What is better Data Link or Formula Columns

Hi everybody,
in what case performance is better, to have lot of formula colums in the same query block or to have data linked queries for the same.
appreciate any suggestions.

Linking using formula column

I've tried several ways of doing this, and this seems to be the easiest way. Basically, depending on the type of record, I need to use one of two columns to link to another query. So, if a row in query A has type 1, I need to use column X to link to query B. If a row in query A has type 2, I need to use column Y to link to query B.
I thought the easiest way to do this would be to create a formula column in Query A that was the value of column X or Y as appropriate and then link to Query B using this formula field. However, I can't seem to link queries using a formula.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can accomplish this? I'm new with Oracle reports, so go easy on me :)

What error are you getting?
Is it: REP-1297: Data link child column 'CF_1' must be a database column?
If so, the reason is the child column cannot be a formula column. The parent column, on the other hand, can be a formula column.
If I understand your data model correctly, "A" is your parent query/group and "CF_1" is the formula column in query/group "A".
"B" is your child query. "FK_1" (the foreign key column in query "B") is your child column.
You should be able to link "CF_1" in "A" to "FK_1" in "B" by doing:
- click on the link tool
- click on "CF_1" in "A"
- drag to "FK_1" in "B"
- A link should be created. Double click on it to bring up the property palette for that link and you'd see the link properties.

FR Conditional Suppression on Formula Column

If I have 2 columns of data and 1 formula column taking the difference.
Row 1 is Base of Custom1, with conditional suppression on formula column if difference is <$5m
Row 3 is Total custom1
Row 2 is Other (ie [3] - [1].sum)
Row 1 suppresses fine, but row 2 returns zero as [1].sum is apparantly prcessed before the conditional suppression.
I've tried this before with suppression on Data columns and it worked fine. Is there a solution to this?

For best practice you should put any calculated rows as the last row, in your example I suggest you move the row 2 (the calculation row [3] - [1].sum) below row 3.
FR seems to calculate each row in turn, moving down the report - therefore it can miss calculations which reference other values or calculations down the sheet.

FORMULA COLUMN ISSUE

Does anyone know how to get a formula column. i.e., a date, to display on a report when the first query does not return any data (where the formula column resides) and the 2nd query does?
When the first query returns data, the date appears on the 1st page (1st query results) and 2nd page (2nd query results), yet when the 1st query does not return any data, the second query page is without a date displayed.

there is no column which contains the ItemURL.
if you want a colum to have url than you need to create a workflow
which calculate the ItemUrl and store it in custom column

Syntax of formula column in data template

I am trying to generate XML output from Data Template. But I am struggling with how to implement formula column. I am using this syntax. But it is not working. Please anybody send me working formula column syntax.

The call is done directly in the query.
In your Template header you can reference the database package to use this for example for triggers in your template:
<dataTemplate .... defaultPackage="myPackage" ...>
Then your Query looks like

In your dataStructure Section you than can reference the formula like any other column

Formula column equivalent in Data Template

Hi all,
I'm working with my first data template and fumbling my way through. I was able to generate the XML output and apply my template. I have some idea on how to burst too, but I'm stuck on how to get the current user's email address. In Oracle Reports, I could just create a formula column and get any specific information needed. How do I do the same in Data Templates?

Applying order by for the data comming from the formula column

I am having a report in which some of the columns in which data is comming from the formula columns,but i need the data in asc order.

And you have empno, sal, comm and a formula column 'f_percentage' in one group. Add one dummy column in the query, like this:
select 'temp' temp, empno, sal, comm from emp
Move this 'temp' column into the second group (drag and drop outside the first group). You don't have to create repeating frame/or need to show this 'temp' column on the report.
Now if you use break order on formula column, that should work. Make sure you have break order on other columns also. Arrange items (change order) in data model as you needed. Run your report before and after this change and make sure you have same number of rows before and after this change.

Suppress Missing Data not work in web form with formula column inside

Dear All,
I've a planning web form with formula column inside to calculate the variance and % variance. But missing cell can't be suppressed, although I've checked the 'Suppress Missing Blocks' and 'Suppress Missing Data' options.
Anyone have face the same problem..?? and how to fixed it..??

There is a known issue that sounds like the problem you are experiencing
10358200 - If a formula column exists in a data form, selecting the Suppress missing option does not hide rows that do not contain data.

Is there a way to Insert Data into a Lookup Column Type on a SharePoint List Destination in SSIS?

Greetings.
I have successfully worked out inserting SQL data (2008 R2) into my 2010 SharePoint list (New, Update, Delete) by creating an SSIS Data Flow Task as outlined here:

However, the problem I am running into is inserting data into the SharePoint Columns that are "Lookup" column types. I verified that all of the values I am copying from SQL into the SharePoint lookup column exist in the customn list it is pointing to. It
is important to have this column be a lookup column as it links to another custom list that has many more columns of related information.
I have read and re-read the SharePoint SSIS Adapters 2011.docx from
http://sqlsrvintegrationsrv.codeplex.com/ and the only section that seems to apply is this:
"Looking Up Values in a SharePoint List
If you have to look up a value in a SharePoint list, you can use the Lookup transformation in your data flow, and use the SharePoint List source to load the lookup table. You may have to add a Derived Column transformation or a Script component that splits
data in the lookup column on the ";#" delimiter to separate the ID value from the description.
If you are replacing values in your data with the values that you look up in the list, then loading the changed data back into SharePoint, you only have to include the ID from the lookup column. SharePoint ignores the description if you include it."
I am not sure if the above statement means that I should be passing the assocaited ID's other than the actual data into the SharePoint List destination. If that is the case, that will not really work as the lookup contains hundreds of rows. Not too mention
I have several of these lookup column types pointing to several different lists.
Any guidance in how I can put data into a SharePoint Lookup column type via Data Flow Task would be so much appreaciated.

I have found a solution to my problem and thought I would share it here in case there are others who are struggling with the above scenario. If you have a better way, I would love to hear about it since my way is a bit tedious.
In a nutshell, in order to have an SSIS package put data from an OLE DB Source into a SharePoint List Destination Lookup Column, you need to pass the ID of the value that is being looked up, not the value that is in the “master” OLE DB source.
Rough explanation, OLE DB Source value for column “Approp” is “4005” --> SQL matches “4005” with the ID in the new lookup table (“4005” = ID “5” as defined in the SharePoint lookup list) --> “5” gets passed into SharePoint List destination lookup
column --> SharePoint displays “4005” and successfully links to the lookup list.
Funny thing (not really), the error(s) outlined in my original post are not related in getting data into a SharePoint Lookup column as I am now successful in getting data into the system but I am still getting the same above error(s). I think it has to do
with the ID column in the SharePoint list destination. What I can’t seem to figure out is why since I am not linking any data to that ID column (at least on new records). I am however linking it on Update and Delete and the errors mentioned above disappear
and things work well.
There are three tasks that need to get done in order to get data from SQL into a SharePoint lookup column assuming you have already set up your SharePoint lookup lists:
1. Create new lookup table(s) in SQL that has the IDs from the SharePoint Lookup list and the values coming from the “master” OLD DB Source. You can see the ID column in SharePoint by toggling it on in a view.
2. Create a SQL command that JOINs all the databases and tables so that the ID is passed and not the value into the SharePoint lookup column
3. Change the “Data access mode” to “SQL Command” instead of the “Table or view” in the OLE DB Source and paste your command into the “SQL command text:” area.
Other helpful info is that you may also need to add additional columns in the new lookup tables in SQL for the scenarios when the data is not unique. You can see this two times in my SQL command example for Units and JobTitles:
