What's to stop me from keeping Lion Gold Preview as primary OS

I downloaded LION Gold Preview from somewhere , installed clean and it's runnin perfect on my mac book . In few days there will be the real thing for download . What if I just keep Lion preview as Primary OS ? I don't see any expiration date .

My " ill-gotten copy " is ill-uploaded by one of the apple developers and I have NO intentions of keeping it . I am patiently waiting for the real thing like many people .
Cool. This wasn't how it sounded in your original post.  I'm glad to hear you like it.
You may want to ask your friend the Apple developer if you need to do anything different to be able to upgrade to the production version. The upgrade process may not be expecting to see the OS version you have and might not work properly.  Or maybe it will, I don't know.

  • What's to stop people from connecting to my database?

I have an applet that connects to a database and I was just thinking, people could just download the .jar that's in the html source unjar and decompile it. I know I've done it a few times to see how programs work, but my program works with games and compitition, it's something that people are going to try to cheat if they can and it has personal info of other users that they wouldn't want other people to know. With the ip, port and password to connect to my database all in the source code, what can I do to stop people from viewing all the data in database, or sending false data into the database from their own java program?

all in the source code, what can I do to stop people
from viewing all the data in database, or sending
false data into the database from their own java
    program?Not a Java-specific topic, but certainly a concern.
One traditional approach to controlling access is to use multiple users, with database views to isolate the base tables, and grants to prevent updates. For example, if you have a USER_DATA table, you can create a LOGIN_DATA view that only contains the USER_ID column. Grant SELECT on this view to a specific user, and don't grant UPDATE/INSERT/DELETE to that user.
The problem with this approach is that your security code becomes byzantine. Which will probably make you look nto stored procedures for actual updates (or even such retrievals as a password check). This is also a good, traditional way to go, but now your application logic is split into two pieces: some of it lives in the applet, and some lives in the database.
Which will probably lead you to some sort of EJB approach, isolating your database from the end user.

  • How do I stop outlook from keep synchronizing old emails?

How do I stop my outlook - I have office 365 proplus - from synchronizing files from my gmail account? I already have all the files I need and this process keeps going on and it is making my computer slow and it gave me a message of no space available.
     Please help me!

    Hi,
How did you configure your Gmail account in Outlook? Connected to IMAP or POP?
Outlook keeps syncing file may be caused by several reasons:
    Send/receive interval too short
    Stuck message
    Virus scanner integration
    single mail account is hanging

  • Stop firefox from keeping download history

Every time someone has come up with a solution, you guys seem to disable it. I've tried setting browser retention to 0, tried changing to the toolkit download manager and it still saves my download history until I manually clear it.
You used to be able to set how long Firefox would save your browsing history and download/browser history was separate but you seem to be taking more and more control out of users hands.

I want to keep my browsing history (seem to have removed the setting for only keeping it for a certain period too) as it can be sometimes useful but not the download history which is a waste of space.
There have literally been 100s of threads about this same issue since v15 IIRC when you first combined the two and people would find workarounds or about:config edits to FIX your changes, but you seem to keep removing the workarounds, making it worse and worse.

  • As the creator of an interactive PDF form, can I block users from opening it in Preview or web?

I have created a number of interactive PDF application forms which are downloaded from our website and completed by individuals and organisations who wish to apply for funding.
Increasingly we are being contacted by people who are having trouble completing, saving and printing the forms. In almost every case it turns out that they have opened/filled in the form in Preview or in their web browser and the form has been corrupted. As Macs become more and more popular this is going to become a bigger issue, to the point where we may not be able to use interactive PDFs anymore.
We do have a warning at the top of the first page of each form telling people that they need to complete their form using Adobe Reader or Acrobat, with a hyper-link to the web page to download Adobe Reader for free. But this obviously isn't sufficient given the number of people who are still trying to access and complete the forms in Preview.
What I want to know is if there is any way, as the creator of the form, that I can stop it from being opened in Preview in the first place? Or failing that, if it is possible to create a warning that pops up if the form in opened in Preview or a web browser?
If this can't be done I will need to include a detailed technical help page in the form. Rather than starting from scratch, if anyone has already pulled this information together and would be happy to share it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your help (in advance)
    Rachel

You can't prevent it from opening, but you can active the form only if it's being used in a JavaScript-capable viewer. You could show a message (e.g., button, layer) by default, and get rid of it if a script that runs when the form is opened is executed. The script could also enable the fields if everything checks out.

  • Neighbors keep stealing my internet and resetting permissions - I know they are running Lion and I can't seem to stop them from resetting the wifi and firewall options in Maverick. It's killing my internet and driving me nuts.

Hi - I thougth I was crazy but after a full reinstall of Mavericks and I can still see the utility repair fixing problems I know my neighbors are stealing in internet and using it. They keep finding different ways to do it - the only way I know they are doing it is because when I login to the terminal it no longer uses my HD name but some long server looking name. I turned off my wifi and plugged it in directly. This time, after the reset, they modified my firewall permission and reset some ruby framework. I want to know how to stop this from happening. Please help.

More importantly, or at least as important, you must assign a strong password to your router's login. Service providers of DSL and cable have finally wised up and their routers now come with a preassigned and difficult to guess admin password, but not all. Right now, I'm certain it's at a default. Check the manual for your router, but it's probably something like:
    Admin: admin
    Password:
Sometimes it's the other way around. The admin name is blank, and the password is simply "admin".
Do this. From Safari, type this into the URL/search field at the top:
    192.168.0.1
and press Enter. If the defaults are as simple as what I've shown here, that's how they keep getting back in so easily. All anyone has to do is be in range of your wireless signal, type in this same IP address and get into your router settings by using these uselessly easy to bypass admin name and password settings.
Once into your router's settings, they can see what you've changed the wireless login password to, and just login again. What you need to do more than anything is keep them out of your router's settings.
Go into the router's settings as I described using 192.168.0.1 in Safari. Find the wireless settings and turn all wireless off so no one is getting a signal. This will keep them out while you change things.
    1) Change the router's wireless security to WPA2.
    2) Change the wireless password to a new, hard to guess password as steve359 showed. Long, random, obnoxious passwords are best. At least 16 characters long.
    3) Now, go to the admin login page and give the login password an equally long and difficult password. Remember to do all of this with wireless broadcasting OFF, or they will be able to watch everything you're doing.
    4) Now turn wireless access back on. They will no longer able to login to your router to see your wireless access password. Not unless they manage to guess a very hard long and difficult password.
Make sure to write these passwords down so you can get back into the router without manually resetting it.

  • Pkg's made by PackageMaker from Xcode4.2 stopped working after Mountain Lion 10.8.1 upgrade!

We have some pkg's that used to install fine across Snow Leopard, Lion and Mountain Lion.
Those pkg's were made from PackageMaker that came with Xcode4.2.
Since last week's Mountain Lion 10.8.1 upgrade, the pkg's preflight/postflight scripts stopped working
on Mountain Lion machines, but still work with Lion and Snow Leopard.
The current workaround we use is to produce the pkg using PackageMaker that comes from Xcode4.4 auxiliary tools.
These pkg's work fine on all mentioned OS X.
I think this should be either a bug in 10.8.1 upgrade or a change of policy.
    Can someone reproduce and clarify?
    Thanks!

    You are not alone!!
    Same problem with Plantronics.
I just bought their Audio 648 Stereo USB Headset and have exactly the same issue you mention at the outset:
Essentially, while my [Plantronics Audio 648] Headset is recognized in the list of devices in System Preferences > Sound, it doesn't do anything in terms of outputting or inputting audio
So Apple, what are you going to do?...
A lot of third party accessory manufacturers must be getting quite frustrated at the numer of complaints they get from Mac users, when it seems its the Mac OS which is to blame...

  • OK. I have a copyright question. Do I have to put a copyright symbol on each of my photos to protect them from being stolen ? I'm referring to photos of paintings  here. What is to stop readers of the iBook from using the photos?

Ok, I have a question concerning copright. Do I have to put a copyright symbol on every image I use- I'm refering to photos of paintings here. What is to stop readers of the ibook from using my images? They are all my own photos.

You do not HAVE to put a © symbol on each photo. If you own the photos, you hold the copyright. However, nothing stops a viewer from downloading the photo and using it without your permission.
To protect yourself there are alternatives: put a ©2013 by ME in the description of each photo. Always add your copyright notice to the metadata in every photo.
I once had several of my photos taken off the internet and then used in a commercial catalog without my permission. I was outraged, the catalog company was naive, and in the end I received $100 compensation and an apology. - Fabini

It's not a good idea to allow websites to redirect to another site until you know for sure the original site is trustworthy.
But if you still want to do it (again not a good idea).
Tools>Options>Advanced>General - In Accessibility, uncheck "warn me when web sites try to redirect..." option.
