When (or how) is a job available as a web service?

We've created a web client application which is able to launch a job from web services. So I create a job with Data Services, but I can't tell how I'm supposed to make the job available to the client.
If I call the job right directly after I create it, then I get a message that the job isn't known. But if I open the Management Console and open the Web Services Configuration tab, then I see my new job and I can call it. If I then create a new job in the Designer, I have to simply perform a refresh on the Web Services Configuration tab in order to be able to call the job.
It seems that the simple act of opening the Web Services Configuration tab enables the job, but I kind of think this means that I'm not doing something right. Perhaps I'm missing a call in the client? Can anyone point me in the right direction (like specific section of a specific document)? All I can find is information on how to generate the WDSL, but I don't think I need that.
I'd really like to eliminate any need to do manual steps between creating the job and calling it.
BTW, we changed the generated code to be more generic so that we wouldn't have to generate it every time we wanted to add a job to web services. So instead of calling the hard-coded get<job-name>_GlobalVariables(), we completely re-wrote the serializer and build the global variables string dynamically.
Thanks for your help.

So you are saying that for any new job you create in the repository, it is added automatically in the Management Console as a webservice ? That's very weird and definitely not what I'm seeing in my environment...
Could this be linked to changes you made ? I didn't fully understand what you mean with your quote below - did you make changes to the Data Services code in the Management Console (???) or just changed the generated WSDL ?

Let's provide some background information on why we need the additional step of enabling a job in the Management Console and not expose any job in the repo as a web service.
We require this additional step for security reasons. We want an administrator to enable only those jobs that can be consumed by external applications. This gives some level of control on which jobs can be executed (so not jobs currently in dev or jobs that load sensitive data, ...).
We've made an enhancement however in the upcoming Data Services  XI 3.1 release (available one of the next weeks) to make this more flexible. And I think this is exactly what you were trying to accomplish with the WSDL modifications. A new generic webservice is provided that can launch any enabled job, together with an operation to get a list of all enabled jobs. So you no longer need to hardcode all the operations for each job in the client application. Additionally we've also added a webservice operation to retrieve the input schema for a real-time job.

    Hi,
    I am currently creating custom timer job to call WCF web service to perform nighty job to update employee document library metadata. If I update regular list/library items it updates correctly on a specified interval basis. However when I try to integrate

    Hi,
    You can use any of the three approaches:-
    1) Access web application's web.config programmatically in Execute() method.
    http://praveenkasireddy.wordpress.com/2012/12/14/access-web-application-configuration-values-in-timer-job-sharepoint/
    2) Store the configuration in xml and upload it to SharePoint document library then read from there
    http://www.sharepointdynamics.net/2011/08/using-an-xml-settings-file-to-store-values-for-your-sharepoint-projects/
    3) Programmatically configure a WCF endpoint.

  • How can I create a query with web service data control?

    I need to create a query with web service data control, in WSDL, it's query operation, there is a parameter message with the possible query criteria and a return message contains the results. • How to disable default logging for workshop web services

    Hi there,
    We have created a web service using WL Workshop that we want to deploy to a production server. The problem is that the destination server is not using a default log4j library for the server, but each application initiates its own library.
    When we try to deploy the web service onto the production server, we are getting an error of a log4j/Appender class not found. We can solve the problem by adding any log4j library to the class path at the beginning, but that will cause compatilibity problems with existing applications.
    Is there any way to disable the default web services logging? It looks like the knex library is trying to instantiate this class at deployment. Any way we can disable that option?
    Thanks

    Thanks David for your reply,
    That is indeed what I am trying to do: to add all required libraries within my web-inf folder.
    But it seems that the server itself expects the log4j library to be loaded when the server is initiated. It looks to me that some server-level listener for the web services is starting together with the domain and tries to access the log4j library. This library is not found because it is inside the web-inf folder of my application.
    I do not see any error while starting the server. The error only appears when trying to deploy the application (ear) with the web service. It seems that I am forgetting something, but unless I include the log4j.jar in the classpath when I start the server, i will not be able to avoid the error.
    Suggestions and tests are much welcome.
    thanks!

    How to integrate Microsoft and SAP using Web Services? If any one has document please send it to me. My id is [email protected]... Please
    Help me
    Best Regards
    Ravi Shankar

    Hi Ravi,
    This is for Customizing Email and Other Web Services.
    Create addresses
    The address maintenance of R/3 users is carried out either via the R/3 User Maintenance (Transaction SU01) or the Private office settings (Transaction SO12):
    Address --> Other communication...
    Selection of the required communication service.
    Enter address.
    Copy or save.
    b) Configuration of SAPconnect (Transaction SCOT)
    Set communication method
    4.0 + 4.5: Goto --> Customizing --> Communication methods
    as of 4.6: Settings --> Communication methods
    Set the method of the required communication service to the value 'SAPCONNECT' and save the setting.
    Customized the same for Internet mailing.
    C) If you want to Transfer Table Structure Values from SAP R/3 to Web Services then
           1. Create BAPI and Transfer whichever things you want.(Note: The Structure
               of BAPI should be similar to Web Structure (Datatypes).
           2. Create a BDC and Schedule it in the Background.
    Hope it helps you, Awaiting for the Reward Points.

  • Unable to get job status via BIP web service

    Hi,
    I'm scheduling a report job using the method scheduleReport of the ScheduleService web service. The method returns the jobId correctly, then I check the job status using getScheduledReportStatus.
    Every time the method returns jobstatus = "Scheduled", but the report is finished. I noticed that BIP schedule a child job with different jobId (why?) and If I use it, the getScheduledReportStatus return a null status.
    Using the method getScheduledJobInfo I have all the information, but how can I get the child jodId ?
    Best regards,
    Alessio

    Hi Alessio
    I know this was a long time ago but i was just taking a chance:
    Quick question: did you get this to work? I can schedule a report using the ScheduleReport sevice, but when i query the status using getScheduledReportStatus, the status remains 'Scheduled', even after the job has run. The job also does not appear in the Job History of the report. The report is set to burst, which it does correctly.
    Do you have any ideas?
    Thanks very much.

  • How to send authentication information to SOAP Web Service using MATE framework

    Hi,
    Can anyone please tell me how to pass authentication info (such as user name & password) while calling a webservice using MATE's webserviceinvoker? the SOAP web service expects authentication info in the header.
    Thanks in advance..

    HI Swayam,
    First of all you should tell us what blogs you have seen to avoid you to repeat information that you already know.
    we want to avoid  setting up SLD configuration for sender system because  sender system is just consuming web service .
    This is not necessary,
    Please let me know  the ways we can configure . I did understand we can publish and register the WSDL from Service interface ,but was not clear on over all  scenario .
    Do you have your ECC webservice available via SOAManager?, you only to access it via soap receiver in SAP PI.
    To publish, you need to publish only the sender SOAP, when you register there the sender soap your partner could access there to get the WSDL (Publish services from PI 7.1 to the Service Registry). Also you can generate directly the wsdl (Display WSDL - Integration Directory - SAP Library), what do you want?

  • How do I create a "document-centric" Web Service?

    By document-centric I'm talking about receiving a SOAP message on the server-side, where the initial parsing and security processing (this aspect is very important) is performed but then allowing the developer to access the delivered "payload", i.e. the XML, and perform whatever mapping/processing that is required without automatically mapping to the "standard" auto-generated Java objects.
    It is important that the client receives the "full" complex WSDL and can therefore generate their proxy classes with whatever tool (or language) that is appropriate.
    On the server side we do not want to create hundreds (if not thousands) of Java Bean clases as we already have the legacy code to map XML to Java. The idea is that JAX-RPC only instantiates the SOAPElements that represent the "raw" message, or, if possible, doesn't instantiate any objects whatsoever.
    I've spent many days now trying to find a single well-worked example for this type of Web Service without success - many, many references of the style "..and you can then create a document style web service.." but without the all important "how".
    From what I've read a custom type-mapping and/or serializer/deserializer could be the answer but again no good, solid examples are forthcoming.
    Another alternative seems to be to create the server side stub-classes using a "dummy" WSDL with the elements set to "anyType" but then distribute the "genuine" WSDL to the clients - we've got a simple example of the kind working but I don't like the idea of "tricking" the system in this way.
    I'm working with WASD 5.1, which in theory conforms with JAX-RPC so any ideas offered here should also apply in that environment.
    Has ANYONE successfully created a service of this type?
    Any help with this issue would be very much appreciated and rewarded (with Duke Dollars of course).
    Chris.

    Chris,
    I too noticed that most vendors take the RPC centric approach. Its because most of the industry examples of how WSs were used were simple enough to implement using RPC and anything more (document literal) would add to the complexity of implementation. This is something that is feared by many developers, especialy the .Net crowd who seem to want everything done through a wizard menu interface and don't care about other WS implementations at all.
    This is sort of changing. J2EE 1.4 is WS-I compliant, so when you compile server side ties from WSDL you can specify a document literal option and WS-I compliance. This gives you access to the SOAPElement objects. There's still issues with going between W3C DOM and SOAP elements but that's just API inconvenience, not a show stopper. As the inudustry develops more complex WSs we will see the vendors change their tools to better support this...
    Anyway, some more help...
    I use the the following wscompile options to build from WSDL for document literal WSs.
    wscompile.bat -d . -nd . -s . -f:documentliteral -f:wsi -keep -model model.gz -import config.xml
    wscompile.bat -d . -nd . -s . -f:documentliteral -f:wsi -keep -model model.gz -gen:server config.xml
    My "wrapper" elements look like this...
    <xs:element name="AComplexXMLResponse">
         <xs:complexType>
              <xs:sequence>
                   <xs:element ref="myNS:MYComplexXMLType"/>
              </xs:sequence>
         </xs:complexType>
    </xs:element>
    If I do this:
    <xs:element name="ASimpleXMLResponse">
         <xs:complexType>
              <xs:sequence>
                   <xs:element name="AName" type="xs:string"/>
              </xs:sequence>
         </xs:complexType>
    </xs:element>
    I still get the JAXRPC language bindings to a string, but in my case I don't really care. This may well be different for you.
    What I do to manage these elements is to split up the WSDL, WS wrapper element definitions and actual data XML schema definitions into separate documents. This means I have a WSDL which IMPORTS my message schema (this is where I define wrappers for in and out XML) which INCLUDES the actual DATA XML schema that I have.
    The WSDL import looks like this:
    <types>
         <xs:schema>
              <xs:import namespace="http://schemaURI" schemaLocation="./relativePath/WrapperElementSchema.xsd"/>
         </xs:schema>
    </types>
    The wrapper element schema has:
    <xs:include schemaLocation="./ActualDataSchema.xsd"/>
    This way I can easily replace the wrapper documents with just anyType references if something doesn want to play nice. The data schema file and the WSDL stay the same. This minimises the impact on what you have to change in your distribution. This is important as the WSDL is often generated on the fly by your WS environment and so can not be easily changed once you build your WSs, but the schema files it references are easily changed without affecting your code.
    Another reason for the wrapper elements was a JWSDP 1.2 issue (I don't know if this has been fixed in 1.3), where if you had the same method parameter signature in a web service (the parameters it took were the same XML types, for instance if you have an add and update methods for the same document input) JWSDP would get confused at runtime. It did not take account of the SOAP action that came along with the request to determine which operation to call. It just took the incoming XML, saw that it was of a certain type and it passed it to the first operation that took this element, which is VERY wrong. By using the wrapper elements, I could give all my input and output elements for each method different names (I used a naming stragegy that appended a 'request' or 'response' string to the method name to form a method parameter element name. This is a pain in the ass, but works and does wonders for interoperability with other WS vendors. Like I said before, I've got this working with JWSDP, BEA and .Net servers and clients.
    Hope this helps,
    If you think there is a real need for a public HOWTO on this, I could write one with a full step by step guideline that shows where I broke my legs getting this stuff to work. But this would eat into my sleep time :-/ TO JUDGE INTEREST I call on all people interested in a tutorial to respond to this thread (esp people involved with the JWSDP WS tutorial documentation). If I get 5 or more different people responding I will loose some sleep for the good of this community. Otherwise, I will just try to help you when I have time to read the forums.

  • How to make a PDF form call Web service and return a static pdf for user to print?

    Hi all,
    Can anyone help me regarding the feasibility of using PDF forms for my following case?
    I would like to create a Dynamic pdf form. User only have the Acrobat reader. they can enter some information. Then have a submit button. when user click the submit button, it can call the web service with data. then Web service returns a Static PDF document based on data and the user can print it out. (and maybe save as separate pdf file)
    1. Is that possible to implement? Because I know PDF can call web service, but dont know how it handle when the webservice returns another static PDF document. could it able to handle the responds and open up in another acrobat reader?
    2. As I understand I need to have Live Cycle Designer to create a pdf  and make it Reader Enabled. So user can user reader to call webservice? am I correct?
    3. What minimum reader that user need to have? PDF reader 7 or above?
    4. I have a webservice serve the same purpose for web. But if I want the same web services can serve both web and PDF form. So, whatever client (PDF or Web)make the web service call, server returns the PDF document to client. Is that possible ? Do I need to make any changes on web service?
    5. Do I need to get any other Adobe server product? (other than Live Cycle Designer )
    Thanks a lot

    We have done a similar approach in the past and yes, it can be doable.
    1. Is that possible to implement? Because I know PDF can call web service, but dont know how it handle when the webservice returns another static PDF document. could it able to handle the responds and open up in another acrobat reader?
    Srini: We have developed a Servlet to talk to Webservice. Based on the Webservice response, the Servlet, prepares the Byte stream and sends it to Webbrowser to display as a PDF. The PDF data was submitted to Servlet in XML format.
    But if you do not want to use the above approach, then you have to use the Workbench Process.
    Submit the PDF data to a Workbench process and the inside process, execute Webservice Service with the data. Once the response is received, prepare the data XML and render a PDF with it.
    To do this, you need LiveCycle Server and Reader Extensions server component.
    2. As I understand I need to have Live Cycle Designer to create a pdf  and make it Reader Enabled. So user can user reader to call webservice? am I correct?
    Srini: If you want to use the Servlet, you can Reader extend the PDF with Acrobat.. But if you want to submit the data directly to Webservice, then you need Reader Extensions server component.
    3. What minimum reader that user need to have? PDF reader 7 or above?
    Srini: Not sure but Reader 8 and above should work.
    4. I have a webservice serve the same purpose for web. But if I want the same web services can serve both web and PDF form. So, whatever client (PDF or Web)make the web service call, server returns the PDF document to client. Is that possible ? Do I need to make any changes on web service?
    Srini: If you use the Servlet approach, then you can re-use the same webservice. But if you want to submit directly to the same webservice, you may need to change it to suit your data XML.
    5. Do I need to get any other Adobe server product? (other than Live Cycle Designer )
    Srini: If you use the Servlet approach, you do not need any server component but other approach, you need Livecycle Server and Reader Extensions server component.
    Thanks
