    It is parsing the NMEA0183 text strings returned from the GPS receiver via the serial port and displaying the information.
    I am not sure what you are referring to at the bottom of the diagram page. The sequence structure in the lower right with the trig functions is displaying the satellite lock info on the satellite map.
    The set button sets the PC's clock to the satellite time using the System Exec to run a batch file called Timeset.bat
    The small while loop executes until it has a full NMEA 0183 sentence then the 'string subset' primitives strip out a portion of text from the sentence that identifies the type of sentence. It then matches the type of sentence to the various types possible (All the pink string stuff at the top). Depending on the type of sentence, it then passes the string to the appropriate part of the diagram where it is further parsed and converted to the relevant type of information.
    For example:
    The sentence for time, lat, long etc. from a Garmin45 must start with a $GPRMC in the string. All sentences start with '$' (and end with -). The '$' is stripped by the while loop, then a match is found between the first 5 bytes of the string and 'GPRMC'.
    The first 2 characters, 'GP', identify the talker. GP indicates global positioning system (as opposed to 39 other possible talker devices, icluding depth sounders, voyage data recorders, Loran C, etc. The NMEA standard identifies the means for different marine equipment to communicate with each other.)
    The next 3 characters, 'RMC', identifies the type of sentence. RMC is indicative of the "Recommended Minimum Specific GNSS Data". This identifies the structure of the information contained in the sentence.
    That particular structure is:
    $aaRMC,bbccdd.dd,e,ffff.ff,g,hhhhh.hh,i,j.j,k.k,llllll,m.m,n,o*pp
    where,
    aa = 2 character talker identifier
    RMC = Sentence formatter mnemonic code
    bbccdd.dd = Universal Time Code of position fix
    e = status (A=valid V=receiver warning)
    ffff.ff = lattitude
    g = lattitude North/South
    hhhhh.hh= longitude
    i = longitude North/South
    j.j = ground speed in knots
    h.h = course over ground, degrees True
    llllll = date (mmddyy)
    m.m = magnetic variation, degrees
    n = E/W
    o = mode (A,D,E,M,S,N or V)
    * = checksum delimeter
    pp= checksum
    = sentence terminator (ASCII 13 + ASCII 10 character)
    Important: I don't know if this sentence explanation actually is a byte count (as the author is parsing) or an explanation of the data format within the ","'s. Ground speed is identified as x.x knots, which would seem to indicate that 9.9 knots is the fastest if it is a byte count. On the other hand it may indicate that ground speed is a fractional representation between the nth and the nth+1 comma. As I stated in my earlier post) my receiver uses a Rockwell binary protocol (which is a lot more fun than this text - NOT!!) but my OEM software definitely reports ground speeds faster than 9.9 knots.
    Anyway you can see where the author is parsing this information for the RMC sentence type, based on byte position in the string, directly under the case statement for setting the PC's time.
    As written, er wired, it appears that the while loop continually processes the last received data for each sentence type each time it receives any new sentence and executes, regardless of whether the data for that type of sentence has changed or not. i.e. if a different type of sentence is received the old RMC sentence will again be parsed from the shift register where it is stored. Several types of sentences are identified and stored in their respective shift register but no parsing is performed and no information is gleaned from them.
    There are many types of sentences and some manufacturers have additional sentences identified as proprietary for additional info.
    Given this information you should be able to examine your received data for the basic GPS information. Note that my Delorme Earthmate receiver transmits some info (sentence types for NMEA 0183 receivers) on a regular basis while some is received only intermitently, so don't assume that what you are seeing coming in from the serial port is all that you will ever see.
    Hope this helps. Good Luck!

  • What does the "search" button actually search?

    You had an OTN article a couple weeks ago about using vim in SQLPlus. I wanted to look at it again.
    So I type "vim" in the search box and hit it. Two useless and apparently unrelated results are found. So I hunt for it myself and find the article: "Vimming in SQLPlus". Why didn't the "search" facility find it?
    Just out of curiosity, I type "vimming" as my search key and get no results.
    Are OTN articles exempt from OTN searches?

    Hi Bill,
    Apologies for the delay in responding to you.
    I can only comment on the Search link available on the OTN documentation homepage (http://otn.oracle.com/documentation/index.html), and not the Search Icon located at the upper right of each OTN page.
    The search link peruses only those items available on Tahiti - e.g. Database, Collaboration Suite and 9i Application Server. The Tahiti format is akin to a Documentation Library CD, so will return hits for only items listed on Tahiti.
    If you refer to items not on the Documentaion pages, please refer to an alternative feedback forum.

  • What does it take

    Hey guys
    I have iCaht AV 2.1 and a Powerbook g4 etc etc and I am trying to set up a chat with my Dad in Australia on an IBM thinkpad running Windows XP and AIM Trillion or whatever it is.
    What does it take to ACTUALLY have a 2-way Video chat coz NOTHING we are doing is working.... I have read REAMS of stuff on this forum - Ralph has established my computer can actually recieve and send both video and audio... but it just will NOT work. What is the BEST modem and broadband provider here in the UK and in Australia???
    What does it take to actually make it work???
    If nothing works - I want my money back from buying a completely USELESS iSight to do this..... It would be easier to book satellite time and use a flyaway kit complete with crews either end than to try to use this to have 2-ways......
    AAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
    G4 PowerBook 1.25gHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Among the reams, have you looked at Mac Video Chat with PCs?
    Both of you should test with others. You can find some robot ("Autoresponder") and human Buddy Names for iChat Test here if you need them. Testing will help you find whose system needs the most attention.
    Since you have now apparently connected with Ralph, it seems your computer can connect. Has your Dad tried others? Perhaps the problem is at Dad's end. If so, the list of things for the PC to check in my link above should be helpful.
    Check your Broadband Speed. Some Australian broadband can be on the slow side. Therefore, if your Dad already subscribes to the maximum bandwidth that is available from his Australian ISP, he should be particularly careful that his AIM "Video Quality" is not set too high (as explained in the "Mac Video Chat with PCs" link.)

  • What does cost mean in execution plan?

    What does a cost increase actually mean compared to the decrease of data that has to be processed?
    More details:
    I have 3 tables:
    - users
    - transaction types
    - user transactions
    I'm joining user transactions with transaction types for a particular user and aggregating some result from the transaction type table.
    Originally there was no index on the user transactions table containing both the user_id (on which is filtered) and the transaction id. This lead to a TABLE ACCESS and joining a lot of data for nothing. I created an index to contain both fields so that no more TABLE ACCESS is needed. It indeed reduced the amount of data to be merged and aggregated considerably, but the COST of the query went up! This I don't understand. (the query itself did not seem to take more/less time).
    What does a cost increase actually mean compared to the decrease of data that has to be processed?
    Below are the two execution plans:
    Execution plan with low cost and table access.
    0 SELECT STATEMENT Optimizer=CHOOSE (Cost=51 Card=1 Bytes=33)
    1 0 SORT (AGGREGATE)
    2 1 HASH JOIN (Cost=51 Card=283759 Bytes=9364047)
    3 2 TABLE ACCESS (BY INDEX ROWID) OF 'THIRD_PARTY_TRANSACT
    IONS' (Cost=2 Card=448 Bytes=8960)
    4 3 INDEX (RANGE SCAN) OF 'X_TP_TRANSACTIONS_USER' (NON-
    UNIQUE) (Cost=1 Card=448)
    5 2 INDEX (FAST FULL SCAN) OF 'X_ISP_TRANSACTIONS_TRID_FIN
    AL' (NON-UNIQUE) (Cost=4 Card=63339 Bytes=823407)
    Execution plan with only index join but high cost
    0 SELECT STATEMENT Optimizer=CHOOSE (Cost=272 Card=1 Bytes=28)
    1 0 SORT (AGGREGATE)
    2 1 HASH JOIN (Cost=272 Card=3287 Bytes=92036)
    3 2 INDEX (FAST FULL SCAN) OF 'X_TP_TRANSACTIONS_TRID_USER
    ID' (NON-UNIQUE) (Cost=21 Card=3287 Bytes=49305)
    4 2 INDEX (FAST FULL SCAN) OF 'X_ISP_TRANSACTIONS_TRID_FIN
    AL' (NON-UNIQUE) (Cost=4 Card=63339 Bytes=823407)

    when oracle parses and optimises a query it creates several execution plans and assigns a cost to each plan.
    It then uses this cost to compare these plans.
    But you can't use this cost as an indication of how "heavy" a query is, nor can you compare the costs between different queries.
    It is only a value used internally by oracle.
    greetings
    Freek D

  • What does the Service Connector do, in technical terms?

    Hello,
    My client is implementing SAP for the first time, and we're setting up the SAP remote support infrastructure (SNC over Internet).
    The security team is concerned with the step where the Service Connector is run on a PC to open the network connection (if not already open).
    I understand the Service Connector is downloading the stfk.oez file from SAP Support web site, and then executes an RFC call through the SAP Routers.
    But question is - what does this RFC call actually do, technically speaking? Is it actually making some configuration changes in the SAP Routers? If so, is there any security mechanism in Service Connector preventing an unauthorized person to make a configuration change remotely on the SAP Router(s) ?
    Or is the Service COnnector merely "pinging" SAP support backbone in order to "kickstart" the connection? I can't imagine why this would be required, normally you don't need to estblish a "network connection" in this way.
    Or is the RFC call creating some kind of "RFC tunnel" (??) between SAP Router and SAP support backbone, that will allow SAP to access and reuse the very same RFC connection thread with their different protocols (SAP Gui, telnet, whatever...)
    I've read all dokumentation at service.sap.com/access-support and e.g. related SAP notes e.g. 35010.
    Nowhere is it explained what the Service Connector actually does and what is meant by "open network connection".
    Another way to ask this question is:
    - In SAP Support web site only an authorized person can configure the "service connection" and define a time window when SAP can access the systems
    - Why is there a second step needed to open the "network connection", initiated from customer's PC. Why is this step required at all?
    Anybody out there who can elobarate on an answer for this?
    Thanks,
    Lars

    Hi Lars,
    Would the information in the link below help you?
    https://websmp208.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700002294272006E
    From what I understand, the only thing that Service Connector does is to "give the approval and the connection parameters" to your local SAP Router to initiate a network tunnel between your local SAP Router and SAP's SAP Router.
    I hope this helps.

  • Database Table Resource - What does it actually do?

    Hi,
    I want to know what it actually means to grant a database table as a resource to a user in IDM.
    For E.g.: When I provision a NT resource to a user using IDM, it means that a Windows NT account is created for that user.
    However, when I assign a Database table as a resource for a user of IDM, it does not create a user account for that user.
    I am using mySql, and I have assigned a DB table as a resource for a new account. However, I find that such a user is not created in mySql. What does that mean? How then does this user access that database table?
    I was under the impression that a user account would be created in mySql having privileges for that table. In effect, a SQL statement like "Grant all privileges on <tablename> to <username> ".
    Thanks in advance.

    If you want to create or edit mysql users, you would use the MYSQL resource adapter, not the Database Table adapter. The database table adapter is designed to manage rows of a table within the database. Neither allow arbitrary SQL to be excuted, but you could make SQL calls via express in your form or workflow.

  • What does AverageOfChildren aggregate function in SSAS 2005 actually do?

    Folks,
    Have any of you been playing around with SSAS 2005 to have worked out
    what the AverageOfChildren aggregate function actually does?
    I was expecting it to do the equivalent of a simple AVG() with a GROUP
    BY in SQL, but it seems to be doing something additional to that.
    No-one in the team I work in has been able to work out what exactly it
    is doing.
    Any info would be appreciated!

     Aggregate Function Average of Children does not work
    This behavior could occur because
    AverageOfChildren,FirstChild,LastChild,FirstNonEmpty and LastNonEmpty are
    semi-additive and treats the Time dimension different from the other
    dimensions. Please refer to the following link for details:
    http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms175356.aspx
    The description in above link (BOL) is not very clear about
    AverageOfChildren, and I have forward this feedback to the proper channel.
    The AverageOfChildren only applys when aggregating via Time dimension.
    Actually, when you try to create a new measure in cube, when you select
    usage, you could see "average over time" which is for AverageOfChildren.
    To get the result of average behavior you want, you may want define a Sum
    and a Count measure, then create a calculated measure (in the cube script)
    which divides the two base measures.

  • TA27500 What does " copy to play order " actually mean?

    what does it even mean?

    In iTunes you can sort playlists by various fields easily but when you copy the playlist to a device the tracks will be ordered according to the Play Order.
    If you select the leftmost column of numbers as the sort column then iTunes should reveal the current play order. You can drag tracks up and down this list to rearrange them or, having used one of the other column headings to sort things, right-click on the playlist name and use Copy to Play Order to set the default order for this list when copied to a device.
