Regarding your broken, previously authorized computer, here's how that works:
You would authorize your new computer -- maybe you've done that already.  Then you will have two computers authorized.  Apple allows you to have up to five computers authorized at any time.  If you get to five, you can then go to your account details in iTunes and remove all authorizations.
Bear in mind this is not saying you can synch to more tham one library.  Razmee209 and gdgmacguy's comments above are correct.  But if Apple only allowed you to authorize one computer at a time, then having a broken computer would mean you could no longer use your Apple ID with iTunes.

Were these apps downloaded via your own iTunes AppStore account or your friends?

That's correct. iTunes will delete any apps you have not downloaded through your own iTunes account. If you did use your own iTunes account, choose iTunes > File > Transfer purchases... to move the apps into your own iTunes Library.

Re-download the apps through your own iTunes account (pay for them if necessary). Apps cannot be shared between different iTunes user accounts.

    See:
Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device: Apple Support Communities
Basically you will have to transfer its contents to the new computer and then restore the iPod and then resync. An iPod can only sync to one iTunes library.
BTW you posted in the iPod touch forum.

The error means that your antivirus or firewall is blocking the update process.

How do I find out my password to back up and restore my new iphone 6? Its not the same as my iTunes password..

I am guessing you are talking about an encryption password that you placed on the backup you put into iTunes on your computer.
If so, you elected to encrypt your iPhone's backup.  You will need to recall that password, or you cannot access the backup.

  • WD 1TB My World Edition nas will it work as the place for my itunes library

I want to add the WD 1TB My World Edition nas to my network and want to have my itunes library on this drive.
Can I just export the library to this drive or will it have to be "mac formatted"
I want to be able to use the nas with my macs and a sonos system.
    Help please

    see this read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AppleFilingProtocol
when you connect via "afp", a FAT formatted drive will not be recognized, if you connect via "smb", it will be.
it is always better to have drives formatted for Mac when working in an Apple environment.
if you need the drive in both worlds (Mac + PC), install MacDrive on the PC,

  • When iTunes creates an iTunes library, does it copy all of the files?

Or does it just create a pathway to those files? I remember waaaaaaaay back when I tried putting my library into iTunes, it physically copied every single file and filled up my harddrive. That was years ago, granted. But I'm still gunshy about it happening again. I would hope they've fixed it by now.
Also, will iTunes be able to understand where my files are if they're located on an external harddrive? I keep all of my music on a WD Passport external drive and I plug and unplug it a lot. Will it be able to keep up with that these days?
    Thanks.

It depends on how you have iTunes' preferences set. If you just use the default preferences, iTunes will copy any tracks you add into its own library folders. If you want to keep your tracks on your external drive, just turn off the "copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" the iTunes -> Advanced preferences. You will also want to turn off the "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" option in the same preference. Then when you use the Add To Library command, iTunes will link to the tracks on your external drive rather than copying them to the internal.
You'll want to set the location of the iTunes Music folder in that same preference pane to your external drive if you want future purchases from the iTunes Store and imports from CD to be stored on your external as well.
    Regards.

  • I have been using my newly purchased Iphone for Iphonagraphy (Iphone photography).  I would like to sync my Iphone to my external hard drive so I can move photos in and out of my Iphone, to make use of the apps I have exclusively on my phone.

I want to sync my Iphone with the external hard drive so I can move photos from my phone to the hard drive AND BACK!  I'm using a Windows OS

    You have several options:
Connect the phone using a cable to your computer. Use the camera and scanner wizard to import the photos from the Camera Roll, then organize them and sync them back to the Photos app (see: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083). the Camera Roll is intended for temporary storage only.
Save the images to your Dropbox account. It's free, http://www.dropbox.com. There's a Dropbox app for the iPhone, and also for Windows, Mac and Linux. Dropbox can also be accessed using a web browser. Dropbox (and similar services) provide cloud-based storage that can be accessed from anywhere.
    Use Photo Stream
Email or text (MMS) the images to yourself
Create a Picasa or Shutterfly account, save the images to it, then download to your computer
    I'm sure there are others.

    Only bought Mac last April?

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Trying to sync new music i got on my mac which is my new computer to my iPhone and erase and sync is saying it will replace the contents of my phone. Does it mean Photos also or just Music and Videos?

I got a Mac and i downloaded new music on it and im trying to sync the music on this computer to my iPhone which is hooked up to another iTunes and iTunes is saying " An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes Library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this iTunes library" does this mean that it will also erase my photos or just my music and videos ?? if it does is there another way to sync with out all my contents being deleted??

You can only sync one iTunes Library from Mac to iPhone.
And just so are you aware, Apple ID accounts cannot be merged, thus merging content > Frequently asked questions about Apple ID

  • Computer says: "The iPhone is synced with another iTunes library on "localhost". Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?"

    Hi,
I just bought an I-Phone 5S. When plugging it to my Macbook for the 1st time to copy music from my I-Tunes, this message comes up: "The iPhone is synced with another iTunes library on “localhost". Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?"
Pls help. I'm always so scared I can loose all my contacts if i am to answer "yes". Also, why am I being told the IPhone is synced with another ITunes Library when it's litterally not been connected to any at all? I dont get it.
    What shall I do?
    Thanks for your help,
    Myzin.

This would indicate that you bought a Used iPhone and/or have Connected it to another iTunes Library.
By design an iPhone can only sync to One iTunes Library at a time.

  • "all existing apps and their data will be replaced with the apps from.....

..this library" i only have 3 apps showing in the "ipod touch apps" sidebar on the left, and i don't know if i click sync just to get them on the ipod touch, if they will replace EVERY other app on the ipod. before there used to be a list of all the apps i downloaded but its not showing now. and i cant even move around the apps on the screen on the right that shows what the ipod screen looks like.

Thanks MikePremium, but what happens after the sync is that I can see all the apps appear in the "Sync Apps" section, but grayed out, and then iTunes asks for my credentials but then it tells me it can't communicate with the store and to try again later.
If I try to check the "Sync Apps" box, it gives me the same warning message as before about how my apps will be replaced by the apps from "this library".
What do I do now? I synced to iTunes last week. Got a few new apps directly into my IPT since, but now I'm in the same situation as you guys. Now that I think of it, there may have been an iTunes update between the last time I synced and now. I subgrouped many apps and I can see the subgroups on the representation of my IPT in iTunes.
The drag about the message, is that if it DOES replace the apps, some new data in each of these apps will be lost.

  • Itunes library does not appear to be a valid itunes library file

i'm importing AIFF files into itunes, converting those to AAC and deleting the original AIFF files. i tried to import an album of AIFF's and received a message that i didn't have enough hard drive space to import so itunes would import as many of the files as it could. i knew i'd get to this point and would have to transfer some files onto my hard drive. however, when i clicked okay, the computer froze. i restarted manually and received the following message after attempting to open itunes "the file 'itunes library 2009-12-06' does not appear to be a valid itunes library file. itunes has created a new itunes library and renamed this file to 'itunes library (damaged)'." i'm not sure why this happened and i can't find 'itunes library (damaged)' anywhere. i have all my music still i just can't get itunes back to the way it was. please help! thanks so much.

I'll try and make this as concise as possible. Was following another thread that was "archived" without a solution. I randomly will get the error message 1450 "itunes library does not appear to be a valid itunes library - renamed library damaged." I've done everything and I'm at level 2 with phone support. The fixes we've tried seem to solve the problem momentarily but a few weeks will go by and the problem happens again. I loose all my podcasts and have to reload all music. My daughters have a different user account on the same computer and it happens to them as well. We have tried only loading itunes music files and that doesn't fix the problem either. We've reinstalled many times. I have an internal additional hard drive where I store the music but I've tried installing and saving everything on my original drive and the problem happens that way as well. I've read many threads and those of us with this problem aren't finding any answers. Please Apple or someone help with this. I'm ready to change phones and music players.
