What to do and not do with a new ENVY 17 3D
My ENVY 17 3D (LY336AV) is supposed to be here next Tuesday (4/10/12). I've seen a lot of posts on these boards on driver issues.
Here's my question: In setting up this computer, what should I do and not do?
This is my first HP after about a dozen Dell laptops. Typically I run Windows Update first to get the latest OS components, which sometimes includes drivers for hardware. Should I do so?
I plan to do some light gaming on the machine. Should I install the latest Catalyst drivers?
What about changing the BIOS to make swapping from the Intel to ATI graphics card manual vs. automatic?
Any other suggestions?

I shipped back my Envy 17 the day I got it.
First - it wouldn't power on. I jiggled the battery and finally got it to work.
Second - one of the fans started squealing.
Third - the fan died.
Fourth - Even thought I paid for "in home" service, HP said I had to ship it back to them for repair.
Instead, I returned it and bought a Dell. I've owned 10 Dells and never had that kind of trouble.

Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.
Attempts to sync an iDevice to a new computer will remove all content from the device and replace it with content from the new, empty library. -
if i factory reset my ipod touch(5th gen), can i reset it to the option 'set up as a new ipod', and then i can just go into the app store/itunes store and log into my apple ID so i can just restore my music and apps and not icloud with photos, contacts, ect. and then later i can add contacts that i need/want instead of them restoring them from icloud?
The reason i asked this question is because i have been wondering this a lot ever since i got an exchange on this ipod (and ive only had it for a few weeks now) because my last ipod had a lot of problems. so after i restored my ipod with my computer/itunes, i downloaded apps that i wanted, and then when i went to the storage to see how much storage was left, it said 0 bytes. i was freaking out because i didnt know how that could be, i mean, cause like, that is impossible when i just 'purchased' it, that the space was full but i looked and all my pictures were on this ipod and i already put them on my computer so i dont need them anymore thats why i wanna reset it now so there is nothing on it so i can have more space for stuff to do and download on it.
it is updated to iOS 8 but that happened when i purchased it, so i didnt have a choice to update it even though i didnt want to update to iOS 8...

-sierraHey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. Yesterday when I opened up the iPhoto (which I have it in my external drive due to the size of file) I get the message that it is not compatible with the new system(or something like that) and ask me to upgrade so I did. Then another message pops ups and asked for rebuilding the Thumbnails. So I clicked rebuild. Next it asked me to do one of three things(I can't remember all of them) so I chose the last one which is to download a photo to iPhoto. Now I only have that photo I downloaded in iPhoto file but not the rest of my pictures. The iPhoto library which is stored in my EHD shows it has 349GB but it only show one thumbnail of the last picture I downloaded after the rebuild process. What can I do to recover the rest of the file?

calendars are not syncing with my new iphone 5s. Just ran the diagnostics and all systems checked ok

Check and see what calendar it is being added to. You may see it something that is local to the iPhone or another sync service that is not setup on your computer. Check out the page below to find out more information to sort you out.

The problem is your friend's music does not belong to you. It is owned by your friend.
I'm afraid you cannot do what you are trying to do. Restoring the iPhone is what you would have to do.
In the future, put your music on the computer and transfer it to the iPhone, not the other way. -
need lightroom 4.4 asmac is 10.6.8 and not compatible with anything higher. Does this come with the creative cloud? Would really like a disc but that doesn't seem to happen anymore. Currently have cs4 and d7100 hence need 4.4 to open raw Any ideas? Is this now customer service or does adobe have a customer service team . Site not user friendly. Thanks

No; but then, I've not had occasion to use TDM. I've been using firerwire drives for over 10 years, both FW400 and FW800, with no issues except a bit of instability using a B&W G3 machine.
TDM should be safe. Using cautious, manual copying of files from the Target machine to the Host machine should not result in unexpected loss of files or damage to the Target drive's directories. It should behave exactly the same as if it were an external (to the Host) firewire drive.

There is probably a way to do that - seems to me that's one of the reasons for a Time Machine volume.

I know that using a cloned drive would work well in this instance.
I have no experience with Time Machine, so perhaps someone who has will chime in with suggestions.
With the machine in TDM with the other machine, have you tried running Disk Utility to see if you can effect repairs to the drive? -
I just got my iPad, I have an iPod. When I go to put apps on my new ipad it says my apple ID Is disabled. I have reset the passwords. Somehow I have two id's? I've gone into settings for apps signed out and back in with the new p.w. I can't think of what else to do to get the disabled block off. Any ideas?? Thanks

Very simple. Turn off Find my iDevice, then Tap Settings, General, Erase, Erase all content and settings.

I have a honda civic with USB port which allows play back of my old iPhone 4 and 4s. With the new iPhone 5 the radio shows the phone is conected but does not show any music content. Any Suggestions?
You should be syncing your contacts with an app on your computer or cloud service (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, etc), and not relying on a backup. If you haven't been doing this, start now and then restore your old backup. You will then be able to sync the new contacts back into the phone. However, you will lose all messages, etc newer thant the backup.
