Which join to use in situation below?

Hi,
I have 2 tables with structures as below
table :- Machine
(machinename char(5),
machineid char(6),
starttime date ,
endtime date,
quantity)
table :- shutdown
machineid char(6),
shutdowntime date,
shutdownmins char(5)
What i want to do is change the machine table start and endtimes according to shutdowns in shutdown table.
Basically i will be resulting in table having structures as machine table just having difference in start time and end time according to shutdowns.
Means i will have select query selecting fields only from machine table but shutdown table will only be used for time change calculations.
I am bit confused here which join to use or have any other better way to deal with this problem.
I will need answer in only select query.
Experts help me !!!

Hi, Mahesh,
It sounds like you want an inner join, but the question is rather vague.
Whenever you have a question, post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, relevant columns only) for all the tables involved, and the results you want from that data.
Explain, using specific examples, how you get those results from that data.
Always say what version of Oracle you're using.
The CHAR datatype is nothing but trouble. Use VARCHAR2 instead.
