Why can't I end my installation?
when I wanted to install a game on my macbook pro, it stopped and now it has frosen. i can't take out the cd and i can't end the installation either. Help me??!
Hold the command and tab keys to switch to the Finder and from the Apple menu select Force Quit on the problem installer. (If that doesn't work, then press and hold the power button down to force a hardware shutdown.)
The disk should mount on the desktop where you can drag it to the Trash and Eject, or use the eject key on the keyboard.
If it refuses to mount or eject, reboot the machine holding the option/alt keys down and a row of icons appear for Startup Manager, keep pressing the eject key there and it should eject. Click the arrow under OS X MacintoshHD to boot up.
Next you need to check if the game is compatible with your OS X system, use the Apple menu > about this Mac (or open the System Profiler program in the Applications > Utilities folder) and find out your RAM, processor, video card (if any), graphics and OS X system version.
Then compare this with the developers site and keep in mind that older games may not run on newer OS X versions.
Also PowerPC based games will not run under later OSX versions of 10.7 or above.
Also to run third party programs in 10.8 or higher, requires System Preferences > Security > run programs from Anywhere, or the control key held and clicked on the installer and "open" chosen to bypass Gatekeeper.
Software for Windows PC's do not run on OS X, however it can if Windows is installed via BootCamp or virtual machines software
If it's a 3D game, then check your Mac's ability to be even able to run it.

Why can't I end if in this AppleScript?

Could you take a look at this script and explain why I can't end the if? I have tried compiling it with out the if and everything compiles so I know it is not a Syntax Error with the rest of it. But as soon as I enter and compile the end if portion of the script I receive the Syntax Error message;
Expected end of line, etc. but found “if”.
After the error message the if directly after end is highlighted in blue. Any ideas? Here is the script;

Yes Mavericks can be downloaded but is it the *right* one is what Tuttle was getting at. Don't take our world for it, take it from Apple:

Why can I view PDF files from the Web on my iMac even after I installed Adobe Reader and accepted the end user license agreement.I then quit the application relaunched it, as instructed snd still the PDF document comes out blank or black. Please advice. Thanks
Chef ReyAre you saying that Adobe Reader or Preview can't read PDF file that you download? Or, are you saying that you can't display PDF files in your Safari broweer? If the latter, then delete any AdobePDFViewer plugins you find in /Library/Internet Plug-ins/ and restart. That should allow Safari to display PDFs in its window. BTW, that's the worst place to view them. Better to download them and use Adobe Reader or Preview.

Why can't I go under artist view in music app, select 1 of multiple albums by a specific artist and play the whole album from beginning to end? Why would you have it automatically shuffle between songs from several albums by the same artist automatically? How do we change this back to previous function because this is sucking big time for a music lover.
I agree this is a really dumb change and I really hope Apple changes it back to the way it was.
In iOS 6 and earlier when you were in the Music player and selected ARTIST it would show a list sorted by artist. When you selected the artist you wanted, it would show a list of their albums. Then you could select the album and see the list of songs. In iOS 7 after you select Artist, it displays the album and every track, so you have to scroll down through not only the album but every track on that album. That was a really stupid change on Apple's part. Makes no sense.

In iOS 7.0 you have to scroll down through all the songs to see the other albums. That can be a really pain if you have a large music collection.
Please Apple change it back to the way it was!! This didn't need to change! -
Why can't I uninstall AirPort 4.2 from my Windows 7 PC.. I tried downloading and reinstalling the 4.2 but during the installation process I get an error. It reads... "1608: Unable to Create InstallDriver instance Return Code -2147024894
You should not install it again..
Boot the computer into safe mode and try the uninstall again.
No luck you will have to manually uninstall which is a pain. Delete the files and open regedit and delete the registry entries.. better still use the system restore to go back to a previous system where you had no 4.2 installed..
Or just ignore it and install the latest 5.6.1 and if it gives trouble well do a clean install of windows. -
Why can't I open Adobe Reader after I download it? The screen is just completely black. Says something about signing the end user agreement ...
you can find many articles on how to repair mac disc permissions on Google. Just
try googling it. Else you can always ask applecare. They will guide you with
same.

I use my phone as a hotspot and I recently had to restore my windows computer, thus deleting the itunes program and installer... Sooooo I figure no big deal the iPhone shows up in windows 8 with a drive labeled "internal storage" why can I not simply download the windows installer file to that folder on my iPhone and run it on my PC ( much like a very over priced thumb drive) but no sir apple prohibits it's iPhone from downloading .exe files to anywhere on itself through safari ***???? Yes I can go to any public library and download it to a thumb drive in the morning but what to do all night???? ..... I got it vent about the infinite ways the control misers at Apple find to make the simplest of tasks next to impossible... Will once again be an android user in the bear future.... Expense is justified in defense if common sense... So to you apple I give -1 of 5 stars for overbearing control freak power hungry activities!!!!It's a phone, not a thumb drive. If you want to download an .exe file to a thumb drive, then buy one. We are not Apple here - we are just users like you, and this is a user to user technical help forum. So, if you have a technical question please ask it.

I need to repair my start up disc so I have to start up from installation disc. In doing so, my computer restarts, I hear the mac sound, then a grey screen and then turns off and goes on in this cycle endlessly. Why can't I restart from disc?
Booting From An OS X Installer Disc
1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
2. Restart the computer.
3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple
logo appears.
5. Wait for installer to finish loading. -

your mic might not be working... exit the phone app and double click on the home button. this will bring up the multitasking apps. press and hold the apps and delete all of them with the red delete sign (does not remove the apps from the system). then shut down your iphone and turn it back on in a few seconds. after this, make sure mute is off (it will light up blue if its on) and try calling someone. this should solve the problem

I was offered an update to Flash Player. Downloaded it but then was told I had to agree to the licensing agreement but it will not show me the agreement except for a few lines of it. Why do you make things so complicated? Explorer tells me there is a know compatibility problem with Adobe. (I'm running a 32 bit Vista system.) Why can't Adobe and Microsoft get their act together?
I don't know what (exactly) your problem is, or what Microsoft has to do with it, but did you click the little checkbox left of "I have read and agree..."?

You probably ended up purchasing a Mac OS X 10.6.3 DVD. I have posted previously about this. I will edit this once I find the post again.
10.6.3 is incompatible with the Mac Pro you are using. You must install the version that came with your computer or newer. (Yours came with 10.6.4)
If you do not have the original discs:
There is another way to do this that I just remembered when one of my co-workers asked me if I had a 10.6.6 disc.
You need two macs: NEW and OLDER.
Connect NEW and OLDER via firewire cable. (NEWER is probably firewire 800, so you may need a firewire 400-800 adapter or cable)
Boot NEW into "Target Disk Mode" by holding down 'T' at boot until the Firewire logo (looks like a Y) appears.
Boot to Install Disc in OLDER.
Once you have booted to the install disc, it is the same process as installing it onto the internal drive, except you need to choose the Drive in the other computer as the target drive. The drive that you want to install to will look like it's a firewire drive (so it will look like a mounted usb drive but with that 'Y' symbol on it.)
MAKE SURE NOT TO INSTALL OVER THE GOOD DRIVE!!!!!
Go ahead and install Mac OS X.
Once it finishes installing and OLDER shuts down hold down the 'Option' key right after the chime. Select the drive that you just installed Mac OS X on. It should appear just as it did in the Installer.
Once it has booted and you have logged in: run software update and update to the latest version of the OS. Once you have finished updating, shutdown the computer. Unplug the firewire cable. Turn off NEW, then turn it back on. It should work properly.
