What is causing my stalled UPD processes?

We have been experiencing an occasional situation where all of our UPD processes go to sleep for long periods of time creating rather horrible response time for the end-users.  SM13 UPDATE RECORDS shows a growing list of items waiting for those UPD processes to free up.
What can I be looking at while the UPD processes are sleeping to determine the root cause?
Thanks everyone.

This issue (locked UPD processes) did occur again recently.  I had out basis guy check ST04 for exclusive lock waits but found none.  We do know that rolling one specific application server causes the UPD queue to release but we still don't know why.
"... you might want to investigate the dev_w* files in tx. AL11"
I was not able to find the dev_w* file in AL11.  I see the directories but don't know where the dev_w* files live.  If you could clue me in I will check that the next time around.
Thanks.

  • What's causing this plugin process crashing?

I'm getting the following at least once a day. Something is crashing, but it's not taking down Safari or the system. Can anyone determine what's causing it? This particular report seems related to Safari, at least that was the open application in the foreground. However it's happened at other times as well so it may not be Safari specific.

The sample looks way too dark ( gray snow, gray/blue sky ). You're probably in good shape while in ProPhoto 16bit RGB, but I believe you're clipping the image...especially for web. Try saving a copy of the original and, instead of converting to Adobe RGB / Relative Colorimetric, keep both images in ProPhoto / Perceptual. So, you now have two files: 1.) 300ppi, and 1.) 72ppi...one for print, one for web. But, the difference is they are both still 16bit from the original RAW file. Now, for the print version, convert to Adobe RGB / 8bit / 300ppi. For the web version, size it to whatever you need for display at 100% no scaling, no additional compression, no more resizing. Convert the web version to sRGB / 8bit / .jpg @ 4 ( no need to save at a higher compression ). By keeping the rendering in "Perceptual", you may retain more gamut than an Adobe RGB / Relative Colorimetric. Try a generic test on one of your "problem" images and see if there is an improvement. Some of the other posts regarding your monitor may be another issue ( banding, splotches, etc. ).

  • What is causing the two step save process in Acrobat XI?

Acrobat Reader XI will not save a pdf back to the same file name on the first try.  It changes the name to A9R9FF*.tmp (the * being a wildcard) and gives the error message can not save rename file.  When I then choose the original file it saves it over the original.  Adds an extra step to the save function.  What is causing this.  It did not occur in previous versions of Acrobat Reader.

    Hey mwhessel,
Please clarify whether you are using Adobe Reader or Acrobat.
Does this happen with every PDF you try to save or any specific one?
Try saving the file to another privileged location and check if you face the same issue.
    Please let me know.
    Regards,
    Anubha

  • My macbook pro keeps freezing and shutting off when I am browsing the web on Safari.  How can I figure out what is causing this issue?

For the past few weeks my computer will slow down when I have been on Safari for awhile, then freeze, and then just go black.  I have to press the power button and then it goes to a black screen with the apple logo and a loading bar underneath when it reboots.  I'm not sure what is causing the issue, but on my previous mac it would have an error message if something like this happened that I could submit.  Any suggestions of where to start to solve this issue?
    Thanks!

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the BOOT_TIME log message that corresponds to the last boot time when you had the problem. Now clear the search box to reveal all messages. Select the ones logged before the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
For example, if the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down for three minutes before you forced a restart, post the messages timestamped within three minutes before the boot time, not after. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract—not at the beginning.
If there are long runs of repeated messages, please post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". A shutdown stall report has a name that ends in ".shutdownstall". Select the most recent of each, if any. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot. It's possible that none of these reports exists.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • E-mails with attachments, mostly photos, are replicating themselves in my inbox, 100 or more at a time. What is causing this and how do I fix it?

It is an intermittent, but a regular-enough-to-be-really-annoying occurrence........when someone sends an e-mail, to which is attached a photo of some kind, or a picture document, it will replicate in my inbox, sometimes 100 or more copies at a time. I delete all of them, empty the trash, and will also go to the Yahoo web version of my e-mail and delete the offending e-mail from there and empty the trash. Sometimes worked. Now that process isn't working, and this particular e-mail just filled up my inbox with over 100 copies of itself, even after the other steps were taken. Can't get any incoming mail.
This log jam of replicated e-mails prevents incoming and new mail from reaching the inbox.
Needless to say, am not too happy about it. What is causing it, and how do I fix it, other than to go to Outlook for my e-mail client....? :0) This, coupled with the constant "not responding" each time I try to send an e-mail, delete items from the "sent" or inbox folders, is really driving me nuts. We have a crappy internet connection, and that is likely part of it, but the "not responding" is not a new thing with Thunderbird, either.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide. I dislike the web version of Yahoo, and don't want to have to switch to that, as it just doesn't meet e-mail needs. Would like to get Thunderbird fixed.

I have not seen your error in either my IE or my chrome. I do note that you are using a "strict" Document Type Declaration.
You might try a transitional DTD, which should be more forgiving than the strict:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
Other than that, I don't see anything particular (because I don't see the error, either) that would cause the menu to drop vertically instead of horizontally.

  • Firefox 5.0 is supposed to have a separaret Twitter tab, but I noticed today that that tab is missing. What is causing this problem?

Firefox version 5.0 has a separate Twitter tab built into this web browser. However, today I have been having problems with launching the Firefox browser. An error message appears, after attempting to launch the browser, which states that the Firefox browser is already running, and that the process needs to be closed or that the computer needs to be restarted. After restarting my computer and launching the Firefox browser, I noticed that the built-in Twitter tab ( near the upper left-hand corner of the browser ) was missing. What is causing these problems?

I'm pretty sure that Firefox version 5.0 has a built-in Twitter tab. Whatever the case may be, I downloaded Firefox version 5.0.1 this morning. I learned that if you right-click on a tab, that a menu box will appear on the screen. One of the options in that menu box is "Pin as App Tab." If I go to the http://twitter.com web site, and then right-click on the corresponding Twitter tab, and then select "Pin as App Tab," then a small Twitter tab will appear to the right of the orange-and-white "Firefox" tab ( in the upper left-hand corner of the Firefox web browser screen ). Then I can click on that Twitter tab and go directly to the http://twitter.com web site. However, when I exit the Firefox version 5.0.1 web browser, and then immediately re-launch it, the separate Twitter tab is gone. Is there any way, within Firefox version 5.0.1, that I can make the separate Twitter tab permanent after selecting "Pin as App Tab"? Thank you for your assistance regarding this matter.

  • What is causing my Mac to be so slow?

Ok so I have a 2011 Mac Mini, upgraded to 8gb of RAM running Mavericks. Over the past few months, it has been performing poorly during certain tasks, for example:
-When watching videos, both on and offline, picture will randomly freeze for a couple of seconds, while audio continues
-Every-day tasks such as right clicking to open the mini menu that appears or opening a folder in Finder (rainbow wheel appears)
-Loading a webpage - nothing will happen for a few seconds, then it connects and everything loads very quickly
So I backed up using Time Machine, and wiped the harddrive, reinstalled via USB installation (without restoring backup), and everything was super quick again. So I restored just my applications and files (ie. not my settings) in the hope my mac would maintain its new found speed.
    It didn't.
In fact, it has regained exactly the same issues as last time. So my question is, what can I do to find out what is causing this slow down?
    Thanks,
    Max

    Hi Linc,
Many thanks for your continued support, I am afraid the Mac is still as it was even after the OS X Yosemite Public Release Install. Here are the results for the new test I carried out as per your detailed instructions:

That certainly looks like a low memory issue, 2 GB ram is barely enough to run Mac OS X versions from Lion through Yosemite.  The high number of Page Outs and killed processes show very high memory pressure.
Try adding memory, but be sure it is high quality, Mac certified memory such as that from OWC, http://www.macsales.com or Crucial, http://www.crucial.com

  • What would cause my Game Center app to stop working ?

What would cause my Game Center app to stop working &amp; other apps to just shut off .

I've attached a stripped down version of the subVI which handles the UDP connection.
In the Init and Disconnect cases, I've had to remove the startup and shutdown commands as that's protected info, but they are just fixed U8 arrays.  The subVI does not have any incoming errors when executed by itself or as part of the main VI nor does the Init case generate any errors.  Also, the UDP Open and UDP Write functions process a nonzero Connection ID.
Let's see, what else?  The Init and Disconnect cases operates just once at the beginning and end, as you might expect.  While the Read case operating at 1x/sec during normal operation.
Let me know if there's any more insight I can provide.

  • What can cause ctm_config.properties to reformatted ? LMS 3.2 solaris10

The customer observed the same error mentioned in this thread:
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3038760#3038760
When running a quick report in Campus Manager (User Tracking > Reports) the following error appears:
    Application error: URN_NOT_FOUND : urn "ogs_server_urn" : Not found !!.
Also, the reason here was the same, a config file with with wrong content:
    NMSROOT/MDC/tomcat/webapps/cmapps/WEB-INF/lib/ctm_config.txt
Interestingly, the file was touched when a specific job started. So I assume that this job somehow scrambles up that file.
the content of the "wrong" file was:
    ================
    #CSTM Configurations
    #Thu Jul 01 11:35:32 CEST 2010
    SERVER_PORT=45589
    MAX_VM_PORTS=20

    CTM_SSL=1
    CTM_URL=\:443/campus/CTMServlet
    CTM_FILE_UPLOAD_URL=\:443/ctm/FileUpload
    ===================================
Also I found a strange "copy" of that file (or part of it) here: /opt/CSCOpx/nullctm_config.txt
    root@server # cat /opt/CSCOpx/nullctm_config.txt
    #CSTM Configurations
    #Sat Jul 10 11:40:22 CEST 2010

    the timestamp of both files:

If I remember well this job was of the type "Switch Port Report-Switch Port Summary". But I could not see this job. The reason for this could be that there were a huge amount of jobs listed in  CS > Server > Admin > Job Browser: more then 30 000 history entries.
After cleaning up the number of history jobs, the same error appeared again a few day later. What can cause this strange error ?

I am still confused with this error...
    after the first occurence of the problem I added the line (DYNAMIC_PORT_ALLOCATION=0) to ctm_config.txt as you suggested, restarted the service and the problem was gone;
is it necessary to do this also for the file in the campus path?
        /opt/CSCOpx/MDC/tomcat/webapps/campus/WEB-INF/lib
a week later or so the customer said that the problem reoccured without corruption of ctm_config.txt - could this be possible?
As I described above, according to the timestamps of ctmregistry (in cmapps) it was not rewritten after dmgtd restart - ok - but why was it possible to generate the UT > Reports without a problem first an later not?
this is what I observed with the last test:
after deleting ctmregistry in both directries it was only recreated in
        /opt/CSCOpx/MDC/tomcat/webapps/campus/WEB-INF/lib
around 20 mins afer ANIServer start time and it did not get created in
        /opt/CSCOpx/MDC/tomcat/webapps/cmapps/WEB-INF/lib
although, the reports in UT > Reports > Report Generator are running fine
I assume ctmregistry in cmapps will get created on the first request but this is not the task of generating the report. Instead I think another tasks/action creates this file but when it exists the Report Generater makes use of it. I observed that with a bad ctmregistry file and a good ctm_config.txt in
        /opt/CSCOpx/MDC/tomcat/webapps/cmapps/WEB-INF/lib
the Device Selector for UT > Reports > Report Generator did not show any Devices...
so I am a little confused about this behaviour...
Is there/will there be a patch available for LMS 3.2 that prevents ctm_config.txt to get corrupted? It is a config file - shouldnt it be opened read-only by any LMS process?

  • What's the recommended setting for "Process memory usage" ("process virtual" in UI) for a 64-bit host on a 64-bit OS?

    Hi gurus
In resource based throttling, what's the recommended setting for "Process memory usage" ("process virtual" in the resource based throttling tab of the UI) for a 64-bit host
    on a 64-bit Windows OS?
    According to MS (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee308808(v=bts.10).aspx):
    "By default, the
Process memory usage throttling threshold is set to 25. If this value is exceeded and the BizTalk process memory usage is more than 300 MB, a throttling condition may occur. On a 32-bit
server, you can increase the Process memory usage value to 50. On a 64-bit server, you can increase this value to 100. This allows for more memory consumption by the BizTalk process before throttling
    occurs."
Does this mean that 100 is the recommended setting for a 64-bit host on a 64-bit Windows?
    Thanks
    Michael Brandt Lassen

    Hi Michael,
Recommended setting is the default setting which is 25 .dot.
If your situation is abnormal and you see message delivery throttling state to “4” when the following performance counters are high or if you expect any of you integration
process could have impact on following counters, then you can consider the suggestion by Microsoft. Don’t change the default setting.
    High process memory
    Process memory usage (MB)
    Process memory usage threshold (MB)
You can see these counters under “BizTalk:MessageAgent”
You can gauge these performance counter and its maximum values if have done any regression/performance testing in your test servers. If you have seen these counters having
high values and causing throttling, then you can update the Process memory usage.
Or unexpectedly you’re process high throughput messages in production which is causing these counters to go high and cause throttling, then up can update the Process memory
    usage.
The above two cases where I know my expected process usage (by doing performance testing) or suddenly my production server processing has gone high due to unexpected business
hike (or any reasons) which caused throttling, then do changes to default throttling setting.
Just changing the default setting without actual reason could have adverse effect where you end up allocating
more processing capacities but the actual message processing message usage ever is low means you end up investing in underutilised resources.

    M.R.Ashwin Prabhu

  • What is causing day old notifications to repeat along with new notifications?

About a year ago my Instagram began repeating a old notification, it repeated along with a new notification. It was never consistent, it stopped then started, went on for a couple hours or sometimes all day. Nothing that I was doing caused or stopped the notifications. The notification was different everyday. I have screenshots. I googled around, all I could gather was that very few people were coming forward with similar problems and little information about what was causing it was available. I was using my iPod 5th gen. This is what it the repeat notification would look like,

I signed into my account on my husbands phone and watched for repeat notifications but it never happened once. I made a new account with Instagram thinking my account may have been hacked. But it never stopped.
I called apple, my iPod still being under warranty I had a free call or something. I blabbed away, happy to tell someone who would perhaps help me. Only to get cut off 5 minutes in getting no help whatsoever. I never called back. I upgraded with my cable/internet company and had a new modem or router ( unsure what the difference is) delivered. It was over a week before the notifications began again. I called again and had my modem reset but It continued.
Meanwhile, I had noticed a lag in the response time while typing, I'm trying to say that I could type entire sentences before my iPod would catch up.This is when I started watching my crash logs, looking for anything that might help me understand why this was happening. That's when I found "Bad magic", a mysterious process(?). A google search brought up nada. I posted on a developer forum asking "What is Bad magic" and I was told by one person that he'd never heard tell of it and to report it to the bug reporter. I never did, because I don't know how.  I have screenshots. But I don't know how to load them. Here is a piece of one of the logs. Listed under  ExcResource_MobileSafari.

I still occasionally use my iPod, but it only has the basics, plus games I've download for my kids. Now games like "pet doctor" and "celebrity dentist" repeat notifications every once in a while. It looks like this..
      Pet doctor 4:35pm
      Pet Doctor 5 days ago
      Pet Doctor 12 days ago
Since then, I have purchased a brand new 5s, it was a fresh start, I knew there was no possible way I would have any problems because it was new. That was less than two months ago. Today the repeat notification started on my 5s., but only with Instagram .  have no idea why. I downloaded a process viewer but nothing stands out to me. Only EscrowSecurityAllert, but I have no idea what that is. I did find a crash log titled FlashStatus,
    Date:2014-02-12 20:05:31 -0400
    Incident ID:9F4D7342-BF3A-4D0B-A10E-1381B99BC3F9

    System ID:
    2014-02-11 20:01:10 -0400 addaily[337]: Factory
^^ that is the entire crash log. Is it possible that the two are somehow connected?
I hope that someone will take the time to mull this over. There must be a cause. I am aware that iOS devices are safe, but something is causing these problems. Theoretically, what could be the problem?

    Hardware Model: iPhone6,1
    OS Version: iOS 7.0.4 (11B554a)
    System ID:

^^ that is the entire crash log. Is it possible that the two are somehow connected?
I hope that someone will take the time to mull this over. There must be a cause. I am aware that iOS devices are safe, but something is causing these problems. Theoretically, what could be the problem?

  • Unable to access endpoints error. What might cause it?

    I got the below error
“Unable to access the following endpoint(s): https://secure-ausomxdsa.crmondemand.com/Services/Integration”
I copied and pasted the below url into a browser and I got the “Page Not Found” error
    https://secure-ausomxdsa.crmondemand.com/Services/Integration?wsdl
Do you know what might cause this error?
    Thanks

Hi, ok now I see, no you don't if you use bpel, but anyway the ?wsdl url is not reachable in on demand. Url https://secure-ausomxdsa.crmondemand.com/Services/Integration is right if you are on pod "dsa". I'm not that familiar with bpel but as far as I know it's simply loading the wsdl into your bpel process and use WS-Security for server side session handling. If you don't send security headers you have to define a login step first but normally this is not necessarry if you add ws security header in your requests.
