Why did all my contacts suddenly disappear?

Yesterday morning all my contacts were suddenly gone from my iphones and macbooks. I didn't do anything to my icloud or either device, so I am really confused as to what has happened. Recreating my contact list will take forever!!
The Photostream is also not working, but at least the pictures are on my phone so they aren't lost.
Very Frustrating!!!

Hopefully you won't have to recreate your Contacts...
On the Macs open System Preferences > iCloud
Deselect the box next to Contacts and Photo Stream then reselect then restart the Macs.
On the iPhones tap Settings > iCloud
Switch Contacts and Photo Stream off then back on then restart the devices.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

As far as I can work out, from incomplete downloads, ticks denote all downloaded ok.
The manually manage option is for those who want to tailor their library collections in Music and Video to specific items. If you have this ticked, then it will sync with the sync selections in your devices pages (eg, Music, videos).
If you want to sync all of your collection 'all' the time, leave manually manage off and put the a tick in the devices' page to sync all items Dependent on iCloud use, and or automatic download options in iTunes, new purchased items are added and synced automatically as they are added - this only applies to Store purchased items.
If you are going to added content outside of the Store, then Manually Manage is the option to take for Music and Videos - it does not affect anything else. IE Apps or podcasts, etc.
If you have manually manage off, and 'selected playlist' option ticked, then it will sync existing ticked items, but new items downloaded will require you tick them (a) after the next iTunes automatic download when it connects to the store and downloads any items, or (b) you download to a device and then sync the device, in which case it transfers the new download to your library - but, as happened to you, deletes it from your idevice.
Retcicking and resyncing will add the item back on next sync.
Don't forget that whenever making any kind of manual change to hit Apply and resync, to stop changes being lost.
However, and i cannot stress this enough, iTunes is very problematic, especially when handling large collections. Its sync operations can be erratic or non-functional at times (even buggy perhaps)
If all options fail, then go to your program installation control folder (Control panel\Programs etc on windows) and select to repair iTunes.

You say that you have the activation code. Are you sure? Did you register Lightroom with Adobe? If you did you can always retrieve the code from your account. What do you mean when you say that you "plug it in" and it won't let you continue? What operating system are you using?

Apple got rid of web hosting and idisk for something much worse. There ids hardly any storage space and it doesn't even work half of the time anyway.
I used to be the biggest apple fan ever but... i think Apples bubble is bursting...

Why are all my entries on Icloud 2 hours earlier than they were previously entered. I just noticed this today April 23? They do not match what is on my Ipad or on my imac. Looks like the clocks are not syncronised someplace.

Your post is fascinating because your post header says "today April 24" while your post body says "today April 23" So maybe that is related...
Anyway, make sure all your iCloud devices have Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically = "On".
Also, in iCloud.com, open Calendar, go to Preferences (upper right) > Advanced > and check "Enable Time Zone Support".

Why did all my iPad content disappear after restart

Had downloaded a rental movie from iTunes but when I tried to watch I received an error message saying "...not supported content". After a few more unsuccessful attempts I turned off my iPad (holding home and off button until slide appears). Waited one minute, turned it back on and found that all my video, pictures, iBooks, etc were missing. Also, while all of my apps icons appear on the screen, none of them work (of you touch, the app starts for a fraction of a second then back to iPad home screen). What DOES still work is: mail, calendar, contacts, settings and safari. I can connect to a WiFi network no problem. Does anyone have an answer or solution and has this happened to anyone else?

The whole experience seems sort of bizarre in that if you downloaded a movie from ITunes why would you get a message stating the content is not supported on the iPad? It doesn't make any sense to me. Sorry the reset doesn't work for you in this case.
I trust you have a recent backup from which you can restore. Unless someone else post with a solution, I imagine that restoring from a backup is the next viable option for you.

Why did all my files suddenly become UNIX Executable Files?

After reformatting my hard drive and installing Panther server, I restored the Retrospect back up of files to my home directory. Unfortunately, all the files that didn't have suffixes (eg: .doc, .xls, .pdf, etc.) suddenly had their icons replaced with an icon of a black console with the word "exec" typed in. And their kind was lost and all became: UNIX Executable File.
Ever since this Panther server has been acting eratically.
I have been able to resurrect the affected files by opening them in their native application and resaving them with the proper suffix. But there are thousands of files and dozens of applications that could have made each file.
Is there a way to resurrect these files without having to open and resave every single file in its native application one at a time? Could these thousands of UNIX Executable Files be causing problems for Panther server?

Hi TropicalReef,
At some point during your backup/restore process the executable bit was set on your files. This should not cause a problem with the overall performance of the operating system. But to some extent this is a security risk. There are a number of GUI applications that can change file permission. I recommend you download one and remove the executable bit from your files. Read the developers documentation carefully. Changing file permission especially in batch mode can be very dangerous.
The easiest way to make you files double clickable is to add the appropriate suffix to the file name. Again there a number of shareware and freeware apps that will do this. Check MacUpdate and VersionTracker.

Why did all my photos suddenly become flagged

The 9.3 update to iPhoto '11 was installed about a week ago, and I haven't done much with the library since then (though my wife has imported some pictures). This evening, I launched the program, created a new album, and then clickied on "Flagged" to link some of those photos into the new album. Somehow, Flagged is now showing every picture in the library (over 38,000) as "Flagged"). I don't think there was anything strange about the album creation ... it happened that I had highlighted another album as I executed the command, so my new album had those same 30-odd pictures linked and I had to remove them from the album. The initial display of "Flagged" showed only 18 photos ... untill I clicked on it.
Is this something that could have happened with the database rebuild from the 9.3 upgrade ?

Some additional data as I experiment with this. If I explicitly flag a photo in some other view, the Flagged category is temporarily restored to normalcy. But it reverts back to showing all photos in the library if I leave the properly functioning flagged folder and do some operations elsewhere in the library (moving photos albums, etc.).

Go to SETTINGS > ICLOUD > turn green button OFF for CONTACTS > Turn OFF iPhone > Turn ON iPhone > SETTINGS > ICLOUD > turn green button ON for CONTACTS > GO BACK TO SETTINGS > Mail Contacts Calendars > Import SIM Contacts

Why did my iPhoto and Mail disappear?

Why did my iPhoto and Mail disappear? I also lost and had to reload Quicken. This all happened in three days.

The applications are gone. First Quicken disappeared and I reloaded it from the disk yesterday. Today Mail, Contacts and iPhoto disappeared. No one else uses my computer and I've had no other crashes and I haven't made any changes. I don't think anything else is missing. Apple is sending me disks so I can reload the missing stuff but they wouldn't speculate on why it happened nor whether it will continue. Thanks for helping.

I did it. By relocated all the songs. Then did my usual sync. Now , all the songs were synced to my Iphone now.:)
