What formulas will do a Lookup Sum

I searched for the answer to this question, but I wasn't successful narrowing down the search to find the answer.
I have two tables. The first is a detail table. Here's an example.
Account type Account Balance
Income Acct1 100
Income Acct2 150
Income Acct3 200
Expense Acct4 300
Expense Acct5 200
Table two is supposed to show totals.
Account type Total balance
Income 450
Expense 500
I'm looking for a formula for Total balance that will sum all of the rows in Column C in the Details table where the Detail table's value in Column A matches the Summary table's value in Column A.
Can Numbers do this?

Yes it can do this.
=SUMIF(Table 1 :: $A,$A,Table 1 :: C)
Replace "Table 1" with the name of your detail table in the two places in the formula.
