Why do I delete records so slow ?

Dear experts :
there is a long long runing problem of delete recoreds on a table,
one day, there is job goes creazy... i have to delete those uncessary rows ( abt 300000 recds)
this table has almost hundreds of fields ,and many constraints(almost 80)...
delete 10000 rows nearly 30 min...
how do i increase the speed of delete action ??
my Oracle DB version is 10.2.0.4.0
help pls ~~

Video is synced from the computer to the iPhone via iTunes. You need to load the video into iTunes, make sure it is iPhone compatible before you do that, and once it is in iTunes, then sync to the iPhone.
Never said what computer OS you were using. Also, the computer processor, amount of RAM can make a difference with HD video.

Deleting records from a versioned table slow.

I have a problem the sql statement delete * from version_table slows down considerably as the number of history entries increase. 10g advises that an index should be created on the primary key column and creation time to improve performance. My question is this a viable option or is there an alternative. This has become apparent as java developer write units test to clear out data before and after running tests.

How significant is the change in performance as the number of history entries increase ? Since the delete statement is running without a where clause, I would expect a full table scan to be performed in both cases. If this is the case, then the amount of time to delete the same number of rows should remain fairly constant with only a slight increase in time. This is of course unless the size of the base table is also growing considerably from those extra historical rows, in which case the extra time would make sense in some cases.
Also, are the number of rows that are being deleted in both cases the same, or are the additional history entries due to inserts? If the extra rows are from inserts that I would expect the amount of time for the deletion to occur to increase, but only in proportion to the number of additional rows.
There is not too much else I can say without additional information. Feel free to file a TAR on this issue if this does not answer your questions.

You have unique key field(s) on the table you are trying to insert which actually restricts you from inserting the same value again.
When you are deleting the record and issue commit there is a record to be inserted in the table which is a duplicate that's why you are getting this unique error.
As oracle is not able to insert your commit fails and stops your deletion of record from table

Well, I fail to understand why you want to complicate easy things, but anyway you can do that by using TEXT_IO within Forms to create text file (see Forms builder help), and UTL_FILE package to read it within Pl/Sql : you could create a stored procedure, and call it from Forms passing the file name as parameter. See UTL_FILE documentation

@dominic: I did the safe mode start and after the desktop appeard I did nothing and just shut down and start normally again. Is it that? I was thinking that some window should have popped out of nowwhere and give me some diagnose... and tell me what to do... ?
Then after a normal start I did the disk utility thing, I could only verify and not repair since it seems to be ok? :

@Lex: I'm really wondering about those two old applications
1) I didn't find anything useful about camerawindow or canon tools, except that it helps connecting my canon powershot G15 camera with a smartphone... don't even says if it works with my camera model nor if it works with mavericks...
2) ...Silverlight/OutOfBrowser/SLLauncher.app: Is it needed for what? After looking up it just said useful for webbrowsers, maybe better video quality etc. isn't that something good? if I delete it from my library will there e noteable differences when I use the internet?

Deleting Record from Database in PHP

I'm trying to figure out how to delete a record from my
database. I already have a recordset with my form selected. But
when I try to add "Delete Record," I can never seem to figure out
why it won't delete anything when I load the page in a browser, it
won't even go to the page I told it to go to after it deletes a
record. My guess is it's what I'm entering in the "Delete Record"
part of it, any help would be great. Also, my id is primary key if
that helps. Thanks ahead of time.

Delete Record server behavior problem

Hi all!
I'm such a painful situation, that I can't figure out, why my
Delete
Record form don't work as supposed.
It seems all things work (also gives message "You have
successfully
deleted the article."), but the problem is
that in the MySQL (5) database real deletion doesn't
occure...
I was walking along with very nice tutorial

if someone has time to think about...
I have all the steps (from the tutorial) done multiple times
and
result... no real deletion, despite "successfully deleted"
text :(

Delete Record Automatically deleting

I have been trying to see if anyone has had this same issue with no real luck. I was hoping someone could give me a quick hand. I am created a delete record page as you would usually do. It is supposed to populate like any other page first so that yiou see the user's information. You should then be able to hit the delete button to delete the actual record. Unfortunately as soon as you go to the page it automatically deletes the record not giving you a chance to review the file first.

Form is set to post so i can;t see any reason it should automatically delete the file.

OK so thi sis not the "RIGHT" answer as I still don't know why it is automatically deleting. But with that in mind all I did was create a "View" page stating "ARE YOU SURE YOU WOULD LIKE TO DLETE THIS USER?" After that they are then sent to the delete record page which then deletes the record. If anyone wants to take a stab at it here is the complete code for the "delete" page. There may be something i am just not seeing ...

Delete record behaviour (PHP/mySQL)

I've just worked through this whole database thing from
scratch again after a little glitch, and it's all working pretty
well.
I do still have the issue with deleting records - I have the
search results page which is fine, and has a delete options at the
end of the row.
It was working just fine bringing up the 'confirm deletion'
page with the selected record - but it goes wrong after I add the
'delete record' server behaviour.
Basically after I do, when I click delete in the results
page, it skips the 'confirm deletion' page, going straight to the
'deletion confirmed' page. It's as tho' simply going to the
confirmation page is triggering the deletion, rather than requiring
the 'delete record' button to be pressed. Does the form / button
require an 'action'? Although as far as I can tell I followed the
instructions
correctly, but something is going wrong on the confirmation page.
It does still delete the record at least, but it would be
good to have the confirmation page.

Jdr_utils.deleteDocument Not deleting records...

I ran jdr_utils.deleteDocument and it said the document was deleted, and if I try to use the printDocument method, it does say it cannot find it. However in the record is still in the JDR_PATHS table. Why wasn;'t the record removed for a delete?

Profile Option : Personalize Self-service Defn
Value : Set to "NO"
This will disable all the personalizations in the application done.

Why is PRE 8.0 so slow on my Windows 7 installation?

I've been using Premiere Elements 3.0 on my PC with Vista for some time, and it's acceptably fast. I've now installed Windows 7 (a clean installation), and installed Premiere Elements 8. It is just soooo slow by comparison. If I load a project, which consists of four long MPG clips, it takes around 10 minutes to get to the stage where I can edit - it's 'indexing' and 'conforming' during that time. It doesn't seem to save that information, so the next time I load the project, it indexes and conforms again. I'm now trying to export as an AVI file, and it's promising me something like 20 hours, whereas a similar video in 3.0 under Vista would take only three or so hours. (The whole timeline is about an hour long.) Everything on PRE 8 seems incredibly slow.
My PC is a Dell Dimension 9200, with a Core 2 CPU at 2.4 GHz, with 4GB RAM (obviously only 3GB usable), and a RAID 0 array of two 1 TB hard disks. Even though this is not the fastest, most recent spec, other applications (eg sound editing software) run like greased lightning. For what it's worth, the 'Windows Experience Index' for my PC is 5.5, with the processor/memory/graphics/primary hard disk coming in at 5.8 to 5.9.
Any ideas why Premiere Elements 8 is so slow on my PC? Is this just an endemic problem with this version with this spec PC compared with older versions, or am I unusual - do other people with equivalent spec PCs experience greater speeds? (Although I can see that the interface is different, presumably this version of PRE is doing more or less the same job when exporting the video to AVI as the older version?)

Well, I've got multiprocessing (both of the dual cores) working, by setting the priority of the process to 'Real time'. It was set at 'normal', and seemed to be only running one core flat out at that setting. Upping the process priority to 'Real time' gets both cores close to maximum most of the time. I suspect that might be a Win 7 thing interacting with a PRE8 thing (sorry - very untechnical there!) since v3 seemed to use both cores flat out on the Win 7 Release Candidate.
It's still quite slow compared with v3, and I guess I could live with that. I've tried using MPEG Streamclip to convert the source files from MPG to AVI, and will keep going with that to see how it goes, but...
PRE8 seems to insist on conforming the source files every time I start it up, MPEG or AVI alike, which means it's five or ten minutes before I can use it. I've tried moving the location of the media cache. I've deleted the media cache files and preview files. I've also tried deleting the media cache database - and that appeared to work one time only, in that on one occasion re-opening the project in PRE8 didn't require it to conform everything again, but after that first time it wants to conform it all again. I've looked elsewhere in the forums for advice on this conforming problem, but can't find any other suggestions. When I look at the media cache, there seem to be two copies of each .cfa file - one has a suffix _1 at the end of the file name, which naively I'm asssuming means that PRE8 has decided to conform the media again but instead of overwriting the original .cfa file has created a new file with the suffix - but of course, that could be completely wrong.
The processor is an intel Core 2 6600, running Win 7 32-bit.
I'm close to giving up and uninstalling to return to version 3.0. I was worried that 3.0 might not be stable under Win 7, although it seemed OK in the Release Candidate of Win 7. This version 8 seems quite unstable on my machine, and so going back to version 3 probably couldn't be worse. However, if anyone has more good ideas I'm very willing to try them before giving up, in case it sheds any light on the problem that might help others.

We want to use MDM for our catalog (100' products/materials). In this catalog we have priceconditions (4 millions) and these priceconditions has an expired date and I want to delete records that has expired. I also have an issue when I do the import of the priceconditions. The files containes products/materials that I don't have in my catalog, thus I don't want to import these. This has become a problem, I have tried to set the MDIS unmapped handlig to fail, but this makes the importing of the priceconditions very slow. Thus I thought I could map them to NULL and then run a workflow where I could delete the unwanted records (but as you replayed earlier, an other workaround for this has to be done).
According to me, For the first half of your problem, where you want to delete the records whose price conditionds have expired.
What you can do is a Search based on Pricing Condition. That will fetch you the records which you want to delete. You will have to delete these records manually. There is no other way to delete records automatically.
For the second half of the problem, where the Import File has some new Materials/Products which you do not want to import.
You can deal with this problem by selecting a proper matching Field. And then Select the proper Default Import Action.
You will have to choose "Skip" for the new materials which do not want to Import. If you only want to update the materials which are already existing in MDM, then you will have to choose " Update All Map fields". Save both these properties in a map if your requirement is consistent.

I have noticed the same thing on my MAC. Mail has become very "clunky"- Before Mountain Lion, whenever I clicked on a msg or a function (delete), it would respond immediately. With Mountain Lion there is an unacceptable hesitation. What is going on with this latest update?
