Which Java version to install on Windows w/AMD Athlon 4400+?

Hello all,
Until now, I've always run Windows on an Intel Pentium platform. However, I just purchased a new PC with an AMD64 Athlon 4400+ processor (one of those new "dual core" jobs). According to the PC manufacturer, this processor can run at 64-bit or 32-bit, but by default, is set to 32-bit processing.
Here's my question:
Assuming that I'll be running this machine as a 32-bit processor, which version of the JDK should I pick to run on this new system? Windows/Pentium or Windows AMD64?
Thanks for your help.

Be careful here.
I went out and bought a nice new AMD64 cpu and
installed the beta Windows XP 64 bit edition and then
tried to install that 64 bit Java for AMD and never
got past the install. Windows kept killing the
installer insisting it was either a virus or
unauthorized or some such nonsense.
After not being able to install other 32 bits apps
(and I had no problems with other 32 bis apps, mind
you) I finally removed windows 64 and installed
Windows XP Pro and Java 1.4.x without issues.
Conclusion: Install the 32 bit Java if your OS is 32
bit, install the 64 bit version of Java if your OS is
64 bit (if you can). Your hardware makes no
difference if it can operate at both 32 and 64 bits.
Then it depends on the OS that you're running
g because it will tell your CPU which mode to operate
in."Windows XP Professional x64 Edition is designed to meet the demands of customers who require large amounts of memory and floating point performance in areas such as mechanical design and analysis, 3-D animation, video editing and composition, and scientific and high-performance computing applications. "
- Microsoft
"If you use only 32-bit applications and work with data sets not larger than 2 GB, you will find that 32-bit, Windows XP Professional is the best desktop system for your applications."
- Microsoft
Are you even doing anything Windows 64 is designed for? Unless you're running in a 64-bit environment you shouldn't be downloading the 64-bit Java, whether or not your processor can support 64-bit environments is irrelevent. If you're a Windows user, then chances are you shouldn't be using Windows 64 because unless you require massive amounts of processor power and memory for things like animation or engineering it's not for you.

  • ASDM - which Java version?

    Unable to launch device manager.
I'm trying to run ASDM and targeting a mixture of 5505 and 5510s. I'm using Mac (Yosemite) and Windows 7 machines.
    5505 is 6.2, 5510 is 9.x
    Oh whatever.
    Which Java versions will work?

Due to security reasons you should always update Java to the latest version. So the question is not which Java to use, but which ASDM works with the newest Java.
If you always upgrade your ASAs to the latest ASDM, then you should be able to use the ASDM. At least that works for me (OS 10.10.2 and also Win7).

  • Which JRE version to install on 64bit OS (win server 2008)

    Hello everyone
I'm not sure what Java and JCO versions / releases to install on a Windows Server 2008 Standard 64bit Edition. We're installing  Edge BI 3.1... apparently this is 32bit Software. I understand that we need to install JCO 2.1.9. Normally I prefer to install 64bit versions of a software on a 64bit OS.
In the JCO 2.1.9 installation preliminaries I read:
The SAP Java Connector (JCo) 2.1.9 requires a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.3 or 1.4. The 64-bit JCo versions need a 64-bit JRE version 1.4. Please see SAP note 549268 for a current and detailed list of supported platforms and Java runtime environments.
Unfortunately I can't find a 64bit JRE version 1.4... just a 32bit JRE 1.4.2_19 version. Furthermore this Java version is end of life. See http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/download-138376.html.
So question is: what versions exactly for JCO 2.1.9 (32 or 64 bit) and JRE should I install?
Thanks for some clarification in advance to anyone!
    Renaud
    EDIT:
According to [this|Re: BOE SAP integration kit issue - Java connector] posting it seems that it is required to install the 32bit version of JCO 2.1.9

Actually, this problem is only partially solved. I still get "Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/mysql/mysql.sock..." when I type 'mysql'. I can access mysql by typing 'sudo mysql', but still get the socket error when connecting via php, so I think I still need to get to the point where I can type mysql without sudo.
Also, I went ahead and installed MySQL 5 with the tar package.

  • Which Java Version

I have a new laptop (PC Windows 7 Ultimate). When I tried to build and debug with screens, it said that Java isn't installed. I thought all new PCs came with Java installed. Regardless, given this configuration, does OPM require a specific version of Java? or will whatever is the latest be ok?
    Thanks,

    Terry,
Any java version 1.5 or later should work, so the latest should be fine.

  • JConnector - which Java Version is supportet?

Hi we have to develop a solution which connects a PDA (Windows Mobile) to the SAP System. We tried to use JAVA 1.5 but the virtual machine of our PDA does not support JAVA 1.5. It only supports JAVA up to version 1.3.
So my question: Does JConnector 2.1.2 support JAVA version 1.3?
    Best regards

  • Ensuring the Correct Java Version is Installed

I recently finished some work where I rewrote an applet. The applet used to require only Java 1.1; however, because I used Swing instead of the AWT, Java 2 is required to run now. It will run under 1.4.2, but I am afraid that some customers might need to upgrade their Java installation. I found some articles on how to auto-install/update the JRE when launching JNLP applications. However, I would like to keep the applet in the browser, so using Web Start is not ideal.
Is there a way to check the version of java installed on a user's computer, and if it is not high enough, automatically download and install it?
If that isn't possible, is there a way to simply redirect them to the download page?
Thanks for the help. I am quite lost in all of this.

  • Which Java Version to develop Java-XML Programs

    Hello,
I was wondering if someone could help me figure out which java bundle to download to be able to compile and run java files using the XML parser classes, and also, do I need any third party api's or somthing to use SAX and DOM.
    Sincerely
    Fredrik Grander

do I need any third party api's or somthing to use SAX and DOMSince it doesn't come with Java you are going to need something.
I would suggest finding that first and then getting the jdk/jre that matches the version that it requires.

  • Which java version should I code the SCJD assignment?

    Hi All,
I am planning to take SCJD (maybe within a year or earlier). But I am confused as to in which version of java should I submit the assignment(CX-310-252A). I read in "All in one Java 2 SCJP..." book by Kathy Seirra that we must not use a verison (of java) that is more than 18 months older than the current production java version as it would be deemed "out-of-date" by the exam assessors (pg 563).
So going by the same line of thought, does it mean that I can submit the aasignment only in 1.6 (release date-dec 12 2006) and not in java 1.5 or 1.4. Also, if 1.7 gets released early next year and if I am coding in 1.6, then I would have to submit the assignment by june 2008 (or else it would become outdated).
The various java version release dates can be found at: http://mindprod.com/jgloss/javareleasedates.html
Please help me solve this version confusion. (I prefer submitting in 1.4 as I have completed SCJP 1.4)
    SCJP 85%, SCWCD 91%
"Once we accept our limits, we go beyond them"

1.5 is no longer a valid platform 18 months after the
    initial public release of 1.6.
What that means is that your code should work on 1.6
without modifications from that date.Where did you find that information?
It's a bit strange since this is what The EOL for Java says:
    "Technology EOL Policy
    Major Product Family Releases
This would include such products as Java 2 Platform,
Standard Edition 1.4.2 and 5.0. The Java technology policy
is to support the current shipping version of Java
Standard Edition plus two back versions. Once the
End-of-Life process starts on a major product family
release, a notice will be posted on all relevant download
pages stating that the product has entered the EOL
process and how long the process will continue until the
product is no longer supported by Sun."http://java.sun.com/products/archive/eol.policy.html
So that means that 1.4.2 will enter EOL when Java 7 is released. How can a version that hasn't entered the EOL life cycle not be valid?

Today when I check the java version on my 10.8.2 MacBook Pro, 13 inch, Mid 2010, I found the following.
    From terminal:
    javac -version
    javac 1.7.0_05

From the about box of JaxaFX Scene Builder:

  • How Robohelp noted which Word Version is installed?

    Hello!
I have installed on my PC Word 2007 and Word 2010. They both work fine.
After  I installed Word 2010, i can't create printed  documentation any more, because robohelp says that no compatible version is installed.
I know that I can first start Word 2007, so the configuration is rewritten and then it works again. But this process takes a long time. So i deactivated this process with the Registry-Key NoReReg=1.
I suspect that Robohelp Notes from the registry, the current version of Word. The question is, what registry-key is the right one. There are tons that have to do with Office.
Does anyone have an idea, which registry-key Robohelp queries?
    Sorry for my bad english!
    Greetings!
    WEC

I believe someone posted that very recently. A search in the fields for the RoboHelp categories should help.
If you do use Word 2010, bear in mind it is not tested or supported.

  • How can I play a cd produced on version 7.0.9 on my windows 7 system which has version 11 installed

I am trying to run an old cd produced on Adobe version 7.0.9 on my Windows 7 system which has the latest Adobe version installed. It will not run and when I follow the process to revert back to version 7.0.9 it will not proceed as I already have the latest version installed.

I don't think I understand what you mean, so to get us on the same page we'll need some questions and answers.
By Adobe, do you mean Adobe Reader? I guess so. But Adobe Reader doesn't produce CDs. It doesn't even make PDF files.
So, please tell us more about what you are doing, how the CD was made, and what "will not run" means.
