Why did Apple cripple Mail and Contacts? They don't talk any more.

Question

Mavericks needs to go back for repairs. Mail won't talk to Contacts. Contacts won't talk to Mail.
Double clicking an email address in Contacts does not transfer it to the email address line in Mail.
Double clicking a Contacts group does not transfer it to the address line in Mail.
Highlighting several groups does not transfer the groups to the address line of a new email
in Mail.
Mavericks crippled two useful programs.
Can somebody direct me to a program the helps Apple's programmers with their nee "upgrade".

Again, I never knew that was available. Typing the name of the group into the address field works.
I never start an email from Contacts. I usually start them from Mail.
In Contacts, right clicking on a group name pops up a contextual menu, the second item of which is "Send Email to <group name>." You can't use that to start a new email to more than one group, but of course there is no reason you can't create a group for each group of people you frequently send email to. In fact, for weekly emails it seems like that is by far the most efficient way to go.
And if you give these groups unique prefix names (like say "G1 weekly pub," "G2 weekly pub," etc.), then from Mail you just need to type the unique prefix in the "To" field & Mail will auto fill the rest in the popup suggestions. That's a little less efficient than drag & drop, but only by a keystroke or click or two.
