Where is Mysql?
Hello,
I have a powerbook G4 with operating system MACOSX Tiger (Version 10.4.5).
Apache is already default in the system; I also activated php, already present in the system, following some instructions found on the Internet to modify file config.php of Apache and everything was ok....the last problem: Mysql!!
The phpinfo() page tells me I have MySQL v4.1.13a as follows:
enabled
Active Persistent Links 0
Active Links 0
Client API version 4.1.13a
MYSQLMODULETYPE external
MYSQL_SOCKET /var/mysql/mysql.sock
MYSQL_INCLUDE -I/usr/include/mysql
MYSQL_LIBS -L/usr/lib/mysql -lmysqlclient
My problem is that php thinks I have Mysql installed but I can't find it. I have looked for it in all folders visible or hidden in the system (spending hours..)but I can find nothing of mysql(while I have easily found the folder of php).
I tried to bypass the problem making a script in php to create a trial database
<?php
$db=mysql_connect("localhost", "", "");
$database = 'devtest';
$istruzione= mysqlcreatedb( $database, $db);
mysql_query($istruzione);
?>
When I open browser and I dial: localhost/proveweb/create_db.php
it appears:
Warning: mysql_connect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) in /Library/WebServer/Documents/proveweb/create_db.php on line 10
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mysqlcreatedb() in/Library/WebServer/Documents/proveweb/create_db.php on line 12
Is there an error with script or isn't Mysql there?
Can anybody help me to solve this problem?
Thank you for any suggestions
santinac
Sounds like you're running just standard Mac OS X (not OS X Server).
MySQL is not installed by default on Mac OS X (it is preinstalled on OS X Server, located at /usr/bin/mysql, use /Applications/MySQL Manager.app to start it).
You'll have to install MySQL yourself. Download a package from MySQL's site.
The package from MySQL's site will, if I recall, put the socket file in /tmp, so you'll need to change your php.ini file so that it looks for the MySQL socket in /tmp/mysql.sock.
After that, you should be fine.

Hello all - I'm running OS X Server 10.4.xx and I'm trying to set up MySQL Service. I haven't found any way of informing the Web Services control panel that there is MySQL running (which there is according to Applications > Services > MySQL Manager) and all my reading suggests that there is no way of administering MySQL with the GUI. What's more is I'd like to configure PHP (which is installed as a module in Web Services) to find the MySQL installation. Is the GUI going to help me do this or am I looking at doing a manual configuration? What can you guys tell me about this situation that will make my life easier...
Apple does not provide a GUI admin tool for MySQL or PHP. As you found, you can start and set a root password for MySQL with the MySQL Manager. PHP can be enabled in Server Admin for use in Apache. Beyond that, roll you own configuration with the very capable command line tools or you can take a look at phpMyAdmin (http://www.phpmyadmin.net/).
I believe that is what you are looking for.
Hope this helps -
Where can i see the .mdf or .ldf files for mysql database?
Hi i have created a database in mysql workbench. Now i want the .mdf or .ldf files for my project deployment. where can i see this files in my folders. I have searched in this folders.
C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.6\data.
Couldn't find the data's here. Please Help. Actually i don't know i am on the right path. Or please tell me how can i create it?I think mysql has a different file structures than MS SQL. May be this link will help you

Problem in jdbc-tomcat-mysql connection
hi everybody
i m in serious problem since last 15-20 days. i m trying hard to make the connection jdbc-mysql using tomcat with the help of a jsp test page but every time i am facing almost the similar probems listed below in detail:
to make sure that the jdrivers's .jar (mysql-connector-java-3.1.7-bin.jar) available for such connections working fine i have tried the above said connection without using tomcat....which is working fine...for this i have created a dummy database with a dummy table ..and written some queries in the .java file of my code which upon running inserts the specified values in the defined(dummy) database.
this is the confirmation that the classpath etc..are ok in regard to the mysql-connector-java-3.1.7-bin.jar
now i have placed a copy of this .jar file in to the commons/lib directory of the tomcat web server(which is suppossed to be the place for such external jars)
after doing so i have followed 2 methods :
method 1st:........
i have made aone more jar file from the following .java file....
import javax.naming.*;
import javax.sql.*;
import java.sql.*;
public class TestSQLLoad
String user = "Not Connected";
String pwd = "no pwd";
int id = -1;
public void init() {
try{
Context ctx = new InitialContext();
if(ctx == null ) {
throw new Exception("Boom - No Context");
DataSource ds = (DataSource)ctx.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/TestDB");
if (ds != null) {
Connection conn = ds.getConnection();
if(conn != null) {
user = "Got Connection "+conn.toString();
Statement stmt = conn.createStatement();
String q = "select name, password, id from user";
ResultSet rst = stmt.executeQuery(q);
if(rst.next()) {
user=rst.getString(1);
pwd=rst.getString(2);
id = rst.getInt(3);
conn.close();
}catch(Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
public String getUser() {
return user;
public String getPassword() {
return pwd;
public int getID()
return id;
after compiling it at the cmd prompt i made a .jar file from the .class of it and named it MySQLLoad.jar...then i placed it also in to the commons/lib directory where the mysql-connector-java-3.1.7-bin.jar was already placed.
then i have changed the server.xml and web.xml files from the conf directory of the tomcat as given here:
server.xml

You can also enable an SSL HTTP/1.1 Connector on port 8443 by

instructions):
* If your JDK version 1.3 or prior, download and install JSSE 1.0.2 or
later, and put the JAR files into "$JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/ext".
* Execute:
%JAVA_HOME%\bin\keytool -genkey -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA (Windows)
$JAVA_HOME/bin/keytool -genkey -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA (Unix)
with a password value of "changeit" for both the certificate and
the keystore itself.
By default, DNS lookups are enabled when a web application calls
request.getRemoteHost(). This can have an adverse impact on
performance, so you can disable it by setting the
"enableLookups" attribute to "false". When DNS lookups are disabled,
request.getRemoteHost() will return the String version of the
IP address of the remote client.

<!-- Defines a cluster for this node,
By defining this element, means that every manager will be changed.
So when running a cluster, only make sure that you have webapps in there
that need to be clustered and remove the other ones.
A cluster has the following parameters:
className = the fully qualified name of the cluster class
name = a descriptive name for your cluster, can be anything
mcastAddr = the multicast address, has to be the same for all the nodes
mcastPort = the multicast port, has to be the same for all the nodes
mcastBindAddr = bind the multicast socket to a specific address
mcastTTL = the multicast TTL if you want to limit your broadcast
mcastSoTimeout = the multicast readtimeout
mcastFrequency = the number of milliseconds in between sending a "I'm alive" heartbeat
mcastDropTime = the number a milliseconds before a node is considered "dead" if no heartbeat is received
tcpThreadCount = the number of threads to handle incoming replication requests, optimal would be the same amount of threads as nodes
tcpListenAddress = the listen address (bind address) for TCP cluster request on this host,
in case of multiple ethernet cards.
auto means that address becomes
InetAddress.getLocalHost().getHostAddress()
tcpListenPort = the tcp listen port
tcpSelectorTimeout = the timeout (ms) for the Selector.select() method in case the OS
has a wakup bug in java.nio. Set to 0 for no timeout
printToScreen = true means that managers will also print to std.out
expireSessionsOnShutdown = true means that
useDirtyFlag = true means that we only replicate a session after setAttribute,removeAttribute has been called.
false means to replicate the session after each request.
false means that replication would work for the following piece of code: (only for SimpleTcpReplicationManager)
<%
HashMap map = (HashMap)session.getAttribute("map");
map.put("key","value");
%>
replicationMode = can be either 'pooled', 'synchronous' or 'asynchronous'.
* Pooled means that the replication happens using several sockets in a synchronous way. Ie, the data gets replicated, then the request return. This is the same as the 'synchronous' setting except it uses a pool of sockets, hence it is multithreaded. This is the fastest and safest configuration. To use this, also increase the nr of tcp threads that you have dealing with replication.
* Synchronous means that the thread that executes the request, is also the
thread the replicates the data to the other nodes, and will not return until all
nodes have received the information.
* Asynchronous means that there is a specific 'sender' thread for each cluster node,
so the request thread will queue the replication request into a "smart" queue,
and then return to the client.
The "smart" queue is a queue where when a session is added to the queue, and the same session
already exists in the queue from a previous request, that session will be replaced
in the queue instead of replicating two requests. This almost never happens, unless there is a
large network delay.
-->
<!--
When configuring for clustering, you also add in a valve to catch all the requests
coming in, at the end of the request, the session may or may not be replicated.
A session is replicated if and only if all the conditions are met:
1. useDirtyFlag is true or setAttribute or removeAttribute has been called AND
2. a session exists (has been created)
3. the request is not trapped by the "filter" attribute
The filter attribute is to filter out requests that could not modify the session,
hence we don't replicate the session after the end of this request.
The filter is negative, ie, anything you put in the filter, you mean to filter out,
ie, no replication will be done on requests that match one of the filters.
The filter attribute is delimited by ;, so you can't escape out ; even if you wanted to.
filter=".*\.gif;.*\.js;" means that we will not replicate the session after requests with the URI
ending with .gif and .js are intercepted.
The deployer element can be used to deploy apps cluster wide.
Currently the deployment only deploys/undeploys to working members in the cluster
so no WARs are copied upons startup of a broken node.
The deployer watches a directory (watchDir) for WAR files when watchEnabled="true"
When a new war file is added the war gets deployed to the local instance,
and then deployed to the other instances in the cluster.
When a war file is deleted from the watchDir the war is undeployed locally
and cluster wide

after compiling it at the cmd prompt i made a .jar file from the .class of it and named it MySQLLoad.jar...then i placed it also in to the commons/lib directory where the mysql-connector-java-3.1.7-bin.jar was already placed.
then i have changed the server.xml and web.xml files from the conf directory of the tomcat as given here:
server.xml

AND NOW WHEN just to get rid of such errords i try to include a statement

BusinessObjects XI 3.1 - Missing MySql Database Server?
Hi all
I've installed the BusinessObjects XI 3.1 on my desktop and during the installation process i have chosen to install the MySql database server together with it.
I'm now trying to create a database, but i can't seem to locate where the mysql database server is installed on my desktop.
Am i suppose to install something else or did i miss something out?
Thanks
jazreeelBO XI 3.1 server should be installed on Windows Server 2003 or 2008. Windows VIsta is not offcially supported for the installation of the server software.

PHP fails after mysql upgrade/downgrade [SOLVED]
After upgrading mysql a whole load of things got fugly.
My mod_python stop working with the databases and I had to downgrade to the previous version but now I have a new problem.
In PHP (another of the laguages I use for business) no longer wants to read the downgraded file and insists in reading the newest version of the shared files so it produces these error:
PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib/php/20060613/mysql.so' - libmysqlclient.so.16: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0
Apr 14 21:26:50 dragonfly httpd: PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib/php/20060613/mysqli.so' - libmysqlclient.so.16: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0
I have spent the entire day dealing with this to no avail. By now I'm pissed and frustrated, so I decided to post; perhaps I'm missing something really simple.
Any help will be appreciated.

Last edited by ralvez (2009-04-15 21:45:48)When MySQL upgraded to version 5.1 I had to do the following:
(Note, you may want to try step 4 FIRST, but in my case I had to reset my root password for some reason.)
1) Stop the MySQL Daemon:
/etc/rc.d/mysqld stop
2) Restart MySQL in SAFE MODE and RESET the Root Password:
mysqld_safe --skip-grant-tables &
then do
mysql -u root mysql
UPDATE user SET password=PASSWORD('MYPWORD') WHERE User='root';
FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
exit
3) Then stop the safe Daemon and restart MySQL normally:
/etc/rc.d/mysqld restart
4) Then I had to run mysql_upgrade:
mysql_upgrade -u root -pMYPASSWORD
I think mine screwed up because I used MySQL GUI Tools which is still at version 5.0. I don't know FOR SURE, but that is my opinion.
I also had a problem initially where the "mysql.servers" table was missing. I have no idea why, but it took me a couple of hours to get everything working again. I feel your pain. But if you're brace you might try upgrading to 5.1 again and see if these instructions work for you. I had to do this on TWO machines, and it worked on both of them.
I'm also open to hear from anyone else that could explain what went on. -
I've read all about this error and have played around with it for a while and still can't get it to work. This is how I got to where I am.
1. installed OS X Server fresh and updated to 10.4.7
2. installed entrophy php 5.1.4 from the installer pkg
3. installed mysql standard 5.0.22 from the installer pkg
4. installed phpMyAdmin and am trying to browse to http://localhost/phpMyAdmin/index.php and am getting the socket error 2002
I read the technote http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302977 which refers to the mysql.sock file.
when I start up mysql, it says 'running' and the mysql.sock file is in /var/mysql/ my php.ini file is pointing there. the /etc/my.conf file is pointing there.
yet I'm still getting this error.
What am I missing?At this point, you have two versions of PHP and two versions of MySQL installed on your system. So, when you say you start up MySQL, how are you doing that?
For a MySQL-package installed version, you need to start up MySQL in the path /usr/local/mysql/bin/... or use the StartupItem they provide, which would be "/Library/StartupItems/MySQLCOM/MySQLCOM start". Then check where the mysql.sock file is with "/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqladmin -u root variables" (or "/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqladmin -u root -p variables", if you've given your root user a password so far).
Also, you can check your PHP installation's default MySQL socket file search path with "/usr/local/php5/bin/php -i" and see what the "MYSQL_SOCKET" variable states is the location for the MySQL socket file.
You just have to make sure these two things are in sync in order to get something like phpMyAdmin to run.
NOTE: If you just type "php" or "mysql" at the command line, you're going to be launching/using Apple's preinstalled versions, so you'll always need to use the full path when working on the command line. -
Max_connections Stock MySQL on Leopard Server 10.5.3
I'm working with a new install and am trying to go with the "out-of-the-box" configuration so the machine can be managed through Server Admin. My problem comes when trying to configure the MySQL server to raise the number of maximum connections available.
In /etc/my.cnf I've added:
max_connections = 300
maxuserconnections = 300
However, when the server starts I can see in the logs that the max_connections is set to 118, which I'm assuming is a default setting from somewhere. I've checked the machine for other my.cnf files, only finding one in my user directory where my MySQL username/password is set. I have no clue where else to check and the only option available in the Server Admin is for allowing network connections.
I've done extensive google searches to no avail.
Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated.Resolved!!
Here is the problem. Even though Server Admin tells you that it is setting the mysql root password, it is not.
The root password that finally allowed me to login to mysql was the SYSTEM ROOT PASSWORD !!
Arrrrggghhh!!!
I don't know what password Server Admin is setting or why is calls it the mysql root password. Is there some other mysql account that would have worked with that password? I would like to know, but for now, I'm happy to finally be able to use MySQL on my Leopard Server. -
MySQL Error#: 1045 Not Explained
I have had this error, and found a zillion posts on the web
asking for a solution, and never found a solution. But I've kind of
figured out what's going on and I'd like to know exactly how and
why it does what it does.
I have a Linux box lemon running MySQL, and a Windows XP
client orange. From orange I can connect using mysql command line
client (mysql -u root -p -h lemon mydatabase). I can also connect
using ODBC (by creating an ODBC connection in Control Panel and
testing the connection).
When I try to connect to lemon/root/password in Dreamweaver
CS3 by creating a MySQL Connection it fails with...
MySQL Error#: 1045
Access denied for user root@lemon (using password:YES)
(This is what a ton of posts complain about with lame
responses like - you got the password wrong).
So what I discover is that in Dreamweaver I have to set up
the connection using localhost instead of lemon. (NOTE: Dreamweaver
is running on orange - not lemon, where the MySQL server is
running!)
So I wonder - what the!!! The database is not on localhost.
So I fiddle a bit and find that if I go into Manage Sites and
change the name of the FTP host under Testing Server that the
connection to localhost breaks - so somehow the MySQL connection is
being made using the FTP host.
How is Dreamweaver making a MySQL connection using lemon as
the FTP server and localhost (orange) as the MySQL server, when it
is lemon that is the MySQL server???.oO(nevdelap)

You know that working on a DB as root is a bad idea? You
should create a
normal account for the daily work and login as root only for
maintenance
or configuration stuff.

Every machine is a localhost from its own point of view.
Since the DB
and probably your scripts both run on lemon, from their point
of view
that machine is the localhost and PHP has to open a
connection to
'localhost' in order to connect to the DB. This is the most
common setup
if PHP and MySQL run on the same machine.
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_16575#dbconn
But one thing confuses me. You said you can connect from your
Windows
box, using the command line:
mysql -uroot -p -hlemon mydatabase
Does the same command also work if invoked directly on the
Linux box or
does it cause an "Access denied"?

FTP is used to transfer the scripts to the server.

How to execute vb script with out using Remote manager in oim 11g r2
Hi Currently,
i have a requirement to execute vb script (present on a remote machine in which connector server is installed) from oim machine while using Exchange connector (11.1.1.6).
This can be achieved by using remote manager,but i dont want to use remote manager.
Hence decided to use Action scripts.
As per connector configuration,
i have configured Action scripts in Lookup.Exchange.UM.Configuration lookup definition, by means of three entries
After Create Action Language Shell
After Create Action Target Resource
After Create Action File /home/scripts/Disable.bat
Disable.bat has the following ,
Powershell.exe -File C:\scripts\Setup.vbs
-%Log on Name%
Exit
As Setup.vbs is expecting a parameter of log on name, i was providing the same.
But while creating the user,as this script gets called, getting the following error and hence 'create User' is getting failed.
Problem while PowerShell execution System.Management.Automation.RemoteException: This task does not support recipients of this type. The specified recipient XXXXXXXXXXX...XXXXX is of type UserMailbox. Please make sure that this recipient matches the required recipient type for this task.
While provisioning the user to Exchange , i have selected 'Recepient type' as 'User Mail box' explicitly, but still getting the error.
Please provide any pointers to resolve the issue.
Thanks in advance
KumarAs far as I know Oracle and MySQL are two different products.
Why do you clutter an Oracle forum with MySQL questions?
If MySQL is such a tremendous RDBMS, like many people state (as 'free' means per definition better),
why don't you visit a MySQL forum where fellow MySQL aficionados can answer you MySQL questions?
In short, why don't you stop abusing Oracle forums?

Command Link inside of datatable
I have the following problem when I put a command link inside a datatable.
The action or actionlisteners never get called. Now here is the funny thing.
1. If I move the action link outside the datatable it works.
2. if I change the scope of the bean to session it works
3. if the datatable contains more than 1 row it works
The last one tells me this is a bug.
To test this I change the sql query to limit the result so 1 row would be returned.
The sql query returns a CachedRowSetImpl
I believe this is a bug.
<h:dataTable rows="6" first="0" id="table" binding="#{event.eventdata}" value="#{event.eventdetails}" var="eventdetail">
<h:column>
<h:commandLink value="#{eventdetail.title}" action="#{event.resaveEventaction}" actionListener="#{event.resaveEventdetails}" id="test" >
</h:commandLink>
</h:column>
<h:column>
</h:dataTable>Here is some additional information that makes this more confusing.
The following code is used to populate the datatable
public CachedRowSetImpl getEventdetails(){
CachedRowSetImpl rs2 = null;
String selectedeventmy = selectedevent;
int rowcount = 0;
try {
sql = "SELECT * FROM event where eventid='"+selectedeventmy+"' ";
rs2 = RunQuery.mysql(sql);
rowcount = rs2.size();
} catch (Exception e) {
// TODO Auto-generated catch block
e.printStackTrace();
return rs2;
where RunQuery.mysql is
public class RunQuery {
public static CachedRowSetImpl mysql(String sql) throws Exception {
CachedRowSetImpl crset = null;
InitialContext initCtx = new InitialContext();
Context envCtx = (Context) initCtx.lookup("java:comp/env");
try {
DataSource ds = (DataSource) envCtx.lookup("jdbc/associations");
Connection conn = null;
Statement stmt = null;
conn = ds.getConnection();
stmt = conn.createStatement();
stmt.execute(sql);
ResultSet rs = stmt.getResultSet();
crset = new CachedRowSetImpl();
crset.populate(rs);
rs.close();
stmt.close();
conn.close();
} catch (Exception e) {
System.out.println(e.getMessage());
return crset;
if I replace the line
String selectedeventmy = selectedevent;
with String selectedeventmy = "61";
it works properly.
selectedevent is populated from the following triggered by another action event on another page. ? The funny thing is if the result set returns more that 1 row all works ok.
public String viewDetails(){
System.out.println("Running view Details");
int selectedrow = eventlist.getRowIndex();
Object selected = eventlist.getRowData();
Map rowdata = (Map) selected;
selectedevent = rowdata.get("eventid").toString();
System.out.println("Selected Event:"+selectedevent);
outcome="eventdetails";
return outcome;

Records in a table that are not older than two weeks
Hey everyone,
I have a mysql table which has a column DATE which contains the date the enty was inserted
I need to write a script which keeps only those records that are no older than two weeks.
Can this be done in sql?
I can do it in Java but I guess this is not the most efficient way.
I use jsp and servlets in my app.I just tried out the above code:
DELETE FROM myTableHere WHERE DATE_SUB(CURDATE(),INTERVAL 14 DAY) <= DATE;This is the error that I got:
mysql> DELETE FROM myTableHere WHERE DATE_SUB(CURDATE(),INTERVAL 14 DAY) <= DATE;
ERROR 1054 (42S22): Unknown column 'DATE' in 'where clause'
mysql>
my sql table has the currentDate column which specifies the current date and time when this entry was inserted into the DB. To get current date and time I use 'now()' function of sql.
what is the problem?
Thanks. -
How to get the number of records of a streaming result set
Hi guys.
So if it wasn't a streaming result set, I would have done this:
{noformat}myResultSet<code class="jive-code jive-java">.last();
{color:navy}*int*{color} numResults = </code>myResultSet<code class="jive-code jive-java">.getRow();
</code>myResultSet<code class="jive-code jive-java">.beforeFirst();
</code>{noformat}
but being a streaming result set, beforeFirst() throws an exception...
So how do you get the number of records in that result set? I wanna avoid an extra count(*) query, so I would appreciate other solutions than that.JoachimSauer wrote:
vanwil wrote:
you see, for now I just use a count(*) query to get the number of records, but that's adding a lot of extra waiting time...Iterating over the result twice will surely be slower then doing the count(*).great! so what I got now is actually the fastest way there is... awesome...
If you get an exception, then you surely have a stack trace. That should tell you what happens, or at least where.com.mysql.jdbc.MysqlIO.checkForOutstandingStreamingData(MysqlIO.java:2066)
Why do you need to know the number of elements beforehand, anyway?I need to know the number of elements because the incoming data goes into a table. Now of course, I could use ArrayList<String[]> or something, but wouldn't that require more memory resources than Object[][] ?
No one can tell you that, at least not without more information (say, the stack trace for example).Here's the exception message:
java.sql.SQLException: Streaming result set com.mysql.jdbc.RowDataDynamic@10c0ef2 is still active. Only one streaming result set may be open and in use per-connection. Ensure that you have called .close() on any active result sets before attempting more queries.
