What is the difference between a script & a report ?

What is the difference between a script & a report ?

hi,
script is basically used for printing,
report is for information,
printing a report is difficult,
report can be interactive,
script is not interactive,
script is client-dependent,
report is client-independent,
script is modified in most cases,
report is developed from the scratch,
thanks,

    OFT is the old version of OpenScript, which will no longer be part of ATS as per the next major realize 9.20.
    I would recommend to to spend any time looking at it.

  • What are the Differences between These Scripts

    I am using sql in a software called TOAD. I am trying to figure it out for a project for days. I really need some help to distinguish the differences among them.
    In the project, I need to join two tables, db_a and db_b, where their clt_no, clt_ofc_no, and postal _codes are the same. However, when I try to do the joins by the 3 different queries below, they all give me different results. I've highlighted the parts that they are different from each other. The reason I wish for somebody can point out the differences is that I don't think myself understand how exactly exists and in work (i've read some posts about them). Maybe at least somebody can advise the factors that might cause the differences, so I know where I should check.
    Here is some sample data:
    table db_a
    Seq_No     Clt_no     Ofc_no     postal_Code
    1     123     1     M5T1K3
    1     123     2     N2L4D4
    *1     125     1     M3T1L3*
    2     456     3     L3T2T3
    3     658     1     O6S3A5
    4     448     2     E4T7A9
    4     874     4     E6Y7I8
    5     741     1     B3T5R5
    5     742     1     O6P7Y7
    6     521     2     P4W3E6
    7     358     2     X3F4V5
    table db_b
    Clt_no     Ofc_no     postal_Code
    123      1     M5T1K3
    123      2     N2L4D4
    125      1     M3T1L8
    456      3     L3T2T3
    658      1     B3T5R5
    448      2     E4T7A9
    874      4     E6Y7I8
    742      1     O6P7Y7
    358      2     X3F4V5
    Script 1:
    SELECT a.seq_no, count(*)
    FROM db_a a
    WHERE exists (
    SELECT a.seq_no
    FROM db_b b
    WHERE a.clt_no=b.clt_no
    AND a.clt_ofc_no=b.clt_ofc_no
    AND ('' || trim(UPPER(a.postal_code)) || '')=(UPPER(b.CLT_PSZP_CD))
    AND a.postal_code IS NOT NULL
    AND a.match_desc = '03-Name Matched'
    group by a.seq_no
    Script 2:
    SELECT a.seq_no, count(*)
    FROM db_a a
    WHERE exists (
    SELECT a.seq_no
    FROM db_b b, db_a a
    WHERE a.clt_no=b.clt_no
    AND a.clt_ofc_no=b.clt_ofc_no
    AND ('' || trim(UPPER(a.postal_code)) || '')=(UPPER(b.CLT_PSZP_CD))
    AND a.postal_code IS NOT NULL
    AND a.match_desc = '03-Name Matched'
    group by a.seq_no
    Script 3:
    SELECT a.seq_no, count(*)
    FROM db_a a
    WHERE a.seq_no in (
    SELECT a.seq_no
    FROM db_b b, db_a a
    WHERE a.clt_no=b.clt_no
    AND a.clt_ofc_no=b.clt_ofc_no
    AND ('' || trim(UPPER(a.postal_code)) || '')=(UPPER(b.CLT_PSZP_CD))
    AND a.postal_code IS NOT NULL
    AND a.match_desc = '03-Name Matched'
    group by a.seq_no
    The first script is closest to my target. However, I also need to select the accounts that have the same seq_no even though their clt_no, clt_ofc_no or postal_code dont match. For example, even though the third row in db_a and db_b doesn't match on postal_code, it has the same seq_no with some other accounts that have matches on clt_no, ofc_no and postal_codes. Then, I would like to include this row in the selection, though it doesn't fulfill the conditions. No matter how I changed the codes, it would not give me the results I want.
    PLEASE HELP!!!
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    Welcome to the forum!
    The best way to post your sample data is as CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements.
    For example:
    CREATE TABLE     db_a
    (       Seq_No          NUMBER (3)
    ,     Clt_no          NUMBER (3)
    ,     Ofc_no          NUMBER (3)
    ,     postal_Code     VARCHAR2 (6)
    INSERT INTO db_a (seq_no, clt_no, ofc_no, postal_code) VALUES (1, 123, 1, 'M5T1K3');
    INSERT INTO db_a (seq_no, clt_no, ofc_no, postal_code) VALUES (1, 123, 2, 'N2L4D4');
    INSERT INTO db_a (seq_no, clt_no, ofc_no, postal_code) VALUES (1, 125, 1, 'M3T1L3');
    INSERT INTO db_a (seq_no, clt_no, ofc_no, postal_code) VALUES (2, 456, 3, 'L3T2T3');
    INSERT INTO db_a (seq_no, clt_no, ofc_no, postal_code) VALUES (3, 658, 1, 'O6S3A5');
    INSERT INTO db_a (seq_no, clt_no, ofc_no, postal_code) VALUES (4, 448, 2, 'E4T7A9');
    INSERT INTO db_a (seq_no, clt_no, ofc_no, postal_code) VALUES (4, 874, 4, 'E6Y7I8');
    INSERT INTO db_a (seq_no, clt_no, ofc_no, postal_code) VALUES (5, 741, 1, 'B3T5R5');
    INSERT INTO db_a (seq_no, clt_no, ofc_no, postal_code) VALUES (5, 742, 1, 'O6P7Y7');
    INSERT INTO db_a (seq_no, clt_no, ofc_no, postal_code) VALUES (6, 521, 2, 'P4W3E6');
    INSERT INTO db_a (seq_no, clt_no, ofc_no, postal_code) VALUES (7, 358, 2, 'X3F4V5');
    CREATE TABLE      db_b
    (       Clt_no          NUMBER (3)
    ,     Ofc_no          NUMBER (3)
    ,     postal_Code     VARCHAR2 (6)
    INSERT INTO db_b (clt_no, ofc_no, postal_code) VALUES (123, 1, 'M5T1K3');
    INSERT INTO db_b (clt_no, ofc_no, postal_code) VALUES (123, 2, 'N2L4D4');
    INSERT INTO db_b (clt_no, ofc_no, postal_code) VALUES (125, 1, 'M3T1L8');
    INSERT INTO db_b (clt_no, ofc_no, postal_code) VALUES (456, 3, 'L3T2T3');
    INSERT INTO db_b (clt_no, ofc_no, postal_code) VALUES (658, 1, 'B3T5R5');
    INSERT INTO db_b (clt_no, ofc_no, postal_code) VALUES (448, 2, 'E4T7A9');
    INSERT INTO db_b (clt_no, ofc_no, postal_code) VALUES (874, 4, 'E6Y7I8');
    INSERT INTO db_b (clt_no, ofc_no, postal_code) VALUES (742, 1, 'O6P7Y7');
    INSERT INTO db_b (clt_no, ofc_no, postal_code) VALUES (358, 2, 'X3F4V5');It's good to simplify. For example, your real tables probably have many more columns, but you're only showing the relevant ones. That's great, but be careful that you include all the relevant columns. You first query references columns match_desc and clt_ofc_no from table db_a, but those names didn't appear in your description of the data. (There were separate columns clt_no and ofc_no, but no clt_ofc_no.) Likewise, the query referred to db_b.clt_ofc_no and clt_pszp_cd.
    Always include the results that you want from the sample data you posted.
    This site normally compresses whitespace, so when you post anything formatted (such as output), type these 6 characters:
    \(all small letters, inside curly brackets) before and after each section of formatted test, to preserve the spacing.
    Right now, I have some idea of where you are starting from, but no idea at all of where you want to go, so I can't give you directions.
    I do have three sets of bad directions (your flawed queries), which may be helpful, but that's no substitute for posting the results you want from tha sample data. Scripts are client dependent whereas smartforms aren't.
    Upto 99 main windows are possible in scripts and only one in smarforms.
    To create multiple main windows in scripts, you just have to give the window type as MAIN whnever you create a window.
    Scripts still exists but smartforms are in use from 4.6c version, now the lastest version of these two is adobe forms
    SAP Smart Forms is introduced in SAP Basis Release 4.6C as the tool for creating and maintaining forms.SAP Smart Forms allow you to execute simple modifications to the form and in the form logic by using simple graphical tools; in 90% of all cases, this won't include any programming effort. Thus, a power user without any programming knowledge can
    configure forms with data from an SAP System for the relevant business processes.
    Advantages of SAP Smart Forms
    SAP Smart Forms have the following advantages:
    1. The adaptation of forms is supported to a large extent by graphic tools for layout and logic, so that no programming knowledge is necessary (at least 90% of all adjustments). Therefore, power user forms can also make configurations for your business processes with data from an SAP system. Consultants are only required in special cases.
    2. Displaying table structures (dynamic framing of texts)
    3. Output of background graphics, for form design in particular the use of templates which were scanned.
    4. Colored output of texts
    5. User-friendly and integrated Form Painter for the graphical design of forms
    6. Graphical Table Painter for drawing tables
    7. Reusing Font and paragraph formats in forms (Smart Styles)
    8. Data interface in XML format (XML for Smart Forms, in short XSF)
    9. Form translation is supported by standard translation tools
    10. Flexible reuse of text modules
    11. HTML output of forms (Basis release 6.10)
    12. Interactive Web forms with input fields, pushbuttons, radio buttons, etc. (Basis-Release 6.10)
    Reward Points if useful.

    Hi All,
    what is the difference between drop and create index & rebuild index ? i think both are same...Please clarify if both are same or any difference...
    Thanks in Advance,

    Both are same. Rebuilding an index drops and re-creates the index.

    VARIABLE g_monthly_sal NUMBER
    DEFINE p_annual_sal =5000
    -- I understand that p_annual_sal will be taken as a CHAR.
    -- ALSO IF DEFINE variable acts as macro variable, SO is it necessary to give it some value whenever we define it.
    if not what value would be substituted for it?
    OR does that mean whenever we want to specify data type for a bind varible we should use VARIABLE and
    when we do not want to specify type we use DEFINE?

    Both are SQL*plus commands. In a real programming environment you will not use such constructs (except a few rare scripting cases).
    The difference is how the construct is later used. DEFINE is more like a copy&paste string. Whereever the name of this substitution variable is found it will be pasted into the sql*plus session.
    VARIABLE creates a real variable. You can change the value and if follwos the usual principles of variables (including binding).
    Example can be found the docs:
    from the docs
    Where and How to Use Substitution Variables
    You can use substitution variables anywhere in SQL and SQL*Plus commands, except as the first word entered. When SQL*Plus encounters an undefined substitution variable in a command, SQL*Plus prompts you for the value.
    You can enter any string at the prompt, even one containing blanks and punctuation. If the SQL command containing the reference should have quote marks around the variable and you do not include them there, the user must include the quotes when prompted.
    SQL*Plus reads your response from the keyboard, even if you have redirected terminal input or output to a file. If a terminal is not available (if, for example, you run the script in batch mode), SQL*Plus uses the redirected file.
    After you enter a value at the prompt, SQL*Plus lists the line containing the substitution variable twice: once before substituting the value you enter and once after substitution. You can suppress this listing by setting the SET command variable VERIFY to OFF.
    Using Bind Variables
    Bind variables are variables you create in SQL*Plus and then reference in PL/SQL or SQL. If you create a bind variable in SQL*Plus, you can use the variable as you would a declared variable in your PL/SQL subprogram and then access the variable from SQL*Plus. You can use bind variables for such things as storing return codes or debugging your PL/SQL subprograms.
    Because bind variables are recognized by SQL*Plus, you can display their values in SQL*Plus or reference them in PL/SQL subprograms that you run in SQL*Plus.
    Creating Bind Variables
    You create bind variables in SQL*Plus with the VARIABLE command. For example
    VARIABLE ret_val NUMBER
    This command creates a bind variable named ret_val with a datatype of NUMBER. See the VARIABLE command for more information. (To list all bind variables created in a session, type VARIABLE without any arguments.)
    Referencing Bind Variables
    You reference bind variables in PL/SQL by typing a colon (:) followed immediately by the name of the variable. For example
    :ret_val := 1;
    To change this bind variable in SQL*Plus, you must enter a PL/SQL block. For example:
    BEGIN
    :ret_val:=4;
    END;
    /

  • What is the difference between TO_CHAR and TO_DATE()?

    Hi everybody,
    i am facing a problem in my system.It is quite urgent, can you explain me "What is the difference between TO_CHAR and TO_DATE()?".
    According to user's requirement, they need to generate a code with format "YYMRRR".
    YY = year of current year
    M = month of current month (IF M >=10 'A' ,M >=11 'B' , M >=10 'C')
    RRR = sequence number
    Example: we have table USER(USER_ID , USER_NAME , USER_CODE)
    EX: SYSDATE = "05-29-2012" MM-DD-YYYY
    IF 10
    ROW USER_ID , USER_NAME , USER_CODE
    1- UID01 , AAAAA , 125001
    2- UID02 , AAAAA , 125002
    10- UID010 , AAAAA , 12A010
    This is the original Script code. But This script runs very well at my Local. Right format. But it just happens wrong format on production.
    12A010 (Right) => 11C010 (Wrong).
    SELECT TO_CHAR(SYSDATE, 'YY') || DECODE( TO_CHAR(SYSDATE, 'MM'),'01','1', '02','2', '03','3', '04','4', '05','5', '06','6', '07','7', '08','8','09','9', '10','A', '11','B', '12','C') ||     NVL(SUBSTR(MAX(USER_CODE), 4, 3), '000') USER_CODE FROM TVC_VSL_SCH
         WHERE TO_CHAR(SYSDATE,'YY') = SUBSTR(USER_CODE,0,2)
         AND TO_CHAR(SYSDATE,'MM') = DECODE(SUBSTR(USER_CODE,3,1),'1','01',
              '2','02', '3','03', '4','04', '5','05',
              '6','06', '7','07', '8','08', '9','09',
              'A','10', 'B','11', 'C','12')
    I want to know "What is the difference between TO_CHAR and TO_DATE()?".

    try to use following select
    with t as
    (select TO_CHAR(SYSDATE, 'YY') ||
             DECODE(TO_CHAR(SYSDATE, 'MM'),
                    '01', '1',
                    '02', '2',
                    '03', '3',
                    '04', '4',
                    '05', '5',
                    '06', '6',
                    '07', '7',
                    '08', '8',
                    '09', '9',
                    '10', 'A',
                    '11', 'B',

  • What is the difference between Constant Window, Variable Window,Main Window

    hello all
    what is the difference between 1) Constant Window
                                                2) Variable Window
                                                3) Main Window   in SAP SCRIPT

    Hi,
    Window Types
    When defining a form window, you must select a window type for the window.
    You can choose between three types:
    Constant Windows (CONST)
    Variable Windows (VAR)
    Main Windows (MAIN)
    Constant Windows (CONST)
    Starting with Release 4.0, the system internally processes windows of type CONST similar to windows of type VAR.
    Therefore, if you create a new window, always use type VAR.
    Variable Windows (VAR)
    The contents of variable windows is processed again for each page, on which the window appears.
    The system outputs only as much text as fits into the window. Text exceeding the window size is truncated;
    the system does not trigger a page break. Unlike constant windows, the page windows declared as variable windows may have different sizes on different form pages.
    As far as the processing of the window contents is concerned, the system currently treats constant and variable windows alike.
    The only difference is that constant windows have the same size throughout the form.
    Main Windows (MAIN)
    Each form must have one window of type MAIN. Such a window is called the main window of the form.
    For SAPscript forms, the main window has a central meaning:
    It controls the page break.
    It contains the text body that may cover several pages.
    It allows to fix text elements at the upper and lower margins of the allocated page window (for example, for column headings).
    As soon as a window of type MAIN is full, SAPscript automatically triggers a page break and continues to
    output the remaining text in the main window of the subsequent page. Page windows of type MAIN have the same width throughout the form.
    The SAPscript composer thus avoids reformatting of the text after each page break.
    If a page does not have a main window, the system implicitly processes all other windows of the page and continues with the subsequent page.
    This page must not call itself as subsequent page (recursive call), since this would produce an endless loop.
    In such a case, SAPscript terminates the output after three subsequent pages.
    For printing header lines or totals, the different output areas of the main window are of special importance.

  • What are the differences between Cartweaver CF and PHP?

    I am on my final step of finishing the webpage that I am building and saw Cartweaver for a shopping cart that is compatible with dreamweaver. But I looked into the site and hey didnt give an explanation between the CF and PHP version. So I would like to know the differences and which one would work best with Dreamweaver Cs6.

    Hi Kendall,
    As far as application differences, functionality wise, there is no difference. Both Cartweaver 4 CF and Cartweaver 4 PHP function and present themselves exactly the same. As far as implementation there are very subtle differences due the the way CF and PHP work, but they both are very close and use "includes" to place the Cartweaver functionality in your site penetration pages.  The web based store admins work exactly the same for both.  So you get the same results no matter which direction you go.
    Now what is the difference between PHP and ColdFusion?  That is a very important question as it will impact what platform you use from now on - for this site, and possably future sites you build so this is worth taking a little time to consider.
    Which is best?  Well this could lead to a discussion like which is best Mac or PC?  There are evangelists and zealots on both sides. The real truth of the matter is both are good choices, you just need to decide which is best, for you.  One poster said "what does your host support"  -  good point, but if you are new to working with dynamic web sites and are deciding what platform you want to go with there are more important factors to consider than what your current host supports. You can always select a different host.
    The biggest difference between CF and PHP is they way they are written - PHP is script pasted, much like JavaScript, CFML is tag based much like html. Because of this CFML is often a little easier to learn because it's a bit easier to look at something and figure out what it's doing.  So you may want to take a little time looking at this aspect.
    Fact is though, with either one because Cartweaver does the vast majority of anything to do with code for you, learning the language is something you may not choose to do anyway.  An advantage to PHP is that it has much wider support, so finding developers to help out, or hosts can easier with PHP. So if you don't have any desire to dig in and learn code as you go and only want to learn what's necessary to get your shopping cart site up, then the steps and learning curve are pretty much the same and PHP may be a good way to go.  If this raises more questions than it answerers, let me know I'd be happy to discuss this more with you offline.
    So, back to the basics - from a functionality point, they are both the same. You only need to choose which platform you think will work best for you and go from there.
    I hope this helps. If you have any other questions at all, ask away.

  • What is the difference between closing your macbook & pressing apple-sleep?

    What is the difference between closing your macbook & pressing apple-sleep? My friend aid that it is better to put your computer to sleep by pressing the apple then hitting sleep. I have been just closing it. Is there a difference? Also, is it better to shut your computer down every once and a while. It seems like it gets slow if I just have it sleep after a couple weeks. ALSO, after it has been on sleep every night for a while, my computer has trrouble turning off. I get the problem that says, the application finder has failed to quit try force quitting and try again

    None.
    There's no particular need to shut down the computer except when traveling or moving the computer.
    Whatever other problems you've described have nothing to do with sleeping or shutdown. More likely you need to do some maintenance and/or check that you haven't installed incompatible third-party software.
    Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
    For disk repairs use Disk Utility. For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. TechTool Pro provides additional repair options including file repair and recovery, system diagnostics, and disk defragmentation. TechTool Pro 4.5.1 or higher are Intel Mac compatible; Drive Genius is similar to TechTool Pro in terms of the various repair services provided. Versions 1.5.1 or later are Intel Mac compatible.
    OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep. Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts had been significantly reduced in Tiger and Leopard.
    OS X automatically defrags files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems.
    I would also recommend downloading the shareware utility TinkerTool System that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old logfiles and archives, clearing caches, etc.
    For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the commandline. Note that presently AppleJack is not compatible with Leopard.
    When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
    Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    1. Retrospect Desktop (Commercial - not yet universal binary)
    2. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
    3. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
    4. Deja Vu (Shareware)
    5. Carbon Copy Cloner (Donationware)
    6. SuperDuper! (Commercial)
    7. Intego Personal Backup (Commercial)
    8. Data Backup (Commercial)
    The following utilities can also be used for backup, but cannot create bootable clones:
    1. Backup (requires a .Mac account with Apple both to get the software and to use it.)
    2. Toast
    3. Impression
    4. arRSync
    Apple's Backup is a full backup tool capable of also backing up across multiple media such as CD/DVD. However, it cannot create bootable backups. It is primarily an "archiving" utility as are the other two.
    Impression and Toast are disk image based backups, only. Particularly useful if you need to backup to CD/DVD across multiple media.
    Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
    Additional suggestions will be found in Mac Maintenance Quick Assist.
    Referenced software can be found at www.versiontracker.com and www.macupdate.com.
    Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
    Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
    If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • What's the difference between old SAP appraisal system and the new SAP appraisal system?

    Hi Experts,
    What's the difference between old SAP appraisal system and the new SAP appraisal system?
    Can anyone shed some light please.
    Thanks.

    emgr_update no longer sets or gets the thesaurus from workbench. In 11 all workbench configurations are saved in IFCR configuration directly.
    Hence the thesaurus entry should be added directly in version 11 Workbench as opposed to xml file in older versions.
    And if you want to migrate the changes across environments then import_site script in control directory can be used.
