Where is default JRE

I hear that most systems come with a JRE, hence the annoyance at Win XP for not doing so, but where is it?
on my mates PC, who hadn't downloaded JRE seperately, .jars have no file association, there's no java or sun folder in prog files or C:\.
Shish

The M$ VM is actually called jview on most windoze systems - and like DrClap said it can be found from the system directories (you can call it from the command line without any setting up). You'll probably find java.exe and javaw.exe there, too - they are a part of the sun's JRE (the installer places a copy of the modern VM there, which is a Good Thing - no need to set any environment variables to run apps :)

  • How to make JRE1.5.0 the default JRE

    Hi all,
    I have downloaded JRE1.5.0 and put it into the /usr/java folder where SJDS default JRE also is located. Then I went to -> Launch -> Preferences -> Java. In the Plug-in Control Panel I went to -> Advance, but JRE1.5.0 is not listed there. I clicked on Other and linked to /usr/java/jre1.5.0 and applied the change. But if I check java -version from the command line it is still the jre1.4.2_02 version.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Stephan

    The command line java will still pick up the one in your path:
    #which java
    /usr/bin/java
    and as you can see that is a link:
    #ls -la /usr/bin/java
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 28 2004-04-20 11:41 /usr/bin/java -> ../java/j2redefault/bin/java
    So this is the link you'll have to change
    #rm /usr/java/jdredefault
    (you have to remove the old link first or the next command will create a link inside the /usr/java/j2re1.4.2_04/ directory!)
    #ln -s /usr/java/jdk1.5.0 /usr/java/j2redefault

  • How to change the default JRE when there are several version of JRE in Sys

    How to change the default JRE when there are several version of JRE in System?
    i have installed j2sdk1.5.0 then installed j2ee1.4,then installed Weblogic6.1 which use jdk1.3
    Now the JRE is jdk1.3\bin
    When run class that was compiled with jdk1.5,throw:
    java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError
    How can i change the jre to 1.5?

    There is a workaround to move from 1.5 version to the older 1.4 version. But this could be specific to the browser setting the JRE version.
    Excerpts from sun docs:
    However, a user can still run older versions. To do so, launch the Java Plug-in Control Panel for the older version, then (re)select the browser in the Browser tab.
    Example:
    Assume you are running on Microsoft Windows with Microsoft Internet Explorer, have first installed version 1.4.2, then version 5.0, and you want to run 1.4.2.
    Go to the j2re1.4.2\bin directory where JRE 1.4.2 was installed. On a Windows default installation, this would be here: C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2\bin
    Double-click the jpicpl32.exe file located there. It will launch the control panel for 1.4.2.
    Select the Browser tab. Microsoft Internet Explorer might still appear to be set (checked). However, when 5.0 was installed, the registration of the 1.4.2 JRE with Internet Explorer was overwritten by the 5.0 JRE.
    If Microsoft Internet Explorer is shown as checked, uncheck it and click Apply. You will see a confirmation dialog stating that browser settings have changed.
    Check Microsoft Internet Explorer and click Apply. You should see a confirmation dialog.
    Restart the browser. It should now use the 1.4.2 JRE for conventional APPLET tags.
    Details are here
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/deployment/deployment-guide/jcp.html
    My system (Windows XP) has the version 1.5_09 set as the default. However i just installed JRE 1.5_06 and would like to revert back to _06 as the default JRE..
    Will update if i find more information

  • How to know default JRE from registry

    Hi
    What could be the way to know the default JRE being used by the browser. I mean if I have installed jre 1.3.1 and jre 1.4.1. and in control panel I set 1.3.1 as the jre to be used by the browser.
    I want to know through my program that which is the current jre in use. I just want to know what key value from the registry is to be read.
    rgds

    Hello,
    The key to look for is :
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE "SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\" "CurrentVersion"
    From the value contained in CurrentVersion, you will be able to look into the corresponding sub keys if you want to know the exact location of your jre. Just browse through your registry and you'll see what I mean.
    Moreover, if for some reason there is no jre installed, you might want to check the presence of a jdk "...\JavaSoft\Java Development Kit\"
    Hope that helps

  • Anybody know where the default templates are stored?

    I'd like to access the location where the default templates are stored. I've checked in: "Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Logic" but did not find anything.
    I see that user templates are in: "Macintosh HD/Users/PROFILE/Library/Application Support/Logic/Project Templates"

    The assigned solution to this problem is false. The answer is that they are stored here:
    /Users/[username]/Music/Audio Music Apps/Project Templates
    That is not correct.
    User Project templates are stored in the location you stated but the Default Project templates, which is what the OP asked about,  are stored within the app as Blueberry stated....
    Note the path I highlighted......

    Though it seems odd, registry changes can be applied more easily ..So, given the choice
    change the HTML on the server, once for each applet, or
    change the Windows registry database on the client PCs, once for each client PC
    you would go for changing the Windows registry database on every client PC.
    Interesting.
    What about client PCs that have a different operating system?
    Do you know which registry changes have to be applied ?I do not know for sure there is a way to do what you want,
    it would not be the option I would go for.
    I am not in the habit of advising people to make arbitrary changes to the Windows registry database,
    maybe you can find someone who will investigate this for you on a microsoft support forum
    or on rentacoder or some such site.

  • Where the default&smartbar.mmx is?

    I want to replace current menu with "default&smartbar" menu when tab is changed.
    So I applied replace_menu('default&smartbar'). but It does not work.
    replace_menu('custom') worked well.
    So I inspected the directory of WAS server.
    but i found out nothing but only custom.mmx
    where the default&smartbar.mmx is?

    You canot edit default&smartbar menu. Because thats oracle default internal menu.
    But if you want you can get a copy of $ORACLE_HOME\cgenf61\ADMIN\OFGMNUT.mmb menu and then modify it to your requirements.
    That form has same menus and functions as default&snartbar menu.

  • Can you get Netscape launch with different default JRE Plugin versions?

    Does anyone know how to do this?
    OS: WinNT4
    Browser: Netscape 6
    Situation:
    We want to standardize on JRE 1.4.1 but some of our clients web applications use JRE 1.3.1 and they won't run with the newer VM. So I need to launch Netscape with default plugin as 1.3.1 for some apps and default plugin as 1.4.1 for others.
    Ideally, I would like to run a client logon script that makes a registry change to set the default JRE plugin to either 1.3.1 or 1.4.1 BEFORE Netscape launches and goes to our client URL.
    Does anyone know which reg keys does this? Is there a better way?
    Thanks.

    You can specify the JRE through the MIME type:
    http://devedge.netscape.com/viewsource/2002/markup-and-plugins/
    "You can invoke the Java plugin for Netscape 7 and other Mozilla-based browsers by using the appropriate Java MIME type. Here is an example:
    <object type="application/x-java-applet;jpi-version=1.4.1_01"
    width="460" height="160">
    The above code mentions a version specific MIME type, and if the Mozilla-based browser such as Netscape 7 doesn't have JRE 1.4.1_01 installed, the alternate text is displayed."
    Maybe that's something that you can use here.

  • What is the default JRE?

    I installed JRE 1.4.1 and then 1.4.2_04 (in that order) on a Windows 2000 system.
    Under About tab in Java Control Panel it says the default is 1.4.2_04.
    What determines which one is the default? Is there a way to change it?
    On a Windows NT system I installed 1.4.2_04 and then 1.4.1 JRE in that order.
    The default according to the About tab is now 1.4.2_04.
    My conjecture based on the Windows 2000 behavior is that he last one
    installed becomes the default. Evidently, this is not true base on the Windows NT behavior.

    If you want to run Java applications (as opposed to applets) with other than the default JRE version, you need to use the full path to the version of java that you want to run with. For example:
    C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.4.2_06\bin\java.exe <your JavaClass>
    To change which Java Plug-in version is used by a browser to run applets, open Windows' Control Panel and select the Java Plug-in. On the Advanced tab is an area "Java Runtime Environment" and in that is a drop-down box that probably says "Use Java Plug-in Default".
    This dd box allows the user to select the version of the Java Plug-in that s/he wishes to run with. Note that after a change in this parameter, ALL browser windows must be closed for the change to take effect.
    Some versions of the Java Plug-in are somewhat different. There is documentation for each version, if needed. Here is a link to the 1.4.2 information:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/plugin/developer_guide/control_panel.html#advanced

  • Get default JRE version...

    If several versions of Java were installed in a client machine,
    and in IE -> Internet Options -> Advanced Tab only one is enabled / checked.
    How to get the default / checked JRE version in JSP ?

    They are called Java SERVER Pages for a reason. They run on the server, not the client. The client machine is completely irrelevant to JSP/Servlets, so what version of java you have installed their doesn't matter at all.
    Unless of course you want to run an applet. Whereas you put the appropriate constraints into your applet/object tag.
    Check out this page: http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/1.3/docs/tags.html

  • Where is default icons location in oracle form 10g

    hi,
    Can anybody please tell me, where is the default(given below) icons location in oracle form 10g. I want to user that icons in my form.
    Image: !c:\icons.gif!
    thanks
    mohan

    Hi,
    Is your problem solved?
    This issue occurs because gif images by default are not still images. These are graphical interchange images, i.e. images depicting some kind of action/motion.
    If I am not wrong then just to test this out if you open the gif image you are looking at, in pbrush then image will appear in a corner. Now if you modify that image such that you copy only the icon in the corner and then save the copied icon in a new file in gif format then you will be able to see that image in the centre of button, rather over complete button.
    Hope this helps!

  • Where is Default Page stored in Database?

    Could anyone direct me to where a users default page is stored in the database?
    Thanks

    It is one of the preferences (browser.startup.homepage) stored in the prefs.js file in the profile folder. That file stores the majority of your user set preferences.
    Why not just set the home page in the other profile by using the options dialog - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page

  • Where is default photo?

    where is the default/display picture kept?
    the small one of me that is on ichat and in mail and most other places.
    it was taken with the video cam and i would like to manipulate it and use it for other things.

    The default user pictures are kept in the root library. Here's the path:
    Macintosh HD/Library/User Pictures/
    These are the butterfly, dog, soccer ball, etc., pictures that are default on OS X for the user. As for custom pictures, they can be anywhere but are most likely in your user pictures folder (the one in your home directory).

  • Where the default location of generated source files?

    Hello!
    In my processor I create several source files and check it's names for existance before
    private String genClassName( final String packageName, final String key, final String suffix )
            final StringBuilder suggest = new StringBuilder( packageName ).append( key ).append( suffix );
            final Elements elementsUtil = processingEnv.getElementUtils();
            int i = 0;
            while( elementsUtil.getTypeElement( suggest ) != null )
                suggest.append( i++ );
            return suggest.substring( packageName.length() );
        }If I not define -s option for javac at first time compile and then set it to some location, then some generated before files are visible for this method and numbers added.
    So, the question: where to find a default "shadow" source tree to clean up it before next compilation with changed -s option?
    Sorry for my english and thanks for answers
    Edited by: Maxoid2 on Jun 3, 2008 10:34 PM

    The directory to clean up is where the -s option pointed to last time.
    The simplest way to do this is to always use the -s option and don't change it. Using the default value for -s option (which is the same as -d) tends to lead to problems. I always specify -s option, and make it different to -d option and -sourcepath.
    If you do this you don't even have to clean it up, javac only looks in there for files that it placed there. Files from previous builds get overwritten. Files from previous builds that are not overwritten are ignored.
    with a separate -s directory, it just works.
