Why can't I delete music from my iPad mini?

I have an iPad mini, and it's updated to the ios7.
I know how to delete my music (swipe from right to left) but it won't let me do that for certain songs.
The songs are older than the ones that I can delete. Also, the songs have then icloud sign next to them.
Please help!

the icloud symbol means they were downloaded from the cloud or purchased through itunes, they are not on your device per se... you can hide these by going into Settings, Music, then turning off "Show All Music"... that will hide the "icloud" music... hope this helps...

Hi,
I'm running out of space on my iPad mini 2, 32gb, ios8.1.2. I want to delete some videos I shot on holiday last year, so I can make some more this year.
In the camera roll, I hit select, select the vids to delete, but the trash can icon goes grey (inactive) instead of blue (active). Deleting photographs is not a problem.
These films are not on my Cloud drive. I copied them onto my laptop - for editing purposes and backup. They are in a sub-folder in Movies, not in iTunes, as far as I can tell.
This doesn't explain why they are still on my iPad, despite all attempts to delete them!
Please help - I dare not shoot more vid until I know I'll be able to get rid of it!

Is it possible that these videos are being used in an iMovie for iOS project? That would cause it to be impossible to delete them. See this article for how to complete the deletion -

I want to delete music from my iPad mini, as in from the library but I can't seem to be able to. Does anyone know how to do this?

If the music is downloaded/synced to the Music app (i.e. it's not in the cloud, it doesn't have the cloud icon against it) then you should be able to delete tracks by swiping/dragging across them from right-to-left. If you have iOS 8 on your iPad then you can use the swipe/drag to also delete albums and/or artists, or you can delete tracks / albums / artists via Settings > General > Usage > Manage Storage (under 'storage' heading) > Music. You can also delete all music via Settings > General > Usage > Music on iOS 7, Settings > General > Usage > Manage Storage > Music on iOS 8.
If the music does have the cloud against it then you can stop cloud music showing via Settings > iTunes & App Store > Music (under 'show all') 'off'
You can also delete music when connected to your computer's iTunes, either by changing your sync selection if using automatic syncing, or by selecting Music under the iPad 'device' on the left-hand sidebar of iTunes (option-comman-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC, should enable/disable the sidebar) and using the right-hand side of the iTunes screen to select and delete music

Why can't I delete photos from my iPad?

Quite by accident, I discovered how to delete over 300 photos all at once. Inside iTunes, I clicked on where to file under photos and picked a file on my computer that had 8 landscape photos. iTunes copied those 8 photos over to my iPad and completely erased all of my unwanted photos. Luckily, these 300+ photos were backed up elsewhere.

My son deleted a video from his ipad mini and I want it back, I was so upset when he deleted it so I was hoping I can restore it or retrive it somehow

Do you have backup made of the phone before it was deleted? if so, you can get it out of the backup, otherwise, not much hope.
If on mac: Dr.Fone (Mac) will do the job nicely, I'm sure there's something equivalent for windows, but I'm not so familiar there.

Why can't I delete music from my iphone using itunes match anymore?

I thought for sure I used to be able to swipe to delete albums or tracks on my iphone - on my iphone 5 I can no longer do this. I found that if I turn itunes match off, I can delete. But turning itunes match on and off a lot is really a huge issue. It seems every time I do this the iphone loses track of some of the music.
Why why why can't these problems be fixed?!

And re-download.
But "use cellular data" is back on, so it downloads when you're out.
And your phone bill is now $300 because you live in Canada and the data caps are so low.
Great. Now I paid over $350 to get my music I already own onto the phone.
At this point, the old USB seems like a better option. Or even the firewire 400. Longing for the days of my 10 gig iPod with a FireWire cable.

Why can I only delete music from my phone (with itunes match) when "show all music" is selected

This is pretty messed up... I can't delete any music from my phone unless I have the "show all music" command turned on. This is the complete opposite from how it should be. Please get it together, Apple!

Thanks for your reply. I mean that only when all of my music in the cloud is shown on my phone can I delete the music stored on my phone. I should be able to delete music that is stored on my phone when I can view ONLY the music that is taking up the phone's memory.

It's easy enough to add music from the Cloud, but I have a HUGE music collection (all legally acquired, thanks) and I don't always want the same music taking up space on my iPhone. Everytime I delete music from my iPad mini and then re-sync, it puts the music back on. How do I prevent this?

I shuffle music around a lot (and is there a way to delete whole albums at a swipe and not have to do it song by song) so am getting frustrated when iTunes keeps restoring my iPad mini to the last incarnation of songs. Are there settings I am missing?

If your iPad is on iOS 7 as your tagline suggests then you can only delete individual songs directly on your iPad, you can't delete whole albums in one go.
For the music being put back on, what music sync options do you have on its Music tab when connected to your computer's iTunes ? If you have it set to sync the album / artist / playlist that contains a song that you've deleted directly on your iPad then you will need to change your sync options - as far as iTunes knows you've accidentally deleted the song(s) from your iPad, so unless you also change your sync selection (e.g. removing the album, removing tracks from your playlists on your computer's iTunes) then it will them back on it.

By connecting the iPad to your computer's iTunes, and either removing it from the list of music that you sync to the iPad and re-syncing, or selecting Music under the iPad 'device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and deleting the tracks that you don't want. Why can't I delete mail from my iPad?

I can delete about ten of the messages but after that the edit/delete button doesn't work and sends me out to the first page where all the icons are. And when I get to the first page, the mail icon still has the same number of incoming mail listed.
I took my iPad to the Apple Store and they restored the Mail software. That worked for a short while but is again refusing to delete mail. i've changed the mail settings from 50 to 25 to 200 recent messages. Nothing seems to help. Frustrating.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I hate having so many undeletable messages on my iPad. Helen

I can't delete the Mail. I've tried holding the mail icon until it start jiggling, but no x appears on the upper left. I've tried shutting and restarting the iPad after that. Still no success.
