What is the best file format to use with imovie?

I am relatively new to Mac and got it for music production, but more recently I have been messing around with video and a I have difficulty dealing with Mpeg and some other file types with imovie. My question is this, what file format will automatically import into imovie the way that iphoto imports from my camera? and if they aren’t recognised, what is the best file converter??

'best' is, what iMovie is intended for - straight from tape-based or AVCHD camcorder.
'best' in terms of most versatile and offering the 'best' format (=iM's own AppleIntermediateCodec) is free Mpeg Streamclip
only for convertiing mp2, such as non-copyprotected videoDVDs, you need the 20$ mp2-playback-component ......

  • What is the best file format to start with?

I have not quite figured out what is the best way and best tool (Photo
shop, Fireworks, Illustrator?) to optimize images to put on a web page?
I know that there is a "save for web" feature that is very useful.
But what I want to know is what is the best file to start with, to resize larger or smaller, and save for web,
and still get a clean and crisp looking Jpeg, png, or whatever?
I have a client who sends me EPS images to use for their logos. It is too big and I have to resize it.
Is this a good format to start with and to resize, or should I tell the client to send it to me in a different format?
They also send me huge raw photoshop files (with layers and all) that I have to put in a much smaller
placeholder..Again, is this a good file format to start with and resize and save for web?
and if so, which tool is best to use in this case to its reduce size this file and get optimal quality - Ps, Fw, or Ai??
or should I tell the client to send it to me in a different format?
what is the best format to start with, so I can tell clients to send me their images in that format?
if anyone can point me to some links or other place where I can find this information that will be great?
    thanks!!!

Photoshop and Fireworks can both create files (raster images) suitable for placing images on the web. Some people prefer one to the other. If your not doing editing then Fireworks is probably the tool geared most towards that goal. If you want to create vector graphics for use on the web, neither Photoshop nor Fireworks are suitable. Illustrator is the tool to use.

  • What is the best video format to use with Dreamweaver CS5.5

My client has asked what format to convert their video to before sending it to me to be placed on their homepage. I'm using DreamWeaver CS5.5 with an HTML5 template - trying to steer clear of Flash for this new site. On other sites, I embed videos from their hosting site (YouTube, SchoolTube, etc).
My question to the forum is what is the best way (and prefered format) now days to insert a video onto a webpage using DreamWeaver CS5.5 and HTML5. I have the Adobe Web Premium package.

In the chapter on video in Dive Into HTML5 it says this:
There is no single combination of containers and codecs that works in all HTML5 browsers.
This is not likely to change in the near future.
To make your video watchable across all of these devices and platforms, you’re going to need to encode your video more than once.
    And a suggested workflow:
For maximum compatibility, here’s what your video workflow will look like:
Make one version that uses WebM (VP8 + Vorbis).
Make another version that uses H.264 baseline video and AAC “low complexity” audio in an MP4 container.
Make another version that uses Theora video and Vorbis audio in an Ogg container.
Link to all three video files from a single <video> element, and fall back to a Flash-based video player.
I think that your starting point is to consider your target audience.

You can try these setting. They are from CS5.5 but should work in CS4.
Make sure you check Use Max. Render Quality.

  • What is the best format to import images into iBA? How should I compress my images before importing? What is the best file format? PNG? Jpeg?

What is the best format to import images into iBA? How should I compress my images before importing? What is the best file format? PNG? Jpeg? I'm trying to figure out the best file format / compression for importing images into iBA. Also, does anyone know how iBA will compress the file? Are the assets attached (like a website) or flattened out? Does anyone know how iBA handles this? Many many thanks to anyone with insight into this.

  • What is the best external battery to use with a macbook pro retina?

Looking for the best option here. What is the best external battery to use with a macbook pro retina?

You should check your date of purchase against the manufacturer's warranty
or guaranty since some of those better brands have some recourse should
they fail within a specified time period. A good reason to save dated receipts.
Since solid-state USB drives probably don't (all) use a wear-leveling software
to equally utilize their recordable space evenly, it is possible that some of these
may exhibit a failure in some sector areas due to excessive over-writing. If the
ones you use do not have such a technology or an undercounted total capacity
with a means to automatically write in other sections, you may have to consider
manually using a disk utility to zero-overwrite and reformat them occasionally.
Even so, that may only help a marginal flash or thumb drive work a little longer.
Should a camera memory card fail you still may be able to attempt with margin of
success, to +recover image files+ from it. re: http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec
The standard default format they ship with works well for most file types; so if
you aren't moving OS X or Mac app specific files around on a USB flash drive,
the original format should be fine. Oh, you can use Disk Utility to attempt to do
a repair; but in some cases you may have to reformat them, etc.
    {Some of the flash drive warranties or guarantees may vary from between regions;
so if you have one with a '5 Year' guarantee in the US, other rules may apply in EU,
    or when you seek to replace an item under warranty outside of where it was bought.}
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • What is the best mail account to use with Apple Mail?

Hi All, I am a recent convert to Mac from a PC and I am on a sharp learning curve. At present I am trying to use mail on Leapord. I have a Googlemail account which I have tried linking to Apple mail but I seem to get the same issue many others have with send e-mails. What is more, googlmail's All Mail facility is doing my nut in at the moment.
Therefore I was wondering what is the best mail account to use with Apple Mail? I only have a Mackbook and an i-pod nano so subscribing to mobile me at £58/yr just to get the @mac.com account (which I assume would be perfect) seems a little extreme for me.
Are their any other account that work correctly and don't have this All Mail option.
    Thanking you in advance.
    Matthew

    Hi,
    I have 2 issues.
    1) I have mail 3.6 and when I set up the mail account via IMAP and STMP I recieve mails ok, but I can not send them. If I do I get the following window pop up.
"can not send message using smtp.googlemail.com server" it tells me my address was rejected by the server.
    2) I have 2500 e-mails in my All Mails folder on googlemail. Nearly all of these I delete from my inbox years ago (my bad mailbox management). Google seems to store all my mails. I want to delete these permentaly as they also get downloaded into Apple Mail.
    Hope you can help.

  • What is the best wireless printer to use with an IPad Air and IPhone?

What is the best wireless printer to use with an IPad Air and IPhone that will print both text and photos?  Also, is the separate keyboard available for the IPad Air, yet?

Best is relative. Different people like different things. I have an epson that I like. I'd look through a site like Best Buy and compare reviews for Air Print enabled printers.
as to the keyboard, I know Zagg has one and I think there are other manufacturers that have keyboards for the Air. As far as I know, pretty much any bluetooth keyboard will work, but if you want a case then you'd need to get a specific one.

  • What is the best file format for photos?

    Greetings.
I am going to be importing some photos into FCE 3.5.1 to do some effects and motion. What is the prefered file format form Photoshop for FCE? TIFF, JPEG, and PS format all import, but I'm just wondering if one is prefered over the other.
My images will be pretty big, 3000 pxels x xxx at 72dpi, so I can move in and out, and maybe pan.
    Thanks.
    Jonathan

PNG, PSD. Don't make the image larger than you need to.

  • What is the best conversion format to work with FCU ProX?

I got a lot of old material from a client on Mpeg-2 (he converted it  from VHS tapes from his family). When I tried to import the media into the project. FCU Pro X did not recognize the file. Using Toast Titanium I converted it to MPEG-4 and was able to import it. The quality is not good though.
Is that the best compression format to use or shall I try something else?
What about importing a DVD into the project?
    VOB aren't recognized as well

MPEG4 comes in a lot of different varieties. Generally speaking, it's not a format that FCPX is very happy with. You may or may not run into problems with it. (My recommendation to people who have such footage is is transcode ot to Pro Res.)
Pro Res is an excellent editing codec. I won't say that it's the perfect codec for all situations but it's the one i use for virtually everything that needs editing. I notice that Tom Wolsky just responded to a similar question and recommended DVCPRO 50. It's an excellent format and one that I've used in the past; the equivalent length files are about 2X Pro Res. Try a short test and see what you prefer.

  • What is the best dsl modem to use with the Airport Extreme for AT

I'm looking for the best dsl modem to use with AT&T service
I have no idea if the Motorola 2210 is the "best" device to use, but it has been flawless in 5+ years of operation.
I believe that there is a new version of the is product, now called the 3360. I normally switch modems after about 5 years of use and will use the 3360 in the near future.
This support article from AT&T provides some valuable information about how to configure a router using a modem:

  • Music Taking Up way more Space than before.  What is the best file format?

I just bought a new Mac Book, and have been importing most of my CD collection into I-tunes to put on my Ipod Video. The Default in iTunes seems to be import using AAC Encoder at a setting of High Quality 128kbps.
However, I only have 2800 songs in my library at the moment andit is using 17 gb of Hard drive space on my computer and my Ipod. Also all songs came in as MP4 format.
Before getting this new computer, I had the same amount of songs and it used about half of that.
    I have 3 questions.
1.) What is the best format to cut the amount of space used, but still have a high quality sound.
2.) Is there a way to convert what is in the library to another format such as mp3.
3.) is this going to require me to save my Itunes folder to an external drive, delete the library, and then drag all back in to itunes after changing the preference setting? What is the best way to do this?
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I only have 2800 songs in my library at the moment andit is using 17 gb of
    Maybe a bit high.
    I have ~2500 songs at 12 GB. I’m using 160 kbps - AAC.
1.) What is the best format to cut the amount of space used, but still have a high quality sound.
AAC - 128 kbps. This is the default for iTunes and offers a very good compromise between size and quality.
To me, AAC 128 kbps is at least as good as MP3 160 kbps and the AAC would be 1/3 less the size.
2.) Is there a way to convert what is in the library to another format such as mp3.
Yeah, buit you don;t really want to do it that way as you will lose further quality.
AAC is a lossy format and when you converted it the first time, you lose quality. If you reconvert that to MP3, you will lose further quality.
3.) is this going to require me to save my Itunes folder to an external drive, delete the library, and then drag all back in to itunes after changing the preference setting?
    No.

  • What is the best file format for importing photos into Imovie?

What is the best format to save photos in before bringing into Imovie? What is the best resolution for them and what is the best size? These will eventually be ported over to IDVD. It seems that as jpgs Imovie didn't recognize them, but as psds it did.

    hi Richard:
Just a personal preference, but if I intend on using the photos for printing I keep them in the PSD form. When adding to imovie, however, I use .pict
