All that I saw was the black bar saying authentication busy. I was not able to restart, I was not able to switch users, I was not able to shut down. I decided to manually shut down my Mac. when it booted back up I was looking at the disk utility screen. When I clicked on repair or race it indicated that my hard drive had already been arranged. I was looking at completely formatted drive and I was having to either restore from Time Machine or reinstall lion. I had a back up but why did this happen?

A possible workaround could be to have the horizontal scroll bar visible all the time.

It sounds to me as though you are attempting to open a Pages 09 document with the Pages 08 application. If you do have Pages 09 on your computer, it may be that for some reason an existing Pages 08 application is invoked accidentally.

When youtube is not my active tab, the video plays in the upper left corner of my screen.

When I attempt to view a video on youtube, it takes several seconds to buffer. Leaving the video to run in the background I navigate to other tabs I have open and while the video buffers, nothing happens. When the video actually starts to play in the tab in the background, the video begins to play in the upper corner of my screen. The video does not to appear to be distorted at all, it's simply shifted from its location in the background tab to the upper left corner of my screen.

When I start up my computer, for a second, a small black icon pops up in the bottom left corner of my screen, and disappears again. What is it?

It appears as soon as I've logged in, and sometime when finder starts up. I'm wondering if this is a common thing to happen, or some malicious software starting up.
It appears to be square looking, but is only there for a second, so It's hard to see.

Could simply be the cursor appearing briefly before the graphical user interface shows up. Is it on a black backdrop, or on the grey Apple backdrop with the spinning cogwheel?

When i try to set a folder, it does not show up on the far left which doesn't allow me to enter any projects in the folder..

In trying to set up a folder, it doesn't appear on the far left but it shows up directly under other projects. Because it doesn't set up on the far left I can't put any projects in the folder.

Currently what I'm doing to set up a folder is go to "new" to create a folder but what I get is a folder that is directly positioned under a symbol such as a project and not out to the left of the other symbols.
Probably you get a folder directly beneath a project, because you have selected that project. But still you should be able to drag the folder to a higher level so that you can move projects into it.
If nothing else helps, switch to "Projects" View (by clicking on the prject icon on top of the Library Inspector) before you select "File -> New -> Folder" . That should create the new Folder at the bottom of your folder list, far to the left, and you should be able to drag projects to it.

That file might have moved to a different location on the server. I think you'll need to check with RefWorks support or your local IT department on why the install page links do not work.

Does Resetting Internet Explorer Maintenance settings from GPO will also remove the proxy set in IE by a third party tool when the GPO refreshes for the first time

We have two GPO's with IE maintenance (Preference Mode Configured)
The settings it has are
1. Automatically detect configuration settings - Set to Enabled.
2. Automatic Browser configuration - Not configured.
We do not have proxy value set in IE through this GPO.
We have proxy set in IE through a third party tool (TPT) which updates the proxy at logon event 5 and 10.
Does Resetting Internet Explorer Maintenance settings from these GPO's also clear proxy set in IE by third party tool after the first GPO refresh.
I am sure the second time when the GP refreshes, the client won't find any IEM settings and hence there is no question of the proxy set in IE by TPT to erase. It is only the first time of the GPO refresh that I am concerned about.
Can someone please guide as I am planning to do the same in our production and concerned about the downtime caused due to the proxy being removed if at all for the first time.

It will disable the proxy server option in Internet Options (untick the box), but will still store your proxy details.

Why, when I click on an email link in Firefox 4, GMail hijacks my browser instead of opening Thunderbird??

Suddenly, anytime I click on an email link in Firefox 4, Gmail opens a popup window. This does not happen if I click an email link in IE 8.0 or Google Chrome. In Tools > Options > Applications, Thunderbird is set as my default in Firefox 4. If I go to Start > Control Panel > Internet Options, Thunderbird is the default email client as well. Clearing cookies and settings did not resolve this problem. What is going on?

I have the same problem, and I also wondered if Google toolbar has anything to do with it. There GMAIL was set as the default mail application at first. I have removed that setting, but Firefox 4.0.1 continues to use GMAIL instead of Outlook which is my selection for mailto handling.

There are 2 settings to check for email programs, one is the Windows default email program which you probably already have set to Outlook. The other is a Firefox setting that determines how it handles mailto links. The second one may be set to Gmail. For details see [[Changing the e-mail program used by Firefox]]

For Firefox you would generally have Use system default if on your system , or choose a web based system such as GMmail

Firefox sent an email to me to confirm that I had asked the above question. The email had a link to click. When I clicked it from Firefox, nothing happened. Then I opened IE, signed into Comcast, opened the email, clicked the link, and it brought me here.
