. If the filter is removed, I get an error which is " A Drive Table join exceeded the limit of XXX backend database queries".
Could anyone tell me what can be the issue? Other than using driving table, is there any alternate method to resolve the issue?

The error is due to the setting MAX_QUERIES_PER_DRIVE_JOIN in the database features table that controls and tunes driving table performance.
