Which variables for branching scenario assessment based on advanced actions:

I want to be able to use branching on fuzzy questions that don't have a clear correct answer, but have some answers that are better than others (to be more authentic). Has anyone had success with using the variables in advanced actions to provide a branching scenario assessment?
What I want to do is use one multichoice question with partial scoring, each of the 4 possible answers has a different points values (best choice to worst), the value adds to the quiz total score for assessment /feedback purposes, but the next slide is determined by the points gained in that quiz slide (e.g. if they gained 10 points for picking the best answer the condition is set to variable =10 then jump to slide x).
I have tried several cpquizinfo variables but the outcome does not reliably take me to the right slide. I have a feeling quiz questions earlier in the project are affecting the variable.
Thoughts???

You do not explain what you tried. For such a scenario I would create a
custom question slide to get the control you want. I doubt it is possible
with default MCQ.

Defining an exit variable for a specific day based on Fiscal Period

If I do not have Calendar Day time dimension available for reporting is it possible to define a customer exit variable for a specific day. The days are the first and last day of the financial year?
Example
User Input for Fiscal Period: 2009004
The exit is to define a value for 01.01.2009 and 31.12.2008 (end of last year)

yes it is possible. Procedure:
- add a new column in the report structure
- hide this column
- create a new text variable in this column (for customer exit)
- now you can fill this variable during query execution based on 0FISCPER
You don't want to filter by this variable. Right?

Which pattern for this scenario ?

Hi all,
I have an EJB which connects to an external system (written in Perl) using plain HttpConnections and posting HTML content.
I would like to centralize this access using a design pattern.
Which pattern is would fit this scenario ?
I wonder if I should use the Adapter pattern or the Bridge Pattern.
What do you say to it ?

in all honesty, I wouldn't even approach the problem from a patterns perspective. all I see is a subsystem I don't want to deal with directly, so I define an interface to hide it behind. could argue that it's an Adapter, since it's taking the Http interface and abstracting away from it, to a java one. on the other hand, since mucking around with Http in java isn't exactly straight-forward, you're defining a more simple interface, so it could be considered a facade. which do you think is closer?
most people, once au fait with design patterns, think less in terms of those patterns, and more in terms of what OO principles to apply. score some extra credit by writing a passage about how design patterns are not prescriptive, and that many coders lift ideas about encapsulation and separation from patterns, rather than use the pattern exactly as described.

Using variables for answers to fill-in-the-blank questions

For fill-in-the-blank questions, one has to provide answers. I want to provide these in the form of (user-created) variables, rather than in the form of fixed strings of characters (so then, as $$var1$$ rather than as 'rabbit'). I haven't been able to get this to work. The enter variable function is indeed available (in the properties panel), but it doesn't actually work (i.e. even if you select a variable to be entered, it doesn't actually get entered).
Is there a way around the problem?
1. NB that this same issue holds for text entry boxes (rather than fill-in-the-blank questions). If I could get this to work for text entry boxes, I would use them rather than fill-in-the-blank questions.
2. One can use variables for answers to multiple choice questions. So I'm hoping I can get it to work for fill-in-the-blank questions as well.

That would have been my suggestion. I don't have a dedicated blog post, but use TEB's for that kind of questions myself as well. And contrary to the widget/interaction I mentioned before, a TEB is an interactive object, which means it can be validated and there can be a score attached to it. But, it will not help you, since you have to add the correct answers in the same way as for a dropdown list in the FIB question (they are sort of TEB's there). And it is that list that doesn't allow to enter a variable instead of a fixed sequence of characters.
Which means that you are back to the advanced actions, same as in my blog posts with the widget/interaction.
Have a workaround (after all I am the workaround Queen) to have reporting, if you need to check only one TEB, described here:

The idea is to use another interactive object that can have a score. In reality I use two instances of that same object: one with score 0 and one with score X and show the right one depending on the conditional action.
However if you want to have multiple TEB's on the same slide, that have to be checked all with the same advanced action, than you'll need either the Mastery widget by InfoSemantics (only for SWF output) or Javascript.

Variable for one Dimension based on another Dimension's Property

Hi all,
This is a Acript Logic question.
I have a dimension called P_BUDGET_MODEL. It has a property called PROFIT_CTR.
I also have a dimension called P_PCA.
I would like to have a variable that defines the values of P_PCA based on the values of PROFIT_CTR once the user selected the P_BUDGET_MODEL.
Please note:
1. One value of PROFIT_CTR might yield fiew values of P_PCA based on a well defined logic that I can code in the script using some sort of Concatenation.
2. I want to use the variable in *XDIM_MEMBERSET P_PCA to improve performance.
3. I have authorizations defined both for P_PCA and P_BUDGET_MODEL.
4. I would like to use similar logic to define the time dimension based on the category dimension.
Any ideas?

I am not sure I understood. Allow me to elaborate the business scenario.
I have a distributed planning process. Various planners are responsible for various P_BUDGET_MODEL values, which are organized in a hierarchy based on these responsibilities.
When the user selects in a planning package the P_BUDGET_MODEL values, I want to run a logic that will perform calculations. In the logic I need to create data with various values of P_PCA. The values of P_PCA can be derived from the property P_BUDGET_MODEL.PROFIT_CTR.
I also have authorizations on P_PCA and they are synchronized with the authorizations on P_BUDGET_MODEL. The reason I have authorizations on P_PCA is that in various reports I have P_PCA as the display criteria and I do not want users to see all of the values. I also plan to base planning approval processes on this dimension in the future.
Since I have few users basically I needed a simple IF inside my logic, but there is no such statement.
I am a veteran BPS and IP consultant. Such a request was very easy to implement in those tools (using characteristic relations for example and also in FOX). It surprises me that it is so hard to implement in BPC.
Any new ideas?

User Exit Variable for Infoprovider based on month characterstic in query

I am financial reporting with reports created on a mulit-provider over a plan & Actual cube. Along the top of the report is a structure which has amongst other restricitions a column for each month, i.e columns 1 to 12.
Currently we are in month 9, so the report should show data from the Actual infoprovider for months 1 to 9, but data from the plan infoproviders for 10 to 12. My question is how should the variable be coded for the infoprovider which will return a value based on the month characteristic in each columns selection. I understand how I can look at say the current system date, derive the month and return the plan/actual value for the correct infoprovider based on the current month. But I need to create a variable which will look at the month value which is in each column selection in the query itself.

we recently had this kind of reporting requirement. only difference being week instead of month.
you need to create 12 variables for actual month columns and 12 for budget.
now you will write a code to address all the variables. in following format :-
when var1.         "suppose var1 represents month 1 of actual columns
1. derive month from date.
2. if month <= i_vnam+3(1)                         "get the number from var and compare
              set the variable value as the month number of that year for e.g
              concatenate year i_vnam+3(1)      into        l_s_range-low
    else
              set the variable value way back in past which will not have any data.
above logic will cause values in following fashion
if this month is 3 and year is 2008
var1 = 200801
var2 = 200802
var3 = 200803
var4 = 199001
var5 = 199001
etc.
In the query all columns will be set with the property = hide if not values are present. so if 199001 is set in the variable then it will be collapsed.
same way logic for variables in budget column can be written which will set all the month variables which are less than
current month to 199001 (just in reverse fashion of above mentioned logic.)

You have to create a text variable using replacement path for processing type and give the reference object which is the object which you created variable for, "replace with" one with key and anther one with text. Then you can display that in the header of the column or if you are using custom template, you can use webitem for it.

Need Text variable for Bex which take values from another variable

Hello ,
I have a requirement to show date values in query description.
User want to run a query which runs for 5 sept till last sunday.
I have one exit which provides last week date range ( low= last week monday & high = last week sunday )
i have acheieved this by restricting 0calday by range = (5 sept 2011 to exit (above metnioned exist's low) + 6 (offset)
now the problem is user wants to show this date range in query description .
ie suppose user is runnig this query today so the query description should be "5 sept 2011 to 2 oct 2011 "
This could be possible with text variable by using replacement path , but i am unable to figure ot the logic .

Stateful message processing for async scenario

Dear all,
my async scenarios:
1. RFC -> PI -> File
2. File -> PI -> RFC
Following facts:
- The second message is a response to the first one. Both message are separted and async.
- Scenario 2 can be send some hours after Scenario1.
- A response should only be send if a specified field in the message of first scenario is filled.
For example: Message in scenario has a field <ResponseNeeded>YES</ResponseNeeded>
This field does only exist in message of scenario 1.
- Both message have an ID field (e.g. <ID>4711</ID>) which can be used to identified the
corresponding message.
Questions:
- Is it possible to use stateful message processing for this scenario? Or do I need BMP + Correlation?
- A service interface with pattern "stateful" can only be used synchronously. So is it
possible to use this stateful for async message processing at least?
I would assume that I will need a BPM that sends the messsage and keep alive until a
response will be sends with same ID. After this I would check message of scenario1 and
send (or even not) the message of scenario2 to receiver depending on <ResponseNeeded>.

Although BPM is possible here, I would not recommend you to use one here for the reason,

This means you are keeping a process alive for so long which is not a good thing to do.
You could end up with a lot of open/live process instances.
Having said that, if you still wish to go ahead with BPM, the steps would be
1. Receive async (RFC req) - start process, correlation based on ID.
2. Switch step (Evaluate ResponseNeeded)
branch 1(True): a. Send asynch step - File
b. Receive async - File correlation - ID.
c. Send async - RFC call.
branch 2(false) a. Send async -File
3. Stop process.

Variables for calendar year/month

Hi All,
My requirement is to create a headcount report which has to display the number of employees for different time period. ´
1) When user chooses calender day then the report should display total number of employees on that time period(01.01.2005)-(10.01.2009).
2) If user chooses calyear /month then he should see the report for each calyear/month (like 01.2005 , 02.2005,02,2005....)in the columns.
I tried dropping calyear/month in column and i got the result for my second scenario (like 01.2005 , 02.2005,02,2005....)
But when the user chooses the calday it still shows the report by calmonth (bcoz of calyear/month in the column).
I also tried text variable for calyear/moth(replacement path method) but i have the restriction in the interval (from date or to date - i have to choose one by default) so it shows only either date in the columns .
The two variables. 1) Calender Day (Interval,Optional)) 2) Calender Year /Month (Interval,Optional)
I got four restricted key figure to restrict number of employees by business.
Eg :
When Cal Day is choosed then the report will be :(01.01.2005 -10.01.2009)
               (01.01.2005 - 10.01.2009)
Country Sales Finance
India        20      30
Denmark 30      50
When Calyear / Month is choosed then the report will be : (01.2005 - 02-2005) :
                    01.2005                    02.2005

Hello,
This cannot be achived dynamically.
I think the two ways you can work out is creating two different reports one to include daywise and the other to include montwise structure.
Otherwise you can keep calday in free char and ask user to swap calmonth with calday as per requirement.
Else you have to create a workbook report and make use of VB macros to calculate report dynamically which is a very complex approach.

Go to the selection screen and press F1 and go to technical details to name the name of the screen field. example: 8A-VON (period from) and 8A-BIS (period to).
In your report designer, you enter the those variable for the "period" characteristic and tick the variable ON/OFF checkbox.
