Why are my RAW and large JPGS only syncing at 3.5 mp? I open Photogene 4 and meted at shows 3.5MB only.

Hello everyone.
Syncing RAW files is too fast. They are only syncing as JPGS. How can I get a true RAW file sync? I know I can go to iTunes and click on the apps button and select an app that supports a "documents folder" type of sync. But, when I open photogene 4 I can't access "document folder". I was told Photogene supports RAW files. Anyone?

Thanks, I realise that...but I only use my phone to check emails (never any heavy files as I can open them at home) and occasionally browse a few websites (again nothing really heavy). No dropbox etc use at all, so I know for a fact that my usage is under my limit of 500 MB. Also, I forgot to mention, I have only had this phone for 6 weeks and it's already showing 4.1 in + 5.3 out GB of usage!

  • Why are my apps and others not showing on itunes?

I recently moved my itunes folder to an external hard drive. Since then my apps, ringtones and books are not showing on itunes when loaded up on my laptop. Music, films and tv programmes are all fine and playback fine.
I have checked the itunes media folder on the external hard drive to make sure they are there to which they are, they are also in there respective folders inside the media folder.

    Help for a newbie?
I just published my first website! It's pretty basic, but I
learned a lot.... But some of the colors and fonts show up
differently on different computers. Also, I created an image that
had gray and white marbling and it showed up as just gray on the
    website.
Can you tell me what I need to do to make my graphics show up
    properly?

Sorry, but that is NOT what web-safe colors refer to. In the
    old days many
users had 8-bit graphics cards capable of displaying only 256
    colors.
Web-safe colors were those included in the most common 256
    color palette.
Today hardly anybody uses 8-bit graphics cards so designers
    are safe using
full-color (24- or 32-bit) palettes. Your comment that colors
    are subjective
is correct if you mean that colors will often display
    somewhat differently
computer to computer. This is because of the wide variation
    of graphic
cards, monitors, room lighting, etc. What looks like dark red
    on my screen
might look brown on another. This is unavoidable.

  • Why are my iTunes and iPhoto crashing every time I try to open them?

Why are my iphoto and itunes crashing every time I open them?  This is a new problem on my Mac Mini.  Have the latest software on my Mac Mini and the latest iLife sotware.  My mac mini is about 5 years old, always kept up to date.
Processor  2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Graphics  Intel GMA 950 64 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50b)

    Hello Majorie,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
Also, how much Free Space is on your Hard Drive?
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.

  • Explanation - Why are IAS 9i and an RDBMS both needed ?

Why are IAS 9i and an RDBMS both needed ? After all, IAS 8I/9I does contain a "database" in it -- but Oracle calls it a "data cache" !!
    Here's why ...
The IAS 8I/9I "data cache" is intended to be a "performance enhancment" mechanism to avoid network round trips to the back end rdbms (called the 'origin' database in IAS terminology) for "rarely changing" data or application code accessed/used in the IAS 8I/9I mid-tier.
The IAS "data cache" was initially extracted from rdbms 8.1.6 to use in IAS 8i (aka IAS 1.0.0 or 1.0.1) and now rdbms 8.1.7 to use in IAS 9i (formerly referred to as IAS 1.0.2).
This was because the complete architecture and functionality needed to provide the IAS 9i's "performance enhancing read only" cache functionality already exists in the oracle 8i rdbms.
(talk about o-o wanting to have high reusability !!)
How about a practical application of why would you do this ??
Think of the web site activity of a major online order system, for example, a ".com" that sells books. We can all think of the famous ones who would be ideal users of this type of design.
Most of the transaction activity in an online order system is customers "browsing" the product catalog, looking at the
descriptions of the books they might consider to buy. When a customer identifies a desired book, the customer can place an order.
This typical customer behavior looks at the description for each book which is "rarely changing" information that is normally accessed in a "read only" mode.
To improve performance for this online order system, the "rarely changing" information can be stored (or "cached") on the mid-tier in IAS 8i/9i's "data cache".
How do this improve performance ??
With the information available in the mid-tier "data cache", network roundtrips by IAS 8i/9I applications to the 'origin' rdbms are avoided, reducing the workload on the network and the 'origin' rdbms.
Why do i still need a back-end or 'origin' rdbms along with ias 9i ?
You still need the 'origin" database as the "master repository" for your books, their inventory system, and orders placed with your business.
You also have the other necessary business systems they may or may not take advantage of the IAS design -- like shipping, payroll, Human Resources, etc.
What happens if the data changes ?
I kept repeating "read only" -- so - the next question is what do you do with "new or changing" data - like placing an order or updating the inventory ?
Since the "master copy" of the information is retained on the origin rdbms, then all changes will occur there.
When a new book is added or an existing book's information is updated or a book is dropped from the inventory, these changes are applied to the origin database.
This information is then "refreshed" on the IAS 8I/9I "data cache" using the "management policies" available within IAS 8I/9I.
These policies controls how and when to "refresh" the IAS 8I/9I data cache.

    In the following document:
    1) "Oracle9i Application Server Technical White Paper" located at :
    http://technet.oracle.com/products/ias/pdf/9ias_102.pdf
    don -- right
At the bottom of page 16 and the top of page 17 is the following....
'The Java engine inside Oracle9i AS is the Oracle JVM.'....
don -- right --- new name is Enterprise Java Engine (EJE)
'The Oracle JVM is integrated in Oracle9i AS, giving it the same advantages and benefits available to the Oracle Database ...'. '
don -- almost right -- you left the key phrase off of it ...
it is completed as follows : (CAPS - are mine for emphasis)
'The Oracle JVM is integrated in Oracle9i AS, giving it the same advantages and benefits available to the Oracle Database FOR EXECUTING JAVA BASED APPLICATIONS ON THE SERVER'. '
    STEVE --
that's why i made the comment in the previous post which i've copied below :
I don't think of it as a "database" even though some literature might refer to it as one in IAS 9i standard edition !!
The term "database" has a lot of extra functions with it that are not in IAS 8i/9i!!
for example, most RDBMS's have :
    1) updateable tables, etc.
    2) backup and recovery of data requirements
    3) etc.
That's what makes the EJE in IAS different from an RDBMS -- the extra rdbms functrions are not needed...
That's why I think of it as a "Java Code Container" that holds the Oracle Enterprise Java Engine(EJE) in it. I was stuck on this also - now i can mentally exclude all of that extra functionality by calling it a "java code container" and not thinking of it as a "database".
Since Oracle JVM is the common Java environment for both the Oracle database and Oracle9i AS,...'.
The above gave me the impression that 9i AS has a JVM independent of a database.
don -- 9i AS has a JVM independent of a database -- they are the same item -- a "stripped down" database or as i call it a "Java Code Container" that holds the Oracle Enterprise Java Engine(EJE) -- formerly called the oracle 8i jvm -- in it.
i think the term "database" in the literature is being used to emphasize where it came from (stable oracle 8i -- as opposed to totally new technology)
    but
i personally think the term "database" implies to many people, it is a "fully functional rdbms" ... so they assume they don't need a back end -- or in ias terms -- an 'origin' rdbms.
However -- i think this is where the confusion is ..
as people understand the differences between ias and rdbms, they soon realize they must have an rdbms.
However, the administrative instructions (that deal with setting up OSE) seem to point that the JVM is in a database.
don -- right -- it is a "stripped down" database or a a "Java Code Container" as i call it.
you still need to deploy the java code (servlets, jsp's, ejb's, corba, and java stored procs) to it.
The command line functions that you use to do that with the 8.1.7 rdbms -- still apply.
    Commands like :
loadjava, deployejb, dropjava, sess_sh, publishjsp, publishservlet, etc.
    Note :
Obviously ias 8i "EJE" or ORACLE 8i JVM (the old name), is based upon the rdbms 816 functions (no OSE in it), so you can't deploy servlets and jsp's to the ias 8i EJE just like you can't to the 816 rdbms.
I do find this subject (where is the JVM located) very confusing.
don - right -- but you are picking it up -- hang in there !!
    Steve you asked --
Don - is the EJE (OSE/OJVM) implemented through a database?
'The Java engine inside Oracle9i AS is the Oracle JVM.'....
    don - right
keep in mind from a java perspective -- the EJE is a "Stripped down" database that acts like a java code container that you connect to -- just like in 817 --- so you can deploy your code to it.
it's also a jvm -- and you execute your deployed java code in it -- just like in 817.
i hope this helps and i didn't confuse this topic further for you ...

  • Why are both SQL_ID and PREV_SQL_ID null?

session A is blocking session B.
    it was row-level lock.
But, why are both SQL_ID and PREV_SQL_ID null in session A?

    Well, what do we know?
Session A must have an uncommitted transaction.
That uncommitted transaction is blocking session B.
But session A could well be doing nothing now, could be churning away doing some sort of processing outside of the database (java client you said), might well be off doing something elsewhere in a distributed transaction.
    Who knows?
    Not necessarily the database.
If you have ASH licensed, you might, might get a better picture of what session A was doing by looking at DBA_HIST_ACTIVE_SESS_HISTORY but as this is sampled data and your statements might fly in and out, it might not be helpful.
Note that even if prev_sql_id or sql_id were populated, these might not be the statements responsible for the lock.

Why are my contacts and calendar showing up on my daughter's iphone after I updated?  Is there anyway to remove them or stop
them from going directly to her phone?  Help!!!!  Thanks guys

So, am I to conclude from all this that the best thing for one iMac and multiple family devices (2 x iphones, 1 x itouch, 2 x ipods) is to set up itunes account for each family member.  We don't use iCloud except for my (primary iphone)
We had similar problems to the above, and since the recent 6.0.1 update we've started getting each others texts, on top of my wife and I's contacts being replicated to our young son's itouch, and a seemingly random redistribution of apps.

Pages rememebers the last setting you used on images.
So if you had a border on the last image the next one you bring in will have one too.
    To change that select:
    Inspector > Graphic > Stroke > None
Spend a little time exploring the menus and particularly the Toolbar and Inspectors whcih are in reasonably logical progression from big things down to smaller details and clearly labeled.
It is also possible that you have show Layout on which outlines objects on th screen so you can see what's what. To change that:

  • Why are my RAW format files no longer supported?

Using a Mac OS X 10.5.8 with versions of Adobe Photoshop CS5, Adobe Bridge CS5 and Camera Raw Plug-in.
Shot .CR2 raw format photos on my Canon EOS 450D (Same as Rebel XSi)
Have always been able to open them successfully in Camera Raw and Photoshop. Now says that the files and/or my camera model/make is not supported by the Camera Raw Plug-in nor by my Photoshop.
Tried converting to DNG first with Adobe DNG Converter 7.1 and even that says that the source folder does not contain any supported camera raw files.
Previous raw files taken with the same camera on the same computer with the same (or even earlier) versions of all these programs have always worked. I can still open those successfully too. However just these new ones I cannot. Nothing has changed about my camera in that time...
What can I do and why is it that these files are no longer supported?

ACR 6.7 and ACR 7.1 RC can open XSi CR2 files at least on Windows 7.  I just checked.
However, on Windows, at least, the DNGC 7.1 RC has a quirk in that when you want to convert a folder of CR2s to DNGs, you have to click the Select button when the folder is highlighted in the file selection dialog and the folder listed in the location area of the file selection dialog.   You cannot click INTO the folder and then click Select, which sounds like what you are doing.  If you do click into the folder and click Select it’ll say there are no compatible files that exist.   I think previous versions of the DNGC would recover properly if you clicked into the folder before clicking Select.
Since your files cannot be opened in ACR, either, then perhaps they are corrupted.  You might post a download link to one of them in a message here so others can have a look.  If you don’t have a large file hosting service, then set up a free account on www.dropbox.com or www.yousendit.com or similar, upload your file, there, then post the public download link, here, in a reply.

  • Why are my RAW dng files opening in photoshop as 8 bit?

I am shootng on the canon 5 D Mark II.
On other Mark II camera bodies that I used in the past, the dng files are 16 bit. Why are mine 8 bit, and how can I change it IN CAMERA to 16 bit (I know how to convert it in photoshop,)
    thanks

DNG is an Adobe standard which stands for "Digital NeGative".  Adobe supports the format and have also contributed it as an open standard (free to use, they provide free DNG converters, they also state that it's "royalty free" if you were a developer and wanted to include the standard in a product, etc.)
You can find more information on it (and download Adobe's own free DNG converter software) here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/extend.displayTab2.edu.html
And while it's supported by several companies even outside Adobe, it isn't adopted by Canon or Nikon -- they continue to create files in their own formats (.cr2 for Canon and .nef for Nikon).
Are you using Adobe's DNG Converter or something else?
JPEG is an 8-bit format (there is no option for anything other than 8-bit if you shoot JPEG).
CR2 (Canon RAW) is a 14-bit format on your specific camera.
If you shoot RAW and copy the CR2 files to your computer, you've got 14-bit data (there is no option on your camera to change the bit-depth.)    There are options to shoot in alternate RAW formats such as S-RAW1 & S-RAW2 (don't use those if what you _really_ want is "RAW").
Canon "Digital Photo Professional" (aka "DPP") came on the media CD bundled with your camera and can open all formats that your camera can create... but 3rd party software wont necessarily support all the formats.  Everyone, of course, supports JPEG.  RAW is supported via RAW updates from the some vendors (e.g. Adobe provides RAW updates but usually only for their latest versions of software).   The S-RAW formats are often not supported by 3rd parties.
It looks like RAW support for the 5D II was added in Adobe Camera RAW (ACR) v5.2.  That was back in the days of Photoshot CS4.  If you have CS4 or later (or any version of Lightroom) and you keep up with the "Adobe Camera RAW" updates then Photoshop would be able to open the Canon .CR2 files from your camera in their native format and would not need to have them converted to ".DNG" format.
Canon DPP will allow you to convert your RAW files into TIFF (which is also a non-lossy format).

  • Why are my RAW files created by Vuescan so dark in Aperture?

I've been scanning images using Vuescan and saving as 16/48 bit RAW images. These images always look great in Vuescan but when I import these images into Aperture, the images are very dark. I need to do an exposure correction of +2 just to start seeing anything in the midtones. Ed Hamrick, the author of Vuescan, says this is because the RAW files have a gamma of 1.0 (coming straight of the CCD). If I save the same scan in TIFF format, the images look pretty much the same in Aperture and Vuescan.
My question is what benefits does saving in RAW bring given the large adjustments that I must make. I know I can automate the adjustments at import which might make this less of an issue but I wonder if saving in TIFF is nearly as good. Some of the pictures have a wide dynamic range with lots of shadow detail.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks for any help.
    Bob

My frustration has been that I am doing the processing twice which is pointless. I need to choose a workflow. Mind you that if Apple supported the full DNG specification, it would be able to deal automatically with these RAW scanned DNG files (I believe they are linear DNGs) and automatically compensate during import just as Lightroom does. I am using the trial version of Aperture - which I feel really comfortable using - but I think I may take Lightroom for a spin prior to making a final choice of software.
As I tried to clarify, there is no benefit in saving as RAW from a scanner. Just save as a normal 16-bit TIFF and you'll and up with a simplified workflow and no loss of data nor detail. Actually, a DNG is internally just a TIFF.
If Apple fully-supported the DNG specification, then the RAW Fine Tuning adjustment would be available with its auto-exposure button to get a good starting point for tweaking the images.
You could provide Apple with feedback via, Aperture>Provide Aperture Feedback.
If I continue with Aperture, I am thinking that I will save these files as RAW TIFFs and do the gamma adjustment at import. This should streamline the workflow by making it possible to scan two 4x5s at one without the need to tweak each one in the scan and then do all my processing in Aperture (or Lightroom). I will just trust the scanner.
You shouldn't trust your scanner, just as you shouldn't always trust matrix metering or 'I'll fix that in post". Aiming for the best starting material is aiming for the best results. So instead, carefully examine each scan, which will not take you that long BTW.
I will still create the scanner profile of the IT8 target which I should then be able to use as a proofing profile to compensate for any color bias in the Fuji Provia film used. Perhaps I am wrong about this.
Actually, you're wrong on this. The IT8 provides an input profile, and not an output profile or working space. Imagine scanning a slide and printing it. Softproofing for IT8, then you can't softproof for your printer and vice versa.
Your post has allowed me to really think through my workflow and I really appreciate the input I've received in this thread. Now, I just wish I could get Apple to add support for Linear DNG (or whatever format Vuescan RAW DNG is which I know contains three colors per pixel rather then one as in Camera Raw) which would provide the additional tools to deal with these DNGs at import.
Although linear DNG support would indeed be nice for unsupported camera's, it is not necessary here. If Vuescan DNG has three channels, than it is a TIFF. (since demosiacing MUST have been applied, there are no scanners with a Foveon sensor as of yet)
Well to cut a very long story short just use TIFF for scans. It's a necessity for proper colormanagement and will simplify your workflow.

  • Why are Setup Assistant and Migration Assistant forcing me to copy everything from an old mac?

    Hi,
I just bought a new Mac Mini (Late 2014, ships with Yosemite) to replace a defunct MacBook Pro (Late 2008, last ran 10.8.5).  I have a local administrative user account and some server and network data that I want to migrate from the latest Time Machine backup of the MacBook Pro to the Mini.  I don't want to copy anything else to the Mini.  Neither Setup Assistant nor Migration Assistant will let me deselect anything though.  All the check boxes are greyed out.  Clicking on them does not uncheck them.  This forces me to copy everything from the Time Machine backup to the Mini.  Then the Mini won't restart.   It won't even boot into safe mode.  It just gets stuck in a reboot-loop until I enter recovery mode, wipe the system drive, and reinstall Yosemite.  Does anyone know why those check boxes are greyed out and how to fix them.  Thanks in advance for any help.

Since it's a new machine, contact Apple's Support and let them deal with it.

  • LDAP Console: why are ds52.jar and ds522.jar needed?

I updated Sun DS from 5.2 to 5.2 patchlevel 2, the server on Solaris and the LDAP Console on Windows a while ago.
If I start the LDAP Console all is well.
If I open the "Server Group" tree node, it wants to download admserv52.jar and ds52.jar
    which fails.
There are admserv522.jar and ds522.jar (and others with 522 in their file name in the java/jars directory.
If I copy admserv52.jar and ds52.jar by hand the LDAP Console is able to open the nodes under Server Group,
but I guess they use the 5.2 and not the 5.22 Versions.
As an experiment I removed all 5.2 Versions and renamed the 5.22 Versions to 5.2. Result: The LDAP Console does work and it only needs the 5.22 jars.
Info on Main Console says Server Console 5.2
    Build 2004.007.1414
Info an Directory Server Windows says Server 5.2

Question: How do I configure my setup to use only the new 5.22 Versions in the Console?

in the administration directory was not changed to the new
version. So one couldn't connect with the new console
version 5.2pl2 but used and needed the old one effectively.
To use the 5.2 pl 2 console there need to be the following
    files in the client directory:
    <root of sun ldap console>/java/jars/
    ds522.jar (main console application)
    ds522_en.jar (english language resources)
ds522_de.jar (german language resources, in my case, optional)
ds522.icon (icon used in the console)
    and for the administration console:
    admserv522.jar
    admserv522_en.jar
    admserv522_de.jar
    admserv522.icon
The old file with the '52' in their name may stay where they
are to connect to unpatched 5.2 Servers and 5.2pl2 Servers
    without updated configuration.
    The configuration is under:
    cn=ResourceEditorExtension, ou=4.0, ou=Admin, ou=Global Preferences, ou=zentrale.edekanet.de, o=NetscapeRoot
Search for the attribute 'nsclassname' in all subentries where there
is a substring '@ds52.jar' and change it to '@ds522.jar'.
With newer versions of the Sun Directory Server there are
even jar files with names like 'ds523.jar'. Proceed like above.
After the next start of the console you are using the new 5.2pl2
Versions with all bugfixes and enhancements. To verify you may
move the '52' files away, start and connect. If the directory server
is configured the right way it won't try to download the '52' files
    to your local computer.
    Frerk
