What Happened To My "Backspacing" Delete Key?

I can no longer delete things that I have typed by hitting the delete key, (it turns out my arrow keys are no longer working either...) is there a setting that got changed for the bluetooth keyboard in the last update? I mean the keys still work, just not rationally. The arrow keys scroll the webpage I'm on, but do NOT move the cursor...
I don't even know if this is a safari update or snow leopard, it kinda all happened so fast.
Anyone else? Is there a fix coming or setting I can change back to make it function properly again?

HI,
Try re-pairing your keyboard with your Mac. Make sure the batteries are fresh.

  • Vim and the backspace/delete key...

    Hi folks,
Whenever I'm editting a file in vim the backspace key, rather than removing the preceding character, adds a '^?' character instead. The delete key on the other hand behaves like the backspace key should.
Can someone remind me on how to establish normality please...
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi again iBod,
The answer to fixing vim is described in :help fixdel. Entering something that looks like the following in your vimrc will cause the delete key to behave like 'x':
    set t_kD=^[[3~
However, the part after the equal sign, '=', is a mnemonic for <ESC>[3~ and can be entered in vim or the shell with the following key sequence: (much like in the stty command)
    <Control>-v,<Delete>
where the <Delete> key is the one you want to map. This is more or less a general principle. <Control>-v "escapes" the character that follows it, causing it to literally be printed into the terminal window. All you have to know is to what "action" (here t_kD) to map it.

  • HT204476 So what happens if I accidentally delete the Migrated Aperture Library?

Just read the Help note on Apple's site about how Photos doesn't actually take up additional space on my hard drive. To be honest, that wasn't clear to me when I was looking around my Pictures directory this morning and I almost deleted the original Aperture Library.
    What happens if I do?

I think I misread your question.
The way In understand it is that the hardlinks when associated with multiple folders result in more than 1 folder referencing the same files - so long as 1 folder is referencing the items the original files do not delete - where are they? - I suspect to the user that is hidden and if you get rid of Aperture library the original files stay somewhere in the file system but remain associated to the Photos library.
I agree for those of us who worry about things like this there's a concern we'll inadvertently delete originals, but I believe TD's advice is correct.
Either way, I would probably make a backup of any library I was about to delete to an external drive plus/minus Time Machine to be on the safe side.
Unless you really need to delete Aperture library might be as well just to leave it and ignore it until you're happy Photos does what you need.

  • What happens when I press DELETE on a video in the camera roll on the iPad 2

What happens to the video in the camera roll on the iPad 2 when I press DELETE

Actually, I think that to a certain extent, iiCloud does support video storage - for backup purposes anyway. Maybe I am splitting hairs here or it's simply semantics ... Copied from Apple's iCloud backup and restore overview....
You get 5GB of free iCloud storage for:
Photos and videos in the Camera Roll
Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)
    App data
    Home screen and app organization
    Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
    Ringtones
    Visual Voicemails
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4859
So if the video was in the backup - and you restored the iPad from that backup, then the video would be retrievable .... But only by restoring the iPad from a backup that contains the video.

  • What happens if I click "delete backup" in order to delete the iCloud backups from my sisters phone off my device. Will it delete everything on her phone?

So a while ago when I got my phone I started a new Apple ID account/ iCloud.. Then when my sister got a new iphone I gave her my id to use too. In settings-general-usage it says that my storage is almost full. I then click on manage storage and it shows my phone and my sisters phone and how many gb or whatever. Also it says "last backup failed" and other stuff that's Irrelevant. Now when I click on my sisters phone I have an option to "delete backup" MY QUESTION is if I click the delete backup button will it just delete the iCloud backup off my phone OR will it totally delete everything involving the backup off my sisters phone forever??? Please help! Thank you so much!!!!!

Deleting a backup deletes the backup only from the iCloud storage, not anything on the iPhone.
The iPhone's iCloud backup will be updated at some point - automatically when the iPhone is connected to an available wi-fi network while connected to a power source unless the iCloud backup is turned off on the iPhone.

  • TS2755 What happens if I accidentally delete messages

So i accidentally deleted messages of me and my best guy friend and i tried restoring my phone hoping they would come back but they didnt. is there anyway to get them back

Unless you had those messages in a backup, there is no way to restore them once deleted. You can try looking into third party computer programs that might help but there is no official Apple way.

  • Difference Between the Two Delete Keys

I am brand new to the Mac ecosystem. Having loved my iPhones for the past two years, I have been wanting more Apple. So this past Friday, I purchased the Mac mini. Thus far, I love it, but there is a lot to learn since I have been living in Windows/Microsoft my entire life.
I am currently in the process of exploring and setting up my Mac mini, and, for some reason, iTunes decided to duplicate portions of my library. I'm not sure why, as there is no rhyme or reason to the particular files that were duplicated; either way, I think I have that issue under control.
However, when I tried to delete some of the duplicate files from the directory with the delete keys, nothing happened. With some research, I discovered that Command-delete was the necessary keystroke. It still did not work because I was trying to use the delete key next to the end key; I then tried the 'backspace' delete key, and that did the trick. So, I am wondering what the difference is between these two seemingly identical keys.

    wyldoxz wrote:
So, is there any reason why Command-delete(backspace) will delete a file, but Command-delete(forward) will not? My lifetime in Windows has made me accustomed to certain keystrokes (I am heavily keyboard-orientated).
Yes, they are different keys. Pressing one generates the key code that is tied to the delete shortcut. The other generates another key code which is not tied to the delete shortcut.

  • Backspacing/delete problems.

I'm still having problems when entering text. I've noticed it in browser test boxes like this one I'm typing in now, as well as in the Mail client. Backspacing (DELETE key) will stop working at seemingly random times. I can delete by selecting with the mouse; after that the key usually works normally for a time. I remember reading a post that suggests going to System Preferences/Keyboard/Keyboard Shortcuts and clicking on RESTORE DEFAULTS. If this works at all, it's only temporary.
I run Software Update on a regular basis. My browser is Safari (5.0.3 (6533.19.4)), Apple Mail client (Version 4.4 (1082))
    Any ideas?

    That's the correct result.
Repairing the permissions of a home folder in Lion is a complicated procedure. I don’t know of a simpler one that always works.
Back up all data now. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to its present state
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    chmod -R -N ~
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. When a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) appears below what you entered, it’s done. You may see a few error messages about an “invalid argument” while the command is running. You can ignore those. If you get an error message with the words “Permission denied,” enter this:
    sudo !!
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
Next, boot from your recovery partition by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the recovery screen appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, enter “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A Reset Password window opens. You’re not going to reset the password.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

  • Layer Styles and using Delete Key PSE4

    Hello,
Slowly getting getting to know PSE4, will take more time. Finding lots of tips here in this forum and other similiar forums and sites.
    Have two quick Questions:
    1. It was mentioned "Jodi's Spedia Layer Styles". Is this a tutorial or actual styles? More info on this would be appreciated.
    2. When doing the last stage of a vignette, I had to use the backspace or delete key. I found this out by reading in this forum. Where is that documented in the Help? Is the backspace/delete key the only way, or is there a menu/mouse click also?
    Using XP Pro SP2
    TonyC

Hi and thanks everyone for the replies. I will have to take another look in the Help Section, I looked everywhere and could not find that shortcut listed. Maybe I was looking for Backspace, and should be looking for Delete.
I will be contacting Jodi shortly via email.
Am confused about the "Adobe Photoshop Elements One-Click Wow by Jack Davis, ISBN 0-321-30468-3." Is this a book? Doing a web search all I can find is a book. Can someone send me a good link for more info on this. If actual styles and layers, will it work in PSE4?
Something else: Please don't take this the wrong way, but I like to know is the subscription worth getting? I'm 50/50 on getting it or not.
    Thanks again!

  • What Happens if I Buy Apps but Don't Install Them on iPhone?

I have a number of Apps I'm not using that are taking up screen space on my iPhone. Can I uncheck them in iTunes? Then what happens? Are they deleted from the phone? Do they continue to update in iTunes? Can I check them later and re-install them?
I depend on my iPhone so much I didn't want to experiment and possibly lose something I might need later. Thanks for your help!

    Hello, Welcome to discussions
*Yes you can un-sync the Apps from an iPod Touch or iPhone and they will be in iTunes as long as you have copied them into iTunes.
*From here iTunes will inform you when there are updates for those Apps, You can update them in iTunes and then sync this updated App back to an iPod Touch or iPhone.

*They are not deleted from the iPhone if you sync them as in gone forever. But they are un-synced and can be synced back when you are ready for them again.

  • Backspace and delete keys not working in LS?

Hi all, I was tutoring a co-worker on the basics of LiveCycle Designer, and ran into a very odd problem.  Neither the backspace nor the delete keys work in the application.  In order to delete text or a cell, she had to resort to using "Cut."
Moreover, when she tried to create a drop-down list, she was not able to click the "+" sign in the object palette in order to add items to it...it was as if the button simply was not there.  I've never seen this issue before.  Anyone know what's going on and if there is a setting to fix this?  I know the keyboard is not damaged because backspace and delete keys work fine in other applications.
    Thanks!
    Windows 7   LS 9.0.0

It's quite possible.  Closing the document and then re-opening it somehow magically reset the keys so that they work now.  Thanks for the response, though!

  • What happen if I delete the Blank row in Master Data Table

    This is what happened:
I have an InfoObject Item has only the key and description. I wrote a program to delete all Master Data in Item.
    DELETE FROM /bic/TItem.
    DELETE FROM /bic/SItem.
    COMMIT WORK.
I still able to load Master Data to Item succussfully without a blank row. But I remember 1 blank row always gets inserted to the table, right? In my case, it's not ture. I would like to know why and what's going to affect if there is no blank row in the table?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I guess there should be no impact but why do you want to delete the row. I guess at some point the system would still insert a blank record.
    Bye

  • When using Iphoto to import photo from existing folder, what happens if I delete the photo in Iphoto ? Will the original file in the folder be deleted too?

When using Iphoto to import photo from existing folder to iphoto, what happens if:
    1. I delete that photo in iphoto? will the original file in the folder be deleted too ?
    2.  when importing, does the hard disk store 2 versions of the photo, hence occupying additional space in the harddisk?

1 - no  --  iPhoto only manages fiel within the iPhoto library - it does not ever do anything with files outside the library
2 - No idea what you are asking - by default (and strongly recommended) iPhoto copies the original to the iPhoto library and you delete the source file outside the iPhoto library - iPhoto alwasy has at least two versions of every photo and some times three - it always have the original, a thumbnail and once a photo is modified a preview - this is not optional - if it is not what you want then iPhoto is not the correct progrtam to be using for phopto management
