Where are the Linux kernel parameters?

I have successfully installed ORACLE on red hat linux 5.0
even though I didn't set the kernel parameters.
On Solaris these parameters can be set in the /etc/system file.
Where do you set SHMMAX and the kernel parameters in linux?
I could not find a similar file.
Please enlighten me.
Thank You
Be careful with environment variables!
run the root.sh script after installation!

: Hi Mark.
: You have to install the Kernel-Sources and Include-Files.
: Just look in
: /usr/include/asm/*shm*.h
: and change the parameters. After this re-create the kernel with
: cd /usr/src/linux
: make clean && make dep && make && make modules && make
: modules_install
: and install the kernel-file (lilo/bootlin....).

Kernel Parameters?
From: Bolen Coogler (guest)

The Oracle install instructions mention setting various kernel
parameters, such as:
SHMMAX 4294967296 (0x100000000)
SHMMIN 1
SHMMNI 100
SHMSEG 10
SEMMNS 200
SEMMNI 70
SEMMSL
While setting these parameters is VERY important in HP/UX or
Solaris, I haven't the slightest idea if this is really applies
to Linux. Does anyone know if tweaking these and other kernel
parameters matters in Linux? If so, where do you make these kind
of changes? (/usr/src/linux/include/linux/<something>.h ?)
My initial impression is the Oracle on Linux documentation is
converted Solaris boilerplate (i.e. %s/Solaris/Linux/g).

  • IOS7 mail search results appear to be random by date also where are the search parameters, from to etc..? help!

    Mail search returns results by random date. Where are the mail search parameters, from,to,etc?

    This is really annoying. Mail search on iOS 7 never worked, either on iPhone
    4S or on iPad.
    Search results are not sorted in any perceivable order. I get totally random results, with messages dating 4 years back jumping to yesterday and so on.
    I have never seen Apple to respond to this issue with earnest feedback, and users are often dismissed.
    I used to have to resort to my Macbook Pro to get decent results, but due to the many mail app problems on OSX, I do not rely on it anymore.
    Can Apple please give feedback to this search issue on the IOS devices? It is really, REALLY crippling.

  • [Solved]The linux kernel with build in bootloader?

    First of let me apologize if I'm making no sense at all. This isn't really my area of expertise.
    I just recently stumbled upon some rather interesting "news" about the linux kernel developers working to implement a an EFI/GTP (I think) bootloader in the kernel it self. I would very much like to know if this is actually true, I'd like to learn more and follow the development, but I haven't been able to find any relevant information, appart from the incomplete mailing list I stumbled upon.
    I suspect that I'm simply using the wrong search parameters. Again, it's not like I know too much about what I'm doing.
    In any case, if you have even the slightest idea what I'm talking about, please do guide me in the right direction.
    Best regards.

    Thanks to the info and links the.ridikulus.rat provided, I've now learned a bit more about this stuff (I'm probably still missing a lot ). Basically, rEFIt is a manager that launches bootloaders. With EFI_STUB, the kernel is it's own bootloader, so what you say is indeed possible - start linux from rEFIt without going through grub/syslinux. Well, it would be possible if there wasn't for one huge problem - rEFIt doesn't allow passing options, which is needed in this case. But that's where rEFIt's fork (rEFInd) comes into play.
    Further, there are patches on the kernel mailing list that will make it possible for an EFI_STUB kernel to read options from a file. Then not even rEFInd will be needed. Strictly speaking it isn't needed even now, but you need to type the options manually on the efi shell, which isn't very convenient. Fun stuff all this, innit? . It's a whole new crazy world.
    Cool, thanks for the pro-active research!

  • Why Firefox for Android is causing The Linux kernel to send data packets to random sites?

    I've recently installed CyanogenMod on my Nexus 5. Shorty after installing CyanogenMod I decided to install Firefox on my device from here:
    https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=org.mozilla.firefox
    Afrer installing it I decided to install a frontend application for IPtabels from here:
    https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=dev.ukanth.ufirewall
    After installing it I blocked some applications from accessing my data networks, including The
    Linux kernel. After some hours passed I took a look at the firewall log and I noticed that the firewall
    has blocked several data packets from accessing the internet. The log also showed the IP addresses where
    the data packets were being sent. I decided to find out to whom these IP adresses belonged. The results were
    rather strange. One particular IP belonged to a French ISP, one on the other hand belonged to a Finnish ISP.
    Finally I found one IP that made some sense. That IP belonged to Mozilla. However, at this point I couldn't be sure
    that Firefox was causing this behaviour. So I did a little test. I re-installed CyanogenMod on my Nexus 7.
    I connected my Nexus 7 to my WiFi-network at my home and I installed the same frontend application for IPtables
    on my device. I configured the firewall the same way I did for my phone, so The Linux kernel was also blocked
    from accessing any data networks. I surfed the web with my device and did some other things with it. I also checked the
    firewall log from time to time, and no applications showed up in the log. So I installed Firefox on my device. And immediately
    after installing it The Linux kernel was trying to send data packets to the same IP addresses. Now I was almost completely sure
    that Firefox was indeed causing this strange behaviour.
    Here are some addresses where The Linux Kernel was trying to send data packets:
    69.50.225.155
    63.245.217.219
    72.167.239.239
    23.43.139.27
    74.125.232.107
    193.229.109.41
    63.245.217.160
    94.23.204.140
    Conclusion:
    *I downloaded CyanogenMod from the projects official site and I checked the md5sums of the files
    I downloaded before I flashed anything onto my device
    *I installed all the applications on my devices (including Firefox) from here: https://f-droid.org
    *I didn't do anything stupid with my devices so I dont' think that they were infected with malware
    *I changed Firefox settings so that it didn't share any data with Mozilla
    So I'd like to have some answers to the following questions:
    1)Why Firefox is causing the Linux kernel to send data to these IP addresses and is there any way
    to turn this "feature" off?
    2)Do the other versions of Firefox and other Mozilla software (Thunderbird etc.) also include this form of snooping?

    * 69.50.225.155 - belongs to the EFF, you likely have https everywhere installed
    * 63.245.217.219 - aus4.vips.phx1.mozilla.com - Extension update check
    * 72.167.239.239 - a1plpkivs-v03.any.prod.ash1.secureserver.net - some GoDaddy hosted site - extension?
    * 23.43.139.27 - a23-43-139-27.deploy.static.akamaitechnologies.com - I don't know, Akamai is a world leader in geo distributed websites/services
    * 74.125.232.107 - Google - search suggestions or malware/phishing protection database updates
    * 193.229.109.41 - not registered to any website - searching seems to suggest it is owned by https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elisa_%28company%29 possibly your ISP or Mobile data provider
    * 63.245.217.160 - addons-versioncheck-single1.zlb.phx.mozilla.net - extension update check
    * 94.23.204.140 - something related to f-droid.com

  • Where is the "blur kernel" one click deblur in Photoshop CS6?

    Where is the "blur kernel” one click deblur in Photoshop CS6? (Pretty sure it’s not there.)
    Is deblur still in development? Or was it killed? Is there any status update on the progress of the deblur function? An overwhelming majority of the information available reference the same October 2011 Adobe Max conference demo.
    (Adobe showed off the new deblur prototype at its Adobe Max conference in October during a set of feature sneak peeks...)
    The way the feature was described was:
    "The prototype feature uses a computer algorithm to analyze how the image was blurred and then creates what Adobe called a "blur kernel." After the kernel is generated, it can show you information such as what the motion trajectory of the camera was while the shutter was open -- causing the blur in the first place. The next step is to simply hit a "restore sharp image" button and the photograph is fixed."
    It was cited by some sources as being an upcoming Photoshop CS6 feature while other sources were more vague with statements resembling "It's not clear if or when the new unblur feature will make it into a future version of Photoshop, as the company warned all sneak peek features were just prototypes with no concrete product plans."
    Where is the latest with the Adobe Photoshop "blur kernel” and the Adobe Photoshop one click deblur feature?

    one of the things I think about as an engineer is that in order for something like this to work,  you should probably start with manuals adjustments to processing the the out-of-focus blur first. after you have finished with this, you can do the motion blur.  I would have to really think hard about it to see if there is an algorithm such as a kernel or something to convert an image into a path. one problem is you are stuck with the image boundaries. if they weren't there, things would be so much easier (but it would also take infinitely long to process).  the image boundaries MIGHT skew the kernel, depending on how you handle the boundaries (for example, usually you just assume those values are black or 0's, or you may choose a 50% gray, whatever fits best with the kernel you are working with).
    adobe may be on to something there, but they only had half of the equation with the idea.
    I used to tinker with image processing many yarns ago back for fun in BASICA/GWBASIC.
    if you have the kernel
    [-2 0 2]
    [-2 0 2]
    [-2 0 2]
    which amplifies vertical lines, you would want to handle the boundaries by processing them as 0's.
    NOTE TO ADOBE: it might start getting into Machine Vision technology when you start doing the path recognition. or AI.
    if you can get the imge into a path kernel, it's essentially a bitmap of a path.  you can trace that path using akima spline curves. (will lose 1-2 samples off each end), but the tracing program might just exist out there somewhere.  just google "bitmap to akima spline curve".  and akima spline curve has all the
    points along its path, unlike a bezier. I like akima spline curves, I have been trying to get ps engineers to use them for a while for good reason. this is one of them.
    there are also cubic splines as an alternative.
    chances are that the curve will have rounded corners due to the weight of the camera.
    now that you have the path,it's simply a matter of taking samples along the curve wherever you want. (usually in an array which you can linearly inerpolate across the points in the array for simplicity if you want)

  • Checking Linux Kernel Parameters before installation

    Hi Everyone.
    I am planning to install Oracle 10g XE and I know that with the installation kernel parameters will change. As I don`t know what will happen that in relation to the system, I would like to check default kernel parameters. I know it`s a Linux question but it`s indirectly related with the installation. So... I want to save that information if something goes wrong.
    Can you help me?

    Hi.
    Thanks for the clue.
    I did:
    less /etc/sysctl.conf
    and the output is:
    # Kernel sysctl configuration file for Red Hat Linux
    # For binary values, 0 is disabled, 1 is enabled. See sysctl(8) and
    # sysctl.conf(5) for more details.
    # Controls IP packet forwarding
    net.ipv4.ip_forward = 0
    # Controls source route verification
    net.ipv4.conf.default.rp_filter = 1
    # Do not accept source routing
    net.ipv4.conf.default.accept_source_route = 0
    # Controls the System Request debugging functionality of the kernel
    kernel.sysrq = 0
    # Controls whether core dumps will append the PID to the core filename.
    # Useful for debugging multi-threaded applications.
    kernel.core_uses_pid = 1
    # Controls the use of TCP syncookies
    net.ipv4.tcp_syncookies = 1
    I don`t recognize here any of the kernel parameters listed in the installation guide for Oracle 10g XE. http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/xe/files/install.102/b25144/toc.htm (2.1.3 Server Component Kernel Parameter Requirements)
    what do you mean with backup? Just copy&paste the output? If not I do I perform backup?
    Can you help me?
    thanks,
    Kind Regards

    No, it's not under heavy development, it is almost complete. The only missing part is the "dalayed allocation". The on-disk format, as I've already said, shouldn't change anymore.
    With this patch series, it is expected that ext4 format should be settling
    down.  We still have delayed allocation and online defrag which aren't
    quite ready to merge, but those shouldn't affect the on-disk format.
    I don't expect any other on-disk format changes to show up after this
    point, but I've been wrong before....  any such changes would have to
    have a Really Good Reason, though.
    Source: http://lkml.org/lkml/2008/1/21/392
    If you read this carefully, you don't want to use ext4 just now. You also should consider that ext4 is virtually untested compared to filesystems like ext3 which has been used for years in many production environments. I wouldn't read "I don't expect any other on-disk format changes" as "There will be no more changes" if I had important data.
    brain0 wrote:Second, we don't have a single filesystem built into the kernel, they are all modular - and I don't see a reason why this should ever change.
    I remembered some filesystems were "built-in". Evidently I remember wrong (well... and I remember the filesystem for the root partition had to be built into the kernel, but my knowledge on this point is not very updated).
    You're so 90's. If we would build everything into the kernel that everyone needed to boot, it would be 5MB or 10MB instead of just 2MB. Everything is as modular as possible now (there are some exceptions which should be ironed out in one of the next releases).

    Hello
    I understand that under mavericks, diagnostic reports are supposed to be found either in
    /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/ (System Diagnostic Reports),
    or in
    ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports (User Diagnostic Reports).
    Unfortunately, even after a number of crashes, they aren't. While in my case, the system DiagnosticReports folder exists, but contains nothing but powerstats, in the user library, not even the folder is there.
    So, either they are elsewhere, or they aren't being generated. In the first case, my question would be: Where are the diagnostic reports? In the latter, it would be: Why aren't there any (despite the system crashes)?

    You cannot use iCloud Storage to suppliment your iPad. They are mainly used to backup iPad.
    Free up space on iPad
    Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Delete what is not needed to free up space on iPad.

  • Where are the drivers?

    Alright it's probably a stupid question but I just bought a new mac that came with leopard.I used boot camp to partition and install windows vista on my new mac. Everything worked fine until I had to install the drivers.I don't know where the drivers are. They supposed to be in the leopard dvd that i don't have. Where are the drivers?

    Hi Obe7,
    the Mac OSX install disc that you used to install Leopard on your Mac is a 'hybrid'-disc, which contains an OSX part (only visible while in OSX) and a Windows part (only visible while in Windows).
    The BootCamp 2.0 drivers are on the Windows part of that disc.
    While in Windows insert that disc and usually the driver installation starts automatically.
    If not, use the Windows Explorer to navigate to the disc and start the 'setup.exe' file manually.

  • Where are the older BIOS versions gone?

    Hi
    A few weeks back, I've upgraded the BIOS on my Pavilion G6 1001sq to the latest version (F66). I noticed that the laptop is running considearbly hotter since then and I want to revert to an older BIOS version. When I go to the updates page on the HP website and click on "older versions available" I can only see the F66 version on the page I'm directed to ( http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/previousVersions?softwareitem=ob-115746-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4... ), although a long list with many versions was available till recently. Where are the older versions gone?

    Unfortunately, I do not know where they have gone. HP is working on issues with the suport and driver servers at the moment.
    Since your notebook does have the UEFI Diagnostics installed, you should be able to rollback to the previous version that was installed. Use the firmware management option to do that.
