Which product to develop new game on?

I have Flash games that are in Flex but mostly as3 so it wouldn't be a big effort to move it to Flash CC. I'm planning a big update to the games (new graphics, animations, sounds etc.) to really bring them up to date.
My initial target is Mac/Windows App stores but also want to compile to Android/iOS App stores.
I've been working with Flash/Flex for many years but what should I develop it in now?
Most Starling apps seem to be written for Flash Builder - but Adobe have passed Flex to Apache.
There have been some improvements in Flash CC but most of the effort seems to be going into Edge Animate but Javascript just doesn't have the speed yet.
Flash/Flex/Starling seems to still be the only choice for performane right now???? But are they a dead-end?

Over the couple of years Oracle have been moving towards a more Java based development environment, and as a result have developed the Application Development Framework (ADF). This is a structured Java development platform based on the MVC (Model View Controller) design pattern.
JDeveloper is the tool used to develop these applications in, not only that but it allows you to develop SQL code, manipulate the database, design the business components and much much more.
I've read some reports/articles that hint Oracle are concentrating on ADF as a move away from Forms/Reports - to a more Java/Web based development platform, read into that what you will.
What I can tell you is that I have almost completed a the first phase of a large scale project (that has taken two years to develop) in Java and ADF, which contains numerous master-detail pages and the results are very impressive. This project was developed using JDeveloper 10.1.2, but within the last month JDeveloper 10.1.3 has been launched and this contains a considerable number of additional features including ADF JSF (Application Development Framework Java Server Faces) that provide even more functionality.
I hope this overview is of some use to you - but the best advice I can give you is to look on Oracles' web site at JDeveloper, ADF, ADF JSF and some of the tutorials/documentation that is available as these will help you make your final decision I'm sure.
Thanks

hi consultants,
in which server v have to do ale configuration (production or development)..
kindly give me some clear idea about that
thanks

Hi
First you have to develop the complete scenario in DEVelopment server and to check that it is working fine.
So you create a request for the same in DEV server.
You never develop/configure anything in production
all the things that are configured/developed will be moved to Production using the transport requests transportation only

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

Hello, I have a 2nd Gen Ipod Touch and can't get any new games to load (because the 2nd generatiom requires new software, which isn't available). Is there a way to get older versions of games to load on the ipod?
Thanks

To more easily find compatible apps:
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.
Starting when iOS 7 was releases, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.

bought a new powerful iMac. For my purposes, which product will best suit me? I have already got a website designed by myself but this needs updating and changing as my business evolves.

Forgive me, but that's a "Do I need a Porsche to drive to the mall?" question. Without knowing what specifically you do on your web page, we can't advise. Sure, we could tell you to get PS CS6 Extended and have all the options (which you may never use), but jsut as well PSE or Fireworks could suffice....

• Best Practice of copying Production to Development

Hi everyone. My management would like some documentation on the Best Practice of copying Production systems to Development.
1. In the past, we've setup the clients and connections/interfaces and shrink the database by deleting unneeded production data. Now that there is note 130906, saving the ABAP versions may be easier.
2. Every two or three years we copy our BIW Production to Development. This is also labor intensive to set up the development system again with source systems.
3. We've copied our PI 70 system to a sandbox, and again this is labor intensive to reset the PI object names, since the system names are imbedded in the object names.
4. I've done java systems to, so I'm not to concerned about these.
5. There is talk of copying the following Production systems to Development systems - SLD, PI 7.1, Solution Manager, SAP R/3, BIW, MII...some of these make sense, others we question if it is worth it.
As a note, we copy our SAP R/3 Production instance to our QA environment about twice a year and to another QA system monthly. We also copy our CRM Production to our QA environment twice a year and BIW Production to QA environment once a year. We can leverage what we know about copying to PRD to QA, but we want to give them alternatives about copying PRD to DEV.
We'd like to use SAP's TDMS to move data from PRD to DEV. But unfortunately, that project has not gotten management attention as being a high priority (yet).
Rather than take my word for it, is there any SAP provided documentation that would give my management a set of alternatives on their desire to copy our Production systems to Development.
Thanks...Scott B.

From a E2E200 perspective SAP recommends the following landscape:
Maint = Dev -> QA -> Pre-Prod -> Prod
N+1 = Dev2 -> QA2 -> Pre-Prod -> Prod
Maint is all object versions to remain ideally the same versions, and only transports to fix a short dumping Prod system. N+1 is where you have implementation/upgrade projects worked on and allow you import the entire project of transports.
Another consideration, when you restore a Prod system to a Dev or new Dev system; you are destroying all of your version info which means your developers can't view or revert changes for the objects.

• Can I use existing games in new Games Centre

Just updated my 3gs to OS4.1 with no problems, my question is:-
Can I use existing games already bought & paid for at the iStore in the new Games Centre? Iv'e tried dragging them in to no avail i'm begining to think in that money making fashion of Apple that you can only use newly purchased games.

You mean in the money making fashion of Apple which doesn't make any money off the sale of paid apps with all free apps hosted and distributed by Apple at no charge to the developers with free apps? Apple keeps a percentage of the sales price for paid apps to cover associated expenses. The bulk of the revenue for paid apps is paid to the app developers with the developer for a paid app setting the price for their app.
An app must be updated by the developer for the app to be included with the Game Center no different from an app needing to be updated by the developer for iOS4 to be suspended when leaving the app instead of being quit.

• Best way to develop flash games for desktop + mobile, today

Hi
It has been a nice run of about 7 or 8 years now that we have developed Flash browser based games for the web exclusively. Of course with the ubiquity of mobile devices, things have changed. Clients are starting to demand, almost assume, that games will work in the browser - on the desktop and on their tablets.
Putting aside the whole discussion of using an HTML5/JS solution instead, we're sticking with Flash for the next project and need to figure out the best way to get it to run on the desktop browser and on the iPad, while maximizing code re-use.
Given the current state of technologies today, what is the best path? This game will be a 2D side-scroller type game, and development will be done mainly with bitmap graphics (as opposed to vector) and spritesheets :
Option 1: Develop the game targeting the 'standard' flash player for web, then port to an iOS AIR 3.2 app, doing appropriate optimizations.
Option 2: Use Starling/Stage3D for desktop, and then port to an iPad app. Just wondering if starling is ready for primetime making production quality games for mobile + desktop. Does Stage3D still work well enough in software mode on older machines?
Option 3: The new feature in CS6 that lets us publish to HTML5. Is this even close to mature enough to publish a full game? The benefit of this solution is that it could run in the browser on the iPad instead of being a separate app.
Thianks so much for any guidance.. I'm also wondering about pitfalls, and optimization techniques involved in any of these.
-rich

Well I don't know if I can give you 'guidance' without knowing the details of you and your project and all that, but here's my personal opinions:
Option 1: I would go for developing for iOS and Android first and then "in-brower" over the other way around. But I would actually develop for all targets at once so that I know I am not using a solution that breaks another platform/formactor that has to be redone later. iOS has allot more guidelines and things you have to consider than the the 'browser' where there is no approval proccess. So if you can get it approved on iOS then it should be able to go to Android and the browser without so much trouble, but the other way around you could really create allot of stuff that needs to be redone -- Apple is very strict on making sure that the users are not stuck with bad UI or a bad user experience(as is defined by their user interface guidelines). I have some projects that were made for in-browser flash first, and it has been hell porting them over to iOS/Android. The whole way they interact with the user has to be rethought for mobile/small screens/touch screens. If I had made them originally with mobile in mind, then it may not have been as much of an ordeal.
Option 2: I am not familiar with 'starling' or Stage3D, so I can't be helpful here.
Option 3: I was under the impression that the 'publish to HTML5' feature was just for animations, not ActionScript -- Maybe someone else can answer this for sure. Even if it could do ActionScript, there still may be no way to access some of the stuff an app could (saving levels/data/whatever to the device hard-drive, etc).
Anyhow, curious why you would want to avoid vectors? With so many screen resolutions, and the potential that they may get higher in the future (like they did with retina display on iOS), vector would make your project better suited to work on future devices without having to redo things and add higher resolution bitmaps later. If you have something that absolutely demands insane perfomance, then the bitmap/spritesheet stuff might be needed I guess... (or if it is some '8-bit retro' type of thing)

• BEx Query to be transported from Production to Development

Hi All,
We have got an unusual scenario in which we have to import/transport few Bex queries from Production to Development environment. I understand this is not a best practice, but any one suggest the way to implement the same.
Thanks,
Jay

Hi Jay,
For every transport which moves a transport route is configured in transaction STMS (Transport Management System). Ideally it is Dev --> Qal --> Prod. Usually we do not have access to this transaction as Basis Team Configures this route. Check once in transaction STMS (if you have access) that whether the route Prod --> Dev is configured or not (i doubt it would be).
In that case you can raise a request to Basis to configure this route for this exceptional case, if they agree then Transports can be moved via this new configured route.

• [New Game] 3D RPG for Palm Pre - Crusade Of Destiny

(50% off sale ends TODAY!)
Hey Everyone,
Just wanted to let everyone know my new game is now live in the palm catalog.
Crusade Of Destiny is the first ever full scale 3D role playing game for Palm WebOS!
I worked really hard on the game and I was the only developer. I did not have a team or anything so I did everything myself like making the 3d models and animation, drawing all the art, making the music and sound fxs, writing the code, everything except making the logo, which my best friend designed So I really hope you like it.
If you like the game please leave a 5 star comment to show your support and let me know what you think. It would help a lot, thanks

• New game

Hi,
I am new to java game development and have little experience about java 2D.i want to develop 2D game that contains a geographical map.
Initially I have to collect all the data about particular area.(area boundaries, roads, houses etc..).
First screen it should show the most abstract view(lesser details).
Exaple—the area boundaries and corresponding names.
Then we should be able to select certain area and zoom that area.
In this case the screen should display the selected area with new data and previous contents.
Example—show the roads and previous boundaries corresponding to that selected area.
Like wise when we zooming the data must be increased and zooming must be performed on selected area.
I saw these kind of things on lot of games. they dynamically generate the screen at each time.
In this case I have some predefined data.
I think I have to store it in a data Structure(s) and at each step retrieve the relevant data and display.
If you can pls give some idea, examples….
Thanks,
Regards,
Kelum.

often you would construct a vector based map. ie store the roads as an array of line segments. ant you would create a layered map. that is an array of maps one of which is the terrain, one for roads, one for buildings. render them from the gound up (or ground down) .
the zoom issue becomes scaling a vector image so look at how you would zoom in or zoom out on a function graph of a line. this does present some cliping / performance issues on a map with lots of lines.
I would get around this making the most zoom in size (a grid square) a sub map that is one renderable unit, then render the number os grid squares needed to construct the current view. A line or a road which is passes through multiple grid squares would have a line element entered in each of the grid square / sub maps
or you could scan in a map and zoom on the image a bunch

• Exporting data from Production to Development in a R/3 System

Good Morning,
I have a landscape where i have a Productive and a Development system (SAP R/3 Enterprise Release 4.70 SR1 1.10 with MaxDB 7.5 running on a HP-UX 11.23) and i was asked to copy the data and customizing (not user master data) from Production to Development. Both systems have 7 clients (6 for each country and one for Human Resources) and i need to copy the productive data to the development data (the Productive data can overwrite the Development data).
This is my first time doing this, and since i have a short deadline to do it, i need all the help i can get...
I'm not sure if i should use SCC8 or SCC9 in order to create a transport request for each client copy.
I've checked the OS space in sapdata and transport directories, i've also checked the database space and i need to change MAXDATAVOLUMES size and also create more volumes.
Now that i've done that, i need to know what to do next... Does anyone knows where i can find a procedure or documentation on this? Some kind of step by step guide?
About the Export Profiles, which default profile should i choose in order to copy
All client specific data, customizing AND NOT user master data?
Can i do any kind of test run before the export in order to understand the space i'm going to need in transport directory for example?
Thanks in advance.
Best Regards,
Pedro Gaspar

Hello Pedro,
1. In SCC8 the SAP_APPL profile isn't available, so i guess i need to use SAP_ALL and change the user master data accordingly afterwards right?
In that case, you should/can 'Export' the user master of the target system before the Client copy, so that you can re-import the same user master in the target system after sap_all copy from source.
2. I also have several project teams developing in ABAP in my development system. If i export the productive client, will the ABAP code be overwritten (scripts, smartforms, etc...)? I ask this, because right now there are several programs with different versions in both systems (the landscape consists of only a DEV and PRD system NO quality). If the ABAP code in development will be overwritten, i need to tell the development teams to comment all the changes, then create transports to production to make the program versions the same, and then save the data an cofiles to import them again in development after the import. Will also RFC definitions change? Jobs will also be copied? What's the difference between this and a Homogeneous System Copy using backup/restore?
This is the reason that normally the 'Production to Development' copy is not recommended. I would wait if our other techies here can help/advise us for this.
A simple difference between a client copy and system copy is that the client copy is just 'client dependent' change and system copy is 'system wide' change - erasing everything on the target and just overwriting/duplicating the 'complete source' onto the target.
Thanks

• IPOD 5th generation will not upload new games

I purchased a new game and it will not upload it on my IPOD. It says it needs the 1.2 version which it has.
I installed Itunes 7 and when the ipod is sync it says it's syncing software is version 1.2. I restored my IPOD and it still did not eliminate the problem.
I can not find a way to contact support. It keeps looping me to articles and will not give me an email address or phone number.
Someone please help.
PC Windows XP none

I finally got the answer in the Itunes discussion section.
You must "authorize" your PC to use games / music purchased from the Store.
Click on the "Store icon"
Go in "Store" -> "Authorize PC" It will authorize your IPOD to be able to load games. Otherwise, double-clic the image of the game between the Library column and the game description: a pop-up window will be prompted and you can authorize your pc.

How that that game maintain/record status?
What do you mean by stored in iCloud?

Have you tried contacting the developer?

• Which product I need (Std or Pro)

Which product do I need to update a PDF form on our Web site. The person who created it is no longer available . We do not have Adobe Acrobat and like to purchse one. The Pro version is very expensive for just updating or creating a new PDF form. Thank you for advice.

Standard is probably good enough for what you described. You can also
subscribe to Acrobat now, by the way, not just purchase it out-right.
